I hate to push 2 buttons to capture the screen, what another way to take it, like Samsung's slip screen or MIUI's three fingers ? Thanks

Yeah... My 2 year old mobile running on Android 6 has the soft key for taking screenshots and editing as well.
This latest phone doesn't have it..

btw im using stock rom
just follow this tutorial
https://www.xda-developers.com/customise-the-navigation-bar-android-oreo/
I actually use a application called simple control so that to keep my navigation button on the screen near my thumb and I can configure the buttons to do some kind of functions like taking screenshots for example.
If you like to use the on screen navigation buttons on another part of the screen then you can use this application and configure it to take the screenshot as per your wish
(This is only a kind of suggestion)

and add quick setting tile for taking screenshots
Setting>accessibility>accessibility menu>ON.
You can take screen shots and more from home

Hi,
Menu=>Remove Quick Links..remove the top 3 Quick Links (which will always be the 3 that appears in your Home page).
You now have 3 empty Quick link boxes to assign new apps to.
Hope that's what you're after..

It's not under the start menu. It's under "Menu", the bottom-right softkey.
Really thank you!
I think I'll learn the ancient Aramaic only to curse myself...
...it would take me less time than what I've spent to look for this key that was under my nose!

Hi there,
There are total 9 quick links, 3 x 3 rows,
2 x 3 hidden below, just use your finger flip the 1 row upwards . . .
ok so how is it possible to remove the calender and quick links area from the home screen...i dont need them and i want to free up space on my home screen...
OK - slightly related question. I have just (this afternoon) got an HD2 on Virgin UK and so far I'm very happy. I'm trying to change the buttons and have found the delete area etc and can change them BUT the third button on the main screen seems to be locked to Virgin Media. Does anyone know of a way to change this?
On page 2 of my App selection screen I there are these outlines of what look like icons on the left side of the screen (see attached image). Any idea as to what those are for?
Thanks!

Press on them and you'll be taken to that page of apps. It's more of an indicator if you still have apps on additional pages in the app drawer. Looks cool too with the holo outline.

ah ok good idea thanks!
The perform two functions you don't immediately recognize.
1- Informing you of an overflow situation(i.e. "There's more stuff here")
2- Quick Navigation (Tap on it and it scrolls the page for you)
This is also evident on the homescreens, if you tap the edge of the screens it'll move to the next page for you.
Ha, really OP?
It looks really cool, but unfortunately many apps don't work fully and just show either a circle or square halo. It's great how the default apps have the actual outline.
Does anybody know how that outline is defined for app icons? Does it just take the transparency of the the png?
I've dropped the phone quite a few times but the screen looks perfect. But the past few days I noticed to drag the notification drawer down I have to push on the screen hard while I drag or it will slide back up. It acts up other times too. For instance, in snapchat while holding down to view a snap if I slide my finger out of the way it deselects. Could I have caused damage that's not visible? It also has a TPU case.
Update: I notice the problem only happens vertically and I have no problem swiping side to side. And I also realized its not how hard I press, its more how slowly I swipe. to pull the notification drawer down I have to either pull it really slow or flick it down
I've noticed this same exact behavior on my Verizon G2. I found that my Knock On stopped working as well. Trying to figure out the cause, I tested the Screen with the Paint option in YAMTT.
I found there was a decent portion of the screen that was unresponsive to touch all the way from left to right in a band, almost directly over the physical buttons on the back.
I've called Verizon and they are sending me another one over night.

Had same problem and sent to LG. They replaced with reconditioned phone. Common problem.
If I take it to best buy where I got it will they fix it?
Mine isn't working in about the same spot as yours and knock on works only occasionally

No, they will not. This needs to go back to the manufacturer for warranty.

Oh.. Ok
Please be kind and use easy words. I'm a noob!
I would like to ask if it is possible for the S8 to have a full screen all the time? Without the nav bars. I know they disappear with You Tube and some other apps, but can it be done as a standard setting.
I don't mind playing with settings and trying things, as long as I can use simple terms.
Thanks in advance.

Apparently there is a way.
Maybe easier with this app (I did not try)

This app will do the job too selecting "Fullscreen for current app". Then you can use Bixby button to enable / disable full screen.

This full screen is not the same as the ADB version. That fully resizes the apps. The app version just removes the status bar and nav and leaves a blank black area in most apps.
Yes, the ADB version is the truest form of full screen. Really liking it. My one gripe with on-screen buttons was that they made the actual usable screen space smaller. This way we get to maximize the entire display. Love being able to tweak our phones to our personal likes. Something much easier to do with Android, even non-rooted android, than IOS.
This is awesome but it should have been already included as a feature.

It is with some apps, you have to press the open apps button on the screen and if you can view that app in full screen you press on the green circle in the upper right hand side of the screen.

Usually, long-press is for selecting text, but on this Xperia it's popping up with a magnifying glass instead. Is there any way to turn this off?

I haven't found that to be the case. Usually long-press on Internet page selects text. You might be experiencing a function built in to a specific app...
Xichael talks about this. When you select text in your input there is a zoom.

Yes, mine is like that, but round. An easy place to try it is in Chrome's address bar.
EDIT: Actually, I get the rectangular one too. They seem to take over in any text input field.

It's not linked to an app. If you write a text somewhere and try to select it, the zoom will appear
Magnifier is useful for selecting special place for cursor on small screen. It's a feature on fields that can be edited/written in.
If you want to select a word, use double-tap.
I use Gboard's space bar swiping feature to reposition the cursor. Really hope there's a way to disable this. It makes selecting text inconsistent, and I truly have no need for it.
Settings > Accessibility > Magnification
Disable
I don't have that option. There's something called "magnification gesture", but it's already turned off.

Which version of Android are you using on your X Compact? Nougat has the magnification bubble when editing text but this seems to have been removed in Oreo.

Which phone is that? I only know of iPhones, Xperia's, Asus Zenfone and some early HTC phones having the magnification bubble to edit text. Shame more phones don't have it, it's very useful.
