Android 7.0 for SM-T817W is out - Galaxy Tab S2 General

The latest Android 7 Nougat firmware for SM-T817w, a Canadian version of the Tab S2, is out.
I did an OTA yesterday morning and it is now on firmware T817WVLU3CQDA. There was an update right after and now it is on NRD90M.T817WVLU3CQDA.DM.
I odined the TWRP (twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t810_13317.tar) and twrp flashed the SuperSU (SuperSU-2.79-201612051815.aip) right after. It has TRWP recovery and root without even a glitch.
It probably takes a few week before Sammobile posts this official firmware.

Is this compatible with the T817T T-Mobile version?

I don't think so. You have to wait till that for t817t is released.

Hey man can you post a nandroid backup so us other users can try to go this route until the OTA is posted?
thanks

Sure, here it is, a link to the nandroid backup for those who need it. Restore it with TWRP.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5aAz5mBnQAaczRVcXdtS3JPX3M?usp=sharing

Thank you man!!!

Thanks, running good n sexy

How does one install this?
I have TWRP, Rooted - installed rom manager, nandroid manager, busy box, all the dependencies - booted into recovery and when I click on restore, regardless of where it is (internal sd, external sd, external usb) no files are shown.. i've unzipped it to a folder etc..
Do I have to wipe out twrp and install clockwork mod instead?

Do this if you have room and time. This way you will know what to put where and how:
Do a backup in TWRP then look at the folder it created and you will have an epiphany

Lol thanks.. yes.. makes a bit of sense which is better than no sense.. who knew it had to be in TWRP/[long string of random numbers]/Backups
Its working now, except for a few things - I cannot transfer any files to the tablet via USB, there doesn't seem to be a developers option anywhere, I've lost the unified storage (damnit samsung..) and seems to have lost root.
Other than that, we're all good.

I flashed Magisk to root and you get dev option the same way... Just tap build 5 times. It is in a sub menu this time... Thank Samsung

Really! I also have a T-817w (here in Canada)... and I still haven't got the update. I'm full stock / never rooted, eh.
Any idea why I'm not seeing it, even when manually checking for the update? (Sammobile still doesn't have the update either.)

On Rogers still no Nougat as of today

[Q] Updating via OTA works with TWRP?

I was wondering if it will be safe if you update via OTA with a custom Open script Recovery such has TWRP would be safe, I do not want to get any issues while updating to Android 4.3 when it is available like soft bricking.

Have you tested it?, I am not sure if it could be possible since TWRP is OpenScriptRecovery so the system should be able to just get the OTA update to flash like nothing is wrong or anything.
I can restore the stock recovery using the Nexus Toolkit.

It is well known that it will not work on none official recoveries. It will also not work if you are rooted. There are threads around about this.

Even though that is for a different device and a completely different OTA set up. Being fully stock is always the best bet. Like I said I never do OTA and on a nexus it is almost completely pointless as the 4.3 update will be available in a flashable zip file with in a matter of hours in not less.

I had CWM on my rooted Nexus 4, and the OTA for android 4.3 came along, and worked fine! Android asked to reboot to install the update, so I agreed, and the reboot loaded CWM which flashed the update. I lost root however, but it was easy to put back.
Has anyone done the OTA to 4.3 while having TWRP recovery? I wonder which of the two recoveries is better at handling OTA updates ... some folks say never attempt OTA with a custom recovery, but CWM has always handled it fine on my Nexus 4 (I've done different over-the-air updates around 3 times now).

I am also interested about doing an update to 4.3 with everything stock except for TWRP, and am waiting to hear other people experiences before I try it. I see that the following shows one recommended method (Scenario #2), although I am not sure exactly how to do it. I am curious as to why this is any different than doing it OTA:

From what I am reading now, it's going to work. You will loose root and might loose TWRP, but if you have unlocked bootloader you can flash them both again. I'd say go ahead and let us know if you lost both root and TWRP or just root.

Actually, what I am reading now from a lot of people is that it is not necessary to download the file, and just do the OTA, as there is no difference. If I were to lose TWRP it is an easy enough process to get it back. As far as rooting, I am waiting for Koush to upgrade his superuser app, as I switched from SuperSU a while back (Both developers are having a tough time with 4.3). I am also waiting for things to settle down with all the 4.3 bugs and app upgrades. Maybe in a few weeks; there is just way too many issues.

No need to wait, you can switch back to SuperSU, the latest version (1.51) has been working perfectly with 4.3 for me.
BTW I just installed BootUnlocker for nexus devices, a great app that can lock/unlock your boot loader from within android without wiping your data!

If u have cwm, thats what i did:
#1 dont do anything, just try to install the update (with cwm)
#2 this will fail, but it reverts to default recovery
#3 install again
#4 finish, now reinstall cwm
Damn, Mine doesn't go into default recovery after Cwm fails to install the update.
There is a an error message which says that firmware is for 'tegranote', which is not compatible with the device which is 'tegratab', has anyone ever seen this error?

How to root (SGP561) Z2 Tablet Verizon, new update 23.0.1.E.0.208 (4.4.4)

Hi guys, finally I've found a way to get the latest update 23.0.1.E.0.208 (4.4.4) without losing root on this tablet.
The method is the same as the method here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155), but we will use the files for Xperia Z2 Tablet Verizon instead of files for Xperia Z2.
First, you MUST BE on an older version (17.1.D.0.437) with root and XZDualRecovery
You need these files:
1. New 23.0.1.E.0.208 update FTF file (you can use XperiFirm to get it)
2. PRFCreator v0.5.zip (I tried the later version v0.8 but it didn't work, so better to use v0.5)
3. Latest stable SuperSU update package
4. XZDualRecovery flashable patched version (in the attachment) (note that the original version from [NUT] will not allow you to mount system rw)
Then follows step 4 to 11 in the instructions in the above thread for Xperia Z2 and replace all the files for Xperia Z2 with the files you've just got.
Good luck!
thanks for this, will try it this week...

My internet connection sucks. It takes long to upload large files.
Trying to do this, however it seems we need a custom recovery already installed. Trying to install the XZDualRecovery from the installer file I downloaded but it just hangs at libdvm opened. Any other way to install a custom recovery so I can follow the rest of the guide to get my replacement tab rooted?

Sounds to me like you need to flash the old ftf first, then root and then install the custom recovery. Root only works on the older firmware linked above.

Thanks, I thought you had to have a recovery already installed for that. Downloaded everything I need plus old FTF file, can't seem to get it to work right. Think I am having driver problems even tho it works fine in fastboot mode through ADB. Can't get Sony PC companion to work either even tho I've downloaded pretty much every driver I can find for it. I'm on Windows 8.1
I never managed to get it to work on windows 8.1 by had a windows 7 laptop laying around and that worked fine. I would recommend finding a non 8.1 computer. Good luck.

Got it working. I didn't know I had to have the unknown sources checked. Also I didn't realize I was plugged into a 3.0 port in the back of my PC, so that didn't help.
Now that I'm on the old version and rooted, I saw some people had success with updating to the newest update for VZW and keeping root. Can anyone else confirm this? I have TWRP and everything on my HTC, but my tablet I would rather not mess with it as much. The steps in this guide are pretty involved.

Where did you find MIUI, and how did you flash it? Been looking for a ROM for a while.

i'm in touch with Russians, there they have Two user how already developed the MiUi ROM to our phone, i'm taking a conversation about this precautions like Updating OTA with root to know how to manage this problem... they use KAZAM SW on their Fly Tornado Slim (Yes, They Use Cross Manufacture SW too, More and More i have sure about our phones are unique Generic Thing with a Simple process called "put a label with the brand" on Gionee's Phones *** Just to be CLEAR! That's what i Thinking, My Opinion... For Sure the Hardware have some little modifications to can be accepted on some markets but all brands use a generic platform from Gionee [if you want to check that.. Check the name of the System application called "System Manager"... Check events names of APK using ES Task Manager(With ROOT on section Startup Manager Clicking on name of this process on list) the name of event process is -> com.gionee.softmanager.xxx.xxx.xxx ] )

i rooted my device using bmx method and then used rashr flash tool in the play store to flash the russians twrp recover
after that i got a little scared because
when i went to wipe it got stuck on formatting cache
then i just rebooted which led to cache and data not mounting
then i tried my backup and on the second try my restore took
so then i gave trying to flash miui another try and everything worked without a hitch this time lol
and im quite pleased with how miui is running, only bug ive seen is lock screen time and status bar time are different.

My last question. Which TWRP do I install? Is there a specific one? What do you recommend? I know you haven't tried yet, I just don't want to screw up. Haha.

... try re-flash the recovery from official TWRP Sources (Use the 2.8.5.0 ... version 2.8.6.0 is unstable) -> LINK
I used 2.8.5.0...downloaded it from the links dvdwx provided in another thread
Are you sure you have root? The unclemobile tool was doing the same thing to me...

I did root, but I couldn't get TWRP 2.8.5.0 to flash. That's what I need. That or CWM.
