I've been fighting with my 6P all day long trying to get Viper4Android to work after going through the process of finally rooting and installing RR ROM.
I've gone through every single tutorial I can find, I can get the app installed, but I dont think its actually running because I cant get permission to modify the audio_effects.con file in any way no matter what I search for.
Any advice would be great or even if theres a ROM for the 6P that already has it baked into the ROM I would gladly take a shot at it.
Im basically trying to increase the volume of my bluetooth audio and from everything I read, this is the only way unless someone here has any options.
Thanks!
Flashing arise 2.94 aroma installer worked for me on every rom. I'm not using rr rom, but you should give it a try. At the aroma installer tick remove deep buffering, if the processing fails on viper with rr rom . No need to modify the audio config. But if you want to do it use twrp filemanager. Boot to twrp, mount system and use the twrpfilemanager to rename or delete the audio config.
To download arise 2.94 aroma visit the arise thread here on xda.
Edit: to check if viper is working, check the driver status on viper while you playing some music, processing has to show "yes"
ya, the driver for viper is enabled, but not processing.
Im going to work on installing that mod this morning and Ill let you know how I make out!
Thanks!
Just wanted to let you know that suggesting using Arise was awesome!
It took a bit to figure out how to actually install it since RR doesnt use Aroma, but I got the files modified and it installed perfectly!
VIper4Arise is enabled and Processing!
Ive been using XDA since I've owned an HTC Hero and you guys are STILL the best!
Thanks!
I gave up on V4A a while ago, and went with AudioFX

Hey all.
So, I'm running Audacity B2 on my G2, and I've attempted to load up this modified services.jar file here, using both methods. I'm technical myself, so I tried the manual way first. Followed the steps exactly, and when I rebooted, I never (well, at least not for about 10 minutes that I waited!) got past the flying blocks of color boot screen for Audacity. Seemed to be stuck.
So I tried the CWM zip install method as well, same result. /Sigh. I really didn't expect this to be where I got stuck! Anybody have any thoughts as to what possibly is going on?
The only way I can get back to a working phone is to re-flash Audacity B2, then it will boot. Really wanting to try out V6 Supercharger, but can't get past this first step, which should be the easy one.
Thanks for any insight.
I had this issue today too. I reflashed B2 and gapps, booted, set up google account and apps, flashed new services.jar and after that everything works.
Interesting! So by "flashed new services.jar", I take that to mean you used the zip install via recovery, not manually moving the file?
I'll give that a shot and see what happens....
Thanks!
If you manually move the file make sure you set the proper permissions and ownerships. Also make sure you check the MD5sum of each download with what the site reports.
Either of those may cause issues that will likely boot loop you.

This is my first TouchWiz device, a GS4 on Sprint. I've tried to install several custom ROMs and I keep getting errors that seem like GApps won't launch or isn't launching correctly. I've tried the FreeGS4 ROM and the ForceROM with the same effect. I am not allowed yet to post in either ROM's thread and neither seem to mention a specific GApps download. I have been using the Gapps that GooManager downloaded automatically as I have not found another.
Any tips would be appreciated. More information available upon request as I'm not sure exactly what is necessary.

Make sure and back up your current rom through recovery first then do a wipe of system and data partitions. Install new rom wipe cache and dalvik cache, fix permissions then reboot

Okay, I'm really new to TWRP. It's completely different from CWM or the process is. I'm having a lot of trouble. Please give me as straight forward of steps as possible.
All I need is to install a ROM and GApps. Mostly, I want to know if GApps is included in the ROMs I specified: FreeGS4 or ForceRom2.1.
If anyone would rather suggest a ROM that they prefer and the GApps to go with it, I would try that too.
If I can't get this to work soon I will try the UnRoot method to see if I can get this phone working.

You don't flash Gapps with any touchwiz rom. So any rom you find in the Android Development forum be sure to NOT flash Gapps.
And other than a few minor differences TWRP and CWM accomplish the same basic thing, instructions from what to do in recovery will be same in either recovery unless specified.

Alright. That could have been my issue. Somehow my bootloader was corrupted too, so could only get into Download mode. Trying to format back to MDC right now, then will see if I can root and install TWRP again.
This is a lesson for everyone: Don't drink and mod.
One last question: Using ODIN to flash back to MDC, can anyone estimate the time it might take to reboot? I believe I waited around 20 minutes last night and the boot never finished. Not sure what to do at this point.
yea thats deff your problem bro.. u cant flash gapps on a touch wiz rom.. gapps is only for an aosp rom

Is there a way to get DSPManager.apk from CM11 to run on stock? I find it's the one app I really miss - it just makes everything sound richer and fuller/more immersive to me.
There's a DSP Manager in the play store but it's not the same thing and doesn't provide the same functionality.
I tried just copying over and installing the APK from the CM11 package (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595464) - it'll install and run but none of the settings have any effect so I uninstalled it.
-edit-
Turns out this is the proper package to install : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393138
I flashed it in stock (3e) recovery and it gave a message saying "signature verification failed" (or similar) but continued on to say installation successful, followed by rebooting, but afterwards, there is no DSPmanager app that I can find.
Do I need CWM or something else? Will it trip the KNOX flag?

Potentially it could be that it was/is wrote for CM's base and framework therefore won't run on TW. However it may just need the correct permissions set and over wrote via a root explorer/editor.
CWM will trip KNOX yes if you install it.
Wouldn't it be easier to just install Viper? Same basic UI, except Viper needs to download a driver or two.
I remember playing with both DSP Manager and Viper back on CM10 and at that time, I definitely preferred the sound coming out of DSP Manager. The viper features either were very subjectively indistinguishable to me (like bumping up sampling rates for flac files etc) or sounded like the gimmicky EQ changes that are available in the stock software.
In any case I may have to install CWM some time just to try to get it to install properly - is that definitely what's causing the package signature error when I try to install it from 3e recovery?
I upgraded a few days ago. This device is amazing in every way.... HTC 10's stock boomsound + Dolby sounds amazing. Was definitely in need of an audio equalizer though. I love viper and have used for yrs. I have tried every way possible to get vipers drivers installed with no luck. Here are the final steps I found and am now able to use viper successfully.
Streaming bt to my car stereo is why :this is was so important to me,because without viper it really doesn't sound good.
Unlocked Verizon running Lee-Droid nightlies. S-off as well. I'm going to link what I used to make this possible.
Requires root & unlocked bootloader.
Custom recovery.
Clean flash rom of choice .
Use a root browser and find system/vendor/etc.Rename.... audio effects Conf. To Audio effects conf.bak and save.
Go into supersu settings and unroot completely . After device reboots
I also went into my Android pay app while no root was mounted and added my card to use on AP.
Reboot to recovery.
Flash Magisk V6 ,reboot recovery, I think it's important to do this between flashes.
Flash top-johns xposed systemless framework v86.5
Reboot recovery flash magisk module template. This enables you to have root but to be able to mount and dismount root with a switch.
Reboot recovery flash supersu 2.76 magisk zip... systemless root
Reboot recovery flash viper for Android magisk zip.
Reboot device ..grant proper supersu permissions I also updated supersu binaries through play store at that time.
Download and install viper 4 android Fx v2401 apk . If you only flash the magisk version of viper through recovery and don't install the listed apk behind. Viper will still not be installed.
Open Viper4A, allow supersu privileges : install audio drivers and reboot & profit.
I've tried v28 acoustx audio and it really sounded bad as well.
Boomsound+stock dolby+ Viper = sounds better than my m8 with Dragon Fi with the Harmon Kardon MOD.
Android pay has worked all day for me also.
I spent endless hours: trying to find the combinations of things I could do to get vipers audio drivers to stay mounted and nothing.
Maybe this post will help.
I've also included uninstaller for both framework & magisk. Easiest way to uninstall is dirty flash current rom back over itself.
I have many other modules up and working also on this framework amplify, gravitybox, powernap, youtube adaway, clean lockscreen and all with the ability to mask root
Must be s-off

thanks for this workaround, but an easier way would be to just remove the htc_audio_effects.conf in system/etc, then just reboot and install the apk then the driver and reboot again
Why are people having issues? I have viper4android MK MOD installed without any dramas at all. All i did was dirty flash ROM selecting selinux permissive in Aroma. after a reboot i installed the mk mod zip and everything is fine, drivers installed and everything works.

because just using the app, doesn't modify the right file. those zips/mods are compatible with htc roms, so they modify the right file, so you don't have to do anything
but not every mod/zip is compatible with that.
Well I have a v4a working with all driver and all installed along side with Dolby eq as well both working s-on all in one zip I hear huge diff in all output speaker/aux/bluetooth as said Dolby and v4a both eq working side by side didn't do anything cept flash 1 zip
I drove on a small trip today and the 10 truly sounds amazing now. And the above is the only way I could properly install and get to stick.

S-off isn't needed for it. It's like installing any MOD to a rom, unlocked bootloader with custom recovery is enough

V4A easiest way: s-off/unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, get root (normal supersu is fine, no need for systemless root), install V4A like normal (and install drivers using the prompt when you first go into V4A), go to system/etc/audio_effects.conf and copy paste the v4a lines into htc_audio_effects.conf. Reboot and it should all be working. I'm not sure why OP needed to go through this convoluted process.
AcoustiX isn't currently tuned for HTC 10 (which is why it doesn't sound as good), I'm going to have to redo a few things for it to sound better since I've now just gotten my device today.
i have a thread with much easier instucrions that doesnt require s off or anything, just root

These instructions allow you to use android pay. I believe that's the main reason the OP chose this method.

As long as you set up Android pay and add card when phone is unrooted, before flashing framework and stateless root. Yes

Thanks for posting this! I'm anxious to dig into it after work and see if it solves my problem of having a constant hiss/white noise whenever the Viper4Audio Magisk module is enabled (I used the Magisk/SuHide/Xposed systemless combo to keep SafetyNet from tripping). I hate having to choose between SafetyNet and a usable V4A.

Great tutorial for people looking into magisk in general, straightforward and works. Certainly got me going, Verizon running Viper 3.1.0, I made sure to format data and start fresh fyi
@mattie_49 Before doing this method, did you get a lot of static/white noise when running V4A on LeeDroid? I can't seem to get rid of the constant static when V4A is enabled. It worked fine on Stock, so I'm not sure what the problem is at this point.

Okay I have the T-Mobile version of the OnePlus 6t and the bootloader is unlocked and it's rooted running the stock ROM. I installed substratum but nothing works I put busy box in also just in case. Will substratum work with the stock ROM?
yep, works just fine, with no busy box needed
I noticed subs stopped working for me after I clean flashed stock OOS.
Haven't changed anything but only a handful of overlays show up after a reboot
you know you have to be rooted for Subs to work on this phone..

Oh and it's rooted with magisk 18.1
mine is too..
not every subs theme will work on this phone; try Valarie, I really like that one, and I know it works on this phone
remember, you first "build and enable" the things you want to theme, making sure you are using mods that work on 9.0.
then, after you build the theme, you reboot; once it boots, go back into subs app, and "enable" everything you just built; the changes should happen right then, and the theme should be installed and working.
More info in the Subs thread here on XDA, but that works for me every time..
Yap, follow the steps what @wase4711 says. Before that, make sure that you haven't installed any Magisk Doze Modules, this may affect is enabling the theme. If you have already Installed any Magisk modules, try by Uninstalling them and then apply the Theme, Once you have applied the theme, you can Install the Module's back. You can also use Pitch Black Theme, and It also works perfectly with OP6T.
