Verizon Tracking your phone? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

So i just called Verizon to get my wifes phone warrantied out because its not charging and the lady on the phone said she had a high risk app installed called LED Flashlight. What service or app on the phone can tell them what you are installing> Both of our phones have package disabler pro installed and have a ton of apps disabled. I thought it would be DT Ignite but thats disabled. Any ideas??
Thanks!!

You can flash another costume ROM with minimal preinstalled app package
There's a lot of other safe variants

Mobile recovery question

I got a text from VZW today just before 11am saying " VZW FREE MSG: Your Mobile Recovery app will end on 3/31/15. The Verizon Support & Protection app is available on certain devices at no cost @ getmyvsp.com"
Is VZW discontinuing the app/service? I did Google it but got nothing. I didn't cancel my equipment protection or anything.
Looks like it's an old Verizon app that they're either dropping support for or ending your subscription. I don't think equipment protection has anything to do with it.
I tried to go to the site, but my browser said that it was likely hackers attempting to ruin my life. Do you know if the site is actually legit?

I just went to the site and it opens a play store link to the Verizon Support & Protection app, which I can verify is legit. You don't have to download it, by the way, but if you want you can.
It's a legit site and it's a legit app. Verizon has used Asurion since the days of Blackberry.
The mobile recovery app is old though so maybe it is just being discontinued. I had it on my Droid X and my Razr Maxx.
I have the support and protection app frozen on my phone and never looked at it to see what it was about really. I just figured it was just the usual bloatware.
I think Mobile Recovery was only available to customers who have the total equipment protection.

Tap and pay on VZW Note 3 - 5.0 and unfortunately no root

Does anyone know if tap and pay will work with a non-rooted Note 3 after the new android pay app comes out. My tap n pay doesn't work with the old Google Wallet either. Thx

The required HCE security chipset is not built into the Note 3 for android pay. So unless they change the software with extreme security precautions, it will not work.

I will confirm this on the weekend. I just spoke to Verizon tech to order new sim card for two new phones (upgrading other users, not note 3s). I asked about that and they stated the nfc sim card is incompatible only on the note 3 but they are freely sending out new updated ones to anyone who ask for it. I did and they said two day shipping on my new nfc/sim card combo that should work with Google wallet/android pay. I will update you with results this weekend. After some research, this is my conclusion after reading between the lines of the tech girl who said she has sent out many new sim/nfc cards for note 3 users since isis/soft card shutdown. My conclusion is the note3 cam with a locked sim/nfc to work only with isis. Since it shutdown, Verizon is giving out the HCE (unsecured) sim/nfc cards (free of charge, just ask them for it).

Anyone missing Samsung pay on their VZW S7?

i got mine today and Samsung pay is not installed. i went to the google play store and it said samsung pay was not compatible with my phone? everything is stock...no root or other hacks.
Thanks.
Try Galaxy Apps
Missing
I agree I'm missing it too On my samsung galaxy s7 edge. I went to galaxy apps and it looked like it downloaded but I can't find it anywhere. I must be missing something or its hidden in a folder. I'll keep looking!
Trying to remember how I activated it on my wife's S6. I think you have to go into settings > tap & pay.
I just read that Verizon forced Samsung to remove Samsung Pay from VZW S7 and Edge. You can also side load it from APKmirror.com also.

Won't download I am trying to download/install this on my s7 edge and it has been at 43% downloaded for the past 3 hours?????

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Galaxy S7 is scheduled to be released on March 11th, and Samsung Pay service for S7 will be enabled once it is officially released.

One post said that Verizon has also removed any mention of Samsung Pay from their S7 manual.
Wow you are completely correct! Verizon just pulled that lowball move and demanded that Samsung remove it. I'm sideloading it as we speak.
Has anyone had any trouble getting past the finger print registration on samsung pay?

Had this issue on the s6, remove your fingerprints and clear cache in the fingerprint app then set it up with a pin. Once you finish the install turn on fingerprints

I had to download the apk, then install. Once I installed I was able to register my card fine.

Seems you may be correct. (Update)
"We've spoken with Samsung, and they have clarified that while Samsung Pay currently cannot be installed via the Play Store or Galaxy Apps on the Verizon model, it will be available to Verizon Galaxy S7s and S7 edges via those channels starting on March 11th, the official launch date for the phones. Samsung Pay is not pre-loaded on Verizon models, unlike some other US carriers, and Verizon does not advertise the app - and even went so far as to strip it from the user manuals of its versions of the S7 and S7 edge - but sideloading will not be necessary by the time we reach the retail launch date for the devices."

Samsung pay is live on the play store.
It works on mine!
Spoke with a Samsung rep yesterday about this. I was looking into the phone and he said that the VZW version just won't have it. He said that only Android pay would work.

Yep haha. I just happened to be a in Best Buy store because my friend works there and I was able to hold the phone without the security tether. Their resident "Samsung Expert" was the one who told me that. Only for me to see an article the next day about how VZW was allowing it on phones.
I was able to install Samsung Pay from the Play Store, but adding a card won't work on my Verizon S7.
I called Samsung Pay support and ran through settings, clear cache, uninstall, restart device, reinstall Pay and still won't connect to server to add any cards.
They have sent it up the chain at Samsung Support and said I should hear back within 48 hours.

Samsung Reactivation lock?

Can't seem to find it anywhere on my VZW S7 Edge. Takes all of ten seconds to locate it on my VZW S6 Edge, but the menu item is just plain missing on my S7.
Looking at the various carrier's user-manuals, I can find it on the AT&T S7 manual but the Verizon manual makes absolutely no reference to it.
Anyone else notice this?
I'm going to guess it is yet another item that VZW decided was something I just don't need, kind of like the built-in white pages integration. It's so nice that they remove these evil and potentially damaging features so so I don't get into trouble using them.
I think I've figured this one out. Verizon offers their own version of remote-wipe for $11/month, so naturally they removed the free Find My Mobile functionality that Samsung had built into the phone. With that gone, so goes the Samsung reactivation lock as well.
Thanks, Obama.
Oh.. wow, what a crap. I was also looking for that feature in case my phone gets stolen. I thought all phones now come with these reactivation lock built in, just like an iPhone to discourage theft...

What does Obama have to do with this on your phone? His current job is President of the United States, not of Verizon.

Didn't he or somebody was supposed to make this function a mandatory thing to lower theft? I don't know about politics so don't quote me on that.
Just being a little snarky there, guys. Blaming Obama for this was intended to be so ridiculous that no one could possibly assume it was sincere.
I was wrong.
Anyway...
I stopped by the Verizon store to ask them to please turn on the Samsung Reactivation Lock on my S7 Edge. They, of course, had absolutely no idea what that was or even what I was talking about.
So, as I stood there watching them do web-searches to find out what I was asking for, I noticed that one of them had an S6 Edge. I guided them to the function in question on that phone, and told them I wanted that activated on my phone.
Once they saw what I meant, they immediately offered to sell me back that missing functionality for the aforementioned $11/month in the form of their Security and Protection service.
When I directed their attention to Samsung.com, and the various user-guides published for each of the major carriers, and pointed out in the appropriate document that AT&T had left that feature on the phone, they actually told me "No, AT&T just added that additional feature. We didn't remove anything."
At that point I realized that I was arguing with idiots and bid them a good day and left the store.

If your phone is lost or stolen just call Verizon and have them deactivate it. My wife lost her iPhone, she called Verizon and they deactivated it. I can't see Verizon not locking the phone down if requested for loss or theft.

That's different then a reactivation lock. Verizon blacklisting the device makes it unusable in the US, but usable oversea. The reactivation lock makes the phone completely useless, as in you can't even get to the OS.

I don't know how Device Manager replaces the functionality of Reactivation Lock.
Samsung now only uses google's FRP protection (which is a joke to bypass)same goes for samsung..anyways before some phones supported the two of them but with the s7 thats not the case anymore. The moment you add a google account to your phone you can check in the download screen it will say FRP lock : ON which means when you do a factory reset it will ask you for your google credentials.

OK I see now. I didn't realize it's for U.S. only. I'll have to keep that in mind next time we're abroad.

Verizon Blocking Samsung Cloud

I switched to Verizon from Sprint and may be regretting that decision as Verizon is blocking the Samsung 15GB of cloud access I was using on Sprint. Seems that Verizon is being the greedy company as they are forcing you to buy anything over 5GB of cloud storage. I find the Samsung cloud backs up more when it comes to phone settings then the Verizon one does. I understand all carriers put their own software on the phone but I never had a vendor block and app or feature such as that. Debating on just switching back to Sprint.
have you tried side loading?
I don't have the app installer to even try that, it is also not in the Play Store, it was something Samsung installed. If I used Quick Shortcut maker I can see it in "activities" but it won't launch properly. I think Verizon did something to prevent it from loading.

They did this on the Note 7, I think eventually a way was found. Try searching the verizon note 7 forums.
If Samsung provides free functionality on the phone that duplicates something that Verizon offers for a monthly fee - like cloud storage, for example - that Samsung free feature will be removed by Verizon.
Last year, they removed Samsung's "FindMyMobile" feature from the S7. When I inquired about why it was removed, they steered me toward their VZ Protection service - that has similar locate and wipe capabilities - for only $11.99/month.
Ever wonder how they got to be worth $200 billion?

When is Samsung going to get a backbone and stand up to this bull****? Apple tells Verizon to F-Off, so should Samsung.

What advantage does the Samsung FindMyMobile have over the base Google "Android Device Manager" (which does work with my Verizon S8+)?

I looked into this and I found out that FindMyMobile can turn location services on, which is useful for me as I usually leave location off unless I need it. I believe my verizon s5 had included, so somewhere along the line verizon forced it to be removed.
Anyone doing some more research into getting samsung cloud working? especially now that verizon decided it's cloud would go pay onlyand stop the free service (except for contacts)?? I found the history on the note 7, but the number of running services/processes was 3 or 4 vs just 1 on the s8 when viewing it with quickshortcutmaker...

I found a way to do it. About to post a guide.
Confirmed they are blocking it. You must use VPN to bypass. :good: Bye Net Neutrality. Welcome great firewall of Trump*cough* China.
