I have an unrooted, Nougat-running S7 Edge, and I'm having a unique problem. (My apologies if this is discussed elsewhere, nothing came up in my search.)
After hard-resetting my phone, I asked Google Now to call someone, and selected Hangouts Dialer. Unfortunately I found out that this practically breaks calling in Android Auto, so I tried to clear the default. I went to both Hangouts and Hangouts dialer, but neither of them have any defaults to clear. I even cleared Google, to no avail. I went as far as uninstalling Hangouts Dialer (which made it revert to the default dialer), but when I reinstalled it, it went back to using Dialer!
Short of hard-resetting my phone again (which I really don't want to do) how do I clear the Dialer as default? What am I missing?

Ok so when i first got my N1 i remember seeing GV on the market, it didn't come stock. I downloaded it and while doing the setup you can decide to use it as your voicemail or not, i decided not to use it. No problems, still got my voicemail normally.
So i flashed cyanogen 5.0.4.1 the other day and now i notice that whenever i get voicemail it comes through google voice, i don't like this because now i can't use the t-mobile visual voicemail app i have. When i check for voicemail on that app now i get nothing, they're only on GV.
I've gone to Settings > Call Settings > Voicemail Service and checked the bubble for "My Carrier" thinking that would work, well, it didn't. I checked if i could disable it in the GV settings too and there's no option for it.
I've even gone to the marketplace to try and uninstall it but the uninstall option is greyed out, im guessing because GV comes stock now and is not a removable app.
Can anyone shed some light on how i can either get my normal voicemail working again or get rid of GV altogether?
Much appreciated
tl;dr version: i dont want google voice being my default voicemail, tried to disable it, didnt work, cant uninstall it. I want to get the old normal notifications for voicemail. Help please
Sorry for the double post, figured it out.
In case anyone else is having this problem, go to:
Settings > Call Settings > Call Forwarding
and click disable for:
"Forward when busy"
"Forward when unanswered"
"Forward when unreachable".
For some reason they will all have your google voice number enabled and when you click disable on them individually they revert to your carrier's voicemail number.
I have had my EVO for close to 6 months now without ever having an issue. I have been running MIUI for a little over a month and never had any issues. I recently just updated to the newest build, and when i restored all my apps (one of which was google voice) i realized i stopped receiving my text messages. After researching the issue i found a ton of similar people saying that google voice was the cause of it. So i set my google voice up and tested it.. and i WAS able to get my texts but only if i use the Google Voice. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall it like 50x, and i've gone onto google.com/voice and disabled it and re-enabled it 50x. I have checked the box that says 'Allow text messages to go to this phone' or something like that, I've checked every possible setting on Google Voice.. Nothing. So i figured okay, I'll do a full factory reset back to Sense. I DID THIS, AND STILL NOTHING, so then i did a full factory reset, and didn't sign into my Google Account, still no texts. Basically it's like Google Voice has taken my phone number over and is not allowing my text messages to go through and no matter what i do to disable or uninstall it, nothing works.. I have to use google voice to get my texts.. So then i contact Sprint and i've spoken to 3 different reps who have tried everything from their end even attempting to remove google voice from their end to get my texts to go through. I've done everything but change my number. Right now i'm on sense and Another thing i realized is.. I cannot do the ## commands in the phone dialer.. Like two commands i know are ##DATA# and another is ##MSL-CODE# but when i type them in .. the phone dialer just hangs and freezes and no menu comes up. I've done almost 5 factory resets, I've tried not logging into my google account on my phone, I've uninstalled google voice from my phone and from my PC.. Sprint is telling me that they'll waive my 100 fee for the insurance phone, but since i run MIUI, the new insurance phone wont be able to be rooted and i'll be stuck with SENSE and i do not want that. DOES ANYONE, ANYONE AT ALL Have any clue what-so-ever that might be the cause or any hack or possible thing i could do to fix this, and why do you think that the ## codes are not working on my stock sense rom either? Everything else on my phone works entirely fine except receving texts through my native app and using those codes on my sense rom in the dialer. I can't receieve texts on MIUI or Sense through their native apps... the only way to get them is through Google Voice.. Please anyone! HELP ME!
Google voice did that to me, too and I had to work my ass off to get it to go away!
Finally, I went to the website and my settings and got it to stop doing text messages, and then I called the number you call to get it to stop handling my calls.
Here ya go

That's because the phone number is associated with Google voice, not your account, so a factory reset wouldn't help pas the number is still there
Nevermind, just ignore this post.
Having a problem with Google Voice Actions that I've already worked on for a long time. Need some "Special Heads" to help me!
Have Nexus 4 with Stock 4.3. I run an app called Sliding Messenger that I use as my SMS App (check it out if you haven't tried it; it's GREAT!).
The first time I sent a text from my Contact List, I was asked (as I should be) if I want to complete the Task using Stock Messaging, Google Voice, Skype, or Sliding Messaging (the 4 messaging apps I have on my phone). I selected Sliding Messaging, and all has been well since. Now, if I send an SMS directly from my Contact List, it will automatically go to Sliding Messenger as the default without asking (as it should). In addition, if I use a third party App to check the App Defaults, Sliding Messenger IS listed as the default SMS Program. All seems well!
BUT! If I try to send an SMS using Google Voice Actions, it AGAIN asks me my choice of Apps to complete the task with. BUT it only gives me TWO choices, either the Stock Messaging App or Google Voice. No choice for either Skype or Sliding Messaging (which is ALREADY my default).
1. Why is Google Voice Actions not recognizing my default SMS App?
2. Why is Google Voice Actions not giving me a choice of all my installed Messaging Apps (as I got when I first clicked from my Contact List?
I've done all the "usual things (uninstalled/reinstalled all my Messaging Apps, and Reset App Preferences from settings. It still doesn't give me the choice. I've spoken with the developer of Sliding Messaging (great guy!), and it DOES work on his N4 running 4.3.
As a last resort, I went back to factory settings, reinstalled my Apps, and still no joy.
Any ideas from the ones out there with bigger/more "Special" Heads than me is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Upon activating Verizon's Advanced Calling (VoLTE), my ability to use an alternate dialer app on my Galaxy S5 seems to have been disabled. I'm guessing they do this because Advanced Calling requires the stock dialer. When I realized this, I removed Advanced Calling, but I still can't use an alternate dialer. I can punch in the digits in another dialer app, but the stock dialer pops up to complete the call.
I've tried clearing defaults and installing a bunch of different dialers, but no luck. I even tried Skype -- strangely, I can choose that as the default dialer, but none of the actual dialer apps I installed show up in the "choose an app" dialog -- only Skype and the stock dialer.
I'm assuming this is some kind of software change that came with Advanced Calling, but I can't seem to reverse it. Am I stuck with wiping the phone or something?
Did you also turn off advanced calling in your VZW account?

Yes, I removed it from my account, rebooted the phone (several times), and verified that it's deactivated both online and in the phone.
Maybe try clearing the cache from recovery?
Voice match toggle grayed out, won't allow retrain or delete voice model, and as soon as I open the Voice Match settings, I lose the ability to use voice match and the ability to launch assistant by long-pressing the home button.
If I reinstall my ROM, during set-up it goes to set up Voice Match, but then just says "Google can already recognize your voice. You have a model from another device we will use.", and won't let me change it.
I've tried deleting data from google app, reinstalling opengapps nano, reinstalling ROM. With ROM reinstall it will work until I open the Voice Match settings.
Hey.
Same here with a 5t. Have you found anything new since your post?

Opened google account on pc, found devices I didn't ever have (type devices in account help), changed my password per the "see devices not yours?" suggestion, removed all the devices, deleted ALL voice data backups from day 1, reinstalled my ROM (OOS which has some gapps included), complete factory and user data wipe (after backing up my music and photos) set up phone from scratch and then I could get in and change or delete voice match.
Have not tried in any other ROMs.
Good luck.
