SOLVED - No Mobile Network after abroad prepaid-SIM was inside. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Since my english is too bad, I let Google translate the text ...
Was in the Netherlands on vacation and in the host country a prepaid SIM used, which worked problem-free. Back home (Switzerland) no MobileNetwork connection is possible any more. APN was controlled with the provider (Swisscom) and seems to be correct. Receiving the configuration SMS failed, but "normal" SMS can be received and sent. Voice and WLAN works fine.
Deleting DATA, DALVIK and CACHE via TWRP did not help. Also did not help remove the battery. No system update or the like has been made in the meantime.
Does anyone have an idea, which I can still make?

I would delete APN settings and look them up in Google, input them manually.

Thanks for the tip, but I have already done. Have the APN-Settings deleted and newly created, nevertheless it does not work anymore.
Have also the file under /etc/apns-conf.xml.txt deleted and replaced by other version. Still does not work.
Is there a way to debug the error?

You mean "apns-conf.xml"
Try to dirty flash your rom.

Yes exactly, the apns-conf.xml I have deleted. Where are the manually entered parameters stored?
Unfortunately I have the original files of my ROM no longer, I would have to look first here again. Do you mean "dirty flash", the ROM over the already existing system flashen?
If I still knew how, I would only flash the modem again. The system works sunnily.
It is also funny that the SMS-APN configuration can not receive from the provider, but all other SMS arrive.

User apn is stored in "/data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/com.android.settings_preferences.xml"
Yes, i mean flash again the same rom over the existing one.
And sms don't need apn to work, only data and mms do.

"Dirty flash" unfortunately did not help.
Search now a suitable modem and the guide to update only the modem.

Unfortunately, the update or even change from the modem did not help.
Property therefore a complete new installation of a stock ROM. Then again TWRP and CM13, now everything works as before.
Thanks anyway

My solution for those with the same problem:
After deleting all the files didn't solve the problem, the following trick helped:
Plugged in an old, no longer working SIM from an Italian provider and waited for the message from the network operator, "SIM invalid". Then I plugged in my SIM and everything works again...

[Q] No phone-network after ICS CM9

Hi,
I've used CM7 and CM9 before with no major problem. But probably did something wrong because after flashing couple of ICS ROMs my phone (Defy-red lens) became unusable with 2 problems:
- no mobile network connection (no phone-calls, no SMS, no 2/3G)
(Wifi and Bluetooth are OK)
- it does not save the setup, each boot is a new phone with new configuration setup.
I've tried different ROMs (CM9, Quarx, Skanky, etc) with different Kernels (7 & 9), but nothing seems to change this behavior.
The phone also doesn't recognize the IMEI and can't search of operators. I've attached some screeshots.
I was wondering if someone else could share their experience with me or, somehow try to help me. I'm willing to try out things....
Cheers.
You tried changing your baseband??
Sent from my Defy+ using Tapatalk 2
Baseband is not initialized/installed. In the first pic, it shows the baseband as 'unknown'. Select proper baseband matching your country from Baseband Switcher (settings -> Advanced->Baseband Switcher) and reboot your phone.

Baseband is by default on Europe > Central Europe > 3.4x 900/2100 MHz which is not right for me. Should be America > Brasil > TIM 3.4.2-107-9 850/2100 Mhz.
The problem is, as I mentioned, that the phone does not save any settings. After the reboot the Baseband comes back to the default setting.
I already did the wipe factory/reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache many times before/after flashing a ROM (and event deleted the dalvik cache folder via terminal emulator since it wasn't asking for confirmation when deleting via cwm) but didn't really change anything...
Any idea what's leading to the settings not being saved?
Thank you for helping.
PS: I didn't play with partitions, but as I've read in this post, of a similar problem, that this might be the case, I'll post the screenshot of the command df just in case...

try BBs_v4

Thanks. I was able to change the baseband with this app (and somehow keep this setting after a reboot - see screenshots), but under "About phone" still shows as Baseband version Unknown. And I still have no network signal...
Meanwhile... the matter with partitions and settings lost after reboot:
I know a litte of Linux, but I don't understand Android's structure or how it deals with partitions, but I might have found something:
In Bootmenu Recovery > Advanced > Show Log reads:

ro.revision=0
I:Cheching for extendcommand...
I:Skipping execution of exetendcommand, file not found...
W: failed to mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p25 (Invalid argument)
As I see that in the system there are others blocks with similar names (screenshots in post #4), I was wondering if this might be related to the problem I'm dealing with (loosing settings after reboot).
I see some people had problems with this block/partition, for instance in this post - Issue with /dev/block/mmcblk1p25, but I couldn't figure out how they fixed.
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi fbugnon,
I have the same problem on my Defy. I've tried to use 2 differents builds from wdscript.fr (120613 and 120610), installed baseband switcher, but the problem is the same as yours.
Everytime the phone restarts, it resets all settings.
I'm trying to use a build from quarx (quarx2k.ru, build 120305) now, let's see if that helps.
I'll keep you updated.
Hi tiagomelo,
I've tried many differents ROMs but no one was able to change this behavior. I'm not sure, but I believe the problem is related to the partition error mentioned on my last post -- do you also have the same problem?
I was forced, eventually, to do a full SBF with Tim's original system so that I could use my phone and now I'm using CM 7.2 rc3.... Waiting for ICS to solve the calendar sync bug which is crucial for my work and then I'm back on.
Wish you good luck! And please keep us posted, I would like to know where this will lead you to.
Cheers

Guys i dont know if if i can help you over here but i was some issues with the call/data/3g ... for me as soon as i tried using them they froze completely, not the phone but the signals .. its was related to my baseband settings and stuff,
so i found a solution for this ...
go into recovery cpu settings,
Status: enable
Enable all modules
Scaling: Conservative
dont forget to save at bottom and reboot
if these settings worked for you then it should be alright
This is just a suggestion to the issue .. u can try it .. I don't know if it is %100...
for me it works

That's a different thing. The reason for your freeze would be something with your CPU/chipset.
Good to see someone who is familiar with this issue of mine ..
so would u b able to tell me why i was having this problem with the chipset/cpu related to calls and data download ...
i know its not the right thread but i tried other thread but no answers yet
i came across this solution after a lot of seaching .. trial n error
u dont know what i've been through ... but using this settings doesnt give me good downloading speed in google play though

Hi Ajitnegi,
As mentioned before, the only solution I could find to this problem was restoring the orignal ROM (Motorola's) by doing what they call a full SBF (you can read a bit about sbf in here or in posts on this forum).
Sorry not being able to help any further. Good luck.
Cheers.
Same problem | No network connection
Hi
I am also facing the same problem, no network connection. After going through this post where you had asked to change the baseband settings to the country specific, I did change it. Unfortunately, even after changing the baseband settings, after reboot it changes to default value (.i.e. Central Europe).
While going through this forum, I could not find any final settings provided by the developer, did you get any ? If so, can you point out to it.
Thanks,
Nash

Hi Ajitnegi
I don't know if this is the only way to fix it, but In order to recover MY phone I had to flash a full SBF, which is -- as I understand -- basically a Motorola Recovery that works pretty much like a factory reset. Search the forum and I'm sure you'll find someone explaining how to do it.
Or if you rather take some time to better understand what's going on with your phone before you start flashing it, you might want to take a look at this excellent "All-in-one Defy Beginner's Guide".
Cheers

Thanks alot for your hard job, this ROM is AMAZING!
I have signal drop after install this ROM (using version 2012/7/21).
To solve my problem, I copied the File_GSM and File_Seem_Flex_Tables files from my stock ROM (Retail Brazil) and replace the CM9 files.
I put the files in /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default and reboot, and now I have strong signal and no more drop calls.
The ROM CM9 to Motorola Bravo CrystalTalk function is supported. I tried to copy the file Phone.apk this ROM for the Milestone 2 and the option to configure the CrystalTalk appears in the phone settings, but after a reboot the settings are lost.

Ok I will try this. I've extracted the files from a gb nandroid backup so I think that this is almost the same but I will give it a try.
I've also used the baseband switching app with no luck.
Anyone knows witch files manage the 3g on our phones¿ I replaced the ones that are listed in the above posts but are there others?
Thank you mates

Hi,
I got the same problem for Wifi and in minor way for 3G with mine (my baseband is EPU93_U_00.60.00).
I deactivated the national roaming but reactivated it now for testing ...
For the Wifi I tried to disable 802.11n in the tiwlan.ini file but seems to not work.
I'll try to do the requested log readings from tezet when I would have time.
A message for lotan_rm, you're not the alone one (also need to reach 10 post for posting in dev )

So you didn't replaced the original files. The attached files are with differents permissions. Use root explorer to replace the files and it will be with wrong permissions. Then, you change the permissions and reboot. At least here the permissions were wrong...

I'm from spain. The sbf that worked well for me was the uk gingerbread (MILS2_U6_4.1-22_SIGNED_UCAMILESTONE2B1B80E1014.0R_USXMILE2GBRTDACH_P013_A007_HWp2a_Service1FF.sbf).
I didn't replace that files because these are for brasil baseband. I replaced those files with ones on my backup that worked well. The problem persists.
So then I created a sbf using motoandroid depacker that only containts the cg45.smg (baseband files). Flashed it. Problem persists.
Checked the files permissions they are ok.
Used baseband changing app. Sadly, problem persisits.
I tried also a clean install. (flash uk gb, then install cm10 doing all the wipes etc...)

[TOOL] [ANDROID] [4.3/4.4] Verizon MMS APN Patch + Alternatives

Flash Phone Number-specific APNs
This script I created will add your phone number to the APNs file and create a flashable zip for you. The APNs file is from LiquidSmooth and the magic line has been moved up to the top so that you don't need to hunt for it.
Instructions:
1) Ensure you have a zip binary, likely located at /system/xbin. If not, flash zip_binary_flashable.zip from recovery.
2) Ensure you have busybox. Stericson's 1.22.1 definitely works: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox. Others may not, try Stericson's before reporting problems.
3) Unzip the vzw_apn_patch zip to an empty folder on your sdcard
4) Edit phone.txt with your 10-digit phone number (no dashes, no "1" at the beginning)
5) Open an Android Terminal
6) Run "cd /sdcard/your_folder"
7) Run "sh patch.sh"
8) Reboot to recovery and flash PATCHED_APNS.zip

I maintain a ROM for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and was alerted to this APN modification that fixes MMS issues which seem to plague many toro users: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50958379&postcount=86 . So I decided to whip up a quick script for the Android terminal that will add your phone number to the APNs file and place it on /system/etc for you. The APNs file is from LiquidSmooth and the magic line has been moved up to the top so that you don't need to hunt for it.
Instructions:
1) Unzip vzw_apn_patch.zip to an empty folder on your sdcard
2) Edit phone.txt with your phone number (no dashes)
3) Open an Android Terminal
4) Run "su"
5) Run "cd /sdcard/<your folder>"
6) Run "sh patch.sh"
Let's start with this for now. I can add Windows and Linux/Mac versions if anyone would want that. I can also have my script create a flashable zip for the APNs file.

A flashable APN zip would be really nice.
Thanks for getting this out there for us!

so i tried this, thanks for the fix btw.
I put in the number with no dashes or 1 at the begining (i tried with the 1 at first and it wasn't working(all the run commands etc went through but after reboot, mms on 3g still not sending
so after taking out the 1 at begining of the number in the phone.txt file.. running the steps of commands and seeing poo's script(?) do it's thing in the terminal: after another reboot when terminal requested the mms on 3g still would not send, using 8sms app, hmmm any ideas what might be going wrong?
I am using latest clean install version of cmremix.. toro gnexus, THANKS!

So you ended up running the script twice, first with a "1" at the beginning, then without? And you didn't delete everything in the folder before trying the second time? Not saying that you necessarily should have, I'm just not sure how my rather simple script would handle such a case.
Take a look at /system/etc/apns-conf.xml. Does the first APN line correctly match:
<apn carrier="LTE - Verizon Internet" mcc="311" mnc="480" apn="VZWINTERNET" type="default,supl,mms,dun" user="your number[/B][/U]@vzwpix.com" password="null" server="null" mmsc="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=your number" protocol="IPV4V6" roaming_protocol="IPV4V6" bearer="14" />

great reply! so i checked and the 1 is still in there in the number(in the xml file you had me check), I must have messed up the process or something, can I fix it? I tried to re-run the first time and it confirmed that it worked and prompted reboot etc, you think I should try again or did I miff it up by doing something i shouldn't have in the first place:/ ha sorry for the hassle!
To be clear when I went back into the phone.text file on the sd card in the folder, I was unable to edit from the phone(rookie move probably) so I plugged into laptop and still couldn't edit it so I deleted the file directly off the (phone.txt) then created a new phone.txt file on the desktop put in correct number no 1 this time or dashes of course. hmmmmm
Then put file in folder and reran scripts in terminal and rebooted and here we are hmmm

When you run the script, it takes the template xml, adds in your phone number, and renames it to apns-conf.xml. Then this gets copied over to /system/etc which is where it needs to be. But my script doesn't delete that apns-conf.xml from your sdcard. So when you reran it the second time, it may have not created the new apns-conf.xml because the old one was still there. And then the script just recopied the old one to /system/etc. I think if you delete apns-conf.xml from the sdcard and start over, you'll probably get it this time.
Clearly I still have some tweaking to do. Thank you very much for the feedback by the way.

hah didn't think of that, perfect!
So i reran the script after deleteing the apn file and confirming it was gone etc, now looking at the html file as before i see the 1 is in fact not there so yay, but mms isn't sending, well it says still sending, although sms does work hmm
---------- Post added at 02:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:45 AM ----------
i tried with stock messaging at that last time, I will try with 8sms now
---------- Post added at 02:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:47 AM ----------
K, so the verdict is it's not sending I can add myself to the mms (group) message or whatever and I receive it but the other people do not hmm, I would love to be able to use mms and 3g instead of only 4g on a lot of these ROMS:highfive:

cool cool! thanks for the info and efforts! If figure out what I'm doing wrong or anything I'll make a post
New version of the tool added to the OP. It's much more elegant now. It'll remove old files that will conflict first if they exist, put your phone number in the APNs file, create a flashable zip, and output the APN line in question so that you can verify that it was substituted correctly. The script will NOT go ahead and replace your APNs on /system like the last one did, you need to flash the zip from recovery. Make sure to read the updated instructions in the OP.

I don't know if this will help, but I was one of those Toro users who was having MMS issues on Liquid's KK roms. MMS would send/receive on 4g but not on 3g (or lower). This was particularly vexing and noticeable to me because I spend a large amount of time in marginal data areas and deal with a sizable number of group texts. (And before I get jumped on, I understand not every user has the issue). I tried every suggestion I saw to get MMS to function but nothing worked (assorted text clients, playing with APNs, etc). Based on a suggestion in one of the threads, I switched over to the SlimKat rom. I haven't had any MMS issues on 5.9 or 6.6 (the only two I have tried thus far).
Slim uses a proprietary gapps set, Liquid points you to the standard PA gapps. I would not think that is a factor, but I mention it just in case.
I say this not to praise one rom over another, but if one of you master coders could figure out what Slim is doing vs. what Liquid is doing, it may help get to the bottom of the issue.

My gut tells me that this is not a gapps issue and that it's an APN problem. I downloaded slim's latest toro build and looked at their APNs and they are significantly different than LS's.
So let's try this... I put Slim's APNs file into a flashable zip. Those of you that have MMS problems, try flashing the attached zip and see what happens.

ive attached the verizon section of the apn file from my rom. if you compare, you can see that slims is quite similar, but adds more duplicate entries with different "bearers." hmm..

MMS was previously NOT working for me at home on the east coast. i mention this because it DID work in alaska, which makes me suspect that Verizon changed their APNs at some point and the 3rd party carrier in alaska (alaska communications) still uses the older APNs.
ROM in sig: CM-REMIX on toro. Now, tested multiple times and working, even with Wifi on.

Well I'll be damned. Who knew that getting past this vzw mms bug was just a matter of using slim's apns?!?! If we could get a few more people to confirm this, I think we can run with it!

SM-G900V 6.0.1 Custom Rom verizon mobile data not working, custom APNs disappear

Searching the forums i've found scattered reports of similar issues but only one possible solution. The fix seemed to work for a few minutes but now can no longer get to work.
Unlocked bootloader and installed vincom's superlite 6.0.1 rom from https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-superlite-mini-mm-v1-0-361mb-g900w8-t3497158. Also flashed the 6.0.1 QL1_MODEM_NON-HLOS and QL1_MODEM from https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/modem-modems-t3154630. Everything seems to work except mobile data. Phone calls can be placed and received with no problem. Text messages can be received but not sent.
Viewed the Access Point Names (cannot be accessed through the normal settings menu but accessible using the Change Apn app) and can see a variety of Verizon APNs with possibly outdated information (MCC 311 MNC 480)? Attempted to create a new APN using instructions at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61262681&postcount=3 and info at https://bestmvno.com/apn-settings/verizon-wireless-apn-settings/ While the APN disappeared, as do any of the other options when the MCC and MNC is changed, the new settings still show up in /data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/com.android.settings_preferences.xml (as mentioned in https://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ved-in-android)
The first time I created the new APN the LTE icon showed up and i was able to view websites using mobile data and receive text messages. 10 minutes later tried to send a text message and it failed, then noticed that no mobile data was working again. Have tried repeating the previous steps, but still no luck.
Any help is greatly appreciated

There's a few things to try to get the APN populated because the APN's are, typically, updated via the Verizon Network.
1) Sometimes if you Toggle the "Preferred network type to/from Global to LTE and restart the device, this sometimes will help with the APN's to get refreshed/updated.
2) I've got Net10 on my G900V and I have had to perform a Chat Session with the Net10 Support people (because I've had better luck with chat versus calling. That's your choice) and asked them if they can perform a Network Refresh for my device on the Verizon Towers. They may ask me to check one or two things that I usually respond with it looks good to get them to do the Network Refresh.
I hope one of these works for you and that I had explained this okay via text.
Good Luck!

The ability to access that specific setting is dependent upon the Firmware ROM installed. The Firmware would have to be developed with this feature.
This should be asked within the "Vincom's Superlite ROM" Thread.
Maybe they have this specific setting located elsewhere on your device...

I'm not 100% sure regarding the Stock Firmware because I haven't had it on my G900V in quite a long time.
I've got 2 of them and 1 Has CyanogenMod and the other has LineageOS.
If memory serves me correctly (with a lost mind... LOL!) I believe that you may be able to access these options using one of the specific Dialer Codes but, I can't remember what any of them are.
As I had stated before, your best bet is to obtain some member guidance within the Firmware thread your using.
I wish you the best of luck!

Another thing to try is find the boot image from the original rom and flash that. I do believe that requires a custom recovery like twrp. Is their a specific reason youre not using something like LineageOS or Candy Rom? They both have Android Oreo 8.1 versions available.
