Samsung Reactivation lock? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Can't seem to find it anywhere on my VZW S7 Edge. Takes all of ten seconds to locate it on my VZW S6 Edge, but the menu item is just plain missing on my S7.
Looking at the various carrier's user-manuals, I can find it on the AT&T S7 manual but the Verizon manual makes absolutely no reference to it.
Anyone else notice this?
I'm going to guess it is yet another item that VZW decided was something I just don't need, kind of like the built-in white pages integration. It's so nice that they remove these evil and potentially damaging features so so I don't get into trouble using them.

I think I've figured this one out. Verizon offers their own version of remote-wipe for $11/month, so naturally they removed the free Find My Mobile functionality that Samsung had built into the phone. With that gone, so goes the Samsung reactivation lock as well.
Thanks, Obama.

Oh.. wow, what a crap. I was also looking for that feature in case my phone gets stolen. I thought all phones now come with these reactivation lock built in, just like an iPhone to discourage theft...

What does Obama have to do with this on your phone? His current job is President of the United States, not of Verizon.

I use to have a Nexus and have android device manager. So I suggest that.

Didn't he or somebody was supposed to make this function a mandatory thing to lower theft? I don't know about politics so don't quote me on that.

Just being a little snarky there, guys. Blaming Obama for this was intended to be so ridiculous that no one could possibly assume it was sincere.
I was wrong.
Anyway...
I stopped by the Verizon store to ask them to please turn on the Samsung Reactivation Lock on my S7 Edge. They, of course, had absolutely no idea what that was or even what I was talking about.
So, as I stood there watching them do web-searches to find out what I was asking for, I noticed that one of them had an S6 Edge. I guided them to the function in question on that phone, and told them I wanted that activated on my phone.
Once they saw what I meant, they immediately offered to sell me back that missing functionality for the aforementioned $11/month in the form of their Security and Protection service.
When I directed their attention to Samsung.com, and the various user-guides published for each of the major carriers, and pointed out in the appropriate document that AT&T had left that feature on the phone, they actually told me "No, AT&T just added that additional feature. We didn't remove anything."
At that point I realized that I was arguing with idiots and bid them a good day and left the store.

If your phone is lost or stolen just call Verizon and have them deactivate it. My wife lost her iPhone, she called Verizon and they deactivated it. I can't see Verizon not locking the phone down if requested for loss or theft.

That's different then a reactivation lock. Verizon blacklisting the device makes it unusable in the US, but usable oversea. The reactivation lock makes the phone completely useless, as in you can't even get to the OS.

I don't know how Device Manager replaces the functionality of Reactivation Lock.

Samsung now only uses google's FRP protection (which is a joke to bypass)same goes for samsung..anyways before some phones supported the two of them but with the s7 thats not the case anymore. The moment you add a google account to your phone you can check in the download screen it will say FRP lock : ON which means when you do a factory reset it will ask you for your google credentials.

Okay here's a ? How can I prevent scammers from calling me without using a app? I keep getting a scam call saying that big red has awarded me soso amount off my bill and they keep changing the # and when ever I call vzw to report it they act like it's not their problem thanks
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Mhm...definitely strange. I have heard of that scenario as well from some of customers. First off if your getting a call saying that they awarded you some money of your bill thats a lie. Two...if anyone calls you saying that they can save you money on your verizon bill then that could be a local verizon account rep your speaking with. However if that turns out to be the case they will normally attempt to set up an appointment with you to come in to a local store so they can do an waa with you (wireless account analysis) to see what can be done on your account to see if they can help you save a couple bucks a month, see if you have any available upgrades and etc. Three...if they are not directing you to a local store then thats extremely fishy. 4. As far as blocking spammers from calling you without using a app would really depends o what device you currently have. I have a note 3 and it provides exellent call blocking, text blocking and etc features. Which device do you currently have?

How can I add a line with unlimited data?
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Verizon no longer currently offers a unlimited plan to new lines of service. The only way you can have the unlimited data plan currently is by a having grandfathered in or b talking to a friend or family member who has a line that with the unlimited plan that they will be willing to give up to you through the means of assumptions of liabilites meaning if they would be willing to give up the line to you...you then can take over that line of service and put it under your name. However by doing so they will run your credit again to see if your aproved to take over that line. Also added benefit in doing so is that wherever that person left off in their contract would be where you would continue off from. By taken over the line ut does not require you to restart the contract of that new line you just took over and put underneath your name.

Can we please keep the ability to root the device? I feel that a Locked Bootloader, even though not ideal, is okay as long as Verizon keeps the device relatively updated. (Or to put in other words, I don't think that Verizon would ever allow the bootloader to be unlocked).
But without root, there are a lot of features that Samsung have removed (such as the ability to add Widgets to the lock screen when it is locked) and wouldn't be accessible to us even though it is available to most other android devices. Same with backups.
Ive heard talks about this petition to unlock the bootloader for the note 3 but to be honest ive not heard any confirmation or caught any wind of verizon actually doing that. And yeah I see what your saying. And I can add lockscreen widgets to my note 3 without root.

I'm having crackling and poping sounds from my earpiece and the home button is wobbly. I am getting a certified refurbished replacement in the morning. If the replacement has issues what are the chances of getting a brand new device?? I haven't had the best luck with refurbished replacement. And are the certified refurbished replacement really refurbished?? I mean the phone hasn't been out a month yet.
I live in an area with the worst service for Verizon. I never receive calls or texts. My only option is a network extender. Is it possible to get one for free? I spent $400 on this phone and now I'm locked down for 2 years. I don't wanna spend another $300 to use the phone I just bought. -_-

@eurofeik hey bud. And the coverage within your area is that bad? What type of device do you have by the way? Is it a 3g device or a 4g? For the price you said you spent on the phone am guessing you probably have a 4g device if so thats strabge your signal is that bad because normally with our 4g devices the technology increases in building penetration, voice quality and reception. Also what area do you live near? So I can look furthermore in to details for you? And I cant promise you that they will give you one for free but have you also tried calling customer care and seeing what they say?

Note 5 carrier limitations

I told myself I'd never go back to a TouchWiz device, but alas here I am getting ready to make a move to the Note 5. I'm also switching carriers as T-mobile gets terrible service at my new home. While comparing AT&T and Verizon, I noticed that Verizon may not end up supporting Samsung Pay.
So I thought I would take this discussion here (if it belongs in Q&A please move it): What sort of carrier limitations will be placed on the Note 5 by AT&T or Verizon? Any insight to help me choose which version to go with would be a big help.
Along with not supporting Samsung Pay, I've heard that Verizon still is stubborn as hell with locking down their phones. It would be a deal breaker if I'm unable to root.
Anything else I should expect when deciding on the carrier?
Take your pick as far as locked down phones are concerned. I think both AT&T and Verizon are equally bad on locking down devices.

I am 99% sure, Samsung uses Knox security and when your device boots up Knox does a security check on the device, if it detects root, samsung pay will NOT work, period. Ever. You can't reset it, once it detects it you're pretty much F'd. And it's still up in the air if that will affect your hardware warranty or not, though I doubt it will.
This is specific to Knox and samsung pay.

Is freezing issues with Verizon or other carriers too?

My Verizon S7 Edge freezes from time to time and I have to push the on/off or home button to get it to work again.
Kind of irritating and the Verizon store said there will be a software update soon that will take care of it.
Is this a hardware or software issue or carrier issue?
I'm regretting giving up my trouble free Note 4 already.

Lol I feel you, OP. This has gotten sad.
Unfortunately, I don't think it matters anymore who's fault it is (both), since the only people who can do anything about it have moved on to the international version, or other devices completely. I was one of the hopeful, but the petty bickering in here and the lack of updates from Tmo has made me all but give up. The main thread got closed down, and the push pretty much died there. Ice was supposed to have Forbes cover the story and have a lawyer look into possible legal action, neither of which panned out, through no fault of Ice's. It's just the way the cookie crumbled.
For the sake of being on topic, it's both Samsung and Tmo's fault sort of. Samsung locked the phone and Tmo didn't request it be unlocked. Either one of them could unlock it easily, which is why I held out hope in the first place, but the lack of action, or even updates leads me to believe we're SOL. I'm going to file an insurance claim with Upsie and request they send me an international version. I suggest anyone who wants root do the same. Upsie's deductible is only $25, but you have to purchase a new insurance plan once you get your new phone.

T-Mobile has always been on the stance since the Amaze. It's up to the manufacturer to lock it or not. They would never request it to be locked. To date all bootloaders prior to the S7 were unlocked except where manufacturers have locked them. IE HTC. LG did lock a bootloader once and they themselves admitted(front office response) they locked it.
Someone may bring up Sony device. They still haven't answered this question. What does T-Mobile have to gain to lock those devices and not every other device on their network? Have yet to see a valid reason.

Source of this information that they did have a choice, or is this purely your speculation? So far Samsung is silent and hasn't said anything about it officially.
Also they are requesting it now and Samsung has a method already developed(see china). So why the Samsung dilly dally?

I guess you could call it educated speculation. Historically, Tmo has had unlocked/unlockable bootloaders, while other carriers' were locked. This is the first phone in recent memory that has shipped locked down on Tmo, at least since I've been with them. This leads me to believethat they generally request theirs to be unlocked. If they didn't have the choice (which I guess is entirely possible) this would be the first time I can recall.
In addition, the fact that Samsung released their own Exynos versions with unlockable bootloaders lends itself to the theory that the BLs were locked at US carrier request. More than likely, AT&T and Verizon requested locked down versions, and for one reason or another, Tmo and Sprint didn't specifically request unlocked ones. I don't pretend to know what those reasons are, but I'm sure they're there.
It's also possible that ALL Snapdragon variants are locked by Qualcomm, since the only way to unlock the Asian Snapdragon variants is with the CROM Service app, but the CROM Service app doesn't work on US versions because we don't have the CROM lock on our bootloaders. This brings up the question of who's choice it was to exclude this lock as well. If it was Samsung, why did they include it on the Asian variants?Logically, it always comes back to the US carriers no matter how you look at it. This part is entirely speculation, however.
The LG G2 was locked and LG said they locked it themselves and no one was given the option and that included overseas as well.
All HTC devices were locked by HTC, but they gave an option to unlock it. HTC on carriers request will remove carrier devices from the unlock list if requested.

---------- Post added at 07:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:27 AM ----------
Also just because other variants have the ability doesn't mean carriers were given an option. For example China which you brought up has the option. In China that could be a government request and in order to sell there they must have a method to do so.
They could easily flash a new bootloader and install allow Crom in the states. T-Mobile right now is playing nice and is taking the heat for something they probably didn't have an option, or could very well didn't know they had an option due to the fact Samsung never told them or they assumed it was unlocked as you always had to request it to be locked.

The difference between those examples and this one is that in those cases, ALL devices were locked unless (in HTC's case) the carrier specifically requested otherwise. This only lends itself to my explanation. In this case, only the Snapdragon variants are locked. Samsung's own Exynos versions aren't. The only thing that makes sense is that Samsung locked the BLs at AT&T and Verizon's request, and Tmo and Sprint were like "*shrug* whatever". Or it's possible they wanted unlocked versions, but some other circumstances prevented that from happening.
I don't know for sure, this is just the most plausible explanation I can see. Either way though it doesn't really matter. As I said in my first post on this thread, the only ones who can do anything about it have moved on and by the time Tmo or Samsung release an unlock (if they ever do) there will be significantly less development than the international version, since most devs have jumped over there.
It can't be BOTH ways. It either has to be locked and carrier request to unlock or unlocked and carriers have to lock it. Right now you are using both ways. If Verizon and AT&T can request it to be locked then that means they were unlocked to begin with. That means Sprint and T-Mobile would have to request them to be unlocked. That would mean Samsung themselves couldn't have locked it. Now if it was reversed then you would have a point. Right now last I remember both Sprint and T-Mobile said it's Samsung who locked it. The way they talk it seems like they were never given the option. Samsung could clear the air but remains silent probably due to the fact they locked it themselves and NEVER gave anyone an option here in the states.

I switched to Verizon from Sprint and may be regretting that decision as Verizon is blocking the Samsung 15GB of cloud access I was using on Sprint. Seems that Verizon is being the greedy company as they are forcing you to buy anything over 5GB of cloud storage. I find the Samsung cloud backs up more when it comes to phone settings then the Verizon one does. I understand all carriers put their own software on the phone but I never had a vendor block and app or feature such as that. Debating on just switching back to Sprint.
have you tried side loading?
I don't have the app installer to even try that, it is also not in the Play Store, it was something Samsung installed. If I used Quick Shortcut maker I can see it in "activities" but it won't launch properly. I think Verizon did something to prevent it from loading.

They did this on the Note 7, I think eventually a way was found. Try searching the verizon note 7 forums.
If Samsung provides free functionality on the phone that duplicates something that Verizon offers for a monthly fee - like cloud storage, for example - that Samsung free feature will be removed by Verizon.
Last year, they removed Samsung's "FindMyMobile" feature from the S7. When I inquired about why it was removed, they steered me toward their VZ Protection service - that has similar locate and wipe capabilities - for only $11.99/month.
Ever wonder how they got to be worth $200 billion?

why would they put a apk inside their store? Does this even work?
When is Samsung going to get a backbone and stand up to this bull****? Apple tells Verizon to F-Off, so should Samsung.

What advantage does the Samsung FindMyMobile have over the base Google "Android Device Manager" (which does work with my Verizon S8+)?

Did anyone figure out how to get this working on the S8? I tried the short cut method and had no success

I looked into this and I found out that FindMyMobile can turn location services on, which is useful for me as I usually leave location off unless I need it. I believe my verizon s5 had included, so somewhere along the line verizon forced it to be removed.
Anyone doing some more research into getting samsung cloud working? especially now that verizon decided it's cloud would go pay onlyand stop the free service (except for contacts)?? I found the history on the note 7, but the number of running services/processes was 3 or 4 vs just 1 on the s8 when viewing it with quickshortcutmaker...

Flash the unlocked firmware on it.
I found a way to do it. About to post a guide.
Confirmed they are blocking it. You must use VPN to bypass. :good: Bye Net Neutrality. Welcome great firewall of Trump*cough* China.
