Hi all, just thought I'd throw this one out here for you all to read. I have a Nexus 5, my wife bought me a Moto G for Xmas which I was going to use as a back up phone as I thought it would never be as good as my N5.
However, after having played with it for a bit and being thoroughly impressed, I went back to my N5, but I couldn't help but feel it was a bit too big, and that the screen looked too yellow, and that it just didn't feel so good to hold.
Now, don't get me wrong, the N5 is a firecracker of a device, it's blazingly quick, has every conceivable bit of hardware you could want, and performs reliably, but there is just an appeal to the Moto G that I can't quite put my finger on, that keeps dragging me back to it in favour of the N5.
I think, that every so often, someone comes up with a device that somehow just appeals in such a way that gets everyone talking about it, and this is one of those devices. Mainly due to the price, but for me, it's more about the timely updates and the fact that it just works, and well. It's not too big or too small. It doesn't feel cheap nor is it ostentatious. It's just right, and it has a battery that lasts all day, and as of yet, has never missed a beat. Motorola are going to sell shedloads of these things, and I for one will be watching closely to see what they bring out next..
Roll on Kitkat!

The N5 its a great device but i have to say that im WAY more impressed with the moto G than what i was with the N5...
Its justo an amazing phone with an amazing performance, not to mention its build quality feels a lot better than what other companies have in phones with 3 times the price (Samsung)
Its feels... Good

Yes, I think it boils down to expectations a lot. Although the N5 can be considered cheap for its spec, it's no where near as good value as the Moto G is

Sounds like you should just sell both of them and get a Moto X lol.
I would if I could buy one, not everybody lives in the states you know!

My Moto G get more use than my Note 3 does atm, I originally bought it as a backup & a works phone, but i finding myself taking it everywhere and leaving the Note 3 at home.
Tbh i think this is the best phone Motorola ever released in the UK at least.... No Moto X atm, and can't wait for it to get Kitkat sometime this month & it will get before the Note 3 see it aswell.
I had both and ended up returning the nexus 5 after I made up my mind that I wanted a cheap phone that just works. Moto G does that and more. It can honestly be the best midrange device if they sold it as such.
Sent from my XT1034 using Tapatalk
I still have my Nexus 5, although I may sell it at a later date and grab a 16gb Moto G. If I'd have known she was getting me one I'd have been cheeky and asked for a 16gb one.

I agree, the Moto G is really an amazing phone. First, I wanted to buy a Nexus 5 then I discovered the Moto G and bought it because of the really attractive price. And it's just perfect. The screen is great, the build quality is near perfect and the size of the device is perfect. I really enjoy my Moto G and I paid it only 139€ for the 16Gb/Go model.
Motorola just kill all the other budget phones...

True i paid £74 for mine try getting any other Android device with these kind of specs for that price is impossible.
Samsung, Sony, HTC & LG won't ever offer anything as good as the Moto G as they fear it cut into the sales of their top end smartphones, so they purposely dumb down the specs on their low to midrange phones.

PAYG I work for Tesco's so with staff discount and a £15 voucher I received at Christmas in a booklet they gave all Staff
To me anyway.... I find the N5 like a Dodge viper.... Fast and powerful, but not too refined.... Not compared to the luxury car makers anyway.

Lucky Git lol!
Mine was from phones4u, although factory unlocked. So I don't mind paying a bit extra. I use it on 3 with all you can eat data, and even without dc-hspa capability I can still get around 10-14mb/s DL speed on it. The N5 however will reach about 23mb/s, but, in all honesty, the Moto is more than fast enough for most cases.

Well, the radio supports hspa+ which is theoretically capable of a maximum of 21Mb/s, so it should be capable of more under ideal conditions. Network traffic is most likely your problem being in London.

Its only going to be available in UK and India for now, no mention of other countries or continents.
We are also getting a moto g4 "play" in UK, an identical device to the new E3, but with more ram (2gb) for £130, that's around $150, quite what the point of that device is I'm not sure.......

It looks like the only difference between the G4 Play and the E3 is the processor (SD410 vs MT6735P) and the speaker being on the lower chin of the device.

It will REALLY please most people that the moto e3 will be a mediatek.......NOT[emoji26]
I made a post on the moto e general section early in the year when the specs for the 3rd gen were first rumoured, and was was told there was NO way moto would give such a popular device a mediatek processor, oh well!

Umm I Have Both Moto G3 and G4 Plus ( Die Hard Moto Fanboy Had a G2 Too ) I Feel Moto is Losing There Unique Design Language That Made It Standout from Chinese Brands and Also G4+ Has A Lot on Heating Issues ( Worse than It Sounds ) and Depending on What Type Of Phone You Get (its a Lottery) You are Gonna Face Burn-in or Ghost Touch Issues So If You Are Into Custom ROMs Than I Would Suggest Buy G3 Instead Of G4+ Its Not Worth It Development Is Equally Good if Not Better and If You Do End Up Buying a G4+ Make Sure to Protect That Camera Lens Gets Scratched Up Too Easily
Otherwise Miso (RN4) Does Exists

imo, if you can help it, stay away from Motorola. They've been really shoddy about updates for all their phones, including the G4. There have also been issues regarding ghost touches/screen failures, but nearly every phone has its share of issues and the G4 is not unique in this regard.
If you plan to root/ROM your phone, the G4 is not a bad choice as there are a variety of ROMs to choose from, as well as decent support.
Even if you do purchase a G4+, don't spend more than $200 USD on it. Any more than $200, and you can get vastly better phones such as the Nexus 5X, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3/4, and the Huawei Honor 6X.

Well, don't forget that the Nexus 5X also has the bootloop issue.
If you want to root and ROM, I heartily recommend the 2015 X/X Pure if you can afford it. Or the OnePlus 2.
But, if you're going to stay on stock, get a Nokia 6 (or whatever other phones they have). Stock Android with super fast updates.
My previous phone was an iPhone 4. I am very happy with my G4+ and they can be had for a $200 for the 64GB model. There are many well supported ROMs to choose from. Most OEM update support sucks...a friend of mine dropped $700 on his Galaxy S7 and is in 7.0 with the February security patch. Due to fantastic developer (thank you OAdam11 for Tesla) support, I am running 7.1.2 with the May 5 security update. I would recommend it.
Redmi note 4x(Snapdragon ) except bootloader unlocking is difficult to somebody ( not for me), definitely better than g4plus.I had both ,but as per development and MIUI , Redmi note 4x is my choice for your budget.

I bought a second hand one for gps use last month and ended up using it as my primary device. I also have a Moto x play and kumia (pointless). I bought it for 140usd - 9000inr. The back camera lens is scratched a bit but there is no other issue. Photos are clear though. The phone is very nice and it doesn't heat up for me as many people say. Gets fully charged in 1.25 hours. I don't play games so for other use it works awesome.
It is way better than Moto x play which I bought when it released. The camera is good. That can be also an option for you . Or, you can go for Nexus 5x. Price dropped and you can also find a second sale phone for less than 150. If you are so Keen about the quality buy a scratched phone for low price, replace the case housing. It's new.
I have a lumia 640xl which I refurbished under 100usd. It still works charm..
Go for it mate...
I know it's been several months since someone posted something here, but I'm curious to know your opinion on this...
I have just purchased an used Moto G4 Plus XT1644 4GB + 64GB yesterday at B&H Photo in excellent condition (10 out of 10), at least that's how they described it, for $138.50 shipped. It's arriving on Thursday.
I was not aware of its many issues like, heating issues, screen burn in / ghost touches and so on... So now I'm kinda worried about my decision...
My wife had an iPhone 6 and I converted her to a Moto G5 Plus about 3 to 4 months ago. She's very happy with the phone.
I only went with the G4 Plus because of the extra RAM, plenty storage space, external SD card reader and larger screen compared to the G5 Plus (*for the price I paid*). Most importantly, I bought the G4 Plus because it has ElementalX kernel, official Lineage OS support and TWRP as well. The combination of these three kept my Nexus 5 going for 3+ years before it gave up on me a few months ago.
My N5 still works but it randomly shuts down and reboots when using demanding tasks like taking photos or when it heats up. As long as I can keep it frozen (out of the freezer - literally) it works just fine though.
I've been using a crappy $60 Amazon Prime Exclusive phone, the Blu R1 HD on stock Marshmallow + Magisk / Xposed / Gravity Box / N-ify. Performance is fine considering what I paid for it. Thanks to the infamous fire.apk that plagued the R1 HD for months, I managed to get a full refund for that phone today. So I've got a free phone with malware basically.
I really wanted a 5.5" to 6" phone with good dev support on the cheap but as you know, both the G5 Plus / G5S Plus have a smaller 5.2" and very little dev support (compared to the G4 Plus) and they cost quite a bit more.
So I went with lower price, better dev support and slightly bigger screen on the G4 Plus.
What do you guys think?
I asked Motorola support about why the Moto g5 isn't getting any updates in the UK and they said this! So hopefully good news is on the way!

There is currently no Lenovo partner in the UK (according to posts on the G5 Lenovo forum), until there is, no Motorola phone on Retgb will get any updates apparently.
I'd guess there was a partner in 2017 as my G4 got the March 2017 security patch on Retgb. That was before the G5 was released though.

Well maybe not because the g4 didn't get an update for 9 months. 9 months was when the Moto g5 was released. So the g4 wasn't getting update in the UK like us but now the Moto g4 in the UK got an update so hopefully that means the UK version is back in action for updates!
I must admit. I have had my UK Moto G5 retgb since the first week it was realised. Thats nearly coming up to a year soon and not ONE update!. I have had many phones over the years LG, Samsung etc... And thought that with it being classed as "stock android" would mean I would get updates quicker. Yet, this is the first phone I have EVER purchased that has never had one single update. Even my old, old LG Optimus 2x got more updates and I thought nothing could be worse than LG with updates?!. I appear to be wrong and what is more frustrating is that my partner who got a Honor 6A just had a 513mb update for security patch December 2017. Yet mine is stuck on January 2017!!!!.
I don't mind Oero etc... What I do mind about was buying a cheap phone that I bought with me being lead to believe that as it's near to stock android it would gets updates not far behind Pixel phones as there is no bloatware. With the promise of updates being pushed to the handset within 2 years, so felt safe in the knowledge of it being updated without needing to root etc... It seems to me that Lenovo/Moto brand are more interested in turning out a new variant 1 a month. Tbh, I believe they will give 1 update to Oero and that's it!. Am just disappointed more than anything from Lenovo/Moto!!!!.

For the price of the v35 their are many choices. I personally went to the Essential PH1, for under $250 it's a nice device and gets updated monthly it's on the Q beta now as well. Theirs also a bunch of Moto phones on sale. The G7 seems like a solid device for the price. The new pixel 3a is also a solid device.
