I just purchased my Nexus 7 yesterday and the default apps such as Play Books, Wallet, Play Magazines, Play Movies, Sound Search are all disabled by default. And after I enable them with Titanium Backup they are disabled after a reboot. When I try to use Play Books, none of my books will sync and a menu pops up saying I live in an unsupported country. I live in the United States and Play Books works without a problem on my S3. Oh, and the Play Books app also keeps having a menu pop up saying couldn't retrieve google play books library from google. Check your internet connection and try again. I've reflashed ROM. Done multiple factory resets. Wiped Play Books cache. Uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. Anybody have a fix for this? And I bought the tablet from a local Sam's Club if that helps any.

What ROM are you running? Is it an Android 4.1.2 or 4.2 ROM?
So you flash a ROM then restore the files from a backup you made with Titanium Backup? Are you restoring app + data only, not system data? What happens if you just install Books normally, it'll sync just fine with your Google account and everything, so you won't lose anything.
Or are you using a gapps zip file to flash after you installed the ROM zip? You're not using an Android 4.1.2 ROM with an Android 4.2 gapps zip are you?

Go into settings and check your date and time.. This is what google uses to determine where you are. Also be sure that your google account.. From there website has the correct time and date zone..
The above should resolve your problem and is the most likely and overlooked cause...
Good Luck .....

I'm running the stock 4.2.1. It's just rooted nothing else. Even when the device was fully stock I still had the same problem. I never restore date with Titanium Backup. I always redownload everything.
You're logged into your Google account and everything fine? If you were having this issue right out of the box, I'd take it back and explain the issue and get it exchanged, something doesn't seem right here.

The only other suggestion would be is to contact Google, I've done that before with a Play Store issue/question, and it wasn't as bad as you'd think it would be. I'd explain the issue, and see what they say. Don't mention anything about being rooted etc, but it may be worth a shot there.

Yep all other Google services work like Gmail, People, Currents, cards saved on Google Now all that syncs fine. But Play Books just keeps doing the same thing over and over. I already check the date and time formats on tablet and on Google account from my computer and all was correct. I'd really hate to return it, it was the last one they had.
if it were me, id return to stock, unroot, and put 4.2.1 on and go from there...

Yep just did that and same results. Play Movies, Play Books, Google Wallet keep saying not available for my country. I live in Mississippi. Right now it is fully stock, locked bootloader, did a factory reset and still a no go. On the phone with Sam's now to swap it out.
before id return it , i would do a different download of the 4.2.1. and reflash like starting from scratch,, these 7s, flylikeamutherfuker for flashing and roll from there live happily google after,:cyclops:

I should have tried the gps without wifi on. Already got the new one and back home now. Tried it in the store to make sure it worked and I'm glad to say it does. They just got a new shipment in today so I lucked out. That nexus I returned must have thought it was still in China.
And thank you all for trying to help me! Really appreciate it. I love my new nexus 7 Had a Toshiba Thrive before this which I still have. This is my first nexus device. Really like the 7 inch screen and being able to hold it in one hand is a huge plus.
Glad you got this resolved, and glad you can enjoy your device!

So after being completely stock and updated to 4.2.1. I used the root tool to unlock bootloader. After it boots up play books, play movies, sound search, google wallet go missing. A factory reset doesn't work. Apparently the apps are there but disabled. After enabling in play store I get the not supported in your country. Like seriously wth.. this isn't my first rodeo. Decided to use the root toolkit but that was obviously a big mistake. Anybody else have this problem after unlocking bootloader?
Just to update those who care.. I called Asus and they ran the serial number and said it's a South American model. Wtf right? So I'm fixing to go return it and go buy a new one at Office Depot then call Asus while I'm there and have them check out the serial number to make sure all is good. Never knew it would be this difficult getting my Christmas present. Lol.

I am having issues with downloading apps because every time I try to download an app on the play store it gives me this message when it starts to install. Is anyone else having this issue? And if so what have you done to fix it? I have searched this out and there really hasn't been much as far as results on answers that worked. I am rooted on MF3 and just recently in the last couple days started having this issue.

Same here. I can download and install apps of smaller size without issue. I don't understand why all of a sudden this has started to not work.

I have even tried to call google to ask them about the issue from two different phones and each time they couldn't hear me but I could hear them. Maybe somebody else could try contacting them about this issue? My mom's phone also has the "Package file is invalid" both on mobile data and wifi.
No issues here... just installed Torque free via web site on a desktop PC and Fancy via Play store app, over wifi.
I'm getting the same error. I can't install Chrome but I just installed swiftkey with no issues.

Update google framework and make sure you have no screen filter/dimmer running. If stil, try clearing cache and dalvik cache and reboot your device

Hi
thanks for info
I wiped both cache and my phone is up to date (don't know how I could update google framework out of google play) but still same issue.
what do you mean by screen filter dimmer ?
Some screen filters dissable on-screen buttons or over-use the RAM, so you wouldn't be able to open some functions. Try disable any filter.

Thanks again. I don't have any screen filters. I removed almost all programs.
I cannot go into google account setting to check what is synched or not because it's crashing as soon as I click on it on parameters.
I think last solution would be a total wipe but I would like to avoid.
any other idea ?
Kind regards
Fred
I confirm that problem too. It's on all Note 3 and S4 I have under my hand (8 devices). Both not rootet latest official firmware. Problem is with Google Play Services 9.0.83. They have a bug or incompatybility with Samsung Firmware!
same problem here
same thing is here ... but i saw work around in another thread throw the gallery
i need to know how to fix this problem :crying:
Yeah, trick with go thru the settings of stocks gallery works ok. But its not a solution.
I went through the Google Settings in the Google folder in the App Drawer and that worked for me.
Yep. Stock Note 3 here and same issue... But even when I can go to the account settings through the gallery app, my contacts keep disappearing now and then... so annoying!! Does that happen to you as well? It's fixed changing the contacts to show... sometimes. Or rebooting the phone.
@up its other issue in my opinion.
Any news or solution? ??

Google settings does not bring to sync options like the OP problem which is the same as what i am facing. The gallery method does. I think i will try to downgrade to OF1 and see whether it is due to the BOK3

it is the google play services that is at fault
try downloading a newer version like this google-play-services-9-2-56-release/google-play-services-9-2-56-238-124593566-android-apk
worked for me
Problem solved. Yesterday got 71MB security patch update from samsung, which solve the problem.
KatKiss 4.4.4 has kept our TF101s going for years, but the latest Google Play Services update seems to not be compatible and leads to constant "Google Play Services has stopped" messages, along with occasional, similar messages from gapps, and Services Framework.
Clearing caches and data, rolling apps back to factory will stop the messages. But make anything Google more or less unusable. Updating Play Services again starts the "has stopped" messages.
We have 2 TF101s, my wife keeps her auto-update on, I don't. Hers started first, so I went ahead and let mine update to see if it would have the same problem. As soon as Play Services updated, the errors began.
I know there are KatKiss versions for 5/6, but have always seen 4.4.4 recommended as the most stable for the TF101. However, we mostly use our tablets for reading with Play Books, so if there's another KatKiss version that Play Services still works with, I'd consider taking a performance hit just to get things working again. Or if there's another ROM someone can recommend that's confirmed still working with the latest Play Services update, that's stable on the the TF101, I'd be down for trying that too.
It's amazing how many years these tablets have worked for us. Obviously we are approaching the day when they will just be too old for most things, but I'd like to get a little more time out of them as our eBook readers.
TIA for any tips and assistance.
It's doing it on all versions of KatKiss.

Well, that's good to know, though bad news to hear.
Subscribing for updates as well...my transformer is still doing duty as the slingplayer -> chromecast and netflix -> chromecast hub but seems to be extra broken with this last google play services update.
Same problem here on two TF101, one 4.4.4, one stock.
I did factory reset and not registered my google email.
After this I disabled all Google on my tablets using Advanced App Permisions and now I am using Youtube in browser and the rest of my app from Amazone Appstore.
Shame on you GOOGLE!
I have some apps not free from Playstore, I spend my money and now they are useless, should I sue Google for this?

will try right now, thanks.
I managed to uninstall updates on Google Play services and Google Play store. But, every time I uninstall updates, in Google Play settings I found checked by default the option to auto-update! So, I must be very fast: uninstall updates- go to Google Play settings - uncheck autoupdate!
ANYWAY, Youtube and any other app related to Google wont start "unless you update Google Play". And, after installing Youtube, the repetitive message "has stopped" strating to appear again. TABLET USELESS.
EDIT NOTE: every time Google Play find a way to autoupdate EVEN I check in settings to disable autoupdates. I think is refer to disable autoupdate for other apps, not for itself.
About the Asus stock ROM:
Good: no popups!
Good: much faster than the KitKatt 4.4.4 that was installed for a couple of years. (Is there a way to take an installed ROM and make it fresher? For instance cold boot, or what?)
Bad: I had to download an APK to get Google Play running, so I could download Kindle app and a decent web browser.
Bad: After I updated the Gmail app, that app dies randomly when I read mail. So I reverted it back to the stock app again. Odd that even Google's own apps are not stable.
Happy now that I have my belowed TF101 running again. I will put KatKiss back again, soon. What's your experiences with KatKiss 6 vs 4.4.4?
Could someone explain in more detail how to stop the auto-update once I'm in KatKiss?
Same Issues Here // B80 TF101
I've been battling this as well. I just pulled out my TF101 from the drawer its been sitting in for two years. I was stoked when I saw the 6.0 KatKiss! Put TWRP on and flashed it right away. Started getting the dreaded "Play Services" errors and issues. I've since reflashed twice, tried the 5.1 version (twice), the 4.4.4 version and back to the 6.0. Each time wiping, installing the rom, superSU, the correct Gapps and then wiping cache/dalvik.
Seems the only thing I can do is uninstall the updates to Play services to keep it stable, until it auto updates. I'd like to use this in the truck this summer for Google Maps or Waze, but if I can't get it stable back in the drawer it will go.
Kind of crazy that a 6 year old tablet still runs this well!
If I find anything I will post it for others to take advantage of, and if anyone finds something, even minor, please post it! :good:

My only issue is it will only read the latest text messages from Android messages (Google's messenger) and NOT from Samsung messages! ? I've tried everything I know... Cache clearing, restarts, etc... No joy. That's bullshirt

This morming i pressed the home for google nkw and it seems now i have goovle assistant. Now sure when my google app was updated. I tried what u said and it does read messages from my samsung messaging app.
last night my wife's s7 edge and mine both received it!
Install Google Allo from Google Store, now brings you Google Assistant. Just long press Home button to use it.

Root is a great thing, been running it for a few weeks now, it's pretty sweet. Never had an experience with Siri so idk how to compare

I guess because I *HAD* Android Messages installed it's trying to pull from its data base... I've tried EVERYTHING to get Assistant to read messages from samsung messages - and I'm sure there is a solution, but I sure don't know what it is
I've uninstalled Android Messages, cleared all the caches I can think of, and it STILL will read the last message reveived from my wife that was in ANDROID MESSAGES... even though I've received 5+ more thru Samsung messages... very strange. OH WELL.. I guess I'll fix it when I do a clean install again in a few days.
I just got the update. Pretty slick. I like it. I had an iPhone before with siri. Google finally caught up on the digital assistant front.
I got google assistant last night, one question about is there a way to disable the voice response while playing music or videos?
