What does Device Maintenance actually verify? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey guys, I was just wondering, what is Device Maintenance actually checking when it runs? I am asking because I only had scores of Excellent (98,99) 2 days ago, and since yesterday I only get 86, 89 and so on... Did no install any new app or smth. Any thoughts? Thanks

Anyone downloading an update?

My friend called and asked me why his phone was downloading like crazy. Trying to explain to him how to check for updates is like trying to teach my dogs quantum mechanics...
So has anyone else's phone been downloading something? If so, can you check your DDMS log for a URL to the ZIP?
Are you thinking that maybe the fabled "cupcake" update is coming down from T-Mobile? My phone was syncing like crazy last night...but that's about it.
Please don't joke around with cupcake!
my phone was sync'ing alot last night too

Syncing has nothing to do with it
yea it weird
i have noticed that my phone has been randomly downloading things
Yea i too see it updating. Ive seen it atleast 3 maybe 4 times in the past 24 to 36 hours...after thinking about it its probably NewsRob that was updating articles...

Today I had another update...

And Im still on 1.6. The update was 151mb and was my second one in a month. There is 2 new apps in the launcher, Creatouch(makes patterns when you touch the screen) and TopApps. This last update I had was around 4 weeks ago and was around 70mb.
The setting in my phone now are:
Firmware: 1.6
Baseband 1.1.31
Kernel: 2.6.29-rel semc-androidATsemc 2
Build: R2BA026
Any ideas why I keep getting useless updates that barely make a change, other than adding apps I cant remove?
Cheers, Phil (eagerly awaiting 2.1)
PS, the re-captcha on registration is bloody hard, took me 15-16 goes to beat it, almost gave up

Cheers anyway!
And sorry for another useless post
Nothing at all.
Just so many people over excited about the update they think anything and everything is an update.
they get excited every time they get a text and their phone beeps thinking its the update.
and before they actually check if it is, they come here and post about it.
so yea, we get quite a lot of these threads, lol
you guys have your pussys jumping.....jesus!!!! i`m tired to see topis like this

[Q] OTA update (when?)

I just bought my MT4G and have had it up and running for 9 hours now. It says I'm running Android 2.2, so I assume that means I have not received the OTA update yet. That wouldn't concern me, except my friend who got the phone the exact same time as me as already received the OTA notification. The only difference between the two phones is my friend's has been on Wi-Fi the whole time. Should that help, or is there something else I can do to request the update?
theres a thread on this, but U can't really do anything but wait. theres no rhyme or reason to when. Took my 3 days. doing *#*#checkin#*#* suppose to check for it, but didnt help me

After 48 hours you can call tech support and try to get on the batch push list. That will take up to 7 days, possibly. I just hit my 7 day period late last night -- still no update. Taking my phone in to swap it today since that was the next resolution the last call to tech support gave me.

Hmm that's discouraging. I'd really like to not have to bring my phone back in. Hopefully it shows up soon. If it hasn't within 48 hours, I'll call tech support. Thanks for the info.
It's surprising that my buddy got his update within a few hours and while connected to Wi-Fi. Cellular data wasn't working yet because his account hadn't been provisioned correctly, yet he still got the update before me!
You can force the update yourself now so it doesnt really matter either way... if you just want the update and not root just do the first half and stop when it gets into the rooting part... but the only reason i can think of for you wanting the update badly is so you can root it :/ but maybe not... anyway heres the instructions:
[GUIDE] Forcing update 2.2.1
hope that helps

Samsung Focus 1.4 updates

I got a revison 1.4 of this phone a week ago, and the phone has been better than the Captivate I left behind. I got bored of Andriod, and needed a change. I have been searching the web regarding updates to the revision of this phone, and haven't seen anything recent. I am on software version 7004, and I am aware about the different memory used in 1.4 compared to 1.3. I don't want to unlock the phone, and force an update. That's the reason I got away from Andriod to begin with. I spent too much time dicking around with custom Gingerbread ROM's. So, anyone heard of when updates will start hitting for this phone?

IIRC from the WP team blog of last week, they are still working on/testing the updates for Focus rev 1.4 and refuse to give any timeline.

Did you get it at an AT&T store? If you did you might might to take it back and try to swap it out.
I bought my Focus a few weeks ago and ran into the same issue. I had the sales rep check the the rev# when he was putting the SIM card in. It was 1.4 so I asked for another handset. Unfortunately, that was the last one in the store at the time. He told me take it and if I didn't get the update in a week or two to come back and he'd swap it out. I went back a week later and he grabbed another new Focus. We checked the the rev# and it was 1.3. He swapped it out at no charge. When I plugged it into Zune it updated through NODO. Still waiting like everyone else for the security patch.
i got a Focus last may 15 and i checked if i had 1.3 or 1.4 after finding out that issue and thank God im on 1.3m i got it from an ATT store
Guys how do you check to see what version you have? I have one coming Monday from AT&T online and you guys have managed to scare me stiff.

You have to check the little white sticker behind the battery cover. I decided to exchange mine today for a 1.3. I found an ATT store that had 19 in stock, and only had to check one box to find a version 1.3. The weird thing about it is that this was a new shipment of 19, and probably all were version 1.3. From my past experiences with Samsung, I decided to play it safe with the exchange. The new version 1.3 updated without any problems. Regardless of who is to blame, it still strikes me that the version 1.4 can't even receive a February or March update.

Got to the dialpad and key in ##634# to enter the diagnosis app (or just open the diagnosis app from the app list if you have already done this)
Enter in *#2222# to see the FTA Hardware Version. It will either say Rev1.3 or Rev1.4

Android 8 update issue

Hi guys,
I bought a htc u ultra when I was living in Australia but early this year I moved to Sweden. Now my issue is that android 8 is out, but my phone can't find the ota update. How come? I have received other ota updates in Sweden but the oreo update will not be found. Is there a way I can get it pushed to the phone?
I've contacted htc, but they are bloody useless, they just tell me to contact Google which I can't even find a email address or anything for help.
Hoping some bright spark can help me.
No help for you. Your device CID is for Australia and for this region the update is not yet released.
So why couldn't the retard at htc just tell me that? I swear they have the worst customer support ever. Told them this is my last htc mobile

Like they care about you. Statistically you got yourself a budget phone that is pretending to be of premium level. That means your next purchase will be in 2-3 years.
I'm blunt but that is life. I made my decision of getting this piece knowing there is almost no community and is already forgotten by manufacturer. It was cheap so I didn't care if I brick it by customizing. It the moment I'm working on a dirty port of LineageOS to it so I won't rely on HTC (unless I hit the kernel issues). If succeed I might consider sharing it bit wider.
But anyway - don't get too emotional. There is literally nothing that great with Oreo to get angry over. You could actually flash the LeDroid 2.1. It has been reported to work with Nougat backbone. So you get Oreo with Nougat Radio and Kernel. But then really say bye to HTC direct updates if they ever happen.

HTC contacted me via social media to inform me that as of today, May 31st, the Android 8.0 Oreo update is available for HTC U Ultra phones purchased outright in Australia! Mine updated to 2.21.710.3 today.

Then I suggest you to make TWRP copy of the system partition just after upgrade and share it with @LeeDroid so he could update his custom ROM also for Australia.
I just got the upgrade too - I can't believe how laggy it is now.
Haven't performed a reset yet, hoping it will clear up after a few days.
Extremely disappointed...
Battery seems *slightly* better however!

I did a factory reset and first few weeks was ok - much better than on nugat. But now after two month of use I see that slowdowns and lags are more common. Especially when the phone gest worm it can literatury stars to crawl.
Actually I'm thinking to upgrade to U11
Update: the battery is absolutely shocking now.
Tested it yesterday, left on a table after charging all night to 100%
Screen turned on twice throughout the day and after 6 hours and 25 minutes it's at 1% and the power off warning is shown.
Spoke to HTC support who have ignored my last 3 messages so won't be getting a HTC phone again.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Was a fantastic phone after first purchasing it (first 3 months) but now after 6 months - shocking

Did you try a factory reset?
Or check e.g. gsam batters stats from play store and have a look at doze/active stats or warlocks and so on, mostly there is an app (or system) running in background and consuming battery

Yep,
it's been reset 3 times so far.
I did have a look at gsam, what a great application - thanks!
Have a bunch of wakelocks - mainly around Google Fitness (I definitely don't use it) and a bunch of wifi 'wlan rx wakelock' too so currently troubleshooting that,
One thing I did notice however - on attempting to clear the cache partition, I have some notes in the 'recovery mode' screen
"handle_cota_install install cwpkg to /cache/cota/cwpkg.zip
handle_cota_install install cwprop to /cache/cota/cw.prop
E: cant open /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity
handle_cota_install: Cant mount /sdcard"
That battery one doesn't sound very promising.... perhaps that is one of the reasons why? The phone doesn't know what size battery is installed because it can't read the capacity configuration file?
I'm not rooted so I can't check to see if it's present myself
zzz
HTC should fix this sort of thing - i'm not sending it away to get looked at/reflashed for 3 weeks
Remove/never update the google app
