I am intending to buy my S8 in Latin America - but only if the processor is Exynos so it can be rooted. The S7 last year was Exynos but I see that, although Canada had Exynos on the S7, the S8 is now Snapdragon. How can I be sure what processor is in the S8 if I look at one in a shop? On my S7 the only way I have found to check is by using a 3rd party app, such as Phone Info or CPU-z. Obviously, I won't be able to install a 3rd party app in the shop. I won't trust what the salesman says. How can I be sure? Otherwise I will have to import one from the UK which will probably end up costing me more.
Now that many of you have the S8, is there anything on the box or in Settings or elsewhere that says what processor you have?
Not Sure (idiocracy) )))). I have a european model and it has a label witch states that is to be sold only in europem.... The only sure way is to install an app (like aida64, cpuz, antutu etc) and check the specs. You can try that with one of the display units from where you want to buy the phone.
CPU-Z identifies the Samsung S8 plus sold in Europe (Netherlands) as using the Samsung Exynos 8895 processor
Yes, go with CPU-Z.
Isn't it just obvious by looking at the model number?
SM-G950/955U = Snapdragon 835
SM-G950/955F = Exynos 8895
and -FD is exynos with dual sim support
There are some other models but not as oftenly seen, like -V and -W which both are SD835.
I have an unlocked S8, bought in US, but I have a dual SIM tray, model number, according to "About Phone is G950U1. Does my phone have dual SIM support?
Geekbench says that my S8 G950F has a Snapdragon 835, CPU-Z shows the Exynos 8895

SD835.
If I root with Magisk do I have to check the OEM unlock box? And will my battery charge to 100 % because I heard something about max 80 % after rooting device?

it is my understanding that the US has the snapdragon Note 3. However, my model number is SM-N900A. I got it from Walmart here in Hawaii. I hear this is the Exynos variant. I want the snapdragon, should I take it back and hope to get the correct one?
The 900A is US at&t, it's snapdragon. There is no Exnyos one sold here in the US at normal retail outlets.

I did google it. I came up with this "First off, let’s talk about the two different models that the Note III is going to be shipping in, the SM-900 and the SM-9005. The SM-900 is going to feature 3GB RAM and the Samsung Exynos 5420, which is of course, Octa-Core. Meanwhile, the SM-9005 is packing the same 3GB of RAM but a Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 instead of the Exynos. "
But thanks for the CPU Z, it does infact say snapdragon.
Exynos 3g network and Snapdragon for 4g LTE network, Exynos mostly available in SE Asia where 4g not yet popular.

Anyone know what the different models of the S7 Edge are going to be? If precise information (bands, capacity, dual sim, etc..) can be shown this could be useful.
Thanks

The main difference is in the CPU/GPU and different radio chips i presume. The America`s will have the SD 820 cpu and Europe and maybe the rest of the world the Exynos 8890.

Agreed. But i would like to have more info. Like the note 5 has so many variants. N920I / C / CD / 9200 / G / K / T etc...
The US, EU and Asians don't have the same bands it could be tricky for the buyer who is in a hurry to buy the wrong one.
I can't seem to find the different models online.

Check eBay if you are in a hurry, there is I think 1 more for grabs of the g935fd. Apparently the second SIM slot can also be used for sdcard in case you don't need the second SIM.... But that is still to be checked.

It can definitely be used as SD if you wish. Go to samsung.com and switch to Indonesia. Find out more on s7 and edge, click on hardware and scroll down, and you will see dual sim.
I have tried the same with a few European countries and yet to find one with dual sim.

It's indeed funny that the Swiss site only shows the SD and doesn't mention the dual sim (i'm from CH like you).
I just called Swisscom, and they had no idea if it was possible...So i contacted Samsung Switzerland and they told me that the phones sold in Switzerland will only have the possibility of having 1 sim and 1 SD (G935F EUR model), and that the second slot will not be able to take an extra SIM (they could be wrong). So the G935FD is going to be a rare beast...
the G935F is going to host the Exynos (which we all knew i guess)
I've been reading a lot about dual Sim phones recently. Correct me if I'm wrong but to my understanding it is not enough that is is hardware-ready, it needs 2 IMEIs as well.
Let's take the recent Galaxy A series for example, they all have a hybrid tray SIM1 + SIM2/SDCard but they are being restricted here in Germany (and probably elsewhere). Being sold as single SIM capable
If we take the previous Galaxys like the S5 Duos (G900FD) and the Note 5 (N920CD) for reference, the SM-G935FD will most probably be sold in the UAE and will support Europeans LTE Bands 3, 7 and 20.
Are all these international phones locked to local carriers? You can't buy a UK 935f and pop a US AT&T sim in it, right?

The European ones are generally unlocked. They will have different radios to US ones so your reception and battery life may not be as good as a US version.

The snapdragon model will likely have better rom support. Also, the gpu in the snapdragon may be a little better.

Thanks guys but I will stick with the Exynos since Sammy Released the kernel source files.
I've had this device for a bit now and had some time to evaluate it. I used the Snapdragon model in stores to try it out and the Exynos feels faster than that, which is saying a lot because the Snapdragon model is pretty fast. Benchmarks put the Exynos ahead by 25-30% (6500 on Geekbench vs 5000, real-world speed test has the Snap device finishing in 2:41, Exynos at 2:03, etc.) Plus this version of touchwiz was optimized for the Exynos model.
I notice these forums aren't as populated as the carrier models. Why do you think the International version isn't more popular?

Thanks for letting me know. I am surprised that all carriers in Canada has the Exynos version as some of our carriers run on CDMA instead of GSM. Since the Exynos version seems to have the unlocked boot loader, and since Samsung has released the source, this might be the first time where Exynos will be better for developing. Let's at least hope

The Edge 935F exynos forum is active. I guess the larger , more expensive model has more folllowers on XDA. I wished the forums were merged like in reddit. With very few exceptions, a discussion about the S7 Edge applies to the regular S7.

Not everyone can drop $600 on a phone. Most of the Exynos ones purchased online do not come with a factory warranty. The SD model normally benchmarks higher in single core power and graphics. The Exynos higher in multi core processing. Each person has a preference. Since the Exynos model isn't a US model your average phone person doesn't even know what it is.

The Exynos supports more LTE bands, but the Snapdragon supports CDMA. Hence why it's used in markets that require CDMA .

Hello guys i just ordered the 7 edge from amazon, i'm in europe so i guess i'll be getting the exynos version, i was wondering, are the roms the same for both SD and Exynos? or are there roms that only work in sd or exynos? I tried to search but seems that both are 935F instead of my S5 (900f for Snapdragon and 900h for exynos).
One more question, will my warranty be voided if i unlock bootloader? I read a lot of stuff that amazon won't care and that they don't even check it.
And finally, i'm pretty excited, i come from a OnePlus 3, while i liked it for it's fluidity and speed, i had some troubles with it's screen and i need a solid phone since i'm going to a cold country (s7 is nice for the water proof and humidity), i got it for 570€ new, so i guess it was a good deal (32gb version ofc)
Thanks
Hi,
Yes there are different ROMs for different processors, some ROMs may support both Exynos and Snapdragon, however don't take that for granted. I'm not following S7/E development, but back in S4 days the Snapdragon version had more ROMs than the Exynos version.
The 935F model number is the international Exynos S7 Edge, AFAIK the unlocked S7 Edge with Snapdragon variant has 935U as model number.
All the best,
~Lord
