Verizon V20 update rolling out.. 14B - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Appears to just be latest Google security updates.. (April 2017).. 700mb or so.. not much info from Verizon or LG on this.

Doesn't look like the kernel changed but maybe a new baseband.
Can someone try and snag a system image of it?

Just a heads up, the latest verizon update 14b patches the DirtySanta exploit. But it's not a huge deal, one can simply downgrade back to 12a or 13a with the kdz files and uppercut, then gain root access (I just did this, works fine).

Other than that exploit patch are there any reasons not to update?
Thanks.

Yeah, it would be nice if we could get a system image of the 14b. Don't have a clue how though

Guide?

I replied to your other thread... https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/help-rooting-lg-v20-verizon-14b-software-t3630575
Download Uppercut, LG UP, and USB drivers from here:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum.x...-t3511295/amp/
Download the 12a kdz from here: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-vs995-firmwares/
Install USB drivers to PC. Turn phone off. Hold volume up while phone is off and plug in USB cable to PC. Turn off antivirus stuff including Windows defender. Run Uppercut according to directions from thread and using the 12a kdz. When Uppercut loads, make sure to select "upgrade". Then you're good.
It won't wipe your data so when your phone reboots it will have a force close panic attack. What you do from here varies, but you're now on 12a which is exploit-able. What I would do is push past the force closes and go into settings to factory reset. Then let your phone do its thing. When it's back to set up, just bypass the setup as quick as possible and put the phone into airplane mode - this will keep the phone from trying to download Verizon bloatware (dtignite) and updates as this happens regardless of entering your account info in or not. Make sure you enable USB debugging and verify ADB is functioning and you can do the exploit from here.

Cant seem to root.

Ive tried to root my phone and cant seem to get it to root. I have 4.4.2 version VS98026A kernel 3.4.0 perf g95fa932. I firsted installed united drivers, enabled debugging, put phone on internet/ethernet, and allowed unknown sources. Then:
I tried Kingo root first. It failed. Tried several times, it said my phone was connected, but when I clicked root, the program got stuck in a loop.
I then tried ioroot25. After clicking root, it wold get to the initial prompt, I pressed a key to continue the phone wold restart and there'd be a greed robot with his gut open and a red exclamation. After sitting awhile, the phone would restart and then after trying again, the same thing would happen.
I then tried towelroot. I went to towelroot.com, downloaded the file, renamed it tr.apk... opened it, installed it, clicked make it rain, and then it said my phone wasnt supported.
What program should I be using, and can anyone assist?
THanks. I apologize if I havnt dont things correctly, I'm very new to this. I appreciate any help.
Did you do every step using ioroot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232 follow this thread
Step 2 doesn't happen. It says something about damean tools, restarts my phone and a green robot with his gut open shows up. And the program essentially terminates.

I followed the instructions and did the initial things listed in my first post, and my phone does say im connected as an installer... but how do i verify that i am connected as a adb device?
Personally, i would kdz back to stock, then use towleroot. Make it rain!
As stated in my first post, towel root isn't working. Says phone not supported.
It seems that ioroot25 is not compatible with 26A. Has anyone had any experience with stomp root?

If so then just flash a suitable kdz for rooting and root your device follow the steps for back to stock after root and you are good to go (hopefully)

Make sure you flash the right Version (there is a d802 and a d802T !) And the right storage version

ThrThee issue im having is a master reset was done and i need to recover data lost. If i reflash, i run the risk of writing over that unused space and losing that data permanently .
I don't understand hat you mean. You can easily backup your data on your computer and then use the flash tool and then put the data back on your pone

A master reset was done, the data was deleted. So i have to run recovery software to scan tge hardrive. If i start using space on the hard drive, i run the risk of overwriting it and losing it permanently.

Recovery software deep scans for raw content and deleted data, so thats why i cant flash, as flashing could write over data thats alrwady been deleted. I must do a root then scan the phone. Thats my only option, to root the current firmware.
aaah now I understand your point. So the scan software needs root access... mhm. Which phone model do you have?

Officialy unlocked H815 can install (ota) updates

Just uninstall root, remove SuperuserSU (yes pro and standard) and reboot. OTA update then even started installation but ended with an strange error during install. Before removing SuperSU it wouldn't even install. Just boot back into GUI and tell me something like "rooting suspicion. Can not update".
LG Bridge installs Updates just perfectly fine! Then boot into TWRP install SuperSu and finish!
So you can use lg bridge to update if you have unlocked bootloader, root and twrp recovery?
Just tried now, TWRP recovery doesn't remain.
Flash TWRP again. Your are unlocked. What stops you?
Awesome! I'd like to read someone confirming this and i might unlock too
I am unlocked and had root/twrp on 10b. OTA wouldn't go through so plugged it in and LG bridge flashed in download mode. Lost root and twrp but just put them both back. Simple. Confirmed.

Everything looks good now, after update, but only getting error message: "Unfortunately MirrorLink has stopped" ( 2 times during boot).

To bad. Sorry to hear that! Isnt' it supposed to work with all brands? And doesn't it depend much more on the maker of the car hifi then the car maker? Honda IS a member of the Open Automotive Alliance (http://www.openautoalliance.net/#section_members).
Hifi that should work: Sony XAV-602BT
Can't you just uninstall LG Mirrorlink and install whatever works. You are rooted, right?`Nevertheless this is off topic now. I recommend opening a new thread "MirrorLink on LG"

But this means "dirty" flash of a new ROM. How to make "clean" flash with LG bridge? Thanx.
Unlocked Bootloader. (You DO have a international version H815, don't you?) TWRP flash su. Done.
Afaik there is a way to unlock the T-mobile Version, I am not sure though.
No sense in buying anything else as there is NO other way to unlock the bootloader.

Anyone tried LG Bridge with 10f? Is there a new firmware for the international H815 available at all?
Send from outer space using telepathy
I think the newest available OS software for the H815 is 10E, which started rolling out just recently.
I think that the slightly older 10F was for the Australian handset (H815T).

"New" (01.09.2015) Software version here is called V10d-EUR-XX. After I checked manually I was offered to OTA. I connected the device to PC instead, fired up LG Bridge, which offered the same software 10d Version. Installed successfully (all the annoying sounds are back) and fastbooted twrp (adb reboot bootloader; fastboot boot TWRP2870.img). Let TWRP install supersu (just hit CANCEL; then REBOOT System and exit TWRP by slide to install). Back in GUI/ROM install SuperSU from PlayStore. Sadly I do have to decrypt to re-flash Xposed Framework. For me I have to decrypt first! Will work, but time consuming…..
Annoying problem that sim card will not be recognized after each boot is back.
Stagefright is fixed! At least that! [emoji23]
Yeah, there's some shenanigans with the version numbers. Like legit 10D (build.prop) still showed 10C in Settings.
And supposedly this new 10E (build.prop) shows as 10D in Settings.
The versioning is a mess, and I don't understand what the hell LG is doing.
How does LG OTA determine if you are using the latest firmware? Is it based on the IMEI (region) of your device or they check your current firmware and compare it with the latest version
I'm asking because I flashed a 10D to my TWN region phone and was wondering if would still receive future OTA updates

Lg v20 h910 kdz?

Hello, I was searching for KDZ and was able to stumble into this model LG V20 H910PR.

Yes but its pointless without radio. BTW when I say radio I'm talking about cell service. You will get no service and its impossible to fix while in the stock state. That's why its pointless

Yes im on at&t and have had no issues with data, text, or calling. my damn watch still wont sync to my phone but that was a prior issue as well. i scoured the internet for everything i could get my hands on and what i received was a bunch of guesses mostly lol. so i modified the h918 lgup dll to allow me to flash my h910. it accepted the h910pr software without issues. other than being back on a locked boot-loader with no way out in sight. if you can deal with a rare instance of a notification being in spanish then go for it. ask and ill post my tools folder somewhere, so you can try the exact versions of lgup i used and the tweaked dll

okay, uploading at 600kb/s :/ ill edit this post with the link when its done. just install lgup and the lg mobile drivers, then paste this lgup folder over the lgup folder in your program files. what ive done is used components from different version of lgup and renamed the h918.dll to lgcommon.dll and placed it in a common folder, then created an h910 folder as well. then put the phone in download mode and lgup will recognize it as an h910 but will allow you to flash the h910pr.kdz. it was a simple little hack together that anyone can replicate. maybe someone could write up a good tutorial on it.

hmm hadn't realized the h910/918/915 were all the same. i only knew about the 918 being the same. does it use the same mobile bands as att? i guess ill give it a try.
With the stock firmware installed, they must use the same frequencies, or the FCC would have to test them separately.
As far as I know the H915 (In addition to being the Canadian model) is also the AT&T Go Phone. So it is to AT&T was the MSXXX (for example MS631 (Metro) and H631 (identical phone with T-Mobile firmware) are to MetroPCS / T-Mobile.
When I had MetroPCS, I would flash T-Mobile firmware because they usually got the updates quicker than Metro did.
In this case it looks like LG made generic GSM/LTE model for the H910/H915/H918. What is funny is that their carrier free phone US996 is different.
This weekend I plan on flashing H918 since I use T-Mobile, and then I can root without having this effed up bootloader.
On a different note, I 100% agree with @12MaNy that this thread does not belong here.

Have you tried: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/uppercut-lgup-loader-g5-variants-t3511295
I have not found a phone yet that can't be spoofed with it...
honestly now that ive seen that post, i had mistakenly thought the version of lgup i was using had been patched WITH LGuppercut. thank you for correcting me!
have been messing with uppercut. not finding any way to "spoof" anything.
edited again- luckily i had already gotten att to warranty the phone for a defect it had, but trying to flash h915 using the port 41 trick has officially bricked my phone. IT does absolutely nothing now. when plugged in to a computer windows recognizes as a qualcom usb qloader but the phone does nothing else.
Spoof was probably the wrong word to use. I mean that I have never had an LG phone that LGUP alone would not recognize, but when launched with Uppercut also would not be recognized.
You may have a corrupt misc partition. I have had to wipe the misc and the fota partitions several times due to bad flashes:
If using a confirmed working device with UPPERCUT but your device is still not detected in LGUP you may have a "corrupted" misc partition...
as a last resort it has been confirmed in post #70 that wiping misc then booting into download mode allows the device to be detected with UPPERCUT + LGUP 1.14. This may not always work. And without root you cannot do this.

Help with LG V20 US996 demo unit unlocking boot loader failed at LG developer website

Hi, i hope this is the right forum, i am a noobie at LG flashing, been reading some, but it is a little confusing (coming from Oneplus One), so i bought an LG V20 - US996, and i thought i could unlock the bootloader via LG Developers website, so i started the process, install drivers, follow the instructions, etc. then when i submitted IMEI and device id i got an error, message, stating :your device (TEST_GPIN) does not support unlocking bootloader", i emailed LG with the question but still no answer, so i did a little research and found out that my phone is a demo unit or something like it. on the inside sticker it says "not for sale" the model on the sticker is US996. i have attached some screens that show software versions etc.
so basically i would like to know if anyone knows if i am out of luck and cant unlock the bootloader to flash twrp and root, or if it can be done, and point me in the right direction, any help will be greatly appreciated.
i obviously would not want to brick my device, but am willing to try to unlock if possible.
thanks.
That's very interesting. Wondering if that's the model the debug bootloader was pulled from to root the US carrier v20's. I'm not an expert in this but have you tried to flash the us99610f (Dec 1 2016 sec patch) kdz using LG UP. That should put you on official LG firmware that is still rootable. The kdz will flash every piece of firmware getting you off of that demo firmware. From there you could try to unlock the bootloader again using LGs website, or worst case use dirtysanta to root the phone if you wish. There's a hacked lgup thread somewhere in the guide section that should do the trick.
thanks toastyp, i will download 10f, and look for the hacked lgup.

Glad everything worked for you. I would try to root using LGs official unlock.bin method as it will be the easiest way to root the phone. Plus you get to keep your stock bootloader which is potentially helpful in the event LG implements ARB on the us996. If it still doesn't work you can try the dirty elf thread. I believe it's the dirtysanta method for the us996. This process will flash a debug bootloader with full fastboot commands that is unlocked. From there you can flash twrp normally.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....0-h915us996-dirtyelf-bootloader-t3568013/amp/
thanks toastyp, LG official unlock still not working, as i guess the IMEI is still recognized as from a demo unit, i will try dirty elf method, might take a while since my home pc just died (mobo or cpu) anyway , as soon as i can i will try it.
thanks.

Ebay LS997 w/ US996 firmware rooting?

So my beloved LS997's charging port has given up the good fight and no longer works, so I have been hamstringing it along charging batteries outside the phone using an external battery charger... And bought myself a "New Unlocked LS997" that came with Android 7.0 with the intention of rooting it and flashing LineageOS on it and being good to go.
Problem though, Dirty Santa doesn't seem to work beyond step one, and when I attempt to flash a different KDZ per other rooting methods I am getting a SPC code error preventing me from flashing said KDZ.
Anyone have any luck rooting these devices? Thanks in advance!

Use the How to root ZV7 guide by runningnaked. Also you need to flash the vs995 file with Uppercut or the modified Uppercut floating around somewhere. If you are past ZV7 you can't do anything for root. With Uppercut make sure your phone is all set for adb and properly connected. Then also try to open Uppercut as administrator. It will show dump system and other options at bottom if loaded correctly.
If us996...then try the official lg unlock bootloader method. What I described is for ls997.
Ls997 cross flashed to us996...idk. depends on what software version if that's that case.
As for adb...when connected to PC make sure to also have photo transfer selected instead of file tranfer.
If it's an LS997 that's been cross-flashed to US996 firmware, then it should be rootable because if it weren't , then you wouldn't even be able to cross-flash anything on it.

I used the modified LGUP found over here.
Make sure you put the phone in download mode (with the phone powered off, hold down volume-up, then connect the phone via USB to your computer) before running LGUP. The rooting guides don't mention this since they assume you know how to downgrade firmware before starting the main rooting procedure.
