Apparently there is hardware support and band 20 is unlockable - For Mi5, some users say certain hardware components are missing, others say that all hardware is there - from RF filters, RF components, SAW filters, etc. and that only RF calibration (software) is missing. The thread is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/progress-trying-to-unlock-bands-t3337476
Can anyone confirm? Any schematics for Redmi 4 Available?

First of all, are you in an area that is covered by that 4G band?
Second, have you tried to change the NVRAM settings?

b20 band is one of few LTE band. Not supporting b20 does NOT mean that your phone does NOT support entire LTE standard. Just b20 band.
I'm everywhere and everytime in 4G with Vodafone (in Italy), only some carriers use b20, the phone support 4G.
In my coutry cariers uses mostly only 800MHz (B20) and 900MHz (B8) so I triend to unlock it. And I can confirm you can't unlock LTE bands via NV Browser on our phone! While I was testing it, I bricked my phone so I don't recomend to do this for newbies.
PS: My phone is fine now I got him back from the silicon heaven
I tried changing the nvram, too. But it does not work... you can disable more bands with the nvram value but not enable anything ....sadly Dunno if this is hardware restriction, modem firmware or other software.
If there's a way to unlock band 20 (800 mhz) please let us know

i spent part of tonight emailing back and forth with Huawei's customer support. You would have to scroll through the public emails I posted and their public responses. What I don't get is why NO reporter NO journalist NO ONE in tech thought to ask Huawei straight out if there is ANOTHER model coming out for the US market? NOTHING I've read talked abou it, so, I asked them, and they responded:
The current model is NOT US-carrier compatible for the following reasons (quoted from their email response):
Huawei Mobile
Thank you for your mail.
Huawei Ascend Mate7 specification is the same, but the 4G frequency is not the same, it support 4G LTE FDD Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28(Aphase), It will be released in the United States.
I went on to ask them when the US-compatible version would be available and they said the following:

Thank you for your mail.
Huawei Ascend Mate7 have a version can work in the United States, but there is no release.

But with all those LTE frequencies, doesn't it kind of have to be compatible? AT&T uses band 2, 4 and 17 so this phone should work on AT&T LTE since it supports band 4.

Don't waste your time ask Huawei service team.. They doesnt know the phone much than you.
There is 2GB+16GB ROM version FDD-LTE band: B1/B3 1800MHz/2100MHz
3GB RAM+32GB ROM version FDD-LTE band: B1/B3/B7 1800MHz/2100MHz/2600MHz
T-Mobile FDD-LTE: 1700/2100 ?
There are only B1/B3/B7 now because the MIIT(Ministry of Industry and Information Technology,Chinese Telecom manage department) limited.
You will enjoy more bands after un-limited-- Need 2-3 months since Chinese FDD-LTE marketing develop slowly.
Yes, Need flash NEW ROM un-limited then.

Guys,
Is it sufficient to select right bands in LG G2 Service menu 3845#*801# to make it work overseas?
Or only modem/radio firmware flash can switch bands?
I do know, the carrier I want to use phone with has different bands, than TMO in US.
And I do see these bands in service menu on my LG.
I guess, it’s probably a lame question, everybody knows an answer to, so it kinda difficult to google out…
To mods: I’m not even sure, if this question right for Troubleshooting section...
The g2 variants have different modems, 3G bands are universal, 4G not.

Ok. Could you clarify a bit, please?
On mine 801, LTE Band selection menu shows way more bands, than 801 officially supports.
Does 801 really support all of them?
Do "g2 variants" with different modems (i.e. different hardware) show different set of bands (and really support them all as well)?
And this one too:
"3G bands are universal, 4G not"
Do you mean 4G same freq. bands (in different countries) are in fact different in something else (encoding or whatever)?

I’d really appreciate, if you can point where I can read about it myself.

I mean that there are hardware limitations and the modem (hardware) is different from one country to another, so from one variant to another. In service menu you can see a lot of things but you cant change nothing in frq selection. You can use your phone all over the world in 3G (gsm umts) mode but not in 4G (lte) mode.

Make sense…
I do remember some sort of discussions about changing frequencies via flushing different modem firmware. Tho, not even sure, which phone it was about. I guess, could be possible if hardware supports it.
From the other hand, it might be cheaper for manufacturer to solder preprogrammed chip/module to support fixed set of bands…
Thank again!
And differents antennas

Various websites confirm its compatible with LTE band 17. My other phone connects to it while in my house, but the Zenfone will mostly connect to HSPA+, or sometimes LTE band 2. I cannot get it to stay connected to LTE unless I get into town or on the highway. (Actually as I'm typing, it switched to LTE band 2, but in awhile it will go back to HSPA)
If I root is there any way to unlock band 17? I'm in the US and my carrier runs off AT&T towers. I got this phone specifically because band 17 reaches far off places much better but I am unable to use it.
Edit: I just realized the model number in the Android settings is "asus_Z012DA" and that apparently is not a US variant. I didn't know about the different variants at all. Am I out of luck?

For the time being yes you are. There is a way to unlock LTE bands on Qualcomm devices, but it seems ASUS has a fail safe built into kernel preventing it at the moment. If there is ever a custom rom developed for your phone then it maybe possible to unlock band 17. Until then no. I have been trying on my Zenfone 3 Ultra. Got as far as entering in the values for the bands I want and when I reboot it resets them to default. You can read up on it here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/help-putting-phone-usb-diag-mode-t3571627

Yeah I realize that now. Even though I'm stuck with my phone, I still can't find the z012dc for sale anywhere. Practically no seller online lists which variant it is. In fact, after a few hours of research, I never even knew there was specifically variants.

Whoa thanks man. I'll keep checking back and maybe I'll try it myself. Seems you guys are close.
I must say though, this isn't a complete deal breaker, though I am stuck with this phone anyway. The Hspa network is actually FASTER than LTE band 17 in my house. I'm just afraid if I travel somewhere and only band 17 is available I might run into some trouble. But then again, 3g or Hspa might still be able to connect.
As you might know, the Mi 6 was announced today. The specs look great for the price (see http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/new-product/mobile-phone/xiaomi-mi6-news-release-date-price-features-specifications-3653263/) and I thought I finally found the phone I really wanted.
But then the old story hit me again. No support for LTE band 20. As I live in Germany this means no matter what provider I have, I will be affected with less LTE coverage.
So I created this thread to gather any news that involve the possibility and efforts of unlocking the LTE band 20 on the Mi 6.
I hope there are maybe similarities with the ongoing efforts of unlocking the bands of the Mi 5 (http://en.miui.com/thread-242834-1-1.html or here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/progress-trying-to-unlock-bands-t3337476).
When the Mi 6 is shipped, I hope this will get some attention and we may find a way to unlock it together. :fingers-crossed:
I have the Mi Note Pro and I never spotted anyone succeeding in unlocking band 20.
I live in France and band 20 is one of the 3 main bands but I never suffered any need for band 20. I even had a Sony Z5 premium which had all French bands and I had to switch to 3g because it wouldn't receive well when I am in bed.
Depending on your carrier if you have just another band and live in a city, not having band 20 is not a deal breaker in my humble opinion.
If you really need it I wouldn't wait for sure for a way to unlock band 20.
Mi6 can work with AT&T network?

Yes that is a valid point. As I live in Berlin I won't have any problems here. But since I travel around a lot for work countryside coverage would be a good benefit. But as you mentioned band 20 won't stop me from getting the Mi6.

The most active in unlocking lte bands are people in the OnePlus forum as far as I know.

But still shouldn't the network setup be kept stock... I mean why waster resources on a freaking modem... When u can divert them to something else....
And if I am not wrong Qualcomm gives the chipset/modem with all the bands unlocked.. quite like apple .. hence making s truly global phone

You could say the same for Oneplus's global and China variant. They must have their reasons. I'm sure everyone, let alone, Xiaomi, know that they don't benefit for locking the bands. So, there's no point speculating on why and rather to just accept the obvious that it was not for the US market or any other country that It's not being sold officially.
Can anyone verify this actually works? Got this phone with the intention of having better coverage from band 12, but i've never seen lte discovery show anything but band 4.
I'm on the stock rom w/ magisk, anyone have advice?
Hi,
Can you help me to understand the difference between th band 12 and band 4? I am green to this.
Thanks advance!

In short, band 12 is a low frequency signal. The towers can broadcast huge coverage areas with the low frequency at the cost lower speed than their band 4 coverage areas. Band 12 for is great at penetrating buildings with thick walls.
Very few phones support this freq on T-mobile and I was hoping the mini could do it.

Are you testing it in the same place(s) you've had other phones show band 12 on LTE discovery? Officially it should work as of the Jan 2017 update. I'm pretty sure I have had it show band 12 when I was on stock (not rooted). I don't have a way to verify this now as my Mini is on LOS which currently does not support band 12 nor Wi-Fi calling. It's also my "secondary" phone until I get time to return it to stock (or LOS gets that functionality).
Sent from my Robin using XDA Labs
@googletermsofservice,
Thank you very much! Are there many service provider offer band 12 now? I mean, many providers such T-Mobile, ATT etc all offer band 12?

Does your phone stay on LTE when making a call (VOLTE)? If yes, the phone is working on band 12.
According to these website, the A7M should work with Band 12 and VOLTE & WFC:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...ini-t-mobile-volte-december-security-patches/
http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones
You need to make sure your phone is on at least the Dec update, if not newer.
Spectrum gateway is pretty reliable. I would use them as a first resource when considering a non-Tmo phone. I am supposed to receive this phone tomorrow. Will update if B12/VOLTE/WFC works...
I got the phone today. I can confirm that both VOLTE and WiFi calling work on TMobile after installing the update from the ZTE website here: https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7mini#support
