Very often I get a 4G signal showing on my A7 while my friend's iPhone 6+ shows LTE on the same network.
Sometimes my phone shows 4G LTE, but not nearly as often. And when it shows 4G, it's definitely slower.
Are there settings I can change on the A7 to fix this?
Also my A7 never shows 3G, only 4G LTE, 4G, and E. Is that normal?

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for your main issue... But it sounds like your device is not the G variant?
You can use something like LTE Discovery to verify the type of signal you're getting. I'm guessing 4G refers to HSPA+ in your case.

I'm new to the Android thing so please don't kill me for the stupid question...
While I ran WinMO, I always had the 3G icon....Now on droid (coredroid latest version) The icon will switch between "E", "H", and "3G". Whats the difference between them and what do they mean?
My carrier is T-Mobile US. I was told by T-Mobile that they now longer have a 3G network, even though my HD2 is a 3G phone, it will get 4G speeds....

Since the HD2 isn't a 4G phone, "H" is the almost equivalent; I think it's 3.75 or something like that. So, when you see the H, highest "letter", you are getting faster than 3G speed.
T-MO doesn't even have a 4G network, strictly speaking. But even if it had, your HD2 wouldn't be able to support it.
The max you can get is indeed 3.75G or HSPA, with up to 14/6 mbps down/upload speeds respectively. This is shown by the 'H' icon.
The 3G icon should refer to a UMTS connection, which is considerably slower than H. Some builds however also use the 3G icon when actually you're on a HSPA connection. This is just the icon, the connection is always as fast as possible.
E stands for Edge, an elder (and less battery consuming) protocol with much slower transfer speeds.

If T-Mobile doesn't have 4G, then why do they sell two 4G phones and advertise 4G? Does Sprint not have 4G,either? They do have 4G, it's just that some areas are not utilizing it yet.
No, they don't have 4G. They claim they have, and the speeds are faster than a typical HSPA network, but it's not 4G.
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscent...doesnt_have_4g_and_theres_no_santa_claus.html
I'm not sure on Sprint, but at first they sure falsely advertised their network as 4G. They may have upgraded it to true 4G by now, again, I'm not sure.
Edit: nope, all carriers are still lying about their 4G network.
If its not 4G, they why are they all calling it 4g?
And if 4G is non existent since no carriers have it, then wouldn't HSPA really be 4G?
I don't get this. So Evo users don't get 4G?
Okay third time, no it's not 4g it's an upgraded kind of 3G. I have even included a link about it, click it and read some.
The other day i was at the T-mobile store playing with the display phones and I noticed that the phones Said 4G when they were on the internet My phone says 3G when i am surfing the net
Is there anyway for it to say 4g?

depends on what phone you have. most android phones (like the HTC Sensation, mytouch 4G, samsung galaxy s 4G) have t-mobile's 4G, or HSPA+ network supported on the phones. while other phones, can only get up to 3G, because 4G is not supported on the phone.
all the phones that are tmobile 4G enabled: http://explore.t-mobile.com/4G-phones?cm_mmc_o=Vzbp+mwzygt*-czyEwll*4bpCdAEEwk*4bpCdAEEwk#prev-phone-group
HSPA can't be differentiated from HSPA+ by Android. Your phone will show the same icon for both. If the icon is made to show "4G" - it'll show "4G", if not - it'll show the standard icon, "3G" or "H". It has nothing to do with the speed that the phone is utilizing. Please search the forum and read some previous answers on the subject.
Im confused about the maximum speeds the nexus 4 can handle, the terminology for it and the speeds the carriers offer
In theory the nexus 4 can reach up to 42 Mbps right? but thats still 3g? ive read about 3.5g but does it actually exists or its just marketing? when the phone displays an "H" that's HSDPA ??? HSDPA is still 3g? my galaxy nexus here in germany using vodafone most of the time displays an "H" and my plan has 7.2 mbps of speed but ive seen some phones displaying "H+" im confused , can someone enlighten me?
Also whats the point of google advertising the nexus can have 42 Mbps speeds if pretty much every carrier maxes up at 21 Mbps :/ (at least here in Germany)
The Nexus 4 is a 3G device capable of doing Dc hspa+ up to 42Mbps... If your carrier do not support it then you will fall back to hspa+ 21Mbps...
And for the 3g and the little h on the status bar only means that your are connected to 3G and the little h is when data is transmitting....

But ive seen my phone sometimes saying 3g on the status bar, that means i dont have 3g signal in thart moment? or maybe that the phone its switching from edge (2g) to 3g?
If you see the 3G icon in the status bar that mean you have a 3G signal... And when you see the H that means 3G data is being transferred...

It's just telling you what kind of data connection is available.
The N4 just shows "H" while some other phones will show "H+" when connected to HSPA+. Custom ROMs will add it.

GPRS
EDGE
3G
HSDPA (10)
HSDPA+ (21)
DC-HSDPA (42)
LTE (100)
This is how I always saw it.
But in reality, most places 'on average' see LTE and DC-HSDPA share similar speeds on downstream even though LTE should be much faster , whereas upload is always higher on LTE.

I noticed the other day that for some reason I am not getting 4G on this phone other than after a reboot. The moment I connect to wifi or go from a 4g to 3g area, it never goes back to 4g. Is there something I can do to fix this? My galaxy nexus and s4 all have 4g during these times as well.
I got a Nexus 4 after trading away my Blackberry Z10 which I have been using for the past year or so and I rooted it yesterday and flashed a couple of LTE-capable radio zips. Unfortunately, the best modem only shows 2 bars out of 4 when on 4G LTE when I am indoors and at most only 3 out of 4 bars when I am outside.
I did a speedtest outdoors and I am only getting 10-15 mbps at most which is not significantly different from what I got with just HSPA+. I used to own a Motorola Atrix HD LTE and I got speeds of over 20 mbps on that phone before it got stolen (similarly with my Blackberry z10).
Does anyone know if this is normal for the device? Or is it just my network is bad?
Thanks.

The bars are not mobile data. That's your voice side. The E, 3g, H, H+ etc is your mobile data.
LTE on these things is only band 4 and is not officially sanctioned. If your carrier doesn't use band 4 for LTE, you'll never see it.
Are you a T-Mobile customer?
i constantly get 62mbps download speeds in my area, lte. your data speed is influenced by how busy the network is, and how far from the tower you are on. oh, and btw, i get hspa+ speed around 40-41mbps download. just because your h/h+ speeds are similar to your lte, it means nothing. it means thats the results of how busy your network is and how far from you the tower is. there are places that i get higher h+ speeds than lte. but your lte upload speed will almost always be much more than h+.

in my part of southern brooklyn(manhattan beach), it doesnt make any difference which i use for download speed. but for uploads its a huge difference. hspa+ upload speeds of 3-3.5mbps, lte upload speeds of 22mbps. also, i get a full hour more sot on lte than on hspa+
Just curiosity but which lte hybrid modem are everyone using? I cant figure which one 'are the best' like you said OP. Simms22 is absolutly right. Lte connection and speed depends on your local area. There are some people out there who hasnt lte connection at all (like me)
I use the older 33/84 hybrid radio
