I have the T8585 HD2, recently ive been having troubles with the battery...
I was getting intermittent battery drain for no apparent reason, the back of the phone would get very hot. Searching I found that this had something to do with the SD card not being formatted properly, did this and havent had this same issue since.
Last night I charged the phone while on my PC, was approximately 80%. I wake up this morning and the phone is dead, wont turn on. So i plug it in to charge again and then it starts to do the soft reset loop thing, I just left it go for about 6 or 7 loops and then it seemed to settle. I look at the battery capacity and its 0%.
This explains why it was dead, but why the hell is the battery draining to nothing over night? I did not notice it getting hot last night and it was dead cold this morning. Battery terminals are not bent as some others have suggested as a cause for this.
I really like the HD2 but this battery thing on top of the poor capacity for the this type of phone is really starting to disappoint.
I have not messed with ROMs yet, so its running the following that i got with the phone...
ROM 1.66.707.1 (76641) WWE
Radio 2.06.51.07
Any ideas on this would be helpful!!
Same phone, same software
I have exactly same phone & software, I upgraded rom to this 1. But have had no problems with phone at all. Few soft resets at 1st, but then started deleteing messages, shutting down programs in background, no problems since. Hope you get figured out,,
I'm having the exact same problem. I've had the phone since November and, although the battery doesn't last like it used to, since about 2 days ago the phone has gone haywire!
I haven't installed any new apps or used the phone any differently than usual but, after getting readings of between 15 - 20mA in standby (with Battery Guard) I'm getting on average 490mA now in standby! Crazy! The back of the phone is getting so hot that I'm actually worried that it might do the phone damage and, like the OP, I'll go to bed with a full charge and wake up with the phone so dead that I have to pull the battery before I can start to recharge.
I've removed some of the PDF files and other things that might be causing slowdown etc due to but there is definitely a problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what kind of things I should look for that could be causing this before I contact the insurance guys for a replacement?
Thanks in advance
Im having a similar problem with my HTC raphael with WiMo 6.5 Roms didnt tried if the problem exists in 6.1.
My phone is fine today, was 100% last night, 95% this morning. Im starting to think this is a software issue not hardware due to the randomness....

funny you put it this way.... its actually the other way around.... nevertheless i understand what u mean (off-topic, just couldn't resist ;-) )
when the power usage jumps from 20ma to 490ma and gets very hot the battery has started to fail - don't be surprised their qualty is hit or miss. I'm on the T8585 HD2 (1.66 rom) since November and a few weeks ago the battery would get hot in standby and battery life dropped by half. I popped in a spare battery and problem instantly went away. I've since bought a 1,300 mha battery from Mugen, phone runs great again.
Hi. Had a similar thing with the battery drain, but the last few night I have put the phone on charge as normal and in the morning I have Nealy dropped the phone because of how hot the back was. Any ideas?
Happened again today, fully charged last night, 0% this morning. Very unhappy about this, this is a serious reliability issue that a $700 phone shouldn't have.
I would suggest checking your task managers processes, I had a process - Filesys.exe that was using 98% of my processor for long periods of time and absolutely eating battery life.
Yeah i have installed battlog to see if that will shed any light on the problem...
Did u try hard-resetting ur device?
no, im trying to avoid that at this stage, I want to find the source of the problem.
Had the same issue. Phone worked very well for a few months and then this battery drain + overheating issue started all of a sudden. Tried hard reset, disabled 3g and problem continued. Finally, got my phone replaced with great difficulty and problem solved!
Anyway, check the signal strength. One of the issues could be the phone trying to connect repeatedly when the signal is weak. You can also try to disable data connections to see if that causes the problem (Disable all autoupdates like email, twitter, weather and so on).
Hello all,
I bought the HD a couple of months after it first was released and have never had this problem until about 3 days ago, where my phone has started to suddenly "die" even with ample battery life in it. When I reboot it, it simply starts to reboot then dies again as if the battery is dead, however, when I plug it into the charger, it shows that it has over half to almost full battery life. So the problem can not be that the battery is simply dying. What could be causing this problem? I have ample free main storage and program memory and it occurs even when there is only one program running or even when I'm just in the middle of a call.
Can anyone help me solve this problem? I have tons of medical programs in my phone which took forever to install and don't want to hard reset the phone, especially if that is not even the solution to the problem. Help?
Same thing happened to me, but my phone gets some water. I had to dry it and wait a month. Then it worked fine. If your phone hasn't took any water the problem must be elsewhere.
One question, it dies even if attached to the power? or only on battery?
If it dies only on battery then could be the battery not working properly.
bye
Batteries do weird stuff when they're dead. If it works OK on power but not on battery, chances are the battery is indeed on its way out. If you don't want to do a hard reset, a replacement battery on ebay is cheap and worth trying.
Hello,
I have exactly the same behavior. I changed of Rom, different build, each time running Task29, but it is always the same thing :
- when charged, phone never dies
- when on battery, it randomly dies but always when phone is awake
I think too it may come from the battery, so I just ordered a new one, and I'll keep you up to date.
Ciao,
Yea, so far it has occurred about 4 times, always when it's not plugged in however the battery meter shows alof of battery time left. I'm thinking it's the battery too, it just sucks to have to pay so much for an OEM battery. Oh well, thanks for the help everyone.
Hello,
so I received my new battery this morning.
After some phone calls and some tests...so far so good ! I'll tell you if something's change in the next days, but it seems changing the battery is the solution.
Cheers,
Mine started doing similar things. Guess I will order a battery too. Which one did you get?
Well I got the exact same one I had previously : an official htc touch hd battery.
Part number : 35H00120-01M.
I hope this one will last until I really want to change my phone .
Any more issues since replacing the battery?
still no issues so far. I am really happy because as the battery is new, my phone last much longer than before.
Same here. Got the new battery yesterday and it's back to it's old self. Now it should last me until the dual core processor Android devices come out next year.
Well it would be nice if my pnone only turned off when it wasnt on charge but it seems to just reset itself whenever it wants. it will simply turn off and start right back up sometimes not even reaching the rom load before it turns off again. It does this for a while or just simply once. I tried erasing all data off it and hoping it was something i uploaded but it could be that my battery is just no good anymore.
Any suggestions? ive been dealing with this for 6 months
I don't know about you, but I played quite a lot with my phone, trying a lot of ROM, for a while, even beta ones, and I tried to overclock it. Often the phone would heat up a lot. It may have be hard on the battery.
Right now I am using a stable rom of NRG from last month, with the new battery, and everything is fine. The phone never heat, and I happy for now.
Like Marksm, I am waiting for Android dual core phones or at least based on Tegra 2.

As pointed out in above posts, a change in battery appears to have rectified issue
been there done that. Didnt work, i got a new phone but i would really like to keep this.
Hello Experts,
My Battery is draining like crazy. I tried almost everything to figure out what is the issue but could not figure out. Below are the details I gathered from the things I tried.
My battery started draining almost 30 % overnight. Initially I thought it was due to the Unofficial Marshmallow Rom, I could see Wi-Fi to be cause of this drain. Hence I tried different Roms (Cyanogen Mod, PA, DarkObas, Sultan ROM, and stock Cyanogen OS ( Past 3 versions, including latest one). but the battery drain didn't stop.
So I decided to flash PA rom again, installed OpenGapps PICO (Only Google play service nothing else). I installed CPU spy and left it over night in Airplane mode. When I checked in the morning (after 7 hours) battery drain was of 25 %. This was surprising as nothing was running on my phone and only the minimum apps were installed. At this time, CPU spy showed no abnormal wake locks and was in Deep Sleep for almost 93% of the total time. The stock battery usage showed only Mobile Stand by and usage of 50 mAh.
Can you please help me figure out what is causing the battery drain.

Did you try to disable Location>Scanning>Wi-Fi scanning & Bluetooth Scanning? I had a similar situation and started using amplify + greenify on Resurrection Remix and now I have a very good battery life...

Thank you for your reply.
Yes I already tried that. The strange thing is Battery drain is observed in Airplane mode also, while minimum apps installed(Stock apps with PA rom and Opengapps Pico package). Do you have any other suggestions.
It's really hard to judge what could be your issue, you can try different methods to find out who is the actual culprit.May be an app eating your battery or device might have nasty wakelocks, alarms etc or the battery itself would be damaged etc.
Anyways,Turn off ambient display, install BetterBatteryStats then run a full cycle and analyze entire stats of your battery, you'll get know the issue or at least a clue. If you couldn't find out the issue after BetterBatteryStats test then clean flash the a ROM(Recommends CandySix or Darkobas ) w/o GApp and give it a try
Firmware
Try a different firmware version. Here's a link :

Sounds like your battery cannot hold its charge anymore.
How old is your OPO? May be your battery life is about to over.
And this battery drain suddenly started or gradually increased?
Try diagnosing by changing the Location settings to device only. It's some weird bug with COS and CM that's making it to the latest builds of 6.0.1 . I saw that older builds in May don't have this problem.

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the delayed response. I was getting New Battery
Unfortunately, Problem still exists even with the Brand New battery. Can any hardware issue cause this issue? It's certainly not Battery problem and not software problem as well.

You really should have taken my advice earlier and diagnose before making any decisions. If your battery truly was dying, then apps like 3C and Geekbench's battery test would've picked this up as they've linear-regression curve data from aggregate sources that you could've compared to. In your OP, you stated that you saw WiFi as a culprit, but did you also know that Google Play Services (depending on version) can do location requests up to 78 times within the hour on stock apps alone? I used to have this similar battery issue, but that was related to location-requests from Google Play Services that somehow propagated to other sources based on CM13's July commit, meaning that kernels also based on this could've been affected as well. What I eventually settled for, in the meantime, is using SultanXDA's 08082016 build and so far everything looks good on Wifi regarding what I expect for typical battery performance. If I learn something, I'll come back to report on it.

I did took your advice and checked Location services. The problem occurs even with Wi-fi, 3G and Location desiabled. Also in Airplane mode with almost nothing installed (only gapps PICO package and CPUSpy)
i suggest trying old version it may help

You might wanna try that. Possibly MM eating through. I still use Lollipop too. I find no need for MM yet. Also MM feels anti-dev to me for some reason :/ Needs all workarounds for things that were previously much easy to do. Oh well. Try Lollipop and see if it helps? It'd have been my first step for troubleshooting before buying a new battery

Yesterday, I left my phone in Recovery mode (TWRP 3.0.2.0). In less then 5 hours, I observed battery drain of 20%. Same amount of drain is observed when running MM rom. I don't think changing to Lollipop will help. To me it looks like some hardware issue, can any hardware beside battery cause such issue?
It’s been a while that I have a strange problem with my batteries. I used two different batteries, both original, charged with the original charger support for the second battery (sell in bundle with it).
It’s almost two months that my phone started to turn off suddenly when the battery level is around the 30%, with both of them. I thought it was a problem related to the batteries age, since I’m using them in the last 2 years.
I tried anyway to contain the problem. As first option, I did a battery calibration. To do this I needed to discharge all the juice from batteries. I noticed that the residual 30% that I saw before the phone turn off wasn’t a fake value: it was real.
When I turn on the phone in recovery, the battery level is exactly the same that I have when phone turn off itself. Moreover, to reach 0% of battery level I have to wait a while and I can keep the screen on (always in recovery) for about an hour. On the other hand, if I try to restart the system, the phone turns off just after the Samsung logo of starts a non-sense bootloop.
Considering what I ‘ve written above, I think that my problem it’s not an hardware problem.
Does anyone have similar problems? Do you have any suggestion to avoid it?
As supplementary information, I’m running the last Italian official firmware with TWRP and root.
same problem
I am note 4 owner for 1 week now
it is an used phone (rebuy)
original rom 6.0.1 newest updates
on delivery the batterie was on 0%
first time use it shutdown at 35%
without warning
now after multiple charging and calibration
it shutdown at 20%
in 2 days I will get new Batterie and I will check again.
maybe batterie is old
Similar issue in the last week or so with my N4. Original replacement battery, 10 month old, turning off with no warning on reaching between 20-15 % charge mostly if i try to use the camera. I've put back the original battery and seems fine for now. Ordered another battery, Anker this time, just in case
Yeah Samsung carefully crafted these batteries so that they won't work any more after six months of usage of something. Mine is nine months old, the phone itself, brand new, and mine turns off at various battery percentages, sometimes its 5, sometimes its 12, I have stopped caring and I charge whenever I get a chance.
Conclusion Faulty Battery Only
Any battery poerventage is mainly determined with help of its volatage. As battery discharges this voltage also reduces. As battery grow older, we is gradually unable to handle the load as it used to when new one. Also battery life is determined by its charging and discharging cycles. It was all about basic. Now talking about note 4, being andriod fone and requres lot of battery so we usually charge it for 2 times depending on use.
The same problem was faced by me as well for note 4 at 30% it used to reboot all of sudden and thereafter bool loop (in actuality it is not as battery deoesnt handle load and it again starts to boot so no home screen). Replaced the battery with original one a month ago and now issue till date and fone lasts below 5 to 10% with 4G on and doing browsing.
So it is concluded for sure that battery problem.
Weird thing last night i experienced the same issue! And my phone is only 8 month old, i think this issue it's related to Samsung updates.. my phone did shut down in exactly 30% and started to go in bootloop i removed the battery and put it back and still the same i was about to factory reset my device for god sake ? luckily i did connect my charger before i factory reset my phone i gave it one last try and it did boot normally.
So i am not really sure what is going on.. no more updates for me unless it's a major changes
Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
Happened to me too. I think it's the battery, I tried several batteries, some cause sudden power off some doesn't.
I'm upping my thread after two months to say that I solved my battery problem changing them. I bought a new one from Samsung official store and now I'm able to do more than 4 hours of SOT and charge phone once in two days (Red Dragon Note 7 porting). Before to change, I was not able to use any Sammy ROMs, due to several reboots and disgraceful battery life.
I don't know if the battery is the guilty for everyone's problems, but I really suggest to try to change it. Just, be sure to buy an original one, because there are a lot of genuine clones, especially on e-commerce sites.
For what regards the problem itself, I think that the cause could be the use of a different charger (Samsung, but for an earphone), coupled with the extra battery kit. Unfortunately the original adaptive fast charger stopped to work a month after the phone arrived and I didn't bother about it.
So, I also suggest to use only the original cables to charge the device.
I hope that this testimony will help someone with the same problem and, at same time, I also hope that Samsung will consider to use again removable batteries to give people the opportunity to do what I did.
First of all -please excuse the thread's title, but I encountered an issue where I couldn't input content in the "title" box unless I refreshed the page and started typing before it loaded the page fully (tried on both Chrome and Firefox - VERY odd).
Recently I've encountered issues with the phone (N910F) getting really hot and shutting down the phone. I was in The Philippines at the time and the daily temp was around 34 degrees so I thought this may have had something to do with it. One battery in particular, whenever I used the camera it would shut the phone down. I stopped using that battery and then eventually the other 2 have been doing the same - they are all after market batteries bought from Amazon from Anker and Rav power and within a year old. But then it would get worse and the phone would just randomly shut down - it seemed to make no difference if it was at 90% or 30, it would just die. I'd often have to do a battery pull and hold down the power button just to get it to fire back up again. Over the last 2 weeks it's gone form a few times a day, to multiple times an hour! I even tried to limit the load by changing the governor to "powersave" and that initially seemed to help matters.
I figured it could be one of three things going wrong - a software related issue, a hardware issue with the phone or failing batteries. I installed [ROM][N910G/F][ODEX]* DQL1 * Multi-CSC, De-Bloat stock, Fast&Light[CUSTOM] and it was a while till anything happened but then once again - it shut down. So I don't see it being ROM related, I'd only added a couple of basic apps too, so I cant see it being a rogue app.
My last N910F had the EMMC failure and I recall that it would regularly freeze or lag heavily then crash and bootloop, but normally my phone just shuts down. I'm hoping that this means it's most likely battery issues, but it seems strange that all 4 batteries would fail within a 5 month period, especially as they were all on rotation. I even took to only charging them (in a Samsung external charging cradle) on an evening when the temperature was cooler. I've contacted both manufacturers but I know that Anker dont have any replacement batteries anymore, so I'm hoping Rav power will replace that faulty battery (that one started to swell a few days ago.
So, what do you fine fellows think is the likely issue that I'm encountering? I don't want to throw good money after bad and buy more batteries if it's likely that it's a phone issue, but I also don't want to get rid of the phone if I can get it working again.....
(I'd been running the Resurrection Remix Rom on Nougat for about 10 months. I went traveling 8 months ago so I didn't update the ROM as I it wasn't super stable at that point and I was happy how it was working - if it's not broke, dont fix it! But after a while I started to have issues and one of the batteries began to swell. I got rid of that one and switched between the other 3)
