Officialy unlocked H815 can install (ota) updates - G4 General

Just uninstall root, remove SuperuserSU (yes pro and standard) and reboot. OTA update then even started installation but ended with an strange error during install. Before removing SuperSU it wouldn't even install. Just boot back into GUI and tell me something like "rooting suspicion. Can not update".
LG Bridge installs Updates just perfectly fine! Then boot into TWRP install SuperSu and finish!

So you can use lg bridge to update if you have unlocked bootloader, root and twrp recovery?

Just tried now, TWRP recovery doesn't remain.

Flash TWRP again. Your are unlocked. What stops you?

Awesome! I'd like to read someone confirming this and i might unlock too

I am unlocked and had root/twrp on 10b. OTA wouldn't go through so plugged it in and LG bridge flashed in download mode. Lost root and twrp but just put them both back. Simple. Confirmed.

But data are still lost as in any other case?

Nope. No data loss. Only root is gone.

Everything looks good now, after update, but only getting error message: "Unfortunately MirrorLink has stopped" ( 2 times during boot).
Any idea?

Do you need MirrorLink? If you don't know what it is, you probably don't. Search for it in TiBa or Debloater and disable it.

Thank You, but i desperately need Mirrorlink and i know exactly what it is for. I just bought 2015 Honda CRV, providing mirrorlink and thought that G4 after update will support it. But have read somewhere, that even after this upgrade LG G4 will support Volkswagen cars only. :crying:

To bad. Sorry to hear that! Isnt' it supposed to work with all brands? And doesn't it depend much more on the maker of the car hifi then the car maker? Honda IS a member of the Open Automotive Alliance (http://www.openautoalliance.net/#section_members).
Hifi that should work: Sony XAV-602BT
Can't you just uninstall LG Mirrorlink and install whatever works. You are rooted, right?`Nevertheless this is off topic now. I recommend opening a new thread "MirrorLink on LG"

But this means "dirty" flash of a new ROM. How to make "clean" flash with LG bridge? Thanx.

Unlocked Bootloader. (You DO have a international version H815, don't you?) TWRP flash su. Done.
Afaik there is a way to unlock the T-mobile Version, I am not sure though.
No sense in buying anything else as there is NO other way to unlock the bootloader.

Anyone tried LG Bridge with 10f? Is there a new firmware for the international H815 available at all?
Send from outer space using telepathy

I think the newest available OS software for the H815 is 10E, which started rolling out just recently.
I think that the slightly older 10F was for the Australian handset (H815T).

"New" (01.09.2015) Software version here is called V10d-EUR-XX. After I checked manually I was offered to OTA. I connected the device to PC instead, fired up LG Bridge, which offered the same software 10d Version. Installed successfully (all the annoying sounds are back) and fastbooted twrp (adb reboot bootloader; fastboot boot TWRP2870.img). Let TWRP install supersu (just hit CANCEL; then REBOOT System and exit TWRP by slide to install). Back in GUI/ROM install SuperSU from PlayStore. Sadly I do have to decrypt to re-flash Xposed Framework. For me I have to decrypt first! Will work, but time consuming…..
Annoying problem that sim card will not be recognized after each boot is back.
Stagefright is fixed! At least that! [emoji23]

Yeah, there's some shenanigans with the version numbers. Like legit 10D (build.prop) still showed 10C in Settings.
And supposedly this new 10E (build.prop) shows as 10D in Settings.
The versioning is a mess, and I don't understand what the hell LG is doing.

How does LG OTA determine if you are using the latest firmware? Is it based on the IMEI (region) of your device or they check your current firmware and compare it with the latest version
I'm asking because I flashed a 10D to my TWN region phone and was wondering if would still receive future OTA updates

Anybody else got the OTA 22.21.28?

I was pleasantly surprised to see an update being offered this morning. I am on 22.21.25 (the latest OTA so far for XT1064).
Did anybody else see this?
No idea what it fixes though.

5.0.2!
Yup, 5.0.2
Received the 5.02 OTA today on my XT1063 (US). installed fine. I was rooted, but unrooted using SuperSU (strangely, "full unroot" hung, but "unroot for installing a different SU app" worked just fine). I was using stock recovery, and the OTA installed perfectly fine.
Bonus: forgot to revert to original hosts from adaway before installing the OTA. Still worked! So now, I don't have root, but am ad-free!!
So looks like (for now) "Lolipop OTAs require an untouched /system" is a bit of an exaggeration. Hooray!
(haven't re-rooted yet).
I am really impressed with Motorola. I know there have been some hiccups with different variants of the same phone but wow already on 5.0.2
Downloading now

They haven't moved to the block level deltas for the /system partition as yet. They are still patching file to file. So, as long as the files being patched are not touched by you, you are ok.
From here:
Today's Lollipop 5.0.2 rollout for Moto G (1st Gen & 2nd Gen): this is a soak test for India, Brazil & the U.S. If the performance data looks good after several days, then we'll roll out more widely. This is why some may see 'up to date' when checking - it is not yet exposed to the whole user population.
Note: Moto G (1st Gen) users need to ensure that they have the latest Motorola Updates Services from the Play Store. If you see an update available, please install it - otherwise you will not see the future Lollipop upgrade notification. This is not necessary for Moto G (2nd Gen).

They probably already have. Some people claimed they got OTA in the partition block diff format for Nexus series phones. May be motorola is keeping the current method alive on its own. After all, its just packaging and OEMs choose the packaging.

It honestly doesn't make much of a difference. Keep a bare stock backup always handy, with pretty much empty /data partition. So, basically the update procedure is (and would continue to be):
0. Capture the OTA zip from /cache.
1. Take a full TWRP back up of the current ROM, with your changes etc.
2. Restore to previous bare stock ROM including the stock recovery.
3. Sideload the OTA zip and make sure to boot at least once (and skip account setup if this is the first OTA ever).
4. Flash TWRP recovery partition
5. Take a TWRP backup of new bare stock ROM for use for the next OTA.
6. Restore your /data.
7. Install SuperSU.zip, and optionally busybox.
8. Profit!
This means all your changes to the /system partition are lost. But you should not be making changes to /system partition anyway (apart from the SuperSU and busybox).
Note that you can not afford to miss an OTA... The above procedure breaks. So, keep up with OTAs.

LG D290n root problem

Hi, I bought LG Fino with branded android 4.4.2. After first boot i made system update, and now I can't root my phone. Purpledrake shows me error (attached file). Yes, I have latest version of LG driver and usb debug is on. I tried also kingo root, and still nothing. Is it possible to root my phone?

Exactly. if anyone can help root my lg fino v10c? I have the same error as above mate.
If there isn't an updated tool to root the new version, then your only hope will be to find the firmware to downgrade. This is why you never officially update modded devices. This goes for Android, Apple, and pretty much anything else.

I was also unable but not the same problem (mine just wait for the phone eternally...). First I updated it to brand free V10e (from V10e Movistar-Spain) following this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-reflashing-stock-rom-d290-d295-t3142456
I highly recommend this step because experimented an important behavior improvement. During the process I experimented some driver problems but were solved:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64589488&postcount=4
And then I use this method to root it successfully:
http://www.smartphoneclinics.com/one-click-root-lg-fino-d290n/
I think the tool doesn't differ too much from PurpleDrake one but was the one that worked for me. After uninstalling some bloatware and installing a new launcher (CM-Trebuchet) it feels like a completely different phone.
I don't know if this is approved by xda but Kingo Root actually worked on the D290n for me, and I mean the apk version, not desktop. Why not give it a try?

[HowTo] Encrypt/Decrypt phone when rooted & Xposed

I would like to share with you how to encrypt/decrypt when you are rooted. Restart one time the phone after you have installed the firmware and rooted.
Done with H815E two times.
I - Install PKILL tool
Install from the playstore Busybox Installer and install busybox. It will install on your device a lot of command line tools. (you need to be rooted)
II - Install Terminall
From the playstore install Terminal .
III - prerequisites
- Plug-in the charger on your phone
- Add unlock pin to your phone before encrypting
IV - Encrypting
Open Terminal and write
Code:
su
The carret change from $ to #
Code:
pkill -KILL daemonsu
The carret change from # to $
Just after that go settings and security then encrypt / decrypt device (don't wait)
I hope it will help you !
Have fun !
Didn't work on Verizon G4.
Followed all of the above steps on a freshly rooted and wiped Verizon G4 without success. Just sits on red Verizon boot animation endlessly. Really would like to have root and encryption.

Sorry for that, do you have a rebot your phone after having install root ? You need to do it one time.
I just disabled the SuperSU app and it worked.
Thanks! This works for my rooted 818P V110f! Yeah!!!
Nice! This is quicker and less painful then my method! I will try and provide feedback! Thank you sir.

One question remains: Why on earth does LG sends it device into eternal "do nothing loop" when trying to encrypt a rooted device. Why o why? Must be the same evil bastard that implemented the "battery full" sound. He/she wants the LG customers to suffer!
Send from outer space using telepathy
My experience has been the same as keeperoffrisco's. And I, too, have the Verizon variant of the LG G4.
The obvious problem with this method and the Verizon model is that the phone restarts immediately after initiating the encryption process. For this reason, I don't see how killing the daemonsu binary will have any effect.
As soon as the encryption process is initiated, the screen flashes briefly to the green "Android" guy on a white background, and then switches to the Verizon boot screen, and then hangs there forever (until I pull the battery).
I sympathize with @fpsq: why the **** does the phone sit in this state once it's rooted? How is the bootloader establishing that the phone is rooted?
I'm really eager to find a method for encrypting a rooted Verizon LG G4!
You can. My rooted + encrypted LG G4 is right beside me. Have a look at these links for instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62457999&postcount=1919
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62156629&postcount=1468
Basically it is:
"You should NOT root via the method here described. UNLOCK your bootloader, encypt, start TWRP. Get password enter screen. Ignore that screen TWRP does not work properly. Tell TWRP to reboot system. Swipe to "yes install SU" Back in GUI install rest for SU from Play Store. Not to hard once you done it. "
To be able to decrypt once you are already rooted you need to uninstall root, then supersu + busybox and the like and then decrypt.
If this does not work you need to convince your device you never have been rooted (RCT bypass). The instructions for the LG G2 work just fine and can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g2-mini/general/lg-rct-bypass-t2818441
Sometimes it is usefull that LG is only updateing software if it really really has to. So a lot of old and unchanged code in the excuse that servers LG as an Android skin. :cyclops:

Yes, right now LG provides a bootloader unlock only for the European variants of the H815 - so no Singapore or US variants and no Verizon, Dual Sim variants or whatsoever etc.
If you didn't take an OTA you might have a chance to use the unofficial bootloader unlock that is due to come out with the official release of the LG V10 on the 20th of October.
Greetings

Do NOT buy not unlockable Phones. Buy the LG G4 H815. How on earth should manufactures ever learn if you keep throwing money at them? By the way, almost all carriers where infiltrated by the NSA. No one received a praise from the NSA like Verizon did for "collaboration". Verizon is the cheap hooker that gives ****s away for free. While it is you being ****ed. If you still use their services, you don't seem to mind, do you?

Ok, after some hours of trying, testing and failing I've found a solution.
Basically you have to install twrp first, encrypt the phone and then root it with the systemless supersu.
In my case, twrp still fails to decrypt the /data partition, even i've installed it as the phone was unencrypted. So I've to install the Super-su zip from the external sd card and then it was no problem .

I'm having the same issue! I flashed the stock recovery because the OTA update wouldn't work with TWRP. The rom is the stock amazon one with ads, the current build number is MPJ24.139-64, What do you mean by 49 or 64? and no root. All I did was follow the motorola steps for unlocking the bootloader and flashed TWRP so i could get backups.
I found this guide: laviefrugale(dot)blogspot(dot)ca/2015/05/moto-g-ota-update-error(dot)html But it says to root the phone to look at system logs and I don't know if i wanna do that. But if rooting is necessary to update to nougat then i will do it.
I appreciate your time, please respond soon!
I have the same issue. Bootloader is unlocked. Had been rooted by the systemless method. Flashed the stock back up and tried the OTA update. Getting the same error as previous posters. Build MPJ24.139-48
I got it working now. Downgraded to MPJ24.139-49 using rootjunky file using steps from here. It finished upgrading, but showed an error at the end. Rebooted the phone and saw that the firmware was applied. An upgrade was also available to go to MPJ24.139-64. Ran the update (no errors this time). After getting back in, the nougat update NPJ25.93-14 was available. Updated and now I'm up and running.

Can't take OEM updates after unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP

I've unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP on my girlfriend's Moto G5 Plus, but now whenever she tries to take OEM updates, the device reboots into the updating stage and then fails at an image of a dead Android. I'm at work currently without access to the device, but before I get home I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or has a resolution to this issue?
Thank you!

Thank you!

You can't get those automatic updates if you have modified the phone system (e.g. unlock bootloader)... if this is what you mean.
I'm still not very used to moto devices but, from what I've read so far, you have to install updates via fastboot.

Yes, that's true stuff! Also, you'll keep getting the update notifications. To end that nightmare, you need to purchase the paid version of Titanium Backup and 'freeze' the Motorola Update Service

Dang! That's unfortunate! I might just install a custom rom for her or something, then. Thanks for the information!

I may be wrong.. but AFAIK custom roms don't have the one button navigation feature.
I haven't tested on modern phone but i know that if you want to install successfully an OTA update you need: 1) stock recovery (with TWRP it will fail) 2) an untouched system partition (you must install supersu in systemless mode).
Another way is via flashfire from the play store.
Hope this could help you

You can still take OEM updates even if you have unlocked your bootloader. Your phone needs to have stock rom and stock recovery. Since you installed TWRP, its failing to update. Flash stock recovery image and you'll be able to update just fine.

Yes it has but that feature no name like onekey navigation....you can set in fingerprint gesture menu whatever you want
I have a general question about updates. On my G5 plus I'm still on the January 1st Android security level. I unlocked my bootloader but kept the recovery and rom stock.
Will I get OTA updates normally and just be able to install them through the OS? Or do I have to find the update online and install via fastboot?

You will get all updates via OTA:highfive:, the unlock of bootloader won't prevent you to get updates:laugh:
In extrema ratio flash via fastboot but you won't need that:good:

Wait, so if an ota rolls out, it'll fail. But you can manually flash with fastboot. But even after fastboot flashing, it'll still notify you that an update is waiting?? Even if you manually applied that update?
I'd rather not freeze the service as I do want to know when the next ota comes along that I'll want to flash.
