Software Update From T-Mobile?

Hi everyone, first time posting!
I just received a notification that T-Mobile has an update for my Vibrant. Did anyone else get this? Could this be the GPS fix everyone's been talking about? I'm installing it right now!

I tried to manually update it but I got the same old message "no firmware! "

It didn't end up going so great... It hanged on the Vibrant screen after the update. Doing a nandroid restore right now.

My first post so here it goes.
I just finished downloading the update and its not 2.2. I have noticed a few slight changes though. First being that websites seem to open faster and scroll smoother, it could just be me though. The menu that is brought up when you are using the browser is different and has a brightness control on it.
There is a new HD camcorder application and a task manager application. I have only had it running for a couple minutes. In not sure if there is a gps fix cause I'm in my basement so it its rare for me to get any signal down here.
I also just found out youtube videos have a HQ button on them now.

Just checked with mine and I get the "no firmware" as well.

So how do theses OTA updates work? Does everyone get it at the same time or does it update few people at a time? Anyone know?

Will I get any update if my phone is rooted and has lag fix installed?

Usually a message pops up at the top in your notification bar that an update is available

Yes the build number says ECLAIR.UVJI6

it kinda makes sense that t mobile would begin pushing updates today. They were supposed to announce this week (which would mean today or tomorrow) when they were gonna be releasing updates.

This seems legit. People on both Android Forums and T-Mobile Forums are reporting the update. Can't be a troll

I'm already on JI6 so it's all good!
GPS has been OK with this version, over WiFi it's really not going to work well for some reason. Jumps around all over the place.
Tracking has been reliable overall. Using it with the Root Wireless app to track my network coverage it was very quick to lock in.
Samsung posted this on Facebook as well.
The Gallery is still problematic.
Reception has been EXCELLENT, overall if this is what we would have gotten back in July people would have been much happier.

How long does it take to roll out to the majority of the masses?

If someone uploads the file of the update online, can we manually install it without rooting?

I call bluff. Why is it always a new user first post that happens to get it. No one else either but you when the forum is waiting eagerly. Could be possible, but for now I call shananigins..

Keep Coming Back...

I find myself constantly refreshing the android dev forum, scouring thru developers websites, and stalking their twitter pages, looking for an update to the latest ROM. I almost never use my vibrant for what it is anymore...a phone! This website has ruined me. I spend my whole day pressing F5 over and over and over. Flashing, reflashing, flashing, reflashing, ERROR, ODIN, flashing, reflashing. Im sick, i need help. I can see it now....FOX news reporting "Kids trying new drug...street name "XDA"." Its a massacre.

For real dude I was watching a medical show as well a looking through xda and heard the heart rate monitor in the background and cause I've done so much to this phone I thought I did something wrong I put it up to my ear like oh crap that can't be good and my wife was like that's the tv dumb ass
This site did take me off of facebook though so I've got that going for me I'm in love with my vibrant there it at least has vibrant in the thread once edit: twice

Whats even worse I'm getting a laptop just for the purpose of having odin handy..24 hours being a dad and working 24 hours xda and modding cause of course this site has a mobile app my days are so much longer now

I want to agree with everyone's elses comments on here. I feel like all the other people on this subject. Looking for the next best ROM for the phone. Always trying to make it better.

Now that the froyo storm has passed & R12 is in the recalibration stage I think, or at least I hope, I'll keep the staking down by half. I'm happy, for now.
Waiting patiently for 2.3 nexus $ release... Lol.

Yes I'm in this boat as well. My wife keeps yelling at me to put the damn phone down. She even complained to her therapist about my flash addiction!

also ever since i started flashing roms i feel the need to learn how to create my own roms and modifications. Luckily my laziness overcomes this feeling, but still.

No kidding right as soon as I get my laptop I think I'm going to try to make live wallpapers or something like that at least I won't feel like I'm wasting time although everyone else that I know that has a vibrant ain't got $#&! On mine they ask me what I did I say read things on xda for a month and a half ps reading for hours on end for a month straight = a whole lot of reading

haha true. but my friends dont know **** about technical stuff and most of them just have messaging phones (LG Vu, Sharp FX, blah blah) so if i try to explain anything about my phone to them there like clueless haha. And im not even going to bother talking to people who have an iphone. I wonder that spell they are put under when they buy that phone so that no matter what, they think there phone is 100x better than anyone else's when its not lol. but this isnt a iphone bashing thread so ill leave it at that.

lol this is also what's happening to me today! especially the froyo roms are on the hype today. when i wake up the very first thing that i will do is to look if there's an update on the development section.

Hi my name is 12paq.
I have been modding hard since my Pocket PC days. I have increased to 8-10 hours a day since getting my Vibrant and trying flashing for the first time. Don't blame Odin or Rom Manager, they are just delivery devices.
My wife has left me, my daughter won't talk to me and my dog left me for another dude. (Sounds like all Country music).
I refuse to believe I have a problem. It is everyone else that has a problem!
Now back to reading XDA. Tonight I'm mixing it with top shelf Gin for extra buzz. Now leave me alone!

Xda was like crack for me (I love crack ) back when I had my g1. It was awful, hours and hours each day, up all night. I was so burnt out I was actually relieved to get the mytouch 3g and keep it stock, I finally realized how great android just is, of course I flashed update zips early but I didn't modify it, I finally rooted my nexus to try 720 which completely blew but that's it I love my vibrant and I want froyo bad but these threads are the same as they were back with my g1, there's always an issue, there just isn't any rom as stable as stock, the ones that are close are basically stock anyway so what's the point? Faster maybe, but not as stable. Anytime I check a rom thread people are asking for help, that crap has helped me stay on the wagon. If there was a froyo zip for unroored vibrants though, I'd jump on it...

Hate too pull you off the wagon but T-Moble and Sammy aren't known for their well vetted bug free updates. The ones on XDA seem better supported. Many fans here of many Froyo updates. Just wait and don't be the first to try the first version unless you want to play beta tester, a good cause too.
I'm using Tmo stock 2.2 fro Eugene with Klang kernel and it rocks with far less bugs then any crud official. You see the complaints here way more then the successes.
Come on... try it... I dare ya... just once you'll like it...

This **** spreads too. I got one of my friends hooked on flashing custom roms to his old WinMo phone and he's now followed my footsteps and picked up a Vibrant because of how much he loves to play with the new roms I flash every week. I have another friend who's on AT&T who has been following the Captivate forum so he is now wanting to get one so that he can try the xda drug for himself. Haha!

I have four friends here at work who has a Vibrant since I picked one up. People always asks me about Android phones here as well because they like what they see.
I'll join you in the Dealer club!

I tried to get my doctor to understand my sickness, and maybe find some medication. But....while researching this disease he just became addicted himself and now has closed his practice and i have yet to hear from him...

This was a fun post to joke around on and a really positive antithesis to some of the negative garbage dumping going on on this site now.

Friend got the new market place

Back story.. So my friend and I got our phones the same day both samsung epics running stock 2.1. I am rooted and have some basic knowledge about our phones, he has no knowledge about root or anything android related. Well I saw his phone today and he has the new market place (2.3 look) while mine has the new tabs for comment and related. We are both on stock 2.1 same hardware and everything. Why would and how would his get the new one. He didn't install it. It just showed up for him about 4 days ago. It was bugging me and figured you guys could inform me on what's going on.

Not everyone has this yet. It's still on the roll-out.
I don't have it available for my SGS & SGT in the UK.

no new ui for me yet. I hate one of the new changes in this update. The one where they have reduced that time down for refunds from 24 hours .... to 15 minutes!!!!!
I generally only use it when my daughter has been clicking away and bought things she shouldn't have but 15 mins is ludicrious.

go to the market and leave it on the homescreen for 5 minutes, then exit, when you go back into the market the new UI should appear

u can find .apk in previous threads, just browse it. u can manually update it, it works without a hitch (i'm on official JPO).

Oh nice, I just went into Market and yes its new, I am in the UK, it looks quite nice

I got it pretty much the day after it was announced, which surprised me. I find it a little laggy though?

2.3.3 DZ update today (1/8/11) UK!

Hi Guys.
Just checked my phone this morning for any updates and low and behold, the 2.3.3 update!
I'm on an unbranded DZ in the UK, so at least it's finally come through!

All I've noticed so far is:
- Menu screen for the apps has changed (also includes a "frequent" tab for your most used apps)
- Red line for spelling mistakes when doing a message
- General tweaks and updating of certain functions
- For me at least, a little bit faster
That's what I've noticed so far, although I haven't properly played with it yet

Upgrading now, always get nervous when doing this!

picasa web albums sync is doing "force close" frequently after the update. i don't notice much speed/performance change, if any. lets see whether there are any more pleasant or unpleasant changes.
anyway, happy that the update has come at last. its been a long wait, specially amongst the germans around me who already had the update for weeks

After a morning of playing around with adb trying to root and failed so many times...i can confirm im downloading the 2.3.3 GB update for the UK unbranded desire z...im gonna have to do with stock for now..till they find easier holes in this..lol..

I haven't had any problems with the Picasa web album force closing, that's one thing I've found to be quite useful.
Hopefully you'll find more pleasant than unpleasant from now on!

UK OTA Desire Z
Yup, shows up for me too, also unbranded (orange sim) Desire Z.
I haven't done it yet, waiting to see if phone is still unlockable afterwards, but I did grab the URL from the logs and shared it in another thread if anyone wants to actually OTA zip file to play with.

Just reinstall the picasa web albums plugin, helped me and others in the other GB update thread..

What was all the hype about? Juts updated mine and apart from a few visual chnages, there isnt much to the update! maybe its a little bit snappier but there is almost no improvement from Froyo. So what was the big deal all the cry babies were crying for?

has anyone managed to play around and root the phone??

helped, thanks. i had just stopped the sync to get rid of the annoyances, but uninstalling will not tempt me to use it again. in fact, dont think i need it that much, so i will install when i really need it.
otherwise i am waiting to find out if the 2 major bugs have been fixed:
phone going off once in a while and only turning back on again when battery is removed and reinserted
text messages completely disappearing every now and then

Phone has done the going off twice since update on 1 August 2011.

I have the option to upgrade but ur puttin me off a little with this phone turnin off issue lol

Noticed so far:
Battery is much imropved. Been on one charge for almost 30 hours now and still got four bars. This never happened on 2.2.1.
My pictures havent disapperared in gallery (yet)
Phone hasnt gone dead and required a battery pull (yet)
Funny sound when flicking between weather in diferent cities
