Dirt collected S8 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi
I recently purchased s8 and loving every bit of it.
However one thing that bugs me is the dirt and dust being accumulated in the slightest gap present between the display and panel behind it especially at the top and bottom
Does anyone have the same problem??

Yep, happens every other day to me too. I just hold it under a stream of water, usually cleans it out!

Do you think it is safe to do that? I know the phone is water resistant. :silly:

It should be fine, and so far so good for me! You might be unable to charge for a little bit though, if the phone detects that the usb port is wet it'll stop charging. So do it on a full charge!

Confirmed!
I can not tell how high pressure can be but the water coming from the sink is ok. Takes more time tho.
It would be best to use a hand shower and one of the streams but I am afraid that the water will leak into the device .
If someone is brave enough or have a test model in home he might test it :good:

SmartQ Z1. A stupid question.

How is this thing waterproof when the head phone jack is just... right THERE open to anything. I mean that seems like a fairly big deal and an indication that I might not want to toss this thing in the tub.
Has anyone actually tested their Z1 by going swimming or something?

The paper that came with my said ip57 and said to NOT swim with it. Says ok at room temperature in shallow water.

IPX7 says immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Its does say not to take in the shower, but their web site certainly SHOWS it being dunked and someone swimming with it. Strange

I'm a watch guy. That said I don't ever swim with any watch. Even the ones I have with 1000 ft rating. I'm just going to go about normal life. It's $100 so if I happen to soak it to death I will be forced to decide how much the watch was needed.
I did see one guy post he wore his while giving the kids a bath and remembered afterwards. He had no problems.

I've taken a shower with mine many times and mine has no plug in the headphone jack. I've had no problems.

I just wanted to get some idea of what I was dealing with before I did something fatal to my new toy. Appreciate the input.

[Q] Plastic Side crack

Hello,
I have noticed a few days ago a crack on the side just above the stylus house. I never dropped the phone and it is fully protected by a leather case.
Any one had such bad experience and how managed with ùsamsung"

Most cracks happen often due to pressure exerted onto the device.
I can't point any reasons out, but you could have hit it against something hard in your pocket, or sat on it. As Samsung adores the plastic material, this is prone to happen.
It is a problem even on the previous models. I just found my S3 has a crack like that next to the charging port.

Thanks for your messages.
I opened a ticket at Samsung to see what they are going to say.

I showed mine with the same crack to Samsungs Repair Center and they agreed to a repair free of charge.
Try it!

That is a very good news. I'll try who knows...
This can also happen due to rapid temperature changes and strain.

This is not the first time I see someone complaining about bezel crack, you either live with it and ignore it or try Samsung repair, good luck.

Rumor about the hole of the earpiece! Waterproof Rumor!

Browsing other Xperia Z2 forum, a user asked about the water resistance and input headset, since it has no external insulation, as covers. One reviewer said the author of the following topic:
"Check if you don't see a screen light in the hole, there were some not sealed examples problems.. it should be dark when the phone is unlocked. Would help to make sure it is sealed."
This actually makes sense?
I tested mine and when I turn on the device screen I can see light through the hole of the headset!
Has anyone tested to see if it makes sense?
I haven't heard about this, but for the screen gap issue Sony said you could take your phone to a repair center for a water resistance test, I'm sure they would do this for you if you are worried about it.
I see the light of the screen through the jack and I plunged my phone several times in the water, no problem.

As I said though if you are worried about the headphone plug, they should be able to test that for water resistance as well.

I can see the light too, no water has passed so far (at least nothing that effected the phone). Not sure if a straight way to the digitizer does any good.. Like is the digitizer waterproof?
This sounds strange but put the hole to your mouth and such on it like a straw then plug it with your tongue. If the suction stays then your good and waterproof.

I can also see light and phone is waterproof. And its not a hole, its just thin plastic leaking light through itself

I was very relieved! The people have to be careful with things that speak the internet! This sometimes ends up becoming epic proportions and great discomfort to the users of the device!
Actually I noticed that there is a thin plastic near the light!

No no, I have a gap between the speaker and the edge of the screen, and even another gap between the touchscreen and the edge, no problem.
Note that I have not tried to immerse the phone more than 30 cm deep

I do not know if you saw, but it has a huge discussion about the water resistance of the device with those gaps!
If you can take pictures would help a lot! A macro photo of good resolution!

Waterproof test

Thanks to Handtec my z3c arrived in Munich just in time for the second weekend of the Oktoberfest. I couldn't resist to test waterproofness right on Saturday .... Just wanted to share. [emoji41]
Btw. I experienced the volume of the phone speaker during calls quite low. Hard to understand outside in the street even with volume at max. Did you have same issues?
Thanks.
Probably because the speakers/microphone were still wet.
Sony says this about it on their website:
If either the speaker or microphone get wet, their function may be affected until all the water has completely dried.

Well I specifically did not crop the right part of the screen [emoji41]
Reg. speaker volume this was on Saturday. Should be long dry by now. I'll ask Sony directly. Thanks.

Beer has a ton of sugar which will dry and fill in your speaker grill, you need to wash your phone with water (don't run it under the sink, pressure could be too high), put it in a bowl of warm water, dunk it in and out a few times, shake it off and check the volume.

You need to rinse it off, if you hadn't before. Beer will form a crust, and is sticky. Use distilled water.
Thanks. Figured it out myself... Although I had the device tapped into clear water before and after the test. I used a drop water several times.
Seems to be OK now.
The looks of my friends where phenomenal - worth it!
Speaker Volume after Beer and Rinse -lol
Now that phone is clean , can you easily hear speaker calls outside in medium noise environment?
When playing Music through Speakers, do you notice a lot of vibration in the Body of the phone and lack of bass.
If so ask SONY to check for speakers being "out of phase".
Is this phone louder than all the Samsung Galaxy and Note phones ?
It should be ....
Thanks.

really?? running water from a faucet on this phone is a bad idea? I thought that was one of the selling points.

Depends on the faucet, people don't realize that a jet/stream of water can be of a significantly higher level of pressure then submersing the phone in a meter of water. The z1c is rated to withstand a low pressure water stream, most sink faucets will exceed this rating when fully open.

Out of curiosity, what was your solution? No pun intended.
I haven't dunked my phone in beer (yet), but I'm finding the speakerphone volume to be incredibly lower during calls and I haven't done anything (too weird) to it. Is there some kind of setting you found, or did you dunk it into some coffee? What kind of coffee?
Well I repeated the beer challenge the past weekend. It is definitely that you loose sound while it's still wet and due to sugar afterwards. However, you can clean it up easily. Just put a drop of water into the speakers, wait a few minutes and suck it out with a piece of toilet paper. Works fine.
However I am still not completely happy with the volume/sound of both speakers. Because of a lack of comparison and time I did nothing so far. Maybe I'll write Sony after some more testing.
I have an iP 5 from work. However the sound is definitely better and louder during calls. Anybody else compared these two?
Thanks

You do know that Sony have renforced corners for drop so do you think the frame will bent.. And the glass can't be bent without heated to a certain temperature... And if you want someone to run a bend test please offer your device and for sure someone will do a bend test for you.. This is not iPhone forum people have better things to do here...

Junior member does not (always) mean an illiterate blab with no practical knowledge, mate Play nice
That being said, my Z5P did bend. It's quite usual with large metal phones and enough pressure applied. It was only bent on the Power Button side, so I assume it twisted in my pocket somehow. ( see attachments )
Applied moderate heat to the side (no idea if it helped but it didnt hurt ) and slowly bent it back. There is a very minor deformation of the steel where the bent was, but its all good.
Sony responded quite well to the issue. Advised me to switch off the phone and not charge it due to increased chance of overheating and fire, and told me to bring it to a service so they can inspect the culprit.
I decided not to, since I don't wanna go without this beauty for a second If it keeps happening, I'll take it back tho.
Keep in mind it took an immense amount of force to bend it back, so I am not worried. Its a very rigid phone. Just not immune to force

With enough force you can bend anything... It's a common sense.. I maybe look new to xda forum as I am using taptalk and it takes my Gmail login as I just moved to android few months back... I was on Xda developer since the smartphones begin to take shape... If you don't know XDA was making ROM's for Windows MOBILE Smartphone OS....

Maybe it wouldn't bend if using a devilcase aluminium bumper. I use one on my Z5 and just ordered a Z5P (for the 4K) and if I like it more than my Z5 I will order a devilcase for it too.
They are very sturdy and the precise fitting is essential for me.
