There is a tethering method that work with AT&T but I don't know how to bypass restricted T-Mobile hotspot tethering since its blocked. Any roms or ideas. Thanks

I can confirm that the Att method doesn't work with the t-mobile version. There's no tether_entitlement to change to 0 in the sqlite database. I can't wait for this to be figured out for us T-mo folks!

If you are trying to tether a PC and have purchased FoxFi you can use PDANet+ to USB tether. I know it's not wireless, but T-Mobile gives 2.5GB of free tether on the unlimited data plan and when I go over hot-spot data I just USB tether just fine.
Thanks for that info but I'd really like to find a more low-level solution if possible. :fingers-crossed: I'll keep it in mind if nothing pans out in foreseeable future.

I'm about to switch back to verizon for the better network and was wondering if teathering would worknthe same as on my sprint hero.. I know that a lot of verizon devices have a button to teather stock and they want you to pay crazy prices for their service..
If I root a droid x can I tether on the down low? ... Thanks for any help.
Yeah you can use wireless tether or barnacle wifi tether. I believe there is a mod for the stock tether app to use it for free but never bothered trying it as the two I mentioned work fine.

Team Black Hat has a patch for the stock 3G WiFi App... Works perfectly.

thanks guys big help, so if i get this right.. the same as sprint- verizon will have no idea if i am teathering or not..?
They might be able to guess by the amount of data you use, but I use insane amounts of data and have yet to receive any complaints or notices of excessive usage.

If you wanna tether through your USB, pdanet works pretty well, though I think it's more hassle than a WiFi tether.

It could be a feature not enabled in your plan. I would check there first
It's not part of my plan. I'm trying to do it "on the sly".
I was hoping I could get Wi-Fi tether to make the Nexus 4 appear as an access point, and not ad-hoc, but I haven't been able to get it to do that. Anyone else had luck?

Can anyone help?? I've looked everywhere. I can connect to the hotspot, just not to the internet. Same thing happens with the hotspot on my Galaxy Tab. Both are with ATT.

AT&T actively blocks teather if you don't pay for it. Not sure of a work around as they are blocking it from there end not the phones end. That said some of the thethering apps claim to be able to defeat this, the one Koush made, clockworkmod tether, comes to mind but it only has a 14 day free trial, $4.99 after that. It also requires a desktop client to be installed. Also is this plain AT&T or Straight Talk AT&T? Straight Talk limits you to 100 MB of data per day with a 2 GB cap. If you go over either they throttle you to 2G speeds for the rest of the month.
Regular ATT, not straight talk. Looks like the clockworkmod tether is usb only.....
Try WiFi tether for android.

Tried it.
possibly APN settings?
I just rooted the G2(vzw) and I tried 3 different tethering apps from the playstore and none work. It doesnt even broadcast a signal.
On barnacle it says "WIFI: Could not sed ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Operation not supported on trasnport endpoint"
I'm not a heavy data user, but I do need to tether since there is no ISP in my area (just 56k ('yes i said that) and satellite which is ridiculously expensive).
The Att version g had a built on tethering app did u freeze or uninstall that if you did unfreeze it..I just turned tethered on my g2

I have the verizon verison therefore if I try the built in app I get the pop-up saying I need the subscription. I'm grandfathered into the unlimited data.
Same here. No go just yet. Usb tethering works (Fox fi) but no wireless tether yet. (Verizon unlimited here)

I'm thinking of purchasing the LG G2 on T-Mobile. Can anyone confirm that free WiFi hotspot tethering works? Either through FoxFi or Custom ROM natively? I need it for my WiFi tablet and prefer not to pay extra for a tethering plan. Thanks!
AFAIK T-Mobile doesn't charge for tethering at all. Or at least they don't charge me. It just works out of the box stock. No root or anything. Unless you are on some old plan, I don't believe they charge on any of their new ones.

Hi everyone,
As the title says, is there a way to tether with giffgaff. I don't think the £12 goodybag includes tethering so I tried using various root apps and a vpn but no luck. Does anyone know of a way or should I just give up and switch to threes One plan? I have a nexus 4, rooted running 4.3.1 slimrom. One other thing, I am looking to WIFI tether, not USB. Thanks in advance
Probably not the most helpful answer but tethering worked fine for me on 4.3.1 on giffgaff (£10 goodybag). You are right in that the £12 goodybag doesn't include tethering. Try looking at the T-Mobile tethering threads and the various apps like barnacle tether for more help.

I've tried that barnacle app already. It's fine though, I just gave up and decided to go with threes one plan, my sim should arrive in a few days and it includes tethering

Are you using a factory unlocked phone, or one from a network? Id say network. In that case it won't work as they will probably have blocked it. I made a mistake of buying a phone from 3 rooting, changing carrier but tethering would not work. My factory unlocked phone allows tethering on any network wireless or wired
