Hey folks
did you get the new OTA update (mine came last night)
the big thing - and i love it - is the option to hide the nagivation buttons/bar in all apps (except for some reasons gallery and camera) so you get immersive screen all the time
Most apps work perfect but the weather channel for eg wont render the background image ok
Overall really love this feature - makes the phone be what should be - immersive
you can access the naviagtion bar/key by swapping up over the area - have to say it takes an hour or so to get used
other improvements - feels faster and battery is improved
Security patch June 2017:laugh:
I find this ota terrible. I cannot adjust the color of the navigation bar to black
I don't notice any changes ?
navigation bar used to black in xda, now it's white... bad idea.

just plain stupid... before updating, and after... Showtime App... Navigation Bar

My navbar is the same. Thought I'd messed up a colour/theme setting. As ever, one step forward and two back.
Edit. Shame we can't set a semi transparent bar like when you use auto hide.
Broke the colour picker/themer in Display options. All "choices" are white lol.
Im still showing as April 2017 and advises me no OTA update available. Im on Three UK and keep meaning to debrand but unsure of the correct process to follow.
I didn't receive it. Why? Unlocked, exynos.
I'm wondering were 7.1 is, since we were supposed to be getting it at launch according to some reports

I'm on BTU unbranded (UK) and still April's DG firmware while other phones are already 2 updates ahead. This is ridiculous. And I'm wondering whether the device will eventually be updated to the latest firmware or the older one from May...
We shouldn't be forced to flash another ROM to get updates on time like everybody else.
And I'm puzzled why an unbranded SIM-free phone coming directly from Samsung gets much slower updates than carrier branded phones.
I'm on vodafone still have April security patch
Yep, Vodafone Germany, still on April patch
thats quite strange
must be a different update - because mine came with a dot on the navigation bar - in the left side - when you click on it - it gives you the option to hide the navigation bar in all apps - and swipe up to reveal it
see attached
I definitely don't have that hide feature. Verizon s8

It will be the usual minor update that is pushed out from time to time .
Some say it precedes a major update .

I don't know what it's supposed to do
But what it did do is add a bug where my device reboots every time I successfully pair a bluetooth device. The device is paired correctly, but my device reboots.
Other than that, it has also fixed a bug where a random app would open when I picked an app from the app picker (started with the two rectangle icon in the status bar), so I guess the two kind of even out.

Seems the Idol 3 is receiving the Stagefright patch! I'm surprised Alcatel is actually keeping up with this phone and releasing needed updates. Now if only we could get Android 5.1 or even Android M.
For those who have rooted, I'm sure you will have to un-root in order to get this via OTA or follow famewolf's thread here.
Cool 5.1.1 would be nice as well

There are 3 different 6045i firmwares in the stock image thread. You could have backed up one at a time till you got one that worked with google voice and didn't have other issues.
But wouldn't that negate the positive results of the most recent update (improved DTTW, etc.)?

if they could fix the lags too

hope this don't cause lags.. had the opposite result the last time I've updated..it was a mess
Well, I also use Hangouts Dialer and agree it's not a huge imposition. Still, no other handset I've ever used has had this bug, and I'd like the option of using the native dialer with GV. Regards from New Orleans...A.

Off topic. But how do you like or compare to the blu life one 2015?
I like the Blu Life One LTE quite a bit. Bought it for $99 off Amazon during a pre-order promotion, and have been using out to compare various carriers alongside my Idol 3. Considering that it has only 1 gig of RAM, it's remarkably smooth. Very bright 720p display, good battery life. A paltry 8g of onboard storage, but I'm an app minimalist, and it does take an optional SD card. Dual SIM capability which has come in handy, though you must choose between SD card or SIM 2.
The Idol 3 is considerably more powerful (600-class Snapdragon versus 400; 2 gigs of RAM, bigger, full HD display, etc.). Covers more LTE bands, including Band 12, which is important for T-Mobile users like myself. Substantially better speakers.
I'm somewhat of a phone hobbyist, and have been playing with a number of inexpensive handsets lately (these two and a Lumia 640 -- amazing phone for $100 or less). I've gained new respect for this class of handset. See little or no need to pay flagship prices. But I don't game, so don't tax a CPU as some other users might.
I've been using an HTC One M7 on Verizon, but an going to move to T-Mobile. Coverage is solid here in New Orleans, and for my family (four of us) it's vastly less expensive, with vastly more data.

Hi All --
Wanted to let you guys know a new software update for IDOL 3 users will be released on or around August 10. This update will initially be available to IDOL 3 customers in the U.S. and will address fixes for Google Voice and SMS time stamp issues experienced by some users, as well as a Google security patch for the Stagefright vulnerability. For IDOL 3 customers in Canada, we are working with our carrier partners and hope to have an availability update for this very shortly.

I plan to give it a try and if it works I'll TRY to capture the 6045i update url as I did the previous updates..(I use a transparent squid proxy that all devices in my house go through to get to the internet. It allows me to intercept the url)..if I can get the update.zip downloaded I will make it available and perhaps some users will be able to sideload the update with less hassle.

That would be awesome. I'm in Canada and don't want to have to wait for my carrier to 'Ok' an update for a major security issue like this.
If that could be done for 6045k since I saw one user on this forum from Portugal with K model and 01003 update..
Meaning the update is pushed different from region to region..

I can confirm that using the Full Unroot method via SuperSU works on this phone. I just ran it out of curiosity and followed the steps and SuperSU is gone from the app drawer and I am able to check for updates. See screenshots:

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of Google Fi. Which phone are you going to go with? I've thought about replacing my Note 4 DE with the Moto X Pure when they run it on sale again (was $319 a few days ago). But the Droid Z Force also looks nice.

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.

You know what? I'm not sure now. I could've sworn I read an article saying there was, now the only reference I find is for T-Mobile S7's getting a performance update.
I was on rooted stock PI2 and accidentally said OK to the OTA and it sent my phone into bootloop. Had to start from scratch.

I think these are US.
Just updated feels smoother somewhat.
Battery life is much better...
We were all waiting for the new update to come but Once more Samsung has manage to destroy some things
One of them is screen auto light adjustment... At least at Exynos AQG5 version
Before the update you could just adjust the bar wherever you like and then with one off - on to auto switch you have return to full auto light adjustment...
Now this is impossible
With auto on if you move the bar this setting is saved like the ideal auto lighting condition and stays that way...that means that auto lighting is working good but from the base of your previous adjustment and not full stock auto.. If you deactivate and activate again the auto switch nothing happens because of the previous "saved condition"

I've got the unlocked version and I don't have any updates, I've also checked SamMobile and Updato and can't find an unlocked one. However, I did see the update for Vodafone.
Also, does anyone know if I'll get any bloatware if I flash the Vodafone version?

My carrier's Sky Mobile, who 'piggyback ' off the O2 network, but I don't get any O2 bloat.
My version is XEU If that makes a difference, the wierd thing is that on Updato it showed a date for XEU of the 14th of July, but I only got it on the 24th. Would be interesting to know whether anyone from O2 has received this yet.
Not sure if flashing Vodafone will install their bloat like inserting their SIMS would.
The UK roll out never makes much sense. Some network firmwares are released before the generic ones, but its not consistent and can change at anytime. The only consistent thing is that EVR (EE) is always last, and usually skips releases entirely, often as many as 3 or 4 releases.

This is how stock Android works. Auto brightness still works, it's just based off where you set it, not where the OS decided it should be.
The service mode code *#2683662# which allows you to select specific Lte bands as well as enable 4 mimo no longer works after the update, just says not supported, anyone have any workarounds or reasons why?
