Greetings,
Just purchased Tab A SM-T580, 16GB, Android 6.0.1. For unknown reason it doesn't accept wifi password with symbol such as ^, ~ etc while all other device Galaxy Note 3, S5, iPad Air, iPad Pro, Laptop, Desktop etc has no problem. Tab A can only connect to my wireless network if I change password to only letter and number. Is there something wrong with the tablet?
Thanks in advance for your time and help.

What symbol? I use $, @, and # with no problems on a dozen or so networks.

My password contains ^ and ~. As mentioned, other devices including Samsung phone and Note Pro tablet connect with this password without any issue. Only tab a refuses to take it. I had to remove these symbols.

Sorry, I know this is the 10.1 forum, but I didn't find one for 8.9. And i guess there's not a huge difference.
I've got my 8.9" tab today, but I'm not able to connect to the wi-fi network. I've found the network and I've typed the correct password, but my tab is just switching between scanning and getting an IP address.
I know the password is correct, had to type it on my phone earlier today and it worked just fine.

Hi
did you check if the MAC address filtering is turned on on your access-point ?
I get that once in the while... I've got 10.1 and when i leave it for few hours it just cannot connect to the network. Usually restart of the tab fixes the problem but sometimes I have to restart router as well

Hi, when I log my Tegra Note 7 onto my wireless network it shows up as 2 devices, 2 IP adresses, 2 MAC adresses and 2 host names. Does anyoune know why this is? It doesn't seem to affect performance but my other Android devices don't do this.
Cheers,
Stu.

Hi
i'm not sure if you mean that the device shows up twice on the network or the network shows up twice on the device?
my Virgin router has two network id's and passwords because it has 2.4ghz and 5ghz modes. ( i set up the network id's and passwords myself). my N7 2012 only shows the 2.4ghz id but my N5 shows both and will connect to either
dual band wifi isn't supposed to be available on the Vega 7 (i had the original Vega before my 2012 N7 and am looking at buying one next time it's sub-£100 so i don't have any device to test yet) but i presume that could allow it to connect to both at the same time and give the Vega two addresses on your network?...
I have to turn my wi-fi on mamually at home. The note3 connects with hotspots at a store or mall, but on returning home I have to connect manually.
The only difference I can see is that my wi-fi at home is password protected and the others are not
i have a Galaxy Note3 sm-b90005 with Android version 4.4.2.
Thanks for your ideas and suggestions.

Thank you for your quick reply.
There is, I think, no other way to establish a connection without entering the pw. I did, just to be sure, remove the connectiono and re-entered ir and it does insist on the pw.
Thanks
Yes there is . I have had that prob to after the update. But 8 installed instabrigde it is designed to share internet connections with friends without having to retype the paswords over and over. But the handy part is it remembers all of your pw and reconnects automaticly with the wifi connections you have puten in there. Try it you might like it.

I just purchased the Samsung Galaxy S5 and I have a Western Digital My Net N750 Router. I have SSID Broadcast Disabled and the S5 won't connect. If I start broadcasting the SSID it has no problems connecting.
I have over 20 other devices that have no problems connecting with the SSID disabled, so I don't understand why the S5 can't do it. Even my 3 year old Samsung Galaxy Nexus has no problems connecting with SSID disabled.
I called Verizon and they said they haven't heard of this problem before and that the phone is defective and to return it for a replacement but I have a feeling I'll have the same problem with the replacement phone. I've searched Google trying to find people with similar problems but I can't find any other posts. Can you please help me! Thanks so much.

Perhaps so, but if you don't you won't know for sure. You can try to get it working, but if you exchange and it still continues to not work, then Verizon has it on the books that you had a defective device, and they can start working on fixing that silly problem.

I was hoping someone with the same phone can test it to see if they have the same issues. I'm going to do a factory reset right now to see what happens for troubleshooting purposes. That's also what Verizon recommended that I do. Then I'm going to Verizon to exchange it. If someone else with the same phone can test it to see if it works on your phone or not I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks so much!
I wonder if it's a compatibility issue with my router. Maybe I should go try it on someone elses router and not broadcast their SSID and see what happens. That will help me determine if my phones defective, or if it's a compatibility issue, etc.
I'll still do a factory reset and replace the phone if I still have problems to see what those results are too. It would also be helpful if people with the same phone tested it out to see what their results are. Thanks!

Thanks for the information. To help me trouble shoot it did you connect 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? What's the make & model of your router? I'm trying to figure out if my phone is defective or it'a a compatibility issue with my router. I'm trying to connect 5Ghz so maybe I'll try 2.4Ghz now. I'll also try connecting with someone else's router. Thanks!
Try adding the network manually

I had this same issue. It would happen if I had the SSID broadcasting, connected my S5, then turned off the broadcast on the router. It wouldn't work if the phone had found the network through a scan. I got mine to work (with my Netgear R6250) by adding wireless network manually on the phone. Hope this helps you, too.
Any resolution on this? I have the same issue. Since I'm rooted and happy, I really don't want to return my phone.

I am aware this reply is over a year later but I am assuming that there may be others this issue is happening to.
I also had the identical problem. When SSID was set to broadcast, the One Plus and Samsung Galaxy S5 would connect without any issues as normal. When the SSID was set not to broadcast, I would have an authentication error and/or show the WiFi connection saved. All this started after the router's f/w and both phones' (Android)OS were updated. This was on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.
Here's the solution - this is done on the phones/mobile units having the connection issues AND having your router's SSID's set not to broadcast.
1) Hold and press the WiFi connection and select "Forget"
You will now more than likely see those available. Make sure you don't use these connections
2) You now have to chose the option to "Add Network" from the menu (One Plus) or "Add Wifi Network" at the bottom of the WiFi settings on the Galaxy S5.
3) Manually type in the SSID you want to connect to, select the type of security and enter the password for your WiFi
4) Repeat steps 2) and 3) if you have a second SSID you want to connect to
5) You should be able to now connect to your Wifi network, if not reboot your phone/mobile device and you should now be able to connect.
Hope this helps you out.

I have an older Galaxy Tab A 10.1 tablet and it has no problems randomizing its MAC address, but my new Galaxy Tab A7 tablet with the latest firmware and "Randomize MAC" setting doesn't work. There is an option for it, but as soon as the tablet tries to connect to selected WiFi SSID, "Randomize MAC" selection sets itself "Tablet MAC". Trying to edit SSID settings and reselecting "Randomize MAC" after the connection is made also doesn't work. The tablet just keeps reverting back to "Tablet MAC". Enabling/Disabling "MAC Randomization Enhancement" in Developer Settings has no effect.
Any ideas? Is this a known issue with Galaxy Tab A7?
Bump!? Could someone, please, test.
Double Bump!
Really?
?
Still interested in knowing!
Aren't there not any Galaxy Tab A7 owners/users on this forum who can spend a few minutes to see if MAC randomization works for them?
Please?

Since i have two sm-t500 Tab A7 2020 tablets (both the 32 as well as the 64GB storage version running One UI 3.1 with buid number RP1A.200720.012.T500XXU3BVD# on the 64GB version and Lineage no freakin wifi edition on the 32 Gigabrick version, i found it quite a little effort to have a look and the MAC setting remains randomized while switching between accespoints and just to be sure i did check the Mac and it did change as promised after enabling this option in Dev Options. So yeah.... your tab has an issue it seems...
Thank you for checking!
No problem man. And it also shouldn't be considered a problem to all of them that ran into your question while searching for answers themselves. You waited 2.5 months for someone to have a quick peek. That's bad...
