Uninstall harmful app. 'Mobile tracker' can damage your device.' - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I have a notification with white triangle and exclamation mark in middle, in black and white colour. "Uninstall harmful app". 'Mobile tracker' can damage your device. There is an uninstall button on the notification.
I've had my note3 since 2013, and I've not had this notification before. I have not installed any tracker. Phone is unrooted. Some forums say that 'mobile tracker' is a default part of samsung phone software so it comes with the phone.
But if that's the case, why am I getting this notification? AND why am I only getting it now, and never before.
Cheers

my mum is experiencing the same issue. Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
She does not have the app installed that I am aware off however she does have a samsung phone. She has had her phone for well over two years and this is the first time it's shown up. It doesn't say who its from.
Thanks for your reply

Scan your devices using a trusted anti-malware like malwarebytes, eset... from playstore to be sure this is not a clickbait.
If nothing found after scan, it's most likely a false positive from google security alert. To disable it, go to Google settings -> Security and uncheck "Scan Device for Security threats" then reboot.

Finally a reasonable answer between so many in other websites from people who were suggesting "solutions" as absurd and lazy as formatting the OS right away.
I also had the same issue explained here and decided to scan my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone with Avast and MalwareBytes out of fear it might have been the work of a sophisticated malware. Both didn't find anything, so I guess it was most likely a Google Security false positive (and it makes sense it would have found a cell tracker because I read Samsung phones have a cell tracker app installed by default).

I got Malwarebytes to scan, it found nothing wrong. I noticed the 'deep scan' in Malwarebytes was either greyed out or had a tick and was greyed out after doing the first update. I have tried to find that option to tick/untick deepscan but I cannot find it. It did say something about some options cannot be unticked, was that maybe one of them, it deep scans no matter what? Took 15mins for the scan if that sounds like a deep scan. Scanned a second time and only took 17sec, same number of apps/files. Mobile tracker was not one of the apps listed as installed/running. But it is listed under 'all' in application manager.
With eset, it wanted an email for registration etc but I went cancel and then it worked. Did an indepth scan, found nothing only took 2mins. I enabled detect potentially unsafe applications, and potentially unwated applications was on by default. I did not do the 'eset livegrid'. Real time proteciton enabled, as was with malware bytes.
I did check if 'mobile tracker' was in recent apps, eg holding in the home button, it was not. It is not 'running' but it is listed under 'all' in settings > device > application manager.
To the other people with this issue, how long has this issue happened? Has it ever happened before? I've had this phone for 5years and never had this notification before, why would it[google security] suddenly out of no where report it now? That's what's confusing.

I assume you have kitkat as os version.
In fact, the only thing that change frequently (silently updated) on your device is "google play services" wich is responsible (not only) of security checks of installed apps.

Got the same message a few days back (probably when most of these posts started to pop up everywhere) and again today. Like for the rest of people here, it is an unsolicited, uninstalled app. My main concern is that pressing "OK" to uninstalling it might actually install malware. How can I know that the message is genuine?

[Q] Disable all automatic updates

I searched about this but I can not find a solution I want to disable all automatic app updates I only found answer do disable automating updates one by one in the Market app but I want to disable them all for I do not waste traffic when I am on 3G data with Wi-Fi I am OK. Does deactivating auto app sync in background under sync and account config do the trick? Even if it does I prefer the option disable all that I think the Market app once add because I need that some apps communicate with the net.
Thanks in advance
Poke around in settings, I know I have automatic updates disabled but I can' t seem to find the settings. In order for me to update, I have to go in to "My Apps" and manually update them.
This isn't the perfect solution to your quandary, but I don't think there is one...
In the Market app, go to Settings, and under Notifications change it from "Notify me" to "Do not notify me".
This will at least keep Market from checking for updates in the background (if I'm not mistaken), and your apps won't be automatically updated unless you open the Market app (again, if I'm not mistaken).
I seen that option but though that was just for notification purposes but In the computing world intuition is not always respected so I belive that will do the trick.
I will try it and post results
i am puzzled by this, but unless you have some sort of ungodly amount of apps installed you can go through the 'my apps' section and uncheck the update automatically check box and since it is off by default you will never have to do it again
Care to explain a little better are you referring disable automating updates one by one in the Market app as I said in my original post?
Thanks
You could also try Droid Wall and try to disable the Market from using 3G Data, and only use your home internet data or whatever.
In Titanium Backup, you can do this. Hardware menu button>more>market auto updates. This option may only be available in the paid version, I dunno. But Titanium is an awesome app and well worth the money.

I tried that but in the first day of August in less then a hour I used all my traffic in my 100mb data plan and I was just reading sites with no heavy java or images, called the phone company and they confirmed that was traffic.
"In the Market app, go to Settings, and under Notifications change it from "Notify me" to "Do not notify me" actually I think this only worsened the issue because when i lost all my allowance I did not see any notification of updates happening if I would be notified i would try to cancel the updates as i already did a few times although this option works randomly.
This issue is pertinent and lots of people are experiencing the same

[Q] Can't re-enable disabled app

Ok so I was disabling a bunch of pre-installed apps from my S4 but mistakenly disabled 'Google Search'. Dumb move I know.
The first image is my current phone's firmware.
The problem I'm having is that when I go itno Settings>Application Manager>Disabled and click on Enable it asks me if I want to "Delete all Data and Disable App"
Clicking on cancel just returns me to the App Info screen where the Enable button taunts me with it's uselesness.
Clicking on OK asks me if I want to "Replace This App with the Factory Version"
I've tried disabling and re-enabling other apps to see if it's a phone problem, but those other apps have re-enabled just fine.
I'm stumped as to what to do. I don't want to delete all the data as I have 'Google Now' calibrated just perfectly to my current lifestyle, and I really don't want to do a 'Facotry Reset', setting everything back up again is a massive ball-ache I would certainly like to avoid.
Any suggestions would be a great help :fingers-crossed:
EDIT:
Ok so afer getting impatient I just decided to go ahead and click on "Replace App with Factory Version"
After deleting all the data the "Enable" button re-enabled the app as expected.
When I opened the app I got a message saying that an 'Updated Version is Available on The Play Store' so I went ahead and updated it and then replaced the Google Now widget on on my phone.
To my surprise, all of my 'Cards' and recent searches were still there, I guess as Google collects as much data on us as possible I should of expected they would of retained it, and on this case I'm glad they did.
So in short - Problem Solved.

Screen overlay???

So I got a replacement phone today. I can't use most of my downloaded apps. It says I have to turn off screen overlay.
It keeps telling me to change my settings. Ugh. I've Googled advice and I keep reading things about disabling lux for example but I don't have that app..
I've also read if I go into my app manager and click on more it should allow me to "draw over" and this isn't an option on my phone..

It's a message from latest security policy from Google. It was introduced in latest update.
When you open an app and this app asks for any kind of permission like access contact, storage or location, you have to make sure that there is no app running on top of everything. This is for your security because this app can answer for you without your permission.
Example: if you have a Messenger chat head open on top of the screen, Google will not let you answer if other application asks for permission. In this case just close the chat head.

Play protect disable option not available

I'm trying to disable Play Protect in the menu of the play store and/or in Google services menu and the option to do so isn't there. I have a 918 on 10k. Also need help disabling my own personal Hate for Google button.
I came here from a Google search. The option has disappeared on my phone too. I only switched it off a few days ago.
Now it is back on with no option to turn it off. I can only guess Google have deliberately removed the option
My phone is Doogee BL5000 if that makes any difference. Android 7.0

Same. I Googled it, and my phone and Tab s2 tablet do not have the option Google says I should have. I do not even have the option in my phone setting-google services-security to disable "verify apps". I play around with Lucky Patcher sometimes and the play store calls it a virus but now I'm getting a 504 error updating Kaspersky. Everything else updated. I feel it's related.
Why turn it off?

I also use LP and there's an option to disable play protect within LP, then again we shouldn't talk about LP on xda.
I'm getting warnings about 2 apps, the one that can not be mentioned and SELinux Switch. I don't mind Google protecting us but they should at least allow us to disable it if we are confident.
There's no option to disable Play Protect any more. If you choose to "use anyway" you are still stuck with permanent explanation notifications and a permanent warning in Play Store
I can't find any information about this even from Google themselves
Hope somebody on this site can find a fix for this

I must have found the same info as you did. Are you having any issues updating any apps? There should be no reason my anti-virus won't update right now. I did just install xposed and activate the module for the "the app that cannot be named". I'll try to uninstall it when I get a chance.

No, not that I've noticed. Apps are updating as normal as far as I can tell. I do have Magisk and I'm having issues with getting SafetyNet status. Maybe that is affecting something

Check your play store settings. It showed up finally. I turned it off.
Thanks. Found the option and turned off
No option for me to turn off. Nothing in settings. Auto updated itself today.

Can't open games. Tablet wants Underground data tracking turned on.

I posted the message below on the Amazon device forum but most folks on there don't seem to know how to turn things on so I'm hoping I get sensible help here:
My fire HD 8 (2017) has suddenly stopped me opening games. Bad piggies and cut the rope, both installed from the Amazon store and worked last week.
I just tried to open them and get a message saying I need to turn on Amazon Underground data tracking. I tap the button to allow and it takes me to the settings menu ( as per screenshot).
There's no menu with this option, I also thought the underground app had been discontinued. I can't find the option in the app store or the Amazon games app.
Any one else has the same problem? Googling just refers to the old underground app.
My reply to the helpful "Have you tried restarting" from Amazon support.
I've tried restarting and holding the power button down but still the same. I also tried uninstalling one of the apps and reinstalling.
My fire is on version 5.6.2.0 (I'm in the UK but the show mode isn't activated yet).
This new version seems to have a lot of bugs. I was impressed with the tablet before but now I'm seeing slow down doing certain tasks. I have the permanent "Alexa Devices" notification. When the wifi disconnects I get 3 notifications about alarms and reminders until wifi reconnects. Now I can't use some Amazon app store apps.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Could it be, that the apps just weren't updated since the Underground closure?
Maybe that one is on the devs, not on you or Amazon.
Hi Creeju,
I've figured it out, there's an option in the menus to turn on data tracking, nothing to do with the underground apps. Its in the security and privacy menu -> app data tracking.
I'll post a screenshot later when I'm back on the tablet. Amazon support eventually replied to an email and said it was in the "Apps and Games" menu, it's not.
Edit: Screenshot added, it's the "Collect App Usage Data" option
Thank you for this info! My son brought his tablet to me this morning with the same problem and I couldn't for the life of me figure out where this setting was.
Same Issue, I am having the same issue. I'd already found the setting in security tab

I am having the same issue. I'd already found the setting in security tab, but it is already turned on, so I'm still getting the same message and can't play the games that I purchased my fire to play. I should have just bought an android tab!!!
