I just bought a used Verizon note 3 at a great price, and I want to use it on Tracfone's att network. And I have a few questions.
But first, please know that I have tried to read up about this but am still confused so please go easy on me. Also, why did I get a Verizon phone to use on an att mvno? Att note 3's have locked bootloader. T-mobile note 3's are sim locked. Verizon note 3's are factory unlocked and the bootloader is unlockable. Plus, as I said, I got a great deal.
So, I understand that, once the bootloader is unlocked, I can run Roms for the international LTE model (n9005), the att model (n900a) and the t-mobile model (n900t). I understand that I would need to use the hlte recovery and not the hltevzw recovery to install those ROMs. My question is if I do that, will I have any problems using the phone on Tracfone with SMS, MMS, calling, etc.? Will I get LTE?
What are the steps to getting this to work? Do I need to install a Verizon model kernel? Or can I freely install kernels for other models? What about modems? Do I need to flash hlte modems or Verizon modems? I do not need Verizon service.
Any help would be much appreciated. And please let me know if any of my understanding above is mistaken. Thanks.
after bl unlock.
hlte not hltevzw twrp, rom of choice(not all i tried worked), kernel made for hltevzw, boot and set up, edit apns to you network specs, may have to change preffered network type in settings and/or radio settings. Had wonderful luck with resurrection remix and aryamod roms battery and stability wise. awesome pool of devs still cranking out top notch stuff for note 3. good luck.
might want to update modem from latest stock firmware or odin zip before bothering the rom process.
some roms specify twrp for hlte or hltevzw and diff versions. keep that in mind.

Thank you! By updating modem, I assume you mean Verizon modems. So I shouldn't try att modems, right? I also read a thread about enabling band 4 LTE for t-mobile. It looked like I needed to go into service mode to do that. Will I need to do that as well? Or is that not applicable if I'm on an international ROM? Also, what would happen if I tried international Qualcomm model kernels?
not sure about opening up lte bands for tmobile. i use att prepaid on my 900v until screen pooped out on me few days ago. yes to verizon modems. the rom won't matter in regards to LTE you only get what bands your phone is capable of getting based on what network you're using and the bands that they use. i never had to tweak bands for att service. i got good enough signal. trying kernels not meant for you particular model will result in you getting real familiar using odin to flash full factory firmware packages. Dont do it. lol.

Is there any reason to prefer a rom designed for 900v if I am not going to use verizon service? Will it be more stable or have less bugs? Could you also point me to some 900v kernels? I have been looking but I'm struggling a little bit. Thanks.
ROMs for the Verizon model will work better for Verizon service. If you're looking at AOSP ROMs you can Google search xenial kermel, or lss kernel, or idle kernel. idle and lss have touchwiz kernels as well. you can also look at phantom kernel for touchwiz.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/orig-development
here is a good starting place for kernels. check each one for 900v support. check vzw note 3 forum too. it took me a bit to get use to vzw applicable stuff not being in vzw forum. but like i said the n3 is still very active in development and options are numerous. read, read, read. try, test, try, test. find what works best for you and your device.

Thanks again. I was surprised that there isn't a single kernel thread in the Verizon dev forums. I guess all the Dev's moved on while the bootloader was still locked. So, what you're saying is that I need to check international Qualcomm kernel threads for Verizon compatibility, right? That's really helpful.
The state of the Verizon note 3 forum is really sad. I've had many devices that are older and lower end and have always found active and helpful development threads in these forums. Here, the FAQ's and guides are outdated, and the development section is like a ghost town. I guess that's what happens when a carrier decides to lock the bootloader.

Correct. vzw forum is a bit lonely but thankfully other roms work. and work well. ill be replacing the screen on my n3 whenbi have extra cash. I honestly like it more than the sprint note 4 im using. my wife has a sprint note 5. love the innards phone is a beast, but minimal development other than moar rom and i dont feel comfortable carrying that thing around. ill break it way too quick.

Did you have the problem of the incoming caller numbers being prefixed with a "+" so that the phone mistakes the first few digits as an international area code? I have that problem and read that it happens on Verizon phones on the att network. I also read that the prefixer app can help fix that but it hasn't worked for me. Do you have any suggestions?

I have not run into that problem at all on custom roms. Is it occuring on stock rom ? i left touchwiz on my note 3 only long enough to charge battery to full for flashing and bl unlock, twrp, and root.. I didnt run into on aryamod either as its modded touchwiz. I can not provide much on this issue as you have already done more reading about it then me. Sorry

I'm sorry to keep bugging you but I'm having some serious problems, and it seems you are the only one running a verizon note 3 on att. I had that problem with the incoming call having the "+" before the number, until I flashed the international n9005 version of darklord reborn. Now the incoming caller number works fine but mms is not working. Do you have mms working on att? SMS works fine, but mms fails to download. I am, of course, not on att, but an att mvno: Tracfone. MMS is working fine when I put the sim in another phone. I've checked the APN and data works fine but MMS doesn't. Any help? The people in the thread say that MMS is working just fine, but I assume they are running it on an n9005 and not n900v like we are, which is probably the issue.

I'm sorry if that came off rude. I am just a little frustrated. But I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying that the verizon specific forums do not have a whole lot of activity. As PlanetZ said, there is still a lot that's being developed for the verizon model, but we need to search and read all over the place. I am not knocking the devs or anything. Just commenting on the state of the forum.

I would try adding MMS to the APN type.. you can try changing the MMS port from 80 to 8080.. ive had to do that for att before and tracphone apn seem to mirror att apns for most part. or if you cant get it working on darklord rom try this aryamod rom..

I had zero issues with it and as far a touchwiz rom goes its smooth. or try any rom the NX team puts out. Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions. The aryamod rom causes the same incoming call number "+" problem. And changing mms port to 8080 didn't work. I am now trying phronesis rom with 900t rom and tmb csc. I hope this does the trick.

thats weird. did you have all roaming options turned on ? domestic and global ?
Edit: so your problem intrigued me and I did some reading I still am seems to be an issue across the board for multiple users of multiple devices of multiple ROMs with no clear fix as simple as flashing something or wiping device and reinstall... I'm going to keep researching it and see if I can't help you find a solution for the meantime you may try this app to remove the plus sign in front of incoming and outgoing calls report back and let me know if it helped...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tftbelow.prefixer
Open Prefixer
Hit the check mark to turn Prefixer "on" - to make it active
Add a rule - choose "Manual Add"
Choose for "Outgoing Calls"
Rule Enabled: Check
Title: "Take Out the plus sign"
When the number matches: .* (that means every call)
During Days: Mon-Sun
From Time: 00:00
To Time: 23:59 (yours may be a bit different; I have my phone set for 24 hour time)
Actions: Remove Characters: \+
That's all. Make sure that the rule is enabled, and that Prefixer is enabled.
or try
Open Prefixer
At the top right click on "Incoming Calls" tab.
Click "Add Rule" icon, (the circular icon with PLUS inside it on Bottom Left Corner)
In the dialog box that pops up, click on "Manual" Button
Rule Enabled:*ON
Title:*Fix Incoming plus (+) prefix
When the number matches: "\+.*" (without the double quotes) (means every call that comes in with + prefix)
Actions: Remove Characters: "\+" (without the double quotes) (remove the + prefix)
Add Number to call log:*Prefixed number*(save the manipulated number in the call log)
I have not used that prefixer app at all and those setup instructions are copy and paste from other forums of users having same issues.

Im pretty sure its the N9005.
Take from GSM Arena:
msung Galaxy Note 3 N9000 with 3G connectivity
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9002 with dual SIM card support
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 with 3G & LTE connectivity.
It seems like the N9005 is the only variant with LTE.
Processor matches up as well.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (N9005)/ Exynos 5 Octa 5420 (N9000)
Yeah the processor matches up, but would flashing a N9005 ROM on a N900W8 cause any problems? Would I need to flash a different modem?

Hi,
I flashed a SM-N9005 pre-rooted rom on my Mexican Telcel SM-N900W8 and everything was working fine, except WIFI, it was stuck on turning on so I had to go back to stock (the problem here is that stock rom is hard locked to telcel). So maybe flashing N900W8 modem or kernel after N9005 rom will make everything work fine no?
Excuse my bad english.

A modem, (sometimes referred to as a radio or baseband), is a driver that controls the sending and receiving of your mobile Network signals as well as switching between GPRS, 3G and HSDPA. It does not control Wi-Fi or the switchover between mobile signal and Wi-Fi. That is the job of the kernel. To locate your current modem details, go to... Settings > About phone > Baseband version.

The people could be right in some sense. As some say that there is a lock between region on first activation.
Also, in the N7100 days, to port it over to the N7105, there would be files needed to be deleted/added from the N7105 file/N7100 file.

I also found out this time, Wind Mobile goes with N900W8, not with Tmo this time.
I really think starting a new section for N900W8 is necessary. But i guess we need to wait and see if dev rom get working even is N9005. If N900A, N900T both rom does not work in N900W8, at that point, the xda team will add the new section.

I also own a 9th we from claro pr and I'm eager to flash a stock rooted rom with no bloat ware but don't know where to start. My is from Claro PR.
I am trying to install a 4.4.2 rom. It (phoenix) is on, but the baseband of my I9505 is still stuck at Mk2.
I followed steps to flash a new modem, but it reports failed every time.
I downloaded a stock 4.4.2 rom. It failed to install in odin. I was able to get back in recovery to use my nandroid, but I would really like to get this critter working with a 4.4.2 rom.
Is there a way to just update the bootloader?
Is there any drawback to being on the 4.4.2 BL instead of the 4.3 one I am on now?
Should I have a custom kernel that relaxes permissions or something?
Thanks tons.

That file you are trying to flash is only for the old bootloader. I think you have the new bootlader so that file is not for you. If you want to update your modem, then pick a newer modem.

I thought the NC9 designation meant it was the right modem. Is there another version of that file that is for the new bootloader? I also believe I am on the new boot loader. I got the lovely knox 0x1 warranty result to go with it...
I will take a gander at the modem section again to see if I can find the ones that work with the new bootloader.

Thanks for the reply, I will give that thread a look. My problem is that when I move to a 4.4.2 rom I am not able to send text messages. I noticed after a few days of fighting with it that the rom I had was NB9 and the baseband of my phone was MK2.
I was under the belief that if I got my baseband to be NB9 I should have everything back in order.

I don't think its a problem with the modem. I had a similair problem once and that was caused by an incorrect "smsc number". That number is needed for sending sms. You can receive right?
I don't know how you can change it with the default sms app, but with an app like Go SMS Pro you can enter it manually.
Just google for: smsc number [insert provider here] see if that works.

That would be awesome if that is all it is. I am not finding a page plus SMSC, but I have 4 other devices on page plus, so I am just trying to track down the number from there. THANKS!

I could not get into my S3's SMSC settings, but my two older phones appeared to be blank. Neither would give me anything when I hit refresh either.
I decided that since PagePlus uses Verizon that their SMSC was probably the one I needed, but that did not solve it either.
At the moment I am restoring my 4.3 stock rom. It works, so I will see if I can check the SMSC in there. Does it make any sense that I can restore a rom and have it work, yet when I put a new rom on it does not? I guess I did find several post detailing similar results back when IC was new. Maybe I am wrong about the page plus SMSC and that is my issue.
Thanks for the time and effort!
Mike
It could be a problem of the specific rom. Did you try other roms?
Does the stock rom flashing of 4.4.2 work now? If not, make sure you use the backport usb, not the front ones.

So I never had success. I ended up restoring my stock 4.3 us cellular backup and everything works fine.
It is driving me batty that I cannot install a bloat free rom and have texting working... I think I am going to have to devote some energy into learning how to debloat this rom. I have Titanium Pro, so I think it is just a matter of taking some time.
Thanks tons for your help.

I have tried 2 or 3 different roms. Phoenix lately and Golden eye before that.
I downloaded a stock 4.4.2, but it stuck on the Samsung screen. Scared me that I had her locked up tight... I had an issue yesterday with it not coming back from a nandroid too... I had a copy on my external card though and recovered from there as well.
I am not sure if I had a USCC stock 4.4.2 when I was doing that odin attempt. I asked on a teamuscellar page if there is a stock 4.4.2 for the s4 yet, but had not seen a reply yet.
Thanks for the tip on the back port. I will give that a go when I try again. My previous message said I was bailing.. but I am really not good at giving up. =) Thanks again!

Do you have this model?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272533
Because I see that U.S. Cellular has the Mk2 modem you talk about. Maybe you have the Galaxy S 4 (SCH-R970)? Could that be possible. Maybe that is why everything fails and why you can't text.

Yes, that is it. I am not sure how I started thinking I had the I9505 instead of the R970. I must have seen a post somewhere that linked them. I wonder how similar the hardware is. The roms I tried were sweet, just no texting.
Thanks so much for helping me solve this!

I think this [ link ]is the stock image for the 970 that I tried in Odin and had it stay on the Samsung screen. I will download again, check the md5, and give it another go from a back port usb.
I did notice that the post you led me to was in the S4 i9500, I9505, etc forum. Is it possible my R970 is also a i9505?
Thanks,
Mike
I don't think you can use the i9505 roms.
After you flash your rom, try to do a wipe data from the stock recovery. I think it will boot then.

This isn't my fix. Thanks to @gaganmohal for the original post. Anyway turns out the recent N910W8 data fix for international ROMs also works on our N910T. Which means we now have access to a bunch of new ROMs to flash in the international note 4 forums including some note 5 ports. I don't need WiFi calling at the moment so this is exciting news for me!
Confirmed working for me on N910T
Here is flashable .zip file for No SIGNAL/DATA issue when running International N910F/G LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 roms on N910W8/N910T devices. Download link below.
UPDATE YOUR DEVICE TO 5.1.1 OFFICIAL FIRMWARE BEFORE YOU BEGIN.
Instructions for NOTE 4 international ROM's
1) Clean Flash any N910F/G LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 TOUCHWIZ rom via custom recovery, dont reboot yet
2) Flash any custom kernel for your device (For some reason you wont get signal if using emotion kernal, use AEL multivarient for 5.1.1) Download here
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347835280
Reboot Now. Reboot takes 10-15 mins. Be patient.
Setup your device and once done, reboot back to recovery and
3) Flash INTL. Data Fix, reboot
As always make a NANDROID BACKUP before doing anything.
Signal/Data Fix Download--

For international NOTE 5 Ports
(ONLY FOR NOTE5 PORT ROMS)
1) Clean Flash Note5 port rom, dont reboot yet
2) Flash AEL Multivarient kernel, download from here
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347835280
REBOOT NOW, Setup your device, once done reboot back to recovery and
3) Flash this new Data fix, (No need to flash any other old call or data fixes or edit build.prop)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/l5lkwqb88mvv7a3/NOTE5 port DATA FIX N910W8_T.zip?dl=0
I am running Dr. Ketan L11 Note 5 port with no issues. A few things some of you might run into.
1. Data fix for Note 5 ports changes DPI to 640. It will cause S-Note to force close. Need to change DPI back to 560 to fix S-Note. There is a built in DPI changer in L11 in app tray. I haven't tried changing just the S-Note DPI alone so not sure if that can work as well.
2. Data fix for Note 5 ports made me lose in call volume on Dr Ketan L11. A simple build.prop edit will fix it. Change the following to.
ro.product.model=SM-920T
ro.product.name=trltetmo
ro.product.device=trltetmo
ro.build.product=trltetmo
3. Make sure you edit your APN. For t-mobile use:
fast.t-mobile.com
Network mode you want to do 4G/3G/2G
Preferred Network mode LTE/WCDMA/GSM

Hi, for me on kyubi note 5 port, using the recommended AEL and with emotion r22 kernel will not work.
If flash rom and kernel, reboot, setup and then flash the new data fix, rom boots but with no data or mobile networks in settings.
If flash all together, then will get system errors all the time.
Can you please mention what option or procedure you use and your Note 4 model/baseband?
Update: Got it to work!
Works with the 5.1.1 AEL kernel not with emotion r22.
Flash ROM + kernel, and boot.
Let it settle for at least 5 minutes.
Setup and back to recovery to flash data fix. After booting again, no data.
Not sure which one of the following made it work:
First created a new APN.
On mobile networks, on the 2 network modes, changed to GSM/WCDMA auto and back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
Data shows up and drops.
Then on the dialer *#2263#.
On the 2 network modes changed to GSM/WCDMA preferred and back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
Reboot and so far after 4 reboots, data sticks and it is LTE fast.
My Note 4 model is N910T and with COG2 baseband.
Damn.. i cant hear anything when i receive calls .. anyone found any solution for this?

I did notice someone around the forums saying they were having issues with in-call volume. Are you hearing people on outgoing calls?
Also has anyone else noticed the pull down shade being altered after flashing data fix? You mentioned you are on kyubi. For me the pull down shade is different after data fix. The s-finder and connect portion doesn't line up with the top portion (quick toggles).
Maybe the data fix alters something in system ui?

On kyubi debloated, the same with the pull down shade after data fix.
Worked as advertised. However there are a few small little hickups. I used the new echoerom and the kyubi both resulting in a change of ui after flashing the fix. The lockscreen went back to the old note 4 style and had its text in the wrong place along with the pull down shade as stated by other users being slightly out of wack. Has anyone else noticed the lockscreen difference? Other then that Super awesome! Thanks for the find!

Yea now that you mention it the lock screen did seem out of place for me too.
Maybe @gaganmohal can shed some light on this? I'm just reposting info but maybe he is the source of the data fix file or knows someone who is.
I'm not well versed enough in these matters but hopefully someone can look into the data fix zip file and see what's being altered in the ui.

Try this
(ONLY FOR NOTE 5 PORT ROMS)
Replace the build.prop to the original one from the kyubi rom and edit these lines

Hi all,
I have a freedompop ( they use sprints network) Note 3 N900P. Since the phone uses the sprints network indirectly, I am not sure which roms I will be able to install. Also the phone comes with lollipop; can i use the cf-root app? It says that it only supports the 4.4 bootloader, but the phone is running 5.0.(not sure if the bootloader was updated).
I would like your advice.
Thanks in advance
The Faqs show that phone as a Sprint model so i would expect the Sprint forum to have the answers .

No one replied; I can confirm that it already has twrp installed. The only thing I am curious about is if the roms in the general note 3 threads will be compatible.
USUALLY any non-exynos rom will work. I'm on ringplus. I just add my APN and done. Tried using Music of life LP rom, though that one is tricky to add apn because it's greyed out with the SPR csc. Use the XAS csc to get apn to work. I'm now using darkera13's s7 edge port which gave me no problems editing my APN. I'm assuming the s7 edge port in this forum might have a similar experience.
Oh and the sprint section was no help for me. I had to figure it out on my own.

oh right you're not in the US. If the bands aren't supported then you won't get the data. I don't believe a cdma phone was the right choice to use outside the US. Have better odds using a gsm phone.
Canadian "W" XAC firmware_No Carrier Bloat_No carrier splash screen or sound
Alright so I was reading the SD research and development thread over in the regular s8 forum and came across some good stuff.
You can flash the Canadian W firmware and it's pretty much just like flashing the U firmware on the S7 and s7edge. No carrier bloat, no carrier boot screen or sound, smoother as butter and fast as heck!
I flashed the W firmware XAC AP, BL, CP and CSC file. There is no user data file available with they're firmware. Everything runs just amazing, not sure if you can get wifi calling working or not. There is no VoLTE that I've seen. If you flash your carriers CSC maybe all of this stuff might work with a few adjustments. Wifi tethering works great and I'm on the ATT unlimited data plan.
The firmware can be downloaded on sammobile or updato.com. Will post a links here later when I get to a computer.
YOU MUST USE PRINCE ODIN TO FLASH THIS OR ELSE YOU WILL GET MISMATCH FIRMWARE ERROR.
Enjoy!!!
This firmware is for GSM carriers only. CDMA carriers are having troubles getting mms and some other stuff working correctly, Verizon and Sprint just a heads up.

It will work on TMO, I don't see why it wouldn't, we all have the same GSM U phones, even the cdma are the same minus some bands that aren't activated due to different firmware. I mean even if it didn't work as long as you use the HOME.CSC while trying it you won't lose any of your data.

It flashed well and works on S8+, but has no voLTE and WI-FI Calling which I can't do without. Tried to flash back to T-Mobile but something is very wrong it keeps some stuff from 955W firmware, still no voLTE and WIFI Calling. Will try to flash CSC_OYN instead of HOME_CSC_OYN and see how it goes.
Im going to stand by for your insight and go from there. You posted as I was about to flash

Hmm, yeah I'll wait til you find a way back on stock T-Mobile firmware. Does this firmware have the red tint fix?
As for the volte, is the setting just missing or is it not working completely?

Damn!! I'm stuck, it seems I can't go back to T-Mobile completely. In download it shows TMB for T-Mobile, in settings then about everything is ok it shows T-Mobile firmware. But the dialer, notification bar (LTE) displays as if i'm running G955W firmware. While starting or shutting down, doesn't show a white and a black T-Mobile display, and no start up tone. No voLTE setting, no WI-FI Calling, generally i can't get away from G955W.

When flashing T-Mobile firmware, are you using the regular csc file or homecsc? I believe you also need to format on flash using the option in Odin (don't hold me to that though, my memory may be a bit off.) I used to flash a ton of firmwares in my international S7 edge.

Regular CSC failed too, it takes me to as if the Phone is out of the box but doesn't change anything. Will check out that format option in Odin. I used to play with my S7 Edge a lot too, I've never seen this. I believe S8/8+ has some changes made.
Not me alone, same problem here:

I've totally failed to go back to T-Mobile fully, but the good news is I managed to get voLTE and WI-FI Calling to work. What I did is I ignored HOME_CSC_OYN and CSC_OYN, instead flashed USERDATA_TMB in Odin CSC. All T-Mobile bloatware is gone, and Smart Switch reads the phone as XAA....... not TMB, not XAC.... Weird isn't it? Let me see how it goes, feels smoother though.

Quick question...
You don't have TMO bloat... but your ROM looks like:
This (TMO):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or... something like this:
...and the HotSpot area:
How about spam protection? (under Advanced Features) (FD Variant)
I just want to know if your TMO U variant has all the INT options enabled or not. (I am not sure if Canadian XAC is similar to International Exynos ROM) Also... you mentioned VOLTE & WIFI Calling are fully operational... can you please test Video Calling? Is Video Calling also working?
Most likely the TMO data file turned off all the features... But, maybe... Not... If all 3 main TMO features are working and the ROM is similar to International Exynos Variant... Then this is definitely great news. (until root)
Thank you!

Only Video calling is missing in dialer and it was the same with S7 Edge U Firmware, the rest is as your attached 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures and working. My access point name shows PLDT wholesale but works. So far I'm good, let me see how the day goes.

That's right, the ones I tried at first were giving a fail mismatch until i found 3.12.7 in the link below. Remember I flashed USERDATA_TMB in Odin CSC to get voLTE and WI-FI Calling.
