Any suggestions on the free hotspot yet? I would pay for it but only 2 gig a month?! What a joke! I'm assuming still need root for it too. I have Sprint
Does WiFi tether still work? Try that

Does anyone know or heard of anyone getting busted by verizon for tetherig without paying for it? I just upgraded to a galaxy s3 and I tether to my nexus 7 via foxfi. I noticed that it uses up quite a bit of bandwidth as I use it at work to stream videos. I used about 22gb in 2 weeks with my phone and nexus combined. I didn't want to get busted so I signed up for their hotspot plan which I get for $24 due to my discount and its unlimited (thank god). But with their hotspot app my phone gets extremely hot and sucks the battery super fast while foxfi runs very cool and I noticed that I watched a episode and a half of breaking bad and it only went down from 87% down to like 82% that really impressed me. So I cancelled my hotspot plan and just use foxfi instead do you guys think verizon will come after me if I tether like around 10-20gb a month? I don't want to lose unlimited but I don't want to use their crappy hotspot app either. I could pay for the hotspot service and use foxfi anyways so they won't get me for not being subscribed to a hotspot plan but It seems pointless to pay them and not use their app when I can do it on my own for free. Any advice???

Verizon has no idea if you're tethering, no way to get caught. Use which ever app works best for you

That makes me feel so much better I really want to believe you but I'm kind of paranoid I might just pay them for the right to use it and use foxfi anyways lol do you also tether with them?

Well I wouldn't say they have no idea... if you go from no data usage to 100 GB in a month I believe they would start to question, however you are most likely pretty safe.
I just subscribed to it just to play it safe now I can do whatever I want with no worries only 24$ extra

It could be a feature not enabled in your plan. I would check there first
It's not part of my plan. I'm trying to do it "on the sly".
I was hoping I could get Wi-Fi tether to make the Nexus 4 appear as an access point, and not ad-hoc, but I haven't been able to get it to do that. Anyone else had luck?

Can anyone help?? I've looked everywhere. I can connect to the hotspot, just not to the internet. Same thing happens with the hotspot on my Galaxy Tab. Both are with ATT.

AT&T actively blocks teather if you don't pay for it. Not sure of a work around as they are blocking it from there end not the phones end. That said some of the thethering apps claim to be able to defeat this, the one Koush made, clockworkmod tether, comes to mind but it only has a 14 day free trial, $4.99 after that. It also requires a desktop client to be installed. Also is this plain AT&T or Straight Talk AT&T? Straight Talk limits you to 100 MB of data per day with a 2 GB cap. If you go over either they throttle you to 2G speeds for the rest of the month.
Regular ATT, not straight talk. Looks like the clockworkmod tether is usb only.....
Try WiFi tether for android.

Tried it.
possibly APN settings?
There is a tethering method that work with AT&T but I don't know how to bypass restricted T-Mobile hotspot tethering since its blocked. Any roms or ideas. Thanks

I can confirm that the Att method doesn't work with the t-mobile version. There's no tether_entitlement to change to 0 in the sqlite database. I can't wait for this to be figured out for us T-mo folks!

If you are trying to tether a PC and have purchased FoxFi you can use PDANet+ to USB tether. I know it's not wireless, but T-Mobile gives 2.5GB of free tether on the unlimited data plan and when I go over hot-spot data I just USB tether just fine.
Thanks for that info but I'd really like to find a more low-level solution if possible. :fingers-crossed: I'll keep it in mind if nothing pans out in foreseeable future.
I'm thinking of purchasing the LG G2 on T-Mobile. Can anyone confirm that free WiFi hotspot tethering works? Either through FoxFi or Custom ROM natively? I need it for my WiFi tablet and prefer not to pay extra for a tethering plan. Thanks!
AFAIK T-Mobile doesn't charge for tethering at all. Or at least they don't charge me. It just works out of the box stock. No root or anything. Unless you are on some old plan, I don't believe they charge on any of their new ones.

I have 500mb free with my plan. After that it gets blocked for my laptop but my tablets still connect and work perfect
Haha

Will I be charged if I turn on tethering without downloading any app? I don't have tethering included on my plan.

Shouldn't be. I'm on lp and have no issues. No app needed. Hooked right up.

It works without issue, since you got the device from Motorola and not Verizon, no edit to block the service.

I'm just unsure since I don't have tethering on my plan if it will charge me.

Definitely not or I would have had a huge bill past couple months. Use about 50 gig a month. 10 of that tether to multiple kids tablets and wife phone.
