Hey guys.
My galaxy note will be arriving tomorrow. And just been reading the sticky about peoples devices becoming un-usable after flashing certain ICS roms.
Want to know what advice on ROMS people have got to give me as I want to flash a custom rom before I start using it.
Throw anything at me, what to stay away from and what not.
Welcome to the note, I'm sure you'll be overwhelmed as I was for the first 3 or so days, and that doesn't really seem to wear off too much
We've got a great amount of development and support going on for this device. If you're interested in ics straight off, check out the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659768. That shows you the safe builds vs the current affected ICS kernels that could brick you. Personally, CM9 and paranoid Android are the most enticing, although both in early stages.
Also, check out Dr. Ketans guide to ROM installation and rooting, it's a sticky in the ROM development section and has everything you need to get rooted and cwm installation which you will need on your out of the box gingerbread before you can flash custom roms and kernels.
There's loads on here, and everybody has their own preferences, so hunt around. I hope you get as much joy, and fear, as I do

Welcome! Just stay away from anything and everything related to ICS except the official CM9 nightlies. basically its the only safe way to get ICS on the phone (at the cost of S-memo etc. of course).
Thats about it, really. you might feel too big at first but give it 5 days and everything else will just seem too small. dat screen.

Just looking an international I9300 ROM development forum, and jealous :crying:, so many amazing custom ROMS like this , and this one, and here for my AT&T model is ...- 2 if you can even call it a "ROM's", -sad. I switched from international SII I9100 which had tons of custom ROMs to I747 for which a cant even download CallRec MOD.
LTE? - thanks, u can keep it! Anyone willing to trade international for I747 ?
The international has been out a bit longer. And you're always gonna see more dev work for an international phone. That's just the way it is. Be patient. It will come man.
Just wait a bit longer, theme section is making a lot progress on theme department, plus we got myn making rom for it too(Idk if you heard about his work but he has done some great things for evo) so is just matter of time, the phone been out for 2 weeks and I think it will be great device for routers and developers

..AT&T with 2 ROMs, and Verizon with 0 ROMs - 2 most BIG time
Retarded sections ,.. unbelievable, - even to compare to T-Mobile and Sprint with at least 5 ROMs to choose.,
Willing to donate, but ...
Goo Sprint devs!

You had to start a new thread for this? Pretty lame. Since AT&T version just came out why don't you return it and buy the international version? Then you'll have nothing to complain about
I don't know how you expect there to be a bunch of roms out already. The phone was only available with a pre order, and was just released in stores today. Patience.

Exactly, today is the launch day for AT&T. By my count there is 5 ROMs and a lot of devs who just mentioned they just got the phone. Patiences... amazing things are in the works... :highfive:

Hope you drop your phone. Way to put down the devs on the att side. Take it back to the store and go get the international one.
edit: if you can't return it then sell it.
So you give reasons y the international ver is better and you expect to get a trade for your "inferior" version
This is bad marketing
Besides there will be plenty of toms in no time
Also I personally kepp my phone on stock for at least 2 weeks after getting the phone
Mostly just to see what Sammy expects normal people to deal with

Honestly the stock Rom is running so good i haven't thought of flashing one yet. Heck good battery life has made me even not to root and debloat yet. But anyway i will root soon just to install adblock and tools like TB. My point is that during initial days of my previous phone which is SG1 there were so many issues like lag, gps, rfs file system etc etc which made flashing roms inevitable. But so far i am really enjoying stock software.

I see what you mean coming from a nexus on aokp and jelly bean back to touchwiz is a huge blah, but when roms are available this device will be amazing!! Just patiently sitting this through.

Every time I see people complaining about custom ROMs for the S3 (or any other phone) I get miffed.
Stop *****ing about what other people do or don't do for you. If you want a custom ROM that meets your needs, build one yourself or pay someone to do it.
The people who create these ROMs do so because they love doing it, not because it's their job (Though people do donate to them, I am sure they do not get what creating ROMs like this is really worth).
I see you're on Telus, well the Telus phone only came out 10 days ago, I know because I got one on the first day. How long do you think it takes to make a custom Android ROM for a phone? I have no idea, but I am sure there are hundreds of hours spent on creating each and every one.
Besides, did you get the S3 because of the custom ROMs available for it or because it is the best phone out there right now? This little beast can do things no other phone can dream of and you ***** about custom ROMs.

I am currently running M.O.A.R. rom on my Verizon S5. It has been okay, but it has it's downfalls. I am asking the community, what is the most up to date and reliable rom out there for the S5? Should I just go back to a stock rom? Looking for any and all advice.
none of them are perfect. Thats the difference between this phone and the last couple android phones ive had. With my s3 and my epic4g there was always one or two roms that were rock solid perfect even if not very exciting. Here its just what you can live with not working vs another
EDIT: I take that back, there were a couple rock solid roms, before everyone started switching to lollipop. Mrxtc's RICKSROM on Kitkat was rock effing solid. But he took it down. Kitkat in general was wholly more reliable and way better battery life and just everything. I wish someone still had a nice Kitkat rom.

Hello.
Ive been out of Romming for a couple of years now. So... Im kind of nervous about flashing anything. I bought a MXP this morning and it is running Orion 6.0.1. What is the best way to return to stock? I read the return to stock thread but it was all about 5.1.1 Not sure how that works switching from M back to L. I know some phones and Roms have a difficult time with that. I feel like i'm late to the game with this phone and have so much learning to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Just got a second hand GS5 -- my first Android phone. I'm in Australia, and I noticed that during boot up it has a kind of loading page with Optus on it (Australian network)... why is that exactly? Is it locked to Optus...?
What's the benefit of rooting it? I plan to use this solely as a work phone - only texting and calling. I'd like it to have long battery life so I've turned on as many battery savings settings as I could find, save for the grey scale option. Anything I can do to further improve battery life?
What's the latest version of Android that the GS5 can run...?
I have bought GS5 not so long ago. I am in same doubt as you. Root it or not lol. I am not planning to flash custom rom on it because stock is fast and stable enough for normal use. GS5 received android MM aswell. You can disable some apps which you do not use to increase performance. Titanium Backup can do job aswell but phone has to be rooted.

I see I see, thanks. Yeah I don't think I need a custom rom on it, but I wonder if it's worthwhile changing the firmware to the one not tied to any particular network.

That home screen / battery life screen looks cool. So a custom rom is like the UI and everything from another phone made compatible with the GS5 (or other)??

that's theme from samsung theme store. what series of s5 do u have? if g900F, so get custom rom for F series.
u can get most of feature that ported firmware. Edge panel, direct to samsung theme store access, u can change the theme, icons, wallpaper.
everytime i buy an android, maybe only last for a month in stock . at that moment, i searching, reading and learn how to root my phone.
if people say that stock is better than custom rom, clearly they don't know what they talking about
try it..and be addict to flashing :good::fingers-crossed:
