Verizon website listed this...see below
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.
Software Version: MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPF3
The current software update gives you the most up to date Android™ security patch on your device.
Receiving this update now, its automatic and I can't seem to stop it easily.
I'll report what I find. I unrooted and went default yesterday, on retail 6.0.1. Gonna sell my note and get Google Fi soon.

Can you try to downgrade after you update and see if it'll downgrade? Thanks. Its ok if you're not interested in all that hassle.

Nothing visible has changed, no new apps. No new settings. June 1st security patch which may be different. I'll maybe try to downgrade tomorrow.

I already checked it. Downgrade safe.
I haven't found a tutorial on downgrading to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1. Is there a safe way to do it?

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

I'm guessing its just a June security patch.
I'm impressed Verizon is actually trying to keep up with the security updates on this device. BUT, i dont think they have a choice because this device is probably more used then the Note5 .
Anyone tried this update while being rooted?

Seems to have fixed some lag, heat , and battery drain issues I was having. Auto brightness is still borked. Still have to turn the brightness down manually in a dark room, and up to max outside.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of Google Fi. Which phone are you going to go with? I've thought about replacing my Note 4 DE with the Moto X Pure when they run it on sale again (was $319 a few days ago). But the Droid Z Force also looks nice.
Made my battery worse! A little less lag though....so got that goin for me!!! Lol

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.

Hey there,
quick question, as i'm new to this, since this is my first android phone. so i've heard that 4.2.2 was released about a week ago. now apparently this update comes in waves, meaning that not everyone will get it at the same time. now i've got two questions about it, since i still haven't received this update:
- is this normal that you have to wait so long to get an update that's already available to a lot of people? (don't wanna do the framework trick)
- what is the purpose of that? please don't tell me, google couldn't handle the traffic when some people want to download this tiny update at the same time? oO
i'm just asking because im starting to worry if there's something wrong with my phone that makes it unable to receive system updates. i don't need the update that bad.
Yes. Don't worry.
I have a n4 ,n7 and n10. Framework worked for me 1st time with all the devices. Its very easy. Why not just do it???

Because i've read that it messes up / resets settings of certain apps.
Worked fine for me.
Clearing Google services framework from the apps section definitely works.
I haven't gotten it either. Framework worked on N10 and gnex. I'm mainly not forcing it on N4 out of curiosity of how long it will take. Yes, I'm strange but not really needing update on N4. No reboots, no butter in the update, etc.

I haven't got it either. Is that related to the country or the batch of the phone you purchased?
Still havent got it either. I dont wanna force it with the framework data delete trick, the update is nothing interesting so id like to wait and see how long it would take to recieve the OTA.

i know in canada, the updates go through service providers(if purchased from them) instead of google servers. maybe this is what is happening if you don't see the update yet?

No update for me either, but I don't mind it. Nothing major that I've read so far will force me to manually update my phone. If it doesn't come by Google I/O, then I'd worry, but by then KLP will probably be out.

They stagger the updates so their servers don't get overloaded with everyone trying to download the update at once. Microsoft does the same thing with Windows updates but they finish within a few days.
Canada here. My N7 took five days to get the OTA. It's been five days since the rollout began and still no OTA on my N4 yet.

guess it isnt as big of a deal, usually sprint rolls these out over time so people who dont have it can sideload, but it seems like they pushed it 100% now. i flashed stock and immediately started to update
Maybe not, i couldn't get a link.
Total file size is 1016.85MB. Downloading it now on my Note 4 as I type this.
I'm so excited! Can't wait to update after work!
Boner...
Just updated. here are some observations that I've made based on the app's that I use on a day to day basis / general observations that I noticed. Smoother. Sweet 5.0 transitions. Contextual colors for the notification bar. Smart Lock (via Moto 360). New keyboard. New calendar: simply more lollipop-esque. It's awesome. Finger print scanner seems to have improved (which I guess I wouldn't be using as much because of smart lock). I usually use Hangouts bc the stock Messaging app was 1)too laggy 2)couldnt read multiple texts on Moto 360. With new update, i tried out the new messaging app. Lollipoped, AS smooth and fast as the the new Messenger app by Google and it allows me to read threads on my Moto 360. I'm sold. Camera app has been slightly tweaked. In Modes we now see fast and slow mo as options as opposed to going deeper into the settings to change it..And best of all: multi tasking capacitive button is finally faster. I never used it bc it was so slow to respond.
Im on rooted with stock recovery ...do I need to unroot to take the ota? Thanks

Seems the Idol 3 is receiving the Stagefright patch! I'm surprised Alcatel is actually keeping up with this phone and releasing needed updates. Now if only we could get Android 5.1 or even Android M.
For those who have rooted, I'm sure you will have to un-root in order to get this via OTA or follow famewolf's thread here.
Cool 5.1.1 would be nice as well

There are 3 different 6045i firmwares in the stock image thread. You could have backed up one at a time till you got one that worked with google voice and didn't have other issues.
But wouldn't that negate the positive results of the most recent update (improved DTTW, etc.)?

if they could fix the lags too
i was wondering, if we can't get ota update is it still possible to use the file update while being rooted?
hope this don't cause lags.. had the opposite result the last time I've updated..it was a mess
Well, I also use Hangouts Dialer and agree it's not a huge imposition. Still, no other handset I've ever used has had this bug, and I'd like the option of using the native dialer with GV. Regards from New Orleans...A.

Off topic. But how do you like or compare to the blu life one 2015?
I like the Blu Life One LTE quite a bit. Bought it for $99 off Amazon during a pre-order promotion, and have been using out to compare various carriers alongside my Idol 3. Considering that it has only 1 gig of RAM, it's remarkably smooth. Very bright 720p display, good battery life. A paltry 8g of onboard storage, but I'm an app minimalist, and it does take an optional SD card. Dual SIM capability which has come in handy, though you must choose between SD card or SIM 2.
The Idol 3 is considerably more powerful (600-class Snapdragon versus 400; 2 gigs of RAM, bigger, full HD display, etc.). Covers more LTE bands, including Band 12, which is important for T-Mobile users like myself. Substantially better speakers.
I'm somewhat of a phone hobbyist, and have been playing with a number of inexpensive handsets lately (these two and a Lumia 640 -- amazing phone for $100 or less). I've gained new respect for this class of handset. See little or no need to pay flagship prices. But I don't game, so don't tax a CPU as some other users might.
I've been using an HTC One M7 on Verizon, but an going to move to T-Mobile. Coverage is solid here in New Orleans, and for my family (four of us) it's vastly less expensive, with vastly more data.

Hi All --
Wanted to let you guys know a new software update for IDOL 3 users will be released on or around August 10. This update will initially be available to IDOL 3 customers in the U.S. and will address fixes for Google Voice and SMS time stamp issues experienced by some users, as well as a Google security patch for the Stagefright vulnerability. For IDOL 3 customers in Canada, we are working with our carrier partners and hope to have an availability update for this very shortly.

I plan to give it a try and if it works I'll TRY to capture the 6045i update url as I did the previous updates..(I use a transparent squid proxy that all devices in my house go through to get to the internet. It allows me to intercept the url)..if I can get the update.zip downloaded I will make it available and perhaps some users will be able to sideload the update with less hassle.

That would be awesome. I'm in Canada and don't want to have to wait for my carrier to 'Ok' an update for a major security issue like this.
If that could be done for 6045k since I saw one user on this forum from Portugal with K model and 01003 update..
Meaning the update is pushed different from region to region..

I'd like a damn fix for downloading pdfs on chrome from my school's page, moodle. Samsung rep said he had no idea why it doesn't work, even after a factory reset. I'll try this now, knowing it probably isn't the fix I'm looking for.

Security update without the most recent security patch even though Verizon says "The current software update gives you the most up to date Android™ security patch on your device.". Lame. They probably found a root exploit and closed it.

I'm using chrome. I was at bestbuy and my phone wouldn't download the PDFs, we did a factory reset and it worked. The next day it did not.
I went back in and the Samsung rep said sorry I don't know what's wrong. We downloaded different apps to open PDF, but chrome defaulted to its file viewer and said can not open PDF. But it works fine on opera. I'm going to go in tomorrow, and if it doesn't work in going to keep swapping phones until they figure it out. It's annoying and it seems to be a chrome issue with Adobe and chrome pulling plugs, but idk. I don't think the rep should back away from the issue.

Mine was up around that before the update, then a couple hours after it dropped to 10 to 12. Stayed there the rest of the day. Will be keeping an eye on it tomorrow to see how it is off a full charge.
I noticed that my phone goes into doze mode better. When I would take the phone if the charger at 100% and let it sit I would not enter doze mode. The battery would lose some percentage points instead of staying at 100%. This morning I took the phone if the charging pad at 7am and checked the phone at 8:15 am and it was still at 100%.

You neither could nor would want to install the att firmware on your device.
If it could and you somehow managed to flash the bootloader you would end up with a locked device forever.

Instead of messing with the SM-T817A ROM, I'll probably just pick up a tablet from AT&T.

Good luck with buying a completely locked down tablet.

So if I have the Sm-t817a tablet will I eventually get the MM update? I bought it off Craigslist the other day and didn't care about the LTE but it was perfect condition 9.7" for $300 . I don't really care about rooting it or anything and it sounds like I'd be screwed anyway if I was bit I have my Nexus devices for that.

So, How did it go? I got the update a couple of days after you and everything is perfect except for the keyboard. Very Often, while I am typing, the system inserts spaces and misses characters etc. It can be a real pain in the a$$ to type on the tablet now.
Well, here we are, 17 days later; and the typing problem is Long Gone. Weird... But, Good !!
BTW
I performed a factory reset before and after upgrading just to be safe.
Anyone else ever receive the update? I'm still stuck on Lollipop.

I finally got the update. I didn't have my AT&T sim in the tablet anymore. As soon as I put the AT&T sim back in and checked for the update, it pushed out. Not sure if this will affect anyone else or not.
won't find the update
I've tried doing the update OTA and it hasn't found it yet.
I've tried to do it through KIES and it says that this device is supported by Smartswitch and won't let me do it that way.
I want to do it through Odin, but I cannot find the update file.
Does anyone have a link or copy of the rom so I can get mine updated?
Thanks!
After talking with AT&T, the only way to update this tablet without AT&T service is to go to Best Buy and have them push it for you manually. Alternatively, you can call Samsung @800 726 7864 and they have a way to push it from the cloud or something.
Yes, old thread, but this tablet is STILL the bomb and many people are buying them used off of eBay only to find the last owner never bothered to update to Marshmallow.

I was in the market for a new e-reader (OG Nook Book just wasn't cutting it any longer). Ended up with a Tab 2, but the Nook version due to the additional $50 discount. Was surprised it came with MM, but now I'm trying to figure out how I can get Nougat on it. This tablet really is the bomb!
