back camera blurry - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Camera was working fine until yesterday when the rear camera became blurry and would not focus. Both the camera app and apps which use the camera like WhatsApp ) is not focusing. The front camera is fine (great quality).

I have the same issue. Any solutions?

I don't have this issue, but my first guess would be condensation inside the lens? Have you gone swimming or showering with your phone recently? Could be a water resistance issue

Nope no water. Its so random though doesn't happen that often but it concerns me. I went to the Samsung repair centre and was told they are aware of the issue and a software update will fix it

Did you wipe the lense?

Its an OIS problem, shake the phone and it will ok for a short time

big_bosss.. did u ask the Samsung repair center that when is the expected software update for this blurry camera issue? Also, if its a software issue then why it gets fixed after a gentle tap near the camera area? I am trying to reproduce this problem but I cant. It just happens randomly!Anyone knows how to reproduce this problem so I can make a strong case for my warranty. Thanks

Unfortunately no i wasnt able to recreate the blur. Its rare. And they didn't give me any eta for the update just said they acknowledged it. But i have recorded it with my other phone. If it keeps happening often I guess I'll claim my warranty

silly observation, but stupid me did this on my last new phone
is the plastic peel off protector still on it?:cyclops:

tapping on the top end of the phone can reproduce this problem.. just more than a gentle tap and then the camera goes blurry! Fed up...
@big_b0sss.Can you recall where you read that Samsung will do a software update for this? thanks

I also had this on mine and it was sent away for repair (all they did was reflash the firmware). Once i setup the phone again it happen again within 30 minutes. I ended up getting it replaced with a new s8 which does not have the problem.
Mine would happen 2 or 3 times a day and shaking the camera would have it correct itself but was not happy doing that and demanded it replaced.

There was a new firmware update.
My phone specs:
Full model: SM-G950F
Baseband version: G950FXXU1AQF7
_
New version is "G950FXXU1AQG5". This is from 7 july.
Is there anyone with the problem of the camera that has received the OTA of this new version? It says it improves the stability of the camera. Anyone could try it?
Thank you!

My camera does the same blurry stuff.. Only shaching the phone works.. I am on AQF7

Any news on this bug ? Can i buy a new S8 or it is better to wait ? lol

I had same issue with the camera. No fix from firmware updates. Local Samsung service center changed motherboard and the camera-module and it's fine now... I had also issues with wifi, so that's why the motherboard was also changed.

Thanks for reply
The new S8 have the same first day hardware or a updated one with this camera module fixed ?

The bug exists in some units not all the s8s. I haven't noticed mine blur after the update. Will still keep an eye out. Also my fone doesn't charge if it's turned off, wouldn't even boot up while plugged in. Only charges while device is on.

Mine has this issue - it's hardware and the only solution is to get it repaired/replaced. Mine was collected today!

Front Camera Failure?

This is SO strange.
The front camera used to work perfectly but now its just disappeared?
I cannot video call either.
It stopped working last week and I flashed to Tom Codons fantastic ROM just now and it's still not showing?

with kaiser sometimes camera wont work if you got a wrong radio, sounds goofy but you can check out the kaiser upgrading section, i could be wrong
Not a goofy reply but I had this problem with the Stock ROM so it's doubtful this would be the issue.
I'm using tom's new WM6.1 ROM.. and both front and back camera works fine.
did you ever solve this? i'm having this same issue now.
Nope. I called Orange and got my Dual replaced! Mines just started doing this again though so I'm about to call Orange. *Siggggh*
...
HMM... seams to be a Hardware failure.
under the sliding mechanism is a cable connected to the front camera...
And this is only placed with a adhesive tape...
hmm and it's not very good placed at all.
Don't know if this information helps.
It is actually. I suspected something like this.
This is my 4th Touch Dual I'm getting in 4 months! The first one suffered from this issue, the second one's slider was faulty from delivery because it was grinding and kept locking and the third one also had camera issues.
4th time lucky?
...
i hope for u^^
hmm but this thing with the sliding issue.. really a hardware failure.
u have no luck with ur nikis ^^

Ack. I'm somewhat still hoping that this is not a hardware failure as I would prefer not to go through the hassle of having to return it and reconfigure and reinstall everything all over again!
Can you try a hard-reset before you turn in your phone for replacement, just to confirm if it really is a hardware problem??
Yes. They ask you to 'master reset' anyway to confirm it is a Hardware problem. But trust me I've been through this before, Hard reset didn't work, changing ROM didn't work, Orange's Magical SIM updates did bugger all as well.
They're exchanging my Touch Dual Later today. I'm getting a bit fed up of this
I had the same problem .... but after smacking the unit around and removing the back cover to perform a reset ... the front camera started working again ...
Strange....
Oppss .. cross that out ... I just reset my device and the front camera is missing again ... dang ... looks like I have to send the unit back for repairs
hi!! i got the same issue with my front cam . i correct it with :
1-hard reset (still no cam)
2-installing a hotfix on the htc europe site (now my cam work again.)
hope this will help you.
how can i get that hotfix do you have the link?
U have to registered at htc e-club for download.
now i am leaving home but tomorrow i will put it on rapidshare for u
hi this is the link for the hotfix

thanks. it didn't work for me. =/
sorry i think u are right because i lost my front cam usage today again without doing nothing i hard reset reinstalling the cab but nothing so if someone could help i will be happy

Desire HD Screen Issue

Hello all and thanks for reading my thread.
I have searched high and low for this same issue, but found nothing similar anywhere unfortunately.
I have recently noticed that at all times, the screen seems to produce some horizontal lines which flicker often ... I am finding it hard to explain the problem itself, but I have not dropped the phone nor hit it or w/ever.
All I can think of is that I played a lot of this one game on it and it could have affected (overheat?) the GPU or something along those lines...
I am really not sure, but bottom line is that now I see all these issues on the screen, and camera and some games are off limits to use as they look very confusing...
Anyone has any idea what it could be?
G
Could you provide a screenshot?
It does sound like a hardware issue. I would send it for repair. They might even replace it. Maybe you could take a video of it happening.
(I assume you tried uninstalling the game and it didn't solve the problem. If your CPU is being overclocked try resetting it back to normal.)

Are screen issues/hardware issues fully covered by warranty? As I talked to an HTC support dude and all he said was we can book a repair and if it's not covered by warranty we'll send you a quote, £20 if you don't want the repair, if you don't pay either we'll get rid of the phone in 3 months...
So I don't wanna really send it off then find my parents get a £100 bill of which they don't know of :/
Most likely the lines are caused by a malfunctioning LCD. This can happen on its own or by physical abuse. Carrying your phone in your back pocket can cause this. If the phone looks great on the outside (no sign of big nicks from being dropped or warped from carrying it in your pocket) then HTC should find no reason to not fix it under warranty. Sometimes things go bad on their own.
Hey,
thanks everyone for your replies. I tried installing a different ROM (Cyan) on my DHD and it still seems to have the same issue, tried changing the cpu and gpu voltages, playing with temperatures etc, but to no avail..
I guess the LCD did go wrong, so Im sending it to Vodafone (UK) for repair. The only thing is that they will probably send me a refurbished phone if they cant fix it which wouldnt really be my first choice, but oh well! Could be worse I guess...
Thanks again for all the feedback

I just switched from ATT to Verizon and bought a Trophy off Craigslist because I didn't want to use my discount knowing that more WP7 devices should hopefully hit Verizon in the next few months.
The phone I got was almost brand new, lady bought it only a few months ago, but it wasn't even on Nodo!
First thing I did was update the phone to Mango, then set it up.
I had the EXACT same type of problem with my camera as the picture you posted. I went into a Verizon store and they were able to send me a warranty replacement, which works normally now.
My Trophy has similar camera effect - like it's taking too much light from objects and creating so called glow effect, so everything seems blurry, especially indoors...
here are some more pictures its realy bad :/ plese help me what should be the reason ???
Is the camera clean?
yes its clean :S
I suggest restoring stock ROM, if the problem still exists, it's a hardware problem, get it repaired.
Hey primozz3065, I had the exact same problem, and while at the Verizon store, an employee "checked the forums" (not sure what forums) and said he confirmed that other phones have the same problem, so I think it's probably some sort of hardware issue. Unfortunately you mentioned that you opened your phone and voided your warranty, so you might be out of luck.
My trophy its with stock rom 7392 NoDo chevron unlock.
I don't experience this problem on my Trophy . I think that camera lens are dirty for some reason . Try to clean it with computer display cleaning spray - inside and outside (warranty will be avoided if you dissemble the phone )
DO NOT USE ALCOHOL!!!
Or send back for repair to your local HTC supplier .They should send the phone to fix the problem .The nearest place to my location is Romania and the time for repair is about one month .
I had the same problem with my trophy...your pictures looks exactly like mine were before.
The camera lens was very dirty. Its hard to get lens clean, but its possible. I've used (my womens nail cleaner).
Just clean it will take some minutes) an the pictures will be good.
sorry 4my bad english ;-)

Z2 touchscreen defect

Hello,
I've just created this new thread to inform you about how my Z2 is broken after two weeks of use.
Today at noon the touchscreen started to do some unusual things, I wrote some messages and I recognized that I wrote multiple letters when touching just one, not one aside the tapped letter but at the other end of the screen.
I wondered how that happened, tried again and again, restarted the phone, nothing changed.
At home I called sony care to ask if anything like this was already known, they just advised me to "repair" the phone through pc companion.
Now I can say that nothing worked and I'm sure it's a hardware defect, by experience I would say it looks like water damage to the digitizer/touchscreen controller.
The flaps were always closed except for charging at the bedside table and I'm sure it didn't rain there.
I will keep you posted what is going to happen involving warranty and xperia care.
Greetings

I had the same problem, after two weeks too. I got a new one, but now I'm scared...
This also happened to me when I'm texting, it inputs multiple letters. I think this is a software issue as it happens after making a phone call. I changed to TouchPal keyboard and it happened less. I think the Xperia keyboard has bugs as well. But it rarely rarely happens and I can't duplicate the bug.
Don't know what causes it, seems software related to me. Turn of the screen and turn it back on worked for me. Happened just once...
Lucky for you, problem persists at the exact same spots.
Since yesterday the touchscreen went full rogue a few times, "touching itself" everywhere for a few seconds.
Trying to change it at the shop of my provider today by implied warranty.
Check your screen with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.easylabs.multitouch&hl=pl
Got the phone to my provider this afternoon, the shop assistant examined the device extensively and was pleased by getting informed about the older batch numbers that have some issues (mine was a 14w17 with off center camera and flash).
He started to write down contact details and a description of the failure.
Then he got to a support guide for checking the device before accepting it for warranty, in this guide there was a step to check the wetness indicator beneath the sim card slot...
Suddenly "ohhh...", he said the indicator turned red, i looked at the spot that looked to me like the indicator and said, ok, yes, seems like you are right, ****...
He said that he is very sorry but he can not accept the device like this.
I went out, knowing that he is not to blame for this, called xperia care and was really upset, asked for the nearest xperia care partner to do a water-proof test.
The woman at the hotline asked why I would want to do the test, I answered because the touchscreen is defect and the guy at the provider store said the wetness indicator went off.
She answered that the Z2 has no such thing as a wetness indicator, at least not one that is visible from the outside, the thing you can see is the hardware reset button and the pcb.
Went into the store again, went through all the steps and got a 1:1 change of the device, the shop assistant was amazed that I get a 1:1 change, that would nearly never happen.
We agreed that it may be that Sony informed vendors of faulty batches so that they get replaced without hardware checks and his support guide was an old version of the Z or Z1 because the device is still too new.
I'm happy that I get a new device without any more hassle.
Greetings

I have exactly the same problem with my Z1 since i upgraded to 4.4 and whats bad is that its even present in 4.3 when i downgraded. Before upgraded to 4.4 i never had such an issue, its very annoying!

Sorry for replying this late...
Got a device out of an older batch, it's a 14w15, everything is good except camera displacement.
I think the vibration in this device feels a little weirder not as good as in the last device.
I even got an unbranded decive, no magenta t at the startup and less apps to deactivate.
Keeping it and hoping that it lasts the next two years.
Thanks for your replies and support.

WiFi acting up on my ALE-L21

For some reason the wifi on my phone is acting strangely, it just started doing so a few days ago but before that it was all fine. Basically what is happening is that my wifi will be really slow to the point of not connecting to websites (Connection timed out etc.) however the wifi starts to work if I turn it off and then back on, but then stops. I really don't want to be doing that every 5 seconds. It used to be fine and then suddenly it started being weird. So basically my phone is quite useless now since I use my phone for everything (I log into my google account with my phone, I need to use the steam app on my phone and other important stuff). The wifi on all my other devices is fine like usual. Bluetooth also says that the bluetooth address is unavailable but I don't use bluetooth so it doesn't affect me but I think it's also to do with my problem.
Currently using Sokkoban's Deodexed ROM.
What I've tried doing:
Removed PurePerformancesX.
Cleared Cache.
Reflashed the ROM.
Flashed to the Official Lollipop update.
Flashed to the Official Marshmallow update.
Rebooted my router.
Reset my router.
Anything else to do?

I've heard about this, it seems it's a common problem among P8 lite users.

It sounds like it could be a faulty wireless card in the phone or the drivers bugged out. Blimin' shame that your warranty is void cause I am pretty sure they would have to fix that for you.
I actually had a very similar thing happen to my old iPhone 4s, wireless just completely died in the end. No regrets about that though, it brought me to android.

I decided to remove the back cover of my phone to see what the problem could be, but then my screwdriver was too big to open any further. I still don't know where the WiFi + BT antennas are. And since TalkTalk are cool, they said that my warranty lasts as long as I carry on paying my contracts, which is good. However since I'm just out of the 28 day return window I'll need to give them a call so that Carphone Warehouse can repair it for me for free.
