Can you guys check something with the camera? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Ok, so when the screen is off and I double click the power button to utilize the camera feature, after taking the picture, my only option if I click on the picture (via little button on bottom right), is to delete the picture, and none of the other options offered in the gallery, like edit, SHARE (which is my issue I'd like to do!), etc. . .you'd think all of the options would be available after taking a pic by double clicking the power button and waking the phone. . .
If the phone is on and I double click to get to the camera and subsequently take a pic, all of the options are available. The problem only seems to be when the screen is off. . .

This is because your screen is locked, and the phone won't allow you to share and access other personal features without unlocking your phone.

Hmmmm, interesting. Guess that makes sense, so you can take a picture but not do anything else. . . .except I have smart lock enabled and my phone is unlocked while at home, bluetooth devices connected, etc. . .

That's pretty much it. You probably have the lock screen security features enabled which you choose when you first setup your device and set a lock screen. It's a smart feature for security reasons. Otherwise someone can find your phone and start scrolling through your nudes. As for smart lock the device is still locked unless you swipe. It doesnt take you straight to the home screen when you power on the screen again. Yet again a security feature. Common sense really

yep, as Valkiry said, as long as you don't unlock the phone, even if it's only a swipe, you don't get the access to it. If you want full access, swipe first to unlock, then double click power button into camera, now you will have full access.

Understood. Just thought that smart lock would recognize the camera use and all it's features, that's all. . thanks for the explanation guys!

If my screen is off, not locked, I get the menu. This was just a test shot. And yes, puggle is licking the couch.

See? That's what I was wondering my phone should know via Smart Lock that I'm home therefore should not be locked and if I double click the power button to take a picture I would expect to have all the options on what to do with that picture once I push the right side / preview button

[Q] Serious Problem: Galaxy S4 I9500 Lockscreen Shutdown Enabled

Hello everyone, this is my first post on xda forums. I hope someone out there might be able to help me out.
I accidentally found out that on my galaxy s4 I9500 lock screen, I can still press and hold power button and it gives me options to power off/restart my phone. I have pattern lock enabled. I tried and successfully powered off the phone straight from my lock screen, not to mention that it scared me out. What if it gets stolen? Anybody can turn if off and I wont be able to track it down or enable any thing via SMS commands etc.
What's the purpose of lock screen if the phone can be turned off, if not unlocked, and I couldn't do anything about it.
I recently updated android 4.4 and I am not sure whether or not this issue persisted before that. I am attaching a screenshot of it. Looking forward for someone to sort this out for me. Thanks.

Did you just find out after reading this post or were you aware of it before?
And have you not thought that even if it is as you describe what is the benefit
not so great
If someone steals your phone much easier to remove the battery and that is even faster than pressing buttons
this is just my personal opinion

Yes, you're absolutely right, but then again it raises a big question mark on all the tracking and anti-theft apps as well as Google's own android device manager feature a bunch of crappy apps which do no good at all except for playing sirens via laptop on your own phone and thinking it actually works.
Plus if the thief is within the room, he wont go through all the trouble of removing the protective case, back cover and then removing battery itself. He'd simply turn it off and wait.
It has been like this since I can remember, way before 4.4. In GS3 and GS4, probably in SGII too, this I don't remember.

So are you asking for something along the lines of...
A1. Unlock phone once with PIN -> A2. Can use phone as if there was no PIN lock (Slide to unlock) for 1 hour -> A3. 1 hour is over, phone reactivates PIN, go to A1
Correct?
Edit: Been messing around with tasker app factory. It's pretty easy to do if you disable the lockscreen entirely, but then there isn't even slide to unlock, the phone just turns on and goes right back to what was last opened when you hit the power button instead of showing swipe to unlock first. It could be done with tasker to show the slide to unlock, but would probably get a bit hacky
The result of said trial is below if you want to try it out
i found Delayed Lock (from j4velin) on Google Play. Seems to do what you need (and more)
It's paid app but you can try the free version for 7 days. Hope this helps.

Question about camera app preview icon

Sorry I am new to this forum and not sure if this is the place to ask questions. I just got my 6p today and was excited to try the camera but soon found out that I can't preview the photos that was taken in the previous session (like the photos I took with this phone previously). I attached a picture and you can see the lock icon on the lower right corner. Is it supposed to be like this?

That only appears if your phone is not unlocked and you launch the camera from the lockscreen. Otherwise, if you unlock your phone first before launching the camera, then you should be able to see the images there.

I see! Wow that's tricky. I always use the power button push twice to go into camera. Didn't know that's considered "not unlocked". I even unlocked the phone first then push power button twice but no veil. Thanks for cracking the code!

Np. It's mainly for security so a random person can't just go through your gallery. Also, when you double tap the power button, your phone is actually first locked. The double tap for camera shortcut essentially works by sensing the delay between the first tap and the second tap, if it is too small, then launches camera. Otherwise, it just turns your screen on and off, locking your phone.
Edit: my XDA app seems to be out of saying with the rest of the world. There was only the OP post showing when I replied.

Customize Navbar Buttons? Wireless Charging?

Title says it all.
What kind of customization? Moving or other? You can swap positions and add a couple predefined LG buttons. Lg says there will be a wireless charging but I will believe when I see it. All this info is available in threads. Those threads say more.
I want to add a screen off and an old-fashioned menu button.

yea I would like to have that option as well.
I also use a screen off button. The one I use can no longer be found on the playstore. Not sure why but I had a backup of the apk on my sd card and it seems to work fine.
Screen off, double tap on any place of the screen where an app icon is not placed.
Menu, what kind of menu button are you looking for?
I'm looking to add a menu button to the on screen keys

Long press on home screen.
Select widget tab
Scroll to the settings shortcut widget.
Add the settings shortcut widget.
Another way is to drag and drop the settings icon from the app drawer
Is any app you could use to prevent from screen to shutting down? I mean, I used to use "always on" app but with 7.0 is not working correctly.
I wish I could just read the book and not to tap the screen all the time to wake screen up.

On my G3 there was an option called "Smart Screen" that kept the screen on while you were looking at it. I loved that option. I don't know why LG got rid of it. It was a separate app. I wonder if it would still work on V20

Screebl... I've used it for years, customizable Screen on based on phone orientation.
Always on works perfect on my v20. I also use screen off widget to turn my screen off as well as double tap to turn on.

problem with screen off and any widget or app i have found is that it is a harder lock than just hitting the button.. you will need a pattern to unlock it just like first boot (ie fingerprint unlock non operational) very annoying...

True. I don't use any lockscreen - so I always forget about that. If requiring you to not do anything to turn your screen on is important to you - then why would you even have a lockscreen setup?

Another way to take a screen shot ?

I hate to push 2 buttons to capture the screen, what another way to take it, like Samsung's slip screen or MIUI's three fingers ? Thanks

btw im using stock rom
just follow this tutorial
https://www.xda-developers.com/customise-the-navigation-bar-android-oreo/
I actually use a application called simple control so that to keep my navigation button on the screen near my thumb and I can configure the buttons to do some kind of functions like taking screenshots for example.
If you like to use the on screen navigation buttons on another part of the screen then you can use this application and configure it to take the screenshot as per your wish
(This is only a kind of suggestion)
