A friend of mine has a S7E, just a few months old. It was fine for her until the Android 7.0 update. It's been suoer laggy, slow since then (a few weeks ago). <br />
Very few apps installed, however lots of pictures (told her to move those to tge SD card). <br />
Did all the usual checks and things, including wiping the cache. Still no go. <br />
Right now her old S6E is much faster. <br />
Any thoughts?

Whether on Cyan or Desire Alphas...
my market just stops downloading or updating.
I DID sell my tmobile and get att device and this has all happened subsequent to that.
I did clear out my Google checkout Tmobile account listing.
Even if I wipe and even manually reinstall everthing from the market...markets OK...but I think the first time I power off...the market just stops working.
Any ideas?
thanks
I've had occasional problems downloading from the market when on wifi. Try signing in or out of google talk. That makes the downloads start for me when I'm having that issue.
I'm having the same problem as you, it was working fine yesterday, but today it stop working, I tried replacing the Vending.apk, but still no luck. I'm using the latest CM 5.0.5.3 rom.
That happend to me a couple times where, when flashing between roms, all of a sudden all my downloads would pause at "Starting Download" in this case I had to wipe everything and start all over fresh...
Signing in and out of Google Talk didnt work for me but the wipe situation did.
yeah the wipe works.... temporarily ...first poweroff and.same.result.
Same problem here.
Seems to be a bug.
i've had the issue a couple of times, i just canceled the download, backed out of the market. when i went back in it worked fine. i tried backing out while it was "starting download" and going back in but that didn't help.
I've seen a loooooooot of users with this problem. Haven't got many problems with it till now.
I already tried:
- rebooting
- killing market or clearing market's cache
- going in/out wifi, 3G etc.
- login in and out of GTALK (no problem with gtalk at all!)
- cancelling my downloads etc. All apps I try to install/upgrade stall at "Download starten..." or "Starting download..."
Damn :s. What's going on? Does nobody know what the real issue is here?
uninstall market updates. There are a lot of threads on this.
I did remove the updates. Had to accept again, retried, still the same.
Like you say, a lot of threads: but I can't find the cause. Can you.
In the meantime I am still stuck. And I am not willing (for now) to reinstall my device for it.
That works for me, can you keep a logcat running and post the log?
cmd
adb logcat
here is the log
Can you make anything of it?
I already tried al lot of things...
Is the market really slow at loading apps in the market? When you download an app does it hang on installing the app? Wiping, fix_permissions, and clearing data/cache in the applications settings didn't work either?

ok, if 'fix_permissions' doesn't work for you:
push this file -

Basiclly make a new txt file, name it whatever, paste the above text, save it, and adb push it
adb push market.txt /data/data/com.android.vending/shared_prefs/vending_preferences.xml
If you copy it from the google page, make sure you change ture to true in the 4th from the last line.
added marketfix.txt

This has been happening to me since I got my first Android device(Nexus One).
First it was the TMobile version then I got the ATT 3G, and it does it too.
Signing in and out of Google Talk always initiates the download so I've never *****ed about it. Hopefully it will be fixed in 2.2
Really weird that the Market seems somehow tied to Google Talk
Thanks for your advise!!!
Damn.... I was really hoping it would be solved.
I first tried the fix_permissions, which changed a lot of files, except these in the /system/app, which states read only. I guess this is normal.
That did not help, so I pushed that file.
Did not work either. Cleaning the cache again, rebooting etc. no good.
It stays at starting download.
Do you want me to do a specific action while doing a logcat?
thanks for helping me!!!

after you see the error , copy and paste the relevant lines from the log and paste here.
Ok,
I :
cleared market app cache and upgrades
did the fix_permissions
pushed the file
rebooted and cleard cache and Dalvic Cache
rebooted and went into market and tried some uploads (while connected with google talk over WIFI)
I uploaded the file (logcat.txt)
Still the same...
I pushed the file again while being in the market and made a new log (logcat2.txt).
still : Starting download...
Any experts here taking the time to figure this out?
I'm going slightly maaaaaaad...
I missed one file
Anyone that can make something of it????
Brisoto, can you make anything of it?
gave up. It had to do with an app, because after wiping everything it worked, after restoring everything with titanium it didn't work anymore .
Installed Froy for now.
please let them fix copilot .
Thanks for helping anyway!!!
I have an SPH-L720 flashed to Virgin Mobile and cannot get data to work on any 4.4 ROM. Currently, I am on CM 10.2 and I must manually change the APN because they have the wrong MCC and MNC. I use APN Backup and Restore and manually update the apns-conf.xml with this:
<apn carrier="Virgin Mobile US" mcc="311" mnc="490" apn="0" port="" mmsproxy="205.239.233.136" mmsport="81" mmsc="http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8088/mms?" type="mms" />
I would really like to get data working if anyone knows what I need to do differently on kit kat?
Thanks
I guess there's nothing to do? I am unable to write APN settings on any KitKat ROM so far.

If you go to the play store and search for APN backup and restore, they have instructions in the app description that may help you. Good luck.

What Baseband are you on currently? I know that the mja modem update finally allows you to edit your apn. Who flashed the phone over? There aren't a ton of flashing experts on xda, my experience is that Howard forums is a better resource for finding flashing solutions.

I'm on MJA. I tried APN Backup and Restore. Keeps giving me errors. That it is unable to write APN settings

Try searching the play store for apn settings shortcut, install and create the shortcut on your home screen and see if it works

It works great on any 4.3.1 or lower ROM. I just was wondering if 4.4 had a new way of handling APNs. Thanks for the tips. Downloading the latest cm nightly to try again
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Yes! Data working on latest nightly except one big problem: anytime WiFi or airplane mode is toggled, data no longer works. APN settings shortcut always force closes on me.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
If you have a voice dialer app you should be able to open apns through it and then write them!! I'm on a jflteusc and I use sprint Roms often on 4.4 and write the apns everytime this way!

I'm running the latest CM11 nightly (cm-11-20131228-NIGHTLY-toroplus.zip) on my Sprint Galaxy Nexus. I followed the instructions on Play store to convert APN Backup & Restore to system app, but I get error message when trying to do backup (see attachment).
The Play store does have the following note:
Android 4.4 / KitKat: The app has to be moved to the /system/priv-app folder for it to be able to acquire the correct permissions.

but I'm not sure how to accomplish that. I do have Titanium Backup. Any ideas?
Update: got it working. Basically did the following using ES File Explorer (where indicated by ES):
downloaded apk from http://www.appsapk.com/apn-backup-restore/
copied apk to sdcard
ES: moved apk to /system/priv-app
ES: changed permissions to read, write, execute
ES: installed apk
rebooted
disabled ICS checking
Hi,
I have no data on SPH-L710 after flashing cm11 nightly and it works well when I flash back to any Android 4.3 firmware.
It seems like same problem as you guys encounter.
Also I have exotic carrier its ukrainian PeopleNet so I tried APN settings following the carriers guide:
Code:
<apn name="PEOPLEnet MMS" numeric="25521" mcc="255" mnc="21" apn="#777" user="25521*min*@wap.ua21" server="172.25.10.10" password="wap" proxy="172.25.10.10" port="8080" mmsproxy="172.25.10.10" mmsport="8080" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="mmsc:80" type="mms" />
<apn name="PeopleNet" numeric="25521" mcc="255" mnc="21" apn="#777" user="*mdn*@people.net.ua" server="null" password="000000" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="null" mmsport="null" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="null" type="default,supl" />
I wonder how does this settings affect EVDO connection? I belive 4.3 uses PPP settings from NV items
Is it enough to set correct mcc\mnc as my banner says I'm still on "Sprint" ?
Is there a way do debug the problem, like PPP logs?

I wanted to add on to this. I have the same problem as the OP does. I had to do one additional thing to get these steps to work.
After rebooting, the app kept crashing when I tried to open it. I went back to the apk in /system/app-priv and installed the app again. After doing this, I was able to open the app and restore my APNs successfully.
Is anyone else experianceing this issue? I just came over from an S4 that was running an AOSP ROM. I am now running our stock ROM, rooted with Xposed. Titanium Backup and Helium say that my external SD card can not be accessed/written to. I have fixed permissions via ROM Manager since I have Philz which doesn't have a fix permissions option. Still cant write to external SD. Any suggestions?

A simple search would have found dozens of threads discussing this and describing workarounds. In short, Kitkat cripples the ability of third party apps to freely write to your SD card obstensibly in the interests of security a la IOS.
That is.. don't let end users do anything other than browse the web or use simplistic apps and we can protect your device from the scary internet, malware and so forth.
Rooted devices can easily restore the functionality.

The solution should be readily apparent. Even to you. And with that attitude, connect the dots yourself.
Insight into the cause would be most helpful as the "solution" is more of a work around. Knowing the cause would benefit the community. a quick glance back at the OP might have necessary. :good::good::good::good:
Even after all this, Helium will not offer me the choice to use the SD card.
1. navigate to /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
2.Tap and hold the platform.xml file and select Edit option.
3.Now look for this entry:
name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"
4.Now add the following string of code just after <group gid=”sdcard_rw”/>.
<group gid="media_rw"/>
5.Having editing the file, save your changes and exit the root file manager app.
6.Finally, reboot your phone or tablet.
When your device boots up the write access on external SD card by third-party apps should be enabled.

Have you tried FolderMount from Play, this lets apps write data to the external sdcard. Works well for me.

I used this one too, sends to work, but TI backup still gains to access the SD, also tried the SDFix app that was mentioned, same end effect. I've even verified the permissions myself with Rom toolbox for browser. Something about how TI accesses the SD is non standard. Works on every other device and Android version I've used through 4.4.2 slim Rom on my moto droid hd
my new note 4 N910H lags too much
I only rooted the phone. then to make sure I flashed the latest official rom. but it's lagging.
for example in browsing or facebook when I scroll it pauses for a moment then scrolls. it's like a temporary freezing
is there a way to fix it?
found a solution: @quantumtraveler
Open root explorer file manager and navigate to /system. Set it to read/write. Open a file called build.prop with text editor. Find (at the bottom usually) a line that reads: ro.securestorage.support=true. Change "true" to "false" (without quote marks.
Save build.prop and reboot your device
If you use xposed, go to the xposed installer and install the framework again. reboot.
Sounds like your internet is to blame. It's not loading the page fast enough. It's done it on all of my phones.

How long have you had your device? Mine was lagging the first couple of days, I was pissed off but too lazy to do anything, just thought I'd fix it later when I installed a custom ROM
After a few days the lag just stopped by itself... No idea what happened but I'm happy.

it wasn't the internet load problem, and fyi I have a very fast internet.
as I explained I found the solution and the lag is gone.
I also cleared data of S health as suggested
any ways my phone is as smooth as it can be.
the phone was lagging the first day I bought it.
After you installed xposed, which you forgot to mention. Glad it's working out for ya.

Yea I'm not rooted but mine was laggy at first and I restored it and it's much better
As ive learned on many previous Samsung phones, always factory reset the phone after you've done initial setup, preferably flash stock rom in odin and then factory reset

I'm still 4.4.4 because in my country Lollipop isn't still available.<br/>
