Hi,
I'm new to OnePlus, got my OPT last Monday.
Coming from a Nexus 5, I'm used to getting new versions of Android quickly.
For those with experience with OnePlus, how fast can we expect to get a version of 6.0 on our OPT ?
Thanks !
It took the quite a while (several months) to push official lollipop builds to the one... Hopefully they are quicker this time. Custom builds will probably be available much sooner

on my OPO, i received the update to lollipop almost a year after it was introduced on the first handsets. and when I got it, i switched to CM (community version) as they had tinckered to much with stuff like the default/built-in e-mail app.
I have already switched to CM (beta) for my OPT, because i did not like OxygenOS

Yes, I figured I'll have custom ROM & Kernel (I'm on AK already just for color calibration).
What were the best ROMs on OPO ? Do you think we'll have good developers on the OPT ?
Only CM for me

I have only used cyanogenmod on my devices, nothing else. So I cannot say if one ROM should be better than another.
Regarding OPT, it would be great to reach a point where there could be an officially supported version of cyanogenmod
How do you like the OPT so far? I'm a long time Nexus user, but after a drop device my N5 is now dead which has me looking for a new phone. I was looking at the OPT and almost pulled the trigger on one, but after reading about the Oxygen OS it seems like a pretty buggy OS. How do you feel about the OS coming from the stock (I assume) android experience on the N5?
Cheers
I was a fellow Nexus fanboy who switched to the OPT. The Oxygen OS definitely has its pros and cons, but I believe the OnePlus team will send some OTA's here and there to address the issues. Alternatively, with Grarak porting over CM to the OPT so quickly, I use CM as a daily driver. The OxygenOS has a lot of great features which are not included in stock Android experience. Overall, the OPT in my opinion is well worth it.

For now I still miss more development options, but the phone is nice. I'm sure development will pick up with Oneplus getting their logistics have together and getting more devices out there.
For me all the negative press is mostly fan boys not getting their invite quickly.
The size takes time to adjust to, but Oxygen with Xposed and AK kernel is pretty sweet right now!

Oxygen defiantly sounds and look great, but I was just a bit put away when I read the OP forums about the bugs... but as with most of these things, it's the people who are unhappy that are loudest.

Sorry, for hi-jacking your thread about 6.0 for the OPT. I was actually looking for a bigger screen so 5.5" seemed to be a good middle ground. I've only been able to play around with the OPT with the hydrogen OS (I live in Hong Kong),and I liked the size of the phone but not Hydrogen OS.
Im looking forward to android 6, hope its good for op2. With any phone ive had, 5 has been v poor compared to 4.4.2 (battery life and performace), hope 6 can shine for us

I know 5.5 is now the middle ground, I'm just saying that coming from a Nexus 5 for the last 2 years, the jump is not that easy. I'm sure I'll be fine after a while. But right now, one handed use is difficult for me (and I have somewhat big hands), especially with the lower buttons at the bottom (I went back to on screen navigation bar).
Hi,
Just checking.
Thanks,
Rich
It works with Cataclysm and ElementalX! I thought it worked with Pure Nexus, but I'm pretty sure it does not work with CM.
It works with some AOSP based ROMs like Chroma
Works with Pure Nexus and Chroma from my personal experience. Running the latest Pure Nexus.
So having never used Android pay (after reading i am not sure it is as useful as I thought), do you like it? Is it worth giving up CM for android pay?

Well Is it worth it to you?
I use Chroma instead of CM just because I am able to use AP. But Chroma is a pretty awesome ROM.
I don't think AP is really that important. I use it just because of the cool factor lol.
You may want to make sure your bank supports AP as well. https://support.google.com/androidpay/answer/6314169?hl=en

Its worth it if you have retailers who offer NFC payment terminals. I don't like CM at all for a ROM. I highly recommend you try Chroma to see how you like it.
Greetings,
So I am looking into running a custom rom on my Nexus 6P mainly to use custom themes and use a firewall of some sort, but I have no idea where to begin with gaining root access, I am running MacOS at the moment.
I came across the Paranoid Android rom and liked the fact it is still very much stock, is this rom safe and stable?
I ask this mainly because I don't wan't to have issues with some of my phones features not working, also what is the battery life like on this rom?
And finally does the swipe left for google now still there or is that only on the google launcher, and is the google now on tap still implemented?
Regards,
Josh

You can visit this thread. Personally, its not bad not the best though. Using it with Franco's kernel.

PureNexus ROM is really good with battery life and even the stability. Give it a shot and also most of the Google Pixel features are already baked into this ROM. Hope you get what you are excited about
I didn't like Pure Nexus and would have recommended Cortex instead but the last two builds have been buggy--although I think a lot of that has to do with the monthly Google image the rom is built upon since similar image based roms are reporting similar issues--mainly with battery drain. I would have recommended Megapixel instead but that hasn't been updated since December. You might be stuck with Pure Nexus but since it is an Aesop based rom rather than based on the Google monthly image Google Assistant doesn't work properly for some people or stops working properly after a time. One good thing about Cortex is that GA works perfectly. I wish I had a better recommendation for you than Pure Nexus which I think is overrated but I'm still on January build of Cortex because of problems with the February and March builds. Good luck.
I tried pure nexus a couple of times. It's stable, and for me assistant have worked perfect all time.
Somehow I didn't like the Rom as much as megapixel. Cortex is buggy and I don't install it again, I have tried it 3-4 times.
I'm about to try resurrection remix now, worth a look. It comes with pixel launcher also, and having a ton of customisation.
Edit: After trying Resurrection Remix, I quickly removed it and went back to pure nexus.
I can understand that people love RR,I really do.. IF you love customization. Im not that into this stuff.
But for me, it's way too much and simply confusing. Of course, you can use the Rom without using the customisation, but then it loose some of it point I think. Pure nexus would be my number 1 recommendation.
I personally found Pure Nexus to be the most problematic rom I ever installed on any phone I have ever owned. I can't fathom why that rom is so popular. People who post problems to the forums are very frequently running Pure Nexus but always assume that whatever problem they are having has nothing to do with the rom. Unfortunately most of the devs seem to have abandoned ship where the 6P is concerned and there are only a small handful of roms still being updated. If you run Pure Nexus I hope you have a better experience than I did the two times I tried running it but if you start having issues with your phone after you flash it the problem is with the rom. Pure Nexus slowed down my phone compared to stock, caused battery drain compared to stock, caused multiple apps to crash repeatedly--and when I tried to get support all I got was attacked.

Oh well... I really don't understand what's your point in telling someone that a ROM is so bad and that people who answered you in a ROM thread "attacked" you/your ports... Don't get me wrong, this is not a tribute i'm making here to PureNexus, nor am i trying to persude OP to choose it over another ROM... I see only 4 post from you in PN thread reporting issues. Your 1st post seems to have been ignored... Most likely because people never had such issues?! Also with adaway which i myself never had any issue using it... Here 3 users just answered, telling you they don't have issues with PN + AdAway. I don't see any attack here, do you? Finally you ended with reinstalling stock for testing purpose as kindly suggested by another user. And it seems like you weren't offended in any way since you even added a smile in the end of your post stating it resolved your issue!
Now telling someone a ROM is the worst of all simply because you didn't find your happiness is kind of offending and attacking regarding all the work @BeansTown106 puts in his ROM and for the community. Did you ever read one of the best XDA proverb that say: "logcat or it didn't happen" ? Proper logs are the least you can do when you report issues. Considering you're a member since nearly 2 years with ~ 600 posts, i think you should know that. At least, you could have asked for support from the developer.
Sorry OP, i'm kind of off topic here...
Now on topic... Yeah i do run PureNexus! And i never felt the need to swith to another ROM since. Well... Just because it works well for me doesn't mean it will work well for another user... Although normally it should, just like any other ROM on this forum!
About MegaPixel ROM, the developer's N6P is dead and he's going to upgrade to a Pixel, so no more update
I don't know about other ROMs. But since you only had two opinions, you'd better read through the developers forum and try installing a few ROMs for comparaison purpose. And if you don't like one, you can always switch to another one! At least you'll test by yourself and you'll see if it really suits your needs! :good:
Hey OP I definitely recommend PURE NEXUS or the NITROGEN OS rom.
Nitrogen OS + Flash kernel.
Pure Nexus also has an incredible user base with a ton of folks that help answer questions. I've been a PN user fairy consistently through two nexus phones. I also like Resurrection Remix.

It sound strange. I have never had one crash and i don't have any battery drain either. In fact, my first cycle gave me over 5 hours sot, and have no wake up or other problem.
RR is as far as i know also a good ROM, but under set process i got serious lag, both times i installed this ROM. But once set up, it runs fine. But for my taste, way to much settings and customisation. If you like all that stuff, RR is maybe the way to go. PN have nice customisation also, but not too much.

I tried Pure Nexus two separate times and it was lousy both times. It's a wildly overrated rom. People claim its not buggy yet if you read through the forum people talk about bugs on pretty much every single build of the rom. I've run many roms on many phones and honestly nothing perplexes me as much as the popularity of Pure Nexus.

Yeah sure... And yet you don't really know if the ROM is the culprit, since most of the time if not all the time, only one user reports having a specific issue. Of course, without providing any way to reproduce it, nor does he/she provides log for the developers to check. Who is to Blame? The ROM?
Pointing fingers at someone for your own mistakes or lack of common sense is easy. But who cares, it's a lot easier than trying to figure the issue on your own or help the developers to get it fixed.
Cheers, have a nice day... :good:

Sounds like it's your problem. If you don't know how to install AdAway, then you're probably not a reliable source for bug reports. Ironically, PN is one of the most (maybe the most) stable custom ROMs for this phone.
Pure Nexus + Franco Kernel = Amazing battery life and stability.

Lol , dang you should have known the self appointed Guardians of Devs (I think they are from middle Earth) , would find you, even in some random thread, these dudes can seek out an opportunity like an eagle spotting a mouse from the air.
Don't worry I'll drink an extra brew for you.
Give a try to Six ROM, is a Pixel themed rom and it runs smooth as it can be. Also battery life is good.
I would recommend Cortex but only if you also flash The Flash's kernel. On the stock kernel there are problems with battery drain. With Flash kernel Cortex is as smooth and bug free as any custom ROM I have ever run and it gives you a nice Pixel experience.
Hi.
I picked up a 6p for £30. It needs new volume buttons so I may as well change the battery while I'm fixing the buttons.
I'm back into flashing again after a period with Huawei phones.
Is development pretty good on this device? Can you recommend any ROMs that are super stable and have GPS?
Cheers.
problems...
some of the best roms are, AICP (weekly releases, full functions) and personally I like Resurrection Remix 7.2 both are Android 9 based and can't go wrong with em imo. These come highly customizable out of the box if that's your thing, or if your more into the stock-like "pixel experience" there is Pixel Experience rom with versions based on either Android 10 or 9.
What are the problems?
I've been using the Nexus 6P since January 2016, and now it is a secondary phone for me. I love flashing ROMs and that's how I use this phone now. You shall try the Pixel experience ROM based on Android 10- https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3970525, I haven't been able to register fingerprints/ nexus imprint in this ROM rest is working just fine.
Now, coming to what you should expect, in phrase- 'A lot of lag and nostalgia'. The device is very slow when compared to present generation flagship devices, and it will be evident everywhere, no matter what you're using this devices for the Snapdragon 810 won't let you do it not without a few hiccups here and there. As much as I hate the sluggish performance of this device there is a lot of nostalgia associated with this device and the amount of support this device is getting is simply amazing for which almost every bit of credit goes to the XDA developers community.
So, you're welcome have fun flashing/ or doing whatever you choose to do with your device. ✌

I disagree with you.
The 6P can without difficulties keep up with devices that have been manufactured recent.
A comparison with a OnePlus 7 or the Google Pixel 4 is relatively pointless with a view of the technological achievements in this time.
The well-known hardware issues do not apply to every device, btw.
If you look up the price for an angler or the shamu for example, with regard to the specs is the performance definitely more than legitimate in 2020.
I paid for the angler 90 Euro in tip-top condition. The shamu cost roughly the same.
Compare those with newer devices and you have to remember which possibilities come within.
In regard to dozens of restrictions which have been implemented.Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung and surely others are a pain², mate.
The Nexus series has of all other brands/devices the most loyal and foremost diverse selection of customized roms, kernel, not to forget the variety of applicable options.
There are not many other phones with 4yrs mileage and those possibilities.
I could write much more about this topic, but everyone who is a long time Nexus user with the according interest in customization is usually well informed about this subject.
Beside the awful manta is the Nexus series still a very good choice. If you are in our scene you have to look up the specs, make yourself a picture beforehand. So the problems shouldn't be not surprising for someone who is informed.
The Nexus 5 cost used even today at least ~110 Euro. This is a good example for their value;not only for nostalgiac causes, but for a reliable device with limited specs..The release of the hammerhead was 2012, you know.Nexus 7 is or was the most ever sold tablet.
Perhaps the child manufactured iPads have reached those numbers yet, but iOS is with Microsofts attempt to break into the smartphone market, the worst OS resp piece of hardware I have witnessed, therefore are these attempts, at least for me, not of relevance.

I forgot to response yesterday..
The development is still ongoing, but personally wouldn't I recommend any kind of FBE/FDE based roms(mostly Android 9 and 10).
I use the device at the time with Aosip 8.1, which is very stable and quite good developed.
I would also recommend that you try a rom without any custom kernel for the first time(s)..
I have not best experiences with either of them.
At last would I highly recommend the Nougat roms like Uber, PureNexus..those are without doubt the most reliable.
I hope you have fun with the device.
To your question regarding GPS reliability, would I look into the Magisk repository.
They have a great module for maximizing the signal and receiver accuracy.

Thanks for the reply.
For the moment I have settled on stock 8.1 rooted. I am not sure how to flash some of the newer ROM's using FBE/FDE. Plus the newer ROM's seen to have quite a few issues regarding finger print etc.
I'll wait a while and then see how these ROM's are progressing.

Alright.
Just beware of these awful bash/.bat scripts by Google for the fastboot installation.
I don't know which distribution you use..in any case should you avoid the fastboot/adb package in Debian's distro, they contain some bugs.
If you use Linux(Ubuntu, Mint, Debian..), dkwnload the sdk package(solely the fastboot part!) and set the path by hand.
If you need any advice I am happy to help out when there is an issue.
Here you will find the GPS - Magisk module, which I mentioned earlier, btw - >

PS
I don't want to diminish the work of the remaining developer here and am quite interested, but this device was not made for Pie, let alone Q.
Stick with the factory rom, altough it's very bloated.
PureNexus is the thinner brother of stock..but it is best as inform yourself far as possible and decide what you want.
