[Q] my new note 4 lag - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my new note 4 N910H lags too much
I only rooted the phone. then to make sure I flashed the latest official rom. but it's lagging.
for example in browsing or facebook when I scroll it pauses for a moment then scrolls. it's like a temporary freezing
is there a way to fix it?
found a solution: @quantumtraveler
Open root explorer file manager and navigate to /system. Set it to read/write. Open a file called build.prop with text editor. Find (at the bottom usually) a line that reads: ro.securestorage.support=true. Change "true" to "false" (without quote marks.
Save build.prop and reboot your device
If you use xposed, go to the xposed installer and install the framework again. reboot.

Sounds like your internet is to blame. It's not loading the page fast enough. It's done it on all of my phones.

How long have you had your device? Mine was lagging the first couple of days, I was pissed off but too lazy to do anything, just thought I'd fix it later when I installed a custom ROM
After a few days the lag just stopped by itself... No idea what happened but I'm happy.

it wasn't the internet load problem, and fyi I have a very fast internet.
as I explained I found the solution and the lag is gone.
I also cleared data of S health as suggested
any ways my phone is as smooth as it can be.
the phone was lagging the first day I bought it.

After you installed xposed, which you forgot to mention. Glad it's working out for ya.

Yea I'm not rooted but mine was laggy at first and I restored it and it's much better

As ive learned on many previous Samsung phones, always factory reset the phone after you've done initial setup, preferably flash stock rom in odin and then factory reset

Root Access, Can't Uninstall Bloatware

So I'm rooted on my Evo and as far as I can tell I've flashed the stock rom that should allow me to uninstall the bloatware, however, I dont see any uninstall options for that crap like facebook.
Anything I'm doing wrong?
I followed this guide to root and flash. I've tested my root using the "Terminal Emulator" and typing "su" and it returned a "#"
Thanks XDA, I love most of you
You know you need to uninstall from your computer using adb
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
I've installed Android Debug Bridge but I was under the impression that rooting my phone would allow me to do things on my phone, such as install and uninstall what I want.
Could you explain the process more or send me to a link that does?
If you want to do it in android you either need console program or a file manager. Root explorer us the best one and easiest. Looks just like a typical explorer, tap the rw/ro button for read only or read write and delete away.
You have to have completed the second part of unlocking nand. Otherwise your only option is using a computer and adb in recovery.
They dont make this easy do they? I would have figured Android to be very open for things like this, I'm starting to feel like I have to "jailbreak" again, only this time it's to remove crap.
This seems like so much work to get rid of facebook and sprint tv.
It took me 10 minutes total including the file downloads. Its a one time thing and there is a learning curve with any new platform.
Aridon, is there a free explorer you'd recommend? I dont mind buying software, just want to make sure I'm not mistaken before I buy something that is worthless to me.
You get a trial on any purchased software in android. After its installed if you go backto market and pull it up again there will be a refund option. So no risk. I think its for 24 hours.
As for a free one I'm not sure when I first started messing around with android I bought it because people said it was the best. I don't have any regrets.
Just remember to tap the top button for rw. Long press brings up options. Menu had an option for multiple file select and other goodies. its very powerful.
Aridon, thanks for everything, just 1 more question. I bought it, and the program is slick. I went to /system/app and deleted facebook, is that all I need to do?
Cause I still see it in the menu
I may have done a bad thing, my phone just reset itself.... I need a trainer to be with me at all times.
So after that restart, the files I thought I deleted are back.
Yes just go into system/app, make sure it says rw up top which means read write access, then select the file, general an .apk and .odex and delete. Not all files have both and some roms don't have any .odex files.
I'll be up for another 30 min or so and I'll keep an eye on this thread in case you have any questions.
Ok that means the second part where you unlocked nand wasn't done correctly. Make sure you go slow, download the files again because they are different and watch for errors.
The only hiccup I had was when I copied the new recovery and other files to my sd and tried to adb push it gave me some kind of can't find file error. I had to reboot and it was fine. It send after the boot I could go back in and adb the files it must have been some kind if a refresh error on the sd while in recovery.
Edit. I'm responding on my evo and in bed so excuse errors.
Go to sleep, I'll resume this thread tomorrow if I'm still having trouble. You Sir, are a life saver. This is why XDA is THE FORUM for anything mobile.
Good night then.
I know it can be a bit of a pain to do this but I promise you it will be worth it. Things have only just started and the custom roms are already awesome. Once we get the source code things are going to be insane over here.
Got it! Everything is working well. However, now my voice mail says it can not download messages.... Rebooted and it's all good.
Facebook and Twitter Free! Also, no more Sprint crap.
Life is good, again.
Another terminal substitute is Android Commander, out is naturally a file explorer that allows transfer and deletion off whatever you want. This program runs in your pc.
As Was mentioned above, root explorer is the easiest way.

So with Android - one simply deletes the application rather than un-installing it? That doesn't cause problems with the system thinking the application still exists somewhere?

It depends on where it is installed. /system/apps do not allow you to just uninstall you have to delete it. One this is done its gone. Obviously if you delete phone.apk you are going to have issues or if you delete a process that is running you may get a force close but for the most part unless you delete an app like people or dialer you are fine. After the single force close everything works properly.
Some custom roms moved programs to /data/app which allows them to be removed the other way.

[Q] APKs won't sideload via adb or a file manager

So I am trying to load a couple of apks I have and it's been no go. On my Epic I usually just dropbox, open, and install. I tried that and initially got the security message. That is already taken care of via nookcolor tools. So that isn't the issue. My issue is every time I go to install I go to Astro, open the file via the "open app manager," it takes me to the info install page...I click install and it loads into the package installer, excellent...and then it just stalls and the progress bar runs and runs but never progresses. This has happened with every apk I have now tried.
Okay...so I figured I'd just go the little more involved (very little, no need to be that lazy, right) route and adb install. Well carp. All goes well, I adb install blahblah.apk and it starts rolling..."570kb blah..etc pkg /blah/temp/blah"...and just hangs there...never to give me the gratifying "success" message. Again, I have tried this with different apks that I know work and the same results. I restored to stock and rerooted, just in case. Same
I am running stock rooted (manualnooter) at this point, just got the nook day before yesterday (one of the many who jumped at the refurbs). Market apps download fine. I'm a blue dot, if that makes any diff. Likely not but meh.
I have searched and googled and not found the answers...but I know I am missing something elementally simple. My luck I'll look like an idiot and it will be a "did you check to see if you had any gas?" broken down car scenario. I'm okay with that, as long as I'm running again. I'm pretty sure I checked all the out of gas scenarios but I likely missed one or two so... any help is much appreciated. Thanks a ton...
I should know better than trying to write before coffee
Well, My answer is not a "check gas" answer. It's pretty dang weird.
1. Download ES Explorer from the market.
2. Start ES Explorer, hit Menu>Settings. Goto Root Options (NEW) and tick both check boxes. Hit allow when it asks you to.
3. Go back twice, until you see your sd card contents. Find the APK on there and select and hold. Hit copy and then hit the 1st button on the row of buttons (it's an icon of an sd card OR a Home icon) If you see a data folder, go in to it. If not, hit the 1st button again.
3. Once in the data folder, go into the app folder. Pull up the little white tab on the bottom. Tap the APK you wanted to install. It will copy. Once you see the APK's icon in the folder, hit the home button and restart. That should have installed it but it is a slow method. Note that you can Multi-Select APK's by pressing the Multi-select button and pasting them all in the /data/app/ folder.
are you sure you have side loading checked
Settings > applications should be the top box.

I think he already took care of that. And he is on stock, so there is no Applications setting.
ikingblack, thank you, thank you!
Not sure why but by doing this it somehow unsnafued the package installer as well (fingers crossed). I went through your instructions with a known good apk that would not install for anything before. And there it was after the copy, paste reboot etc. Not too much to ask for...still was confused as to the why of the normal package installer method not working. So I decided to give it (package inst) a go with another known working apk (I had just tested it on my epic) that previously wouldn't install, repeatedly, and now it installed just like it should. Scratching my head in wonder. It shouldn't be the reboot, as I have do so many times...the only difference is the install instructions and adding ES (I'm leaving astro behind I think). All I know is it is working and I am a happy camper (tent is in the back yard...) Thanks again! cheers!
Sure. Also, you can select all the APK's using the 2-file icon at the top and tapping the APKs, then press-and hold on one of the APk's and then go to data app, and keep tapping the APK's you wanna copy. And then reboot. Enjoy your Nook!
Thanks for this, it fixed it, but I don't know why.
I suffered this issue on my dell streak.
It was working fine a couple of days ago when I installed GetJar.
Suddenly today for no reason I can determine:
All APK's I tried the install button in the package installer was not grayed out, but it would not respond when pressed.
I've just been setting up my streak again and installing a lot of software. I'm guessing something must of gone wrong.
Someone on another post suggested JuiceDefender may have caused it but I've not installed that recently.
In my case I did:
(1) Installed esFileExplorer
(2) Copied an apk to the folder /data/app/ as described above
(3) restarted the phone
This did not install the app for me.
(4) Tried running the apk file again. Suddenly the Install button is clickable again?! The app then installed just fine.
(5) Tried a different apk (without copying to /data/app/)
Now that will install fine?!
This is really weird. I can't replicate the issue now (which is good!)
but I also can't tell which action fixed it.
As said above it may have been installing esfileexplorer and giving it root access.
It may have been the act of copying the file that reset something.
It wasn't the reboot, at lease not on its own as i'd already tried it.
Regardless, thanks for the info.
If anyone sees this issue again you might want to just try installing esfileexplorer and see if apk's will then install.
This might help us identify which bit of the process is creating the fix.
Just found another suggestion if anyone is interested:
Some suggests using the 'Fix permissions' option of Titanium Backup. I have no way to test this.

qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 works for everyone EXCEPT ME

Ever since getting my Razr Maxx HD (XT926) three months ago I've been trying to get rid of the Navigation Bar on the bottom of the screen. I use Button Savior so I'm fine with having the NavBar controls disappear.
Among the most reliable remedies seemed to be upgrading to 4.1.2, at which point many people said that you could simply add the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" to the end of your build.prop file in /system, reboot, and *poof* the NavBar would be gone. My phone, which I bought used, was running a leaked 4.1.1 so, once root for OTA 4.1.2 was discovered, I downgraded to 4.0.4, did the updates to that, then took the OTA upgrade to 4.1.1 (no problem), then took the OTA upgrade to 4.1.2 (no problem). So now I had the latest JB version offered for Verizon XT926 in the US. I know that I'd wiped data at least once along the way. The SafeStrap installation that I used to have was gone, as I expected. I assumed that my phone was as stock as it could be and thus ready for the build.prop edit.
I used the new procedure to root my XT926. At that point all I did was to download and install Root Explorer (needed to do the build.prop edit) and Button Savior (needed for navigation once NavBar was gone). In Root Explorer I navigated to /system, made it R/W, opened build.prop in the stock text editor, added qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 at the end, saved (which backed up the older version as expected), and rebooted.
The first thing I get when my phone boots up is the "SystemUI has crashed" error message. My NavBar is gone but so is my System Bar (a/k/a Notification Bar), which I need and want to be visible. I've read a TON about this and I'm pretty sure I've followed the instructions. Why is this not working for me?
I am just not smart enough to decompile and edit my framework-res.apk file (or whatever the name is) so I'm stuck trying to make the build.prop edit work. What could I be doing wrong?
(also, if I use one of the apps like FullScreen or BottomBar they produce the EXACT SAME result -- SystemUI crashes, NavBar disappears but so does System Bar).
cant help
it works for me as experted

He also tried an app which writes the line to the build.prop and got same results.
AFAIK I had crashes on ICS but since I'm on JB 4.1.2 I never had any issues...

Yes, the edit is entered correctly. I've checked that more times than you can imagine. And I've tried nearly every variation that's been suggested anywhere: with spaces before and after the "=", adding the line ending with "0" first then rebooting then changing the end to "1" then rebooting, putting an empty line at the end of build.prop before adding the edit. No change. Is there any history of an app interfering with this edit? I don't have anything exotic installed I don't think but I use a third party launcher (Go Launcher EX) and then a variety of apps, mostly audio/video, social media and a few basic games. I believe that changes to build.prop take place "below" that kind of activity, though, right? And besides, I made the edit before I installed any of that stuff. I may try a hard reset or something like that but if this works for everyone else then I must just be missing something.
I have had the exact same issue and done the same troubleshooting...sucks!
did you happen to check file properties after you saved, i remember back in the early days of Android if you edited a file, you had to change the properties back to the defaults, not sure if that is still the case, but worth a look.
It can't be done on any stock via build.prop only, and framework edits require a deodexed rom.
I recommend you install CM10 or 10.1. If you prefer safestrap over CWM, then you can use CM10, but without a camera. Fullscreen toggle works perfectly, and I'm able to use PDroid : )
I suppose I should be glad that at least *one* other person is having this problem. Means it's slightly less likely that I'm just incompetent.
As for changing file properties, I didn't change any properties to do the edit other than making /system "RW" in order to be able to edit the file. Could someone tell me what the default values are for build.prop? The most recent edit I've made always shows up correctly when I go back into build.prop, by the way, so I know I'm actually changing the file.
If a rooted stock 4.1.2 can't hide the NavBar with a build.prop edit then this is the first I've read about it, and I've read just about everything that I can find on this subject (including translations of non-English discussions, just in case I could get a new lead from them). Not saying that's not true, just not consistent with what I've read so far.
I'd love to install a CM ROM on my XT926. I've admired Cyanogenmod since I first started fiddling with my Nook Color some years ago. Their crew does some spectacular work. But -- no camera? No Bluetooth? Sometimes wifi or phone call problems? That's too much lost functionality for me. If those remaining few obstacles are someday overcome I'll be all over it though.
ONE LAST QUESTION -- I assumed that, if I "scrubbed" my phone down to the lowest level possible (wipe cache, wipe dalvic, wipe data) I would eliminate whatever weird impediment I have to getting the build.prop edit to work. Is there something else I can do to wipe the phone even MORE thoroughly?
The permissions are RW-R-R, I have had the issue with stock and custom roms (running Foot Through the Floor right now). I wasn't surprised when it didn't work with stock (silly Moto) and I was a little surprised when it didn't work with and of the custom roms I tried, I have no doubt it would work in CM.
I tried it out, it works but you need to reboot after edit, I hot booted and nothing changed, full reboot and it works. hope it helps you.
Just in case this makes the difference, can you tell me what distinguishes a "hot boot" from a "full reboot"?
Having issues myself. Have 4.1.2 rooted, RAZR HD. Added the line above to build . prop with "=0" first shutdown, started back up. Then changed to "=1" saved, shutdown and started back up. System UI FC's.
Wonder if it matters what launcher is being used. I am on GO Launcher. I say this since on home screen I see the GO Launcher menu show up just below bottom of my wallpaper but behind it. I can swipe up to bring up full menu but it is weird how it comes up in background on its own.
Anyone get it to work with GO Launcher?

I just noticed this (missed it first scan through) that you use Go Launcher as well. I do also and am having same issue. I am going to try switching to Apex, Nova or other to see if that is the culprit. If so, I can most likely get used to another custom launcher to gain the extra space.
BUT if anyone doesn't have issues AND is using Go Launcher, please let us know so we can rule that out.
Thanks
I use nova pro and have the issues.

I just tried Apex Launcher and had same FC issue. So guess it isn't specific to any of the launchers (was a long shot anyway). This is just really weird. Some folks swear they have it running on stock 4.1.2 (OTA update) rooted, but many of us have the same and can't get it to work.
I saw one thread where someone mentioned you needed to make sure everything is stock, meaning using TB to unfreeze anything you had frozen, and then give it a go. Problem is I'll want to refreeze much of that bloatware from VZW so not sure if that helps or not.
So frustrating......
At this stage in the trail and error I wonder what other variables could be the key. It's not the version (4.1.2). It's not launcher (problems with Go, Apex and Nova plus the stock launcher). Making everything stock didn't help me -- I flashed a brand new version of 4.1.2, installed ONLY Button Savior (for navigation) and Root Explorer (to edit build.prop). Same problems as usual. I assume it's not the rooting utility as I believe only one exists.
OK, how about some weirder ideas. Has everyone done the build.prop edit with Root Explorer? Maybe there's a flaw in that tool. I just tried editing the build.prop to put IN the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 line, then temporarily suspended root with VooDoo, then rebooted to see if it would behave if it thought it wasn't rooted. Same result. Maybe the guy saying you can't make this work on rooted stock ROMs was right Still, I'll keep looking, and sharing.

Root Explorer is what I used.
For the other guy having trouble, it hasn't been mentioned yet; did you set the owner and group for the file to root? If the file was ever stored on the sdcard or pushed there then moved, those permissions might make a difference as well. Its a good security measure in the case that it isn't relevant in any case... don't want a wild website writing to your build.prop file, for example.

I used ES File Explorer (and then you have to use Root Explorer menu option to set r/w prior to opening build.prop).
Regarding the rest of the post above. Not sure what the question is. I never did anything to the build.prop file other than set ES File Explorer to r/w on everything, then edited the build.prop file, saved, checked to ensure it was edited right, then rebooted. So the 'file' has never been anywhere other than in /system. When I check the properties on the build.prop file I see rw- r-- r-- (this the same whether or not /system is set to RW or just RO). I believe these are correct (default) settings, but let me know if that is not correct.
Anyone out there that has this working on Stock 4.1.2 it would be nice to know more (i.e. is 4.1.2 the OTA or leaked version, did they use motochopper root method (only one I thought), persmissions on file, where did they place the qemu line in the file, etc, etc).

BTW... anyone look into testing the framework-res.apk option? Sounds in-depth and much more work (not to mention chance of screwing things up). It would be new to me to decompile, etc, etc, but am not scared to try, just thought I would ask if anyone else already has. Also, not sure if that option is for the 4.1.2 OTA version (verizon in my case).
Thanks.

I was kind of just pulling at straws, and trying to answer two posts at the same time, sorry for the confusion. My habit, especially before unlocking the bootloader, is to push things to the sdcard then moving them and setting the right permissions and assingining the correct group and user.
As you've explained things, I don't know why it shouldn't work. Mine is a 4.1.2 OTA. It was originally rooted before upgrading and using Voodoo root keeper but between that and Supersu paid version I was able to reinsert root again after a factory reset, which was a stroke of luck as others lost it. I don't think it would matter which root method is used but I could be wrong; esentially its just allowing us to access the build.prop file to edit at all. I don't remember if I had modified the build.prop before or after the reset. I know that it was working both before and after I unlocked the bootloader though. As for the placement of the line, I put it at the end. I also, out of habit, hit enter for a new line for this type of thing. Afterwards, though, there is now new things that Pimp My Rom has inserted (Some of the tweaks in that package are old and I'd advise people to stick with close to stock as possible when using it unless they know what those lines mean; and there's some build.prop myths still floating around XDA that are not good ones, one of which I know Pimp My Rom uses and looks pretty apealing to select). So, now I have some stuff after it. If there were other things added to your build.prop, then perhaps moving the line to the end of where the default configuration ended... grabbing at straws again with this last sentance but in the lack of information I'm just trying to be helpful
Perhaps if people also with this problem, in addition to answering your question about the root method they used, also posted which carrier branding they had it might reveal something, or rule it out. <-Put that in bold for you
I am VZW with Nova Pro, and I get the systemUI FC as well. After much research, I haven't heard of too many people with PHONES that have been successful in this hack, so I tried it on my GTab 2, and same thing.
After spending entirely too much time looking into this, I purchased Full!Screen+, set the apps that I wanted full screen, and I'm set (oddly enough, this didn't work on my GTab, so I also purchased Hide Bar for that device. I prefer FullScreen+ because the truth is, there's only certain apps that I care about being full screen (Netflix, games, youtube...).
The biggest problem with FS+ is that it hides the notifications. Honestly, I don't really care about that either when I'm doing one of these other activities. After all, we have a notification light.

Jiayu S3 viruses?

Hello,
I am having through a major problem here. I am trying to figure how got into this and solve this problem.
I am new to android but generally and experienced user. Bought my Jiayu from vickmall pre-rooted about 4 months ago and realised that my phone if infected when random apps where installing themselves from time to time (once very two weeks eg.).
Generally I am installing Google apps only except Adway and a few other essential non google play apps.
Also I am careful with what I installed and most of apps ever download where legit (e.g facebook etc).
Thanks to SDMaid I found a virus SYSTEM app hidden from normal app explorer with the name "Pine" and package name org.slaughter.brilliant. The name itself got me very suspicious. I also noticed that "install from unknown sources" was automatically turned on each time I opening my Wifi or Data.
So I exported the apk and scanned through various online scanner giving me obviously that is harmful.
e.g anubis.iseclab org/?action=result&task_id=18ea3597ad6a61394e5335fefcbc86899&format=html
Un-installed it through SDMaid and then the nightmare came...
I am having numerous of app ads several times a day to the notifications bar or as a shortcut icons that go to google play. I see from time to time a toast says "Downloading" without having any visible result.
You realise that this is not as common as a rogue app can be, besides the fact I am acting like a paranoid at the moment ....
With SDMaid again through latest modified files I saw 3 files in the ES Explorer folder named "recomm" that had a list with all this spammy apps that I get notifications. I was quite upset and though that ES Explorer (quite known app I think) was packed with rogue apps!?. So I deleted it but nothing. Ads came again the other day.
I tried to see from what app came the ad notification "e.g Holo Launcer" by pressing the notification for a few secs. I saw that it came from trebuchet launcher...
I tried scanning my phone with avg, malwarebytes and kaspersky. I got something only with kaspersky the following file in a .kpsh folder (related to com.kpsh.sdk.KpshService of trebuchet?).
virustotal com/en/file/6871be33ba862c4594ffee60444f7cf296cb657e4f1384a27c1be6a5da0d7078/analysis/
Erased it but it seems to recreate itself again from time to time.
Also scanned trebuchet and settings app here and got these.
virustotal com/en/file/000f796f06f193f2e61eb007d374a06d3211ddb7e1facf3c386621e1f024b828/analysis/1442420388/
virustotal com/en/file/bbb2783fb9a2ad9aa94fc71d6b78179917e8669ec266cdd5758fd1e46f853bdf/analysis/1442420356/
I decided to erase the whole .kpsh folder to see if that solves the problem till now.
My mistake I believe is leaving "Unknown sources" on as it was by default and got to this mess without know what app did all this. I believe that I was going to get a warning before something got installed but unfortunately...no.
I don't know if this was prepacked or something or was totally my mistake somehow but I am slowly giving hope away.
Any suggestion would be very helpful.
Reflash the whole thing is my very very last option since I am not familiar with the process.
Thank you all for the time reading this.
Hi,
I've experienced exactly the same problem a couple of days ago. I used the Addons Detector-app to find out that the Trebuchet-app was responsible for the icon and message ads. Unfortunately it was part of the default apps and couldn't be deleted via the apps manager.
I first installed the Nova Launcher-app as a replacement for the Trebuchet Launcher 3
and activated it (Apps -> Start Page). Then I stopped the Trebuchet app, installed the Root Uninstaller-app, enabled the request of root access (Security Superuser), started the Root Uninstaller-app, chose System Apps and selected the Trebuchet Launcher-app. After pressing the delete button and confirming the root access the app was moved to the waste basket. That's it!
I found that "install from unknown sources" was several times enabled again without my action. AVG antivirus detected ap. "Education" and "Settings" ? as malware. I have frozen "Education" - it cant't uninstall, and after that unknown sources does not change it's status..
Find com.android.fallen if exists in system\app and delete it (use file explorer with root).

Same thing here but recently I got very tired and did "reflash the whole thing".
Ingredients were: Smart Phone Flash Tool, the right USB driver, a lot of RTFM and the latest 5.1.1 Beta (#4) from Jiayu Germany. Even though it is beta, I already prefer it over that bugged OS it came with.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I checked the beta #4 at virustotal, no probs!

Decided to flash to jiayu germany 5.1.1 beta 10. I managed to get the rom but the flashing tutorial I found is in german.
Do you have instructions of backup/reflash/recover or whatever in English please?

Use SP Flash Tool on your computer. If you come from KK (such as perhaps your stock ROM) and go to to LP (such as the Beta10 ROM) then it is important to choose 'firmware upgrade' in SP Flash Tool. That's because partition layout changed (LP has one extra partition, not sure what it is for). Once on LP you can choose 'download' to flash further LP upgrades. To backup/recover a ROM one typically uses a custom recovery (mostly TWRP on S3). Beta10 comes prepackaged with LP partition aware TWRP. Beta10 also has GApps, so there is no need to flash GApps on top of it.
Success

It's a bit hard to remember my odyssey though webspace back then but I bookmarked some stuff... but here is a pretty decent recipe: some link*
The SP Flash tool was fairly easy but to use get the drivers running was problem. Tried some things without success and got lucky with the same site: some other link**
Altogether:
1. Get SP Flash tool and the right USB driver and make it work (eg. ADB driver)
2. Get the ROM
3. Choose the ".scatter"-file in SP Flash tool and flash
It's some weeks now and I also vaguely remember that the phone had to be off (well, not really sure but you'll see).
! Don't forget to check any downloaded at least with virustotal - I did that back then but the DL-links might have changed.
!! Use it at your own risk! Some kittens might get killed, or even worse: your gets bricked.
* and ** Alas, my apologies, I am not allowed yet to post links but if you google for androidxda sp flash you should find it instantly or just let me know.
Okay, I'm probably a little late for this, but hopefully this will be somewhat helpful to other people having the same problem.
I myself have purchased a Jiayu S3 Advanced a few months back: while the price is hard to beat, it comes with that ROM that sometimes starts installing "random" apps on its own. At first it was bearable, but at some point it started downloading multiple apps every day.
After some analysis (pretty much looking for data usage by different apps) I figured that the problem was with the Trebuchet launcher (which was the only app in that list that I didn't recall using - and also, why would it need Internet access?).
So, what I've done was rather straightforward: install Google Now launcher (but any other launcher should do), uninstall that other launcher. Worked like a charm!
Also, I've heard a few people complaining about this sort of problem with Chinese smartphones: watch out and consider that next time you buy a new smartphone! I know I will

Need some help of a rare sort... deleted folders arent deleting!

Ive purchased the full version of No Bloat, trying to get things more manageable on my device.
There are things that are not removing, despite me telling them to.
in system/app/flipboarddebriefing/arm/<somefilename>.odex
this is a reminant of an app i have already removed...so i wanted to fully delete it... but it wont delete!! Root browser says it deleted, for a quick second... but the damn thing stays there.
i *am* rooted, i *have* removed system apps with other apps (at first uninstall master, but since ive discovered that wont recover properly on my device, im using nobloat now).
Why if i have root, and am using a root based browser, are things NOT removing as though i am not rooted??!? I downloaded root checker today, and yes i am in fact rooted successfully.... so what gives? i DONT understand this, not one bit.
Im on rooted but stock samsung galaxy s5 neo, with twrp recovery installed, and a full nandroid backup made. successfully.
I dont understand why some root features are going smooth while others are almost like in high school when deep freeze was installed on the library computers, where no matter what you did, next reset (or in my case, not even a reboot required!) things were exactly as they were *before* you messed wth them, things unchanged.
why is this happening to me?? i never did enable knox so it cant possibly be that... can it??
ETA i have tried going in through the file explorer in twrp... but even in there i cant access the system folder at all, let alone delete things. A few days ago, some things in another folder werent deleting, so i went into twrp and ultimately deleted them, and those did stay deleted.
I just plain dont understand. s2 = root = do whatever the heck you want. s5=root=well remove some apps for you but its remains will stay on your system, for-evvvv-errr.
is there some sort of build in deep freeze type app that i can go in and get rid of (some how, if it will let me, frig).
Can anyone help me with this? Still not working properly...

The reason why it keeps coming back is becoz some of the apps are PRELOADED by default and to get rid of them for good you need to go to the root of those apps.
Use any root explorer app
1. Check /preload/ folder..make sure you delete the apps there as well
2. Check /System/CSC/ and look for any /System/app/ and /System/priv-app/ and do the same as above.
Hmm... I'll give it a look, but I even had problems with deleting data from a user app in the same manner...
Eta, I have nothing in my preload folder at all.. At least not that root browser is seeing.
Tried Flipboard deleting the odex file again, still not working.
Any other suggestions?

Which root/file explorer are you using?
EDIT: Ok I see you said Root browser.
Try another file explorer like ES file explorer
