Whether on Cyan or Desire Alphas...
my market just stops downloading or updating.
I DID sell my tmobile and get att device and this has all happened subsequent to that.
I did clear out my Google checkout Tmobile account listing.
Even if I wipe and even manually reinstall everthing from the market...markets OK...but I think the first time I power off...the market just stops working.
Any ideas?
thanks
I've had occasional problems downloading from the market when on wifi. Try signing in or out of google talk. That makes the downloads start for me when I'm having that issue.
I'm having the same problem as you, it was working fine yesterday, but today it stop working, I tried replacing the Vending.apk, but still no luck. I'm using the latest CM 5.0.5.3 rom.
That happend to me a couple times where, when flashing between roms, all of a sudden all my downloads would pause at "Starting Download" in this case I had to wipe everything and start all over fresh...
Signing in and out of Google Talk didnt work for me but the wipe situation did.
yeah the wipe works.... temporarily ...first poweroff and.same.result.
Same problem here.
Seems to be a bug.
i've had the issue a couple of times, i just canceled the download, backed out of the market. when i went back in it worked fine. i tried backing out while it was "starting download" and going back in but that didn't help.
I've seen a loooooooot of users with this problem. Haven't got many problems with it till now.
I already tried:
- rebooting
- killing market or clearing market's cache
- going in/out wifi, 3G etc.
- login in and out of GTALK (no problem with gtalk at all!)
- cancelling my downloads etc. All apps I try to install/upgrade stall at "Download starten..." or "Starting download..."
Damn :s. What's going on? Does nobody know what the real issue is here?
uninstall market updates. There are a lot of threads on this.
I did remove the updates. Had to accept again, retried, still the same.
Like you say, a lot of threads: but I can't find the cause. Can you.
In the meantime I am still stuck. And I am not willing (for now) to reinstall my device for it.
That works for me, can you keep a logcat running and post the log?
cmd
adb logcat
here is the log
Can you make anything of it?
I already tried al lot of things...
Is the market really slow at loading apps in the market? When you download an app does it hang on installing the app? Wiping, fix_permissions, and clearing data/cache in the applications settings didn't work either?

ok, if 'fix_permissions' doesn't work for you:
push this file -

Basiclly make a new txt file, name it whatever, paste the above text, save it, and adb push it
adb push market.txt /data/data/com.android.vending/shared_prefs/vending_preferences.xml
If you copy it from the google page, make sure you change ture to true in the 4th from the last line.

This has been happening to me since I got my first Android device(Nexus One).
First it was the TMobile version then I got the ATT 3G, and it does it too.
Signing in and out of Google Talk always initiates the download so I've never *****ed about it. Hopefully it will be fixed in 2.2
Really weird that the Market seems somehow tied to Google Talk
Thanks for your advise!!!
Damn.... I was really hoping it would be solved.
I first tried the fix_permissions, which changed a lot of files, except these in the /system/app, which states read only. I guess this is normal.
That did not help, so I pushed that file.
Did not work either. Cleaning the cache again, rebooting etc. no good.
It stays at starting download.
Do you want me to do a specific action while doing a logcat?
thanks for helping me!!!

after you see the error , copy and paste the relevant lines from the log and paste here.
Ok,
I :
cleared market app cache and upgrades
did the fix_permissions
pushed the file
rebooted and cleard cache and Dalvic Cache
rebooted and went into market and tried some uploads (while connected with google talk over WIFI)
I uploaded the file (logcat.txt)
Still the same...
I pushed the file again while being in the market and made a new log (logcat2.txt).
still : Starting download...
Any experts here taking the time to figure this out?
I'm going slightly maaaaaaad...
I missed one file
Anyone that can make something of it????
Brisoto, can you make anything of it?
gave up. It had to do with an app, because after wiping everything it worked, after restoring everything with titanium it didn't work anymore .
Installed Froy for now.
please let them fix copilot .
Thanks for helping anyway!!!

Something happened to my over the weekend. I found it had reset and kept resetting on the loading screen. I took the battery out, popped it on and turned it on. It made it to the home screen but all the apps I had stored on the SD card would close unexpectedly. It looked like ext2 partition crapped out or something as none of those apps would run. So I restored a backup from Nandroid and everything was working again EXCEPT for my SMS/MMS.
Whenever I go into messages, it crashes with a "force close" prompt stating com.android.mms closed unexpectedly. I'm thinking if I could clear all the messages I had save that would solve the problem, but I have no clue where they're stored.
Any advice?
Found what I needed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2976069&highlight=messages+stored#post2976069
I deleted the DB with the messages, all is well.
same problem here,
clicking "sms" pops up an error msg "com.android.mms ended unexpected"
I have not found any .db files yet :-(
Hello,
Did you deleted mmssms.db or some of "PART_XXXXXXXXXX" files too?
Thanks!
Deleting the mmssms.db file
For no apparent reason my phone's messaging app suddenly started force closing. After multiple reboots, even taking the battery out while phone was on, changing the language settings, and even doing a data factory reset, nothing worked. Found this post and deleted the mmssms.db file, now messaging app works fine, tho I lost all the old messages. That's ok, I had all but the last day backed up to Gmail anyway. So, just delete the database file.

I have the same problem. Did you permanently delete the database or is it still there? Cos I tried to delete the database throught root explorer but it still remains altho it has deleted all the messages saved in it.
any news on the com.android.mms subject????? I feel very frustrated with my android and i looked everywhere on the internet and can't manage to fix it!
A possible fix
Here's what I did that fixed mine:
I think the root-cause of this error occurred from restoring old messages. There must have been a character/corruption somewhere that was screwing everything up.
Please note the following: I'm using an Evo 4G, running gingerbread-evo-deck-1.2 ROM. I realize this is a G1 thread, but this came up first on google, so I think it would be most helpful here. I was getting the error as described when using the "Messaging" app.
What I did:
Terminal Emulator
su (allow root if prompted)
rm /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Menu > Reset terminal (probably an unnecessary step, but it's what I did)
home screen > remove battery while running
wait 20 seconds
reboot
I don't know why removing the battery that way works. I did try force closing the "Message" app and it didn't work. I realize now I probably should have tried to figure out how to kill the underlying framework, but oh well. I'm not going to try breaking it again.

Works for me thanks
Rooted phone like a charm.
Only thing is I cannot download from Android Market.
It stalls at "starting download".
I have tried following suggested remedies:
1. Log into G-Talk (cannot do it just idles at logging and never really logs in)
2. Backed up Market.apk and uninstalled updates and cleared cache thorugh settings-manage apps and re-installed Market again but no avail.
I am loosing it!!!
I read Paul from Modaco has a linux script to enter via adb that fixest the problem..
It reads to fix Market issues, here we goes http://bit.ly/cUTISr

I hope it works for you good luck..
Don't know if this will help but do you have the latest busybox installed?
Feeling Vibrant on xda-app
Im rooted with no Market place issues.
I have strange market issues, but it seems more related to WiFi than it does to anything else. I have no problem connecting to the market via E/3G, but the second I turn on WiFi all my market downloads stall out, and I can no longer access GTalk, or Google Voice Search.
Didnt have the problem before root, or on any other rooted Android device.
Both before and after root, I've had market issues over wifi with needing to start downloads a couple times every once in a while.
No issues before/after root with market on 3G
I'm rooted as well with no real issues. I'll get a random force close from time to time, but I was getting that as well before I rooted. I just think it's a Market/Google issue, and not so much that the phone is rooted.

I've had my phone rooted since it came out of the box, have had no issues.
I recommend doing a wipe on the phone and starting from scratch.
I have tried Modaco thing it didnt fix it.
I cant seem to get to do with busybox either, likely as I am novice.
I think my problem was that I just plain deleted pre-loaded apps through android mate app to which i granted superuser access.
My redneck solution now is to take out the sim card put it back into my old my-touch 3g, access market, install app, back it up, transfer apk file over to PC and then from there into back-up folder in Vibrant and install it from there using astro. Desperate...
How do I wipe the the whole thing and start from scratch? Do I back up the whole ROM on formated sd card and then wipe and back up again from that sd card? I have never done that before. Wouldn't I just back up the whole faulty system again?
I've been having the same problem with no fix so far.
The guy who put up this solution seems to know what's going on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711660&page=2
The only problem is that finding a friend with a Galaxy is going to be hard. If anyone is happy to post the dumps depending on requests, that would be greatly appreciated.
I also have a similar problem, but the the downloads start and complete, it just LAGS like no ones business (~15-30 seconds in between hitting install, and when the next "okay" windows comes up.....till then I am staring at 2 grey bars and the white application background w/ nothing on it, and no loading happening. Are these related?
Thanks!
Market root or non root fix.
I had the same exact problem like you guys.
Seems that the market it self and the "download manager" included in the market use individual settings to access the network.
I got this problem after i used wifi only to connect to the market. Downloaded whatever i needed.
Turned wifi off, turned off flight mode so i could connect to 3g.
Open the market back again, tried to download something else and always would get stuck at "downloading". Funny thing i could browse any apps in the market but downloading would do nothing.
Here's the fix:
Close market completely, either using a task killer or reboot your phone.
With wifi mode off and flight mode turn on, open the market app.
It wont do anything of course.
Close the market (don't have to kill app)
Turn off the flight mode, this will turn 3G back on.
Go back to your market and try downloading something.
It should work.
Feel like it's an issue with the market app more then anything related with root or non root being done.
Let me know if this works for you 2.
Unfortunately the above fix did nothing for me.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
having the same problem with my galaxy s, any help would be really nice
cheers

Rooted:
open titanium backup
select the market
wipe data, twice if you want to
still in TB, go menu > more > market doctor
fix the missing links, if any.
go to market, accept the terms
go download an app
work?
This almost always fixes my market issues, if not... reboot and try another data (3g/wifi)
I finally found a way to fix my market as nothing else was working to fix it, I would post a link but I can't copy and paste the link but if you search for my post called market issue fixed (possibly) then follow that and see how you get on

This should be a sticky somewhere. I have been trying to find this solution. It worked perfect for me! Thanks
Awesome man, glad that it helped! Anyone else notice this fix it?
EDIT: After studying some logs, and struggling with this issue for some time, I am happy to say I have finally figured out why this happens, and how to fix it.
The issue is with the calendar, which is why what is written below would work for a short time, before the problem would resurface. If you navigate into the calendar settings, you will see an option within Calendar View Settings to "Include Weather". What is happening, regardless of whether this is checked, is upon the gps turning on, and in set intervals afterward, the calendar tries to check the weather. When it does not find the proper apk, the com.htc.bgp message appears.
How To Fix
The files that need to be replaced are WeatherProvider.apk and WeatherProvider.odex (WeatherProvider.zip), which I have attached below for convenience. Simply replace these files using the method you prefer (adb, terminal, root file browser), remembering to remount /system as rw, then fix_permissions and reboot.
Alternatively, I made a flashable version (com.htc.bgp_fix_flashable-signed.zip), which you need only flash from recovery and reboot.

I recently started getting notices that com.htc.bgp stopped and needed a force close. Though it seemed not to affect anything, it was annoying.
It happens when one removes the sense apps (though I have not narrowed down exactly which ones).
To fix this, go to settings, applications, manage applications, then clear data in Calendar, Calander Provider, and Gmail.
Thank you! It was starting to really annoy me.
EDIT: It's back.

Came back on me too. Cleared delvik as well. I may have to try and track down all the weather app crap I removed to stop it if no one can figure out a better way.
According to Elixer that process is started by ConnectToPCService. Hope that helps. I no longer get but I'm back to stock with all HTC junk intact, just Sprint crap removed.

How do you "flash" from recovery & reboot
does this work on other htc phones?
i flashed this on a desire hd running leedroid 3.0.2 but i still get the FC
din clear data after flashing
note: i used a no sense script but left myhtc and htclocationservice intact
problem parsing package
i had downloaded the said files but when I tried to install the files,it says problem parsing the package..how to fix this?
thanks,

I cannot get the market to install any applications, though it is working and searchable.
I rooted my nook2e with Xboxexpert's nooter.img and script package, and updated the vending.apk with no results. I ran touchnooter 1.6.24, and now the market works and is searchable, but none of the apps i pick will download, or install.
It's been incremental gains here and there though this whole process... just one last step to get market working!
(also, the youtube app wont run, and gmail says it must be synced with an account, but in the Settings tab for the nook, you cannot add any of the facebook/twitter/google account information, it just flashes the screen and goes back to the previous setting screen.
I had a similar problem. If you can get vending.apk it will fix the download problem

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51
ok, so, i fixed it, and here's how!
I cleared the nook, using the menues to do a factory memory wipe...
Then i put TouchNooter on an SD card, and installed that. Then i ran XboxExpert's batch script to install apps and change settings etc. Then i put the updated Vending.apk file on the sd card and ran that update twice... the first time it made the market not work at all.
but now it works and downloads and searches and everything!
I know others have experienced this error. No one mentions a fix. Just flashed lightspeed 4.3 and its virtually unusable without being able to download from the market. Can some kind soul enlighten me?

This self resolved after about 30 minutes of trying.
When that happened to me I deleted the market and flashed newer gapps

Before doing all that, try clearing cache and data from the Market (now called "Google Play Store") in App settings. That did the trick for me.
I had to manually select my Gmail account from within Google Play..
how I fixed

if you're not using Clockwork rom manager you should. I have cwm5.0 and I rooted my phone with cm9-ics and was getting a 921 error. I went and ran the "permissions fix" in CWM and everything works fine now
Permissions fix in recovery can cause its own set of problems, like borking your contacts photos, and a couple other things I can't remember off-hand. Easily fixable, but it would probably be better to target a more specific fix for the Market/Play rather than trying such a global fix. Just my opinion...
Google Play cant update apps error 921
yo,
i am running sgs2 with CheckRom RevoHD v4 and had error 921 on google play/androidmarket. restarted phone seems fine all updates worked.
jess
This error is still happening
its not a problem with your devices, i cant even see my apps on the website. its a google play glitch and is wide spread but not every device appears to be affected in the same way. very strange.
i have tryed all fixes and still the same
921 could be only CM
After installing 3.5.16 it gave me the 921 error.
I have a Moto XT701, and I use ava's version of CM7.
could this be related to CM specifically? Anyone got the error with a stock ROM?
next time it happens can you log into google talk, I remember back in the day if that wasnt signed in market would be borked
Solution
After some digging here is what worked for me:
I added my wifes gmail account to accounts and sync
I changed google play store to the new account
I checked to see if updates were working (they were)
I changed google play store back to my account
I removed my wifes gmail account (system settings > accounts and sync > select account > remove account
It is working fine now. I can update and download without error.

Hi,
I have a Navon Platinum 10 tab, ICS 4.0.4 on it. I had this error, too.
I read some alternatives for fixing google play errors, but I tired to delete my account and add acount and clear cache and so one... I resolved that by this way:
- turn on your tab device
- do not start play store application!
- in Settings-->Applications menu, on All tab search for gogle play application, and clear cahe and data too. You need to do this only once time.
- run Root Browser on your device ( if you have'n this, than download, install, or you may use Root Explorer if you have)
- find vending.apk in System/App folder
- long click on it, a local menu will appear. Chose Permissions.
- set permissons 777 for this file ( klikk on every checkbox).
- close all running apps
-restart your device, and enjoy
It works fine, Since I set this permissions, I don't get any errors from google play,
Hope, it will helps.
P.S.: sorry for my misstakes in english language
