Ive tried to root my phone and cant seem to get it to root. I have 4.4.2 version VS98026A kernel 3.4.0 perf g95fa932. I firsted installed united drivers, enabled debugging, put phone on internet/ethernet, and allowed unknown sources. Then:
I tried Kingo root first. It failed. Tried several times, it said my phone was connected, but when I clicked root, the program got stuck in a loop.
I then tried ioroot25. After clicking root, it wold get to the initial prompt, I pressed a key to continue the phone wold restart and there'd be a greed robot with his gut open and a red exclamation. After sitting awhile, the phone would restart and then after trying again, the same thing would happen.
I then tried towelroot. I went to towelroot.com, downloaded the file, renamed it tr.apk... opened it, installed it, clicked make it rain, and then it said my phone wasnt supported.
What program should I be using, and can anyone assist?
THanks. I apologize if I havnt dont things correctly, I'm very new to this. I appreciate any help.
Did you do every step using ioroot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232 follow this thread
Step 2 doesn't happen. It says something about damean tools, restarts my phone and a green robot with his gut open shows up. And the program essentially terminates.

I followed the instructions and did the initial things listed in my first post, and my phone does say im connected as an installer... but how do i verify that i am connected as a adb device?
Personally, i would kdz back to stock, then use towleroot. Make it rain!
As stated in my first post, towel root isn't working. Says phone not supported.
It seems that ioroot25 is not compatible with 26A. Has anyone had any experience with stomp root?

If so then just flash a suitable kdz for rooting and root your device follow the steps for back to stock after root and you are good to go (hopefully)
Edit: thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
Make sure you flash the right Version (there is a d802 and a d802T !) And the right storage version

ThrThee issue im having is a master reset was done and i need to recover data lost. If i reflash, i run the risk of writing over that unused space and losing that data permanently .
I don't understand hat you mean. You can easily backup your data on your computer and then use the flash tool and then put the data back on your pone

A master reset was done, the data was deleted. So i have to run recovery software to scan tge hardrive. If i start using space on the hard drive, i run the risk of overwriting it and losing it permanently.

Recovery software deep scans for raw content and deleted data, so thats why i cant flash, as flashing could write over data thats alrwady been deleted. I must do a root then scan the phone. Thats my only option, to root the current firmware.
aaah now I understand your point. So the scan software needs root access... mhm. Which phone model do you have?

That means you haven't installed ClockworkMod recovery yet. First flash that via ROM Manager, and then attempt to make a backup again. I recommend doing it the manual way by booting into recovery mode, rather than by doing it through the ROM Manager app.

While you did root your phone you must turn off the security protocol. That is why we are mentioning s-off/s-on. IF you look in the development section you will see thread after thread after thread on how to do just that. Simply running VISIONary will not root your phone to the degree that you need. You must turn off that security protocol. If you don't everytime you reboot your phone it's going back to a OE fashion and losing Root Access, and losing the recovery image since the phone is flashing the stock recovery image again.

I'm entirely new to anything phone/development related so I apologize for my ignorance (I also apologize if this is in the wrong section). I've had a razr M for about 2 years now and I'm entirely content with it except after the last update I can no longer use my foxfi for wifi access. From what I understand I can't root my phone and downgrade from this operating system so my question is this: Can I buy a new one off ebay for ~$100, root it and use foxfi (or some other free wifi tether) while keeping my unlimited data and not "bricking" it? The battery on my current phone has gone to crap anyways and I was considering buying a replacement phone considering they're only ~$100 anyways.
It's a pain in the but trying to figure all of this out with only limited time to browse the internet at work and trying to sort the 100's of pages of info from my phone.
Is this feasible? Are there certain things I need to verify about a phone before I buy it to make sure I can complete this process?
Thanks in advance,
Rory
If you're on the latest firmware, you CAN root with Towel Root and unlock with Motopocalypse. Then you can downgrade back to JB. There's a method posted by @bweN diorD somewhere in this forum.

Thanks RikRong! How do I know if I'm on the latest firmware (does that just mean the latest operating system? My phone says 4.4.2 so I'm assuming that's a yes)? Sorry, there's a thousand new terms and I'm struggling to take in what this all means.
When it comes to trying to root my phone, since I have no more foxfi I also don't have a way to have internet access on my computer/tablet to walk me through the rooting process/assist me if something goes wrong with the... would you think it's intuitive enough/fullproof that if I print out the thread I can just follow it through and shouldn't have issues? Also, I looked through the first 4 or 5 pages in this forum and didn't find any threads started by "bweN dior" but I'm probably just overlooking what I'm looking for. Do you know what the thread was titled?

Yeah, I saw that it was someone else that made the guide for the M, but I like how yours is set-up. I was going to point him to your thread in the HD forum for rooting and unlocking, then refer him to guide in the M forum for downgrading. Use Bwen's guide to use Towel Root and Motopocalypse. Get TWRP from here: http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/TWRP2710-RAZR_M-KITKAT.img and flash a SU zip to gain permanent root. Then use this guide to downgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786016 .

There is far too much about this I don't understand.
I am willing to pay someone to root a razr m for me. Do I have any takers?
Towel Root and Motopocalypse are both apps that you can download to the phone and then run. They're just apps, so they are as easy as opening the app then running. You need to use Towel Root, then Motopocalypse to unlock, and then you can install TWRP. If you don't want to use fastboot to install recovery, then you can flash it with Rashr or Flashify. Just download TWRP and place on your external SD, no need to open or extract it. Flash it with one of those apps. Once you're rooted and unlocked, you should be able to use that guide to downgrade.

just use the tutorial i posted before as a guide, substituting the files @RikRong gave you for the recoveries.
i just updated the guide to include a complete step by step for flashing the recoveries and su zip.
the only thing you will need is fastboot and adb in the same folder with your recovery file.
the guide instructs to use adb and fastboot from my script, but you wont have my script. thats why you need to grab adb and fastboot from google.
its not difficult, you just dont understand what needs to be done. you dont open the recovery with the phone booted up. just read the guide and subsequent link to the step by step and you will quickly see where you are going wrong.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789743
just a quick disclaimer for those not following along, ^^^^^ the firmware and recoveries in this guide are for the 926 only!!! use it for reference only!! any other files in the guide and the guide itself, is universal.

Yes. I think? I did these steps successfully
-----------------------------------------
2. BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING
-----------------------------------------•Download Towel Root [XDA] [WEBSITE] - Disregard if you have previously rooted using Towel Root
•Download Motopocalypse [WEBSITE] [DOWNLOAD]
•Place both on external SDcard
•Install and run Towel Root
•Follow any in-app prompts
•Reboot
•Install and run Motopocalypse
•Follow any in-app prompts
•Reboot
•PROFIT!
My error specifically says this:
Failed flashing process. 7/20 flash modem "non-hlos.bin" -> USB error occurred while reading/writing.
I unplugged it and tried another USB port and it went through all the steps 20/20. Then it rebooted my phone and the phone says "please wait, this may take a few minutes". After several minutes RSD told me to "manually power on the phone". Since the phone was never shut off I couldn't do this so I unplugged the USB and replugged it in thinking maybe there was another USB error. RSD has now finished and says result is "PASS". However my phone still says "please wait, this may take a few minutes". Should I let me phone be or should I restart it?

Hello guys, I just bought an LG G2 VS980 like 2 weeks ago and everything was working fine till yesterday, I decided to root the phone to do some tweaks to it and I found some problems that were not there before rooting.
The problems were.
-Slow charing
-Battery Draining.
First thing I did today in the morning was UNROOT the device because I thought the problems would be solved in that way, to my surprise they are still there!!
I tried to put back the stock rom but my phone can't enter into download mode, tried rooting and entering with TWRP and I can't root my phone with the same method again :crying::crying: stump root says "ERROR: Unsupported device" When it is at 13,000.
Is there any way I could go back to stock without using download mode or TWRP?

Have you tried downloading and running AutoRec instead of StumpRoot? StumpRoot roots your device but doesn't install TWRP. AutoRec will downgrade your bootloader to Jelly Bean and will install TWRP as a custom recovery.

SOLVED
All I needed was to get into download mode, the problem was a combination of usb port + cable. Both my laptop and my desktop only have 3.0 usb ports, but I found a couple of 2.0 ports at the back of the case (the ones that come with the mobo), when I tried with those ports it inmediately entered into download mode .
Now I am using official lollipop (manual OTA) without root
Thank you for all your help d00lz

ive installed the adb drivers from the 15 sec installer found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
and root it using this guide: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-root-nexus-5-4-android-5-1-1-lollipop-install-cwm-recovery-1502856 (except ill be using twrp not cwm)
(backed up apps and messages using helium app, assuming this process will wipe my data)
just wanted to make sure if this way is legit, or i may have missed something (i assume my bootloader is locked)

That looks good, just make sure you understand that in the when you flash the recovery the command is "fastboot flash recovery *the file name of your recovery file*" make sure to include the .img in the file name.
EDIT: Make sure to remember to unlock your bootloader before flashing the recovery by using the command "fastboot oem unlock" after booting into the bootloader.

Thanks alot man! Is there a way to make sure my bootloader is locked (or unlocked)?
Is it going to wipe my data?

I don't know of any way to check if the unlock was successful, but I imagine it would say something in the command prompt after running the command.
Yes, it is going to wipe your data and sdcard folder so anything you want to keep you have to make a backup of on your computer or somewhere else.
EDIT: BTW this guide goes over the process in alot more detail than the guide you found and are using, so if you're still unsure about the process this guide will probably help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/guide-ultimate-nexus-4-root-guide-t2018179

First of all, Thanks! again!
Second, i've seen this guide, and even though you are probably right, it still refers to older versions of android and im a bit skeptical about using it. Plus, it shows a way of unlocking and rooting without losing data but i don't want to use it because it's not the "normal" way and im not sure if it will work.
and one more thing: flashing the recovery means i will have it as long as i want or each time i would want to use it i will have to flash it again?

In the guide I linked it gives you a way to make it permanent. If you don't do that I think you have to reflash the recovery after every time you boot into the normal ROM.

If you use either the file explorer method or the adb method just do the exact same thing.

Great! Congratulations! Unfortunately I've never used helium so I don't know anything about that, I've always used titanium.
This is too complicated for me to explain everything but here is my Cheat Sheet !
If you have been flashing you probably already have these files.
1. Odin SamMobile N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar
reboot and factory reset a few times if needed to remove custom icon, Block SDM
2. Odin hsbadr's N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVRU2CPD1_FullFirmware.tar HERE
3. Unlock with the samsung_unlock_n4-fix PROCESS use SIM card for data. Wi-Fi will not work at this point.
4. Odin twrp-3.0.2-0-trltevzw.tar Uncheck Auto Reboot, Manually boot into TWRP
5. Odin hsbadr's N910VVRU2CPD1_StockRestore.tar HERE
6. TWRP BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524, Factory Reset, boot system
7. Use FlashFire to Flash firmware package SamMobile N910VVRU2CPD1_N910VVZW2CPD1_N910VVRU2CPD1_HOME.tar
( ! System and Cache only ! ) Unblock SDM
8. Now with FlashFire installed and Granted SU Access, Check for new system updates in Phone Setting.
It could start downloading automatically or it may not download for hours. I have tested both scenarios
9. When Updates finishes downloading open FlashFire to install the update.
I got the Build update MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPF3 over the air.
Your mileage may vary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I was able to skip the recommended rooting of 5.1.1
I did not do the unlock using Kingroot until step 3 and I did not permanent root with Super Su until step 6.
No matter how you get there the phone has to be on[Firmware] [MM] [6.0.1] [RetEd/DevEd] Safe Upgrade to Marshmallow [N910VVRU2CPD1]then you can use FlashFire.
EDIT: You have to do step 7 manually with N910VVRU2CPD1_N910VVZW2CPD1_N910VVRU2CPD1_HOME.tar manually download to your phone. Automatic updates start after step 8 with SDM unblocked.

FlashFire
Many of the problems we have been having with the Safe Upgrade to Marshmallow are not present with the FlashFire System Flash.
Interesting, may have to give this a spin at some point. This fixes the issue of DM-Verity, produces a clean EFS folder to go along with Root/unlocked bootloader when the steps are finished?
It's true, I tried this awhile back when doctor-cool posted this in one of the theads in the development forums. I was experiencing an inability to send MMS messages, the "Roam Indicator" message and missing the Applications option in the Setting menu. After reflashing CPD1 through FlashFire, it fixed everything. Flashed the CPF3 update through FlashFire as well and am currently up to date.

So reading your instructions we don't worry about rooting (unlocking the bootloader) till step 3? I need to try this if I can because I suspect Kingroot and Kingoroot has screwed up my EFS folder. It's to the point that when I try to root again thru those 2 apps it locks up and throws me into a bootloop everytime. I'm really hoping to get my Note 4 back to normal operating but I'm to the point I think an XDA expert who had their hands on it would be my only hope. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated :fingers-crossed:

Well my problem is I'm stuck btw being rooted and not rooted. The phone says I am (phone state = custom) but any other app says I'm not. I try to root again thru Kingroot/Kingoroot and it fails both by APK and Desktop version. Reinstalling official LP still holds remnants over and it's not a clean install like everone thinks. I'm on my last nerve with this and all I want is to get my phone back to root so I can clean up the crap in efs folder or truly do a clean back to stock flash. Can accessing the phone to do this be done any other way?

Several times I have... nothing wipes it completely clean. Does EFS folder get touched when flashing or Odining official firmware? I think that folder is my problem to it all.

You absolutely could have corruption of the efs folder. The only way I personally know of to clean the efs folder is HERE.
But you need Root to do it.

Everything worked though before I switched phones. I have a backup of my EFS folder via TWRP... is there any way to edit the backup so just the files that should be there are there then reinstall? Do you know anyone that would be willing and trusting to fix my phone if I sent it to them? I'd pay to get it fixed too!

No Way, I would not try to edit that backup partition. It may end up unable to mount.
You're on the wrong thread. You need to establish a simple unlocked 5.1.1 bootloader.

The backup is what I meant on editing and I'm on this thread because in the beginning you made it sound like I don't have to start from LP... I asked that... and was hoping this may be a different way to get my root back. Sorry!

It's Okay good luck but I was able to skip the recommended rooting of 5.1.1
In this example, I did not unlock until step 3 and I did not permanent root until step 6.
The process I used to unlock is
HERE I just re-tested and the OP is valid.
Thanks for the detailed listing of downloads and links for instructions. To be clear, in both of the links you provided for instructions on unlocking your bootloader, the instructions say you need root (su) in order to run the samsung_unlock_n4-fix. However, you are saying that you were able to run it successfully without root (or at least without Kingroot)? Also, could you clarify what you mean by "use SIM card for data" in step 3 of the OP?

Thanks, I should have said permanent root. You do have to use Kingroot to use the samsung_unlock_n4-fix but you don't have to install Super Su until step 6.
