[Q] Camera Manual Mode - Exposure Settings - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I am weighing up the G6 or the S8+. I'm currently using the Huawei P9 which has excellent manual exposure times, allowing for some beutiful night shots. I was dissappointed to learn the S8 manual exposure only goes up to 10 seconds. Can anyone please tell me what the G6 can go to?
Thanks.

Manual shutter speed on n6p

I want to set shutter speed at 30 sec like on my old g4 but i can't find an app that allows me do that. I tried manual camera and pro shot but the minimum shutter speed is only 1/5 sec

Proshot has "light paint" mode which allows longer shutter speeds...
Nexus 6P seems to be limited to 1/5 (0.2s).

Thanks but it's not what I want (with g4 i can photograph a night sky full of stars for example.)...dp you know if these .2 sec are an hardware limitation or if it is software? If it's the second may someone CAM change this!

It's currently impossible on the 6p. The hardware has been locked down. Devs can't change that. Like I just finished telling someone else, take it to Google...maybe they'll listen if enough people complain.

Auto cam vs note 7 cam?

Hey all. I have a Note 7. I am considering this phone as a replacement. How is the camera on auto? I've heard it's not good. How does it compare to Note 7 auto?
I switched from Note 7 to V20.
It works fine. But HDR is nowhere near as good as Samsung.
The N7 wins hands down in the camera department. If the camera is important to you, the S7 and S7 Edge has similar sensors.

Camera is important but screen size is more important. S7 edge is too small. I've heard the camera on manual is much better than auto. Is this true? If so how can I learn how to use camera in manual mode?
S7 Edge is what? 5.5 inch? Not a whole lot smaller than Note 7.
Full manual may produce desirable results, and the V20 also allows you to save in RAW format. However, to understand manual mode is to learn how to take pictures with a DSLR. Something I will not go into detail here. You have to find your own resource.
Try searching "Elements of Photography" app in the Google Play store. Pay for the full content inside, and learn about photography with a real camera.
It's important to understand the "Exposure Triangle" before proceeding to take pictures in Manual Mode.

It's actually really easy to learn manual photography with the V20 as it gives you a lot of instant feedback, even before you take a photo. Just flip it over to manual and start playing. If you set it too dark, you'll see it on the screen before you click the shutter. Too light? Same deal. Aperture is locked down. The only two exposure parameters you have to play with are shutter speed and ISO. Essentially, if one goes up, the other goes down. Other than that, you have focus if you want. That has a guide built in called focus peaking which highlights what is in focus as you adjust the slider. WB is the other part and you can leave that on auto as most cameras do a decent job. Sometimes it is good to override it though since it is going to make whites white even if they weren't necessarily white in the environment shot. Give it a go. The V20 makes it very easy to learn.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Huawei P20 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
2 more days to go before I got my hands on P20, will shot and compare image with P20, S7, OnePlus 5 and Sony A7 full frame without mention name on pics
P20 vs P10 portrait mode on
Below you can find a comparison on portrait mode quality between P20 and P10.
The photos where shot with portrait mode on and from distance of around 2meters. Same lighting conditions (basically shot in the same time).
The image is cropped a lot so you can see the difference in the detail level. Also the portrait mode recognized the face better and did a better job with the blur (cannot be seen in the sample).
I can also confirm that the low light performance is ... nigh and day difference. Overall, from my point of view, the camera upgrade is very much visible and worth it under most conditions.
with HDR on
Without tripod, night mode
Hi,
Posted this as a separate topic but no feedback so far, as this topic is specifically about the camera I'm looking forward to feedback here
I'm in the market for a new phone and really interested in the P20, it ticks a lot of boxes for me.
However the most important thing for me is the camera: I take a lot of pictures of my kids - often indoors
I went to 2 shops to test the phone and noticed that the pictures came out sharp but dark. The light grey carpet turned out dark grey in many instances.
Only when tapping on the screen (and focusing on the carpet) the brightness was increased but then the focus of the picture was on the carpet instead of the overall picture I wanted to take.
Also the pictures were sometimes not consistent, taking a couple of pictures in a row produced different results.
I tried switching on/off different settings but pictures remained quite dark.
The night mode really took a good picture but asking my kids to sit still for 4 seconds is nearly impossible*
Same thing for the P20 pro, pictures also turned out darker then irl.
The S9 was in the shop as well and this phone actually made everything a bit more bright then irl but the pictures seemed more pleasing.
Where I really had to focus on the picture to see what was in the darker parts in the P20's pictures, the S9's photo revealed all without effort.
Although a samsung user for a long time, I'm not attached to the brand, I was in fact really hoping to make a switch to another brand but the test pictures I took are putting me off a bit.
Anybody else experience this? Any advice on which combo of settings to try?
Cheers
B
Hi,
Does the p20 have ois or not ? Some sites say it does ( like gsmarena ) others do not mention anything.
Thanks !

i would say that p20 dont have OIS because there is only EIS in movies (there is a crop when recording 1080p video).
if you want a good camera i would choose the LG G6. my girlfriend bought it in the same time as i bought my p20. LG G6 is now cheap as hell, it has OIS, wide angle camea (it worth more than zoom in P20). and even that selfie camera has only 5Mpix in LG there is an autofocus (p20 dont have autofocus in selfie camera). photos from p20 are overexposed, green color is unnatural.
and LG G6 got few days ago Oreo and even that Snapdragon in LG is slower than Kirin the Andrid on LG is buttery smooth (P20 is not so smooth).
It DOES have OIS on both lenses, up to 108030fps, after that, at 108060fps it uses EIS and at 2160p it has zero IS.
Get your facts straight.

Hi @g_oral
I'we owned the LG G6 H870DS variant and I won't come back to LG too soon.
While all the other flagships received Oreo, the G6 was stuck on 7.0. And you know what is more frustating than that ? The annoying 7.0 bug in which the phone idle consumes more power than the screen on time ( which was resolved in 7.1 ).
Overall it was a great phone, but you cannot compare it to P20 which is a lot better than the G6 Also, camera performance was not stelar, I was not impressed.
P.S: G6 does not have autofocus on selfie camera, only HTC 10 does

Selfie camera does much better work in lg g6. The colora are better, not overexposed, you can tap the sceen for exposure balance.
I can say that p20 is not worth the money. I bought it because of the free bose headphones but without them p20 should have price of lg g6. Not more.
Camera is basically overhyped ..not better than even old s7 edge, pixel or HTC U11 unless you love over sharpening and oversaturation..Its worse mostly when you take photos of faces look like oil painting
I like the back camera. Can make some nice pictures that are good for making edits.
Night mode is also impressive.
Overall not disappointed.

For me, the camera has given pretty good results, the sharpening is good, but in night mode is oversharpened, colors may be a little bit intense, not saturated. In video is a deception just for the stabilization (i fix that with Photos app) and the selfie is good with enough light and if you go to snapseed and use the brush tool with -0.3EV. To summarize, is a great camera if you can spend time fixing its tiny errors, but if you don't, it's just what you can expect from a high-end smartphone this days.
I have a Honor 10, and i would like to change for a P20. Because photos are important for me...But i'm not sure... my question is , Is there a big difference (in photo) between the Honor 10 and the P20 ? Somebody already tried the Honor 10 and the P20 ? I see a lot of comparaison on the web always with different results...
Many thanks guys
I have attached some photos I've taken on my P20 pro here in the UK raw photos not actually edited

I quite like the camera. There are some things to consider though:
- Master AI goes crazy from time to time (too much color) but does really help in other situations (e.g. automatic bokeh effect)
- Even with Master AI turned off there are occasions where the lighting and / or the subject lead to strange effects. E.g. sometimes the hair of our dog looks like a painting when zooming a little bit into the picture.
- The image processing tends to oversharpen
Overall I would say the Pixel 2 and even the S9 take good photos more constantly but for me the combination of screen size, device size, camera quality and battery life is best on the Huawei P20. I hope that they improve the mentioned problems or that a good Pixel Camera app port arrives (not much hope as we have a different processor)

How to take long Exposure shots in moto G5 plus?

I have a rooted moto G5 plus with stock ROm Android Oreo 8.1.0, and Camera2API is enabled.
I tried various camera apps to get longer shutter speeds.
I tried manual camera, Open Camera, Camers FV 5, FreedCam etc
But none worked as expected.
I achieved maximum of 0.6s seconds but it is far far small for taking long exposure shots.
Can someone please help me to get longer (say 5s, 10s or more) shutter speeds.

I've searched for something like this too, it seems camera fv 5 can take the longest shots at 0.6", which is weird as even low end huawei phones (like honor 7 lite) can expose for 10". I believe it would require some custom camera libs but I don't see how that could be pulled off.
Try searching for "defcomg" and long shutter , exposure

A developer here called "defcomg" is responsible for a lot of the mods for the Moto G5 Plus camera. I remember seeing a mod he did that allowed crazy long shutter speeds for the Moto G5 Plus. I believe it was not just seconds but minutes.

Thank you. But, now I already searched for all threads and mods by defcomg, and I am unable to find the mod for Moto g5 plus.
If you or someone else can provide a direct link, it would really help me.

Which version of gcam should we install?
I have bad connection where I'm at or I'd link it but go in the apps forum for s10+ and look in the gcam thread
Edit:here you go
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-0IPqg_Uh0YWXHs7z1_31XARuZeRqzlp/view
It on USA models (at least on mine):
Turn On Scene Optimiser:
1
Open the Camera app
2
Tap the Scene Optimiser icon to turn in on (blue)
Turn On Scene Optimiser
Once Scene Optimiser is active, and when the Galaxy S10 recognises a lack of light, it will switch to Galaxy S10 Night Scene Night Scene. From there, you'll see a pop up on the display asking to keep the device a steady as possible. The image will freeze for 2 to 3 seconds while the camera takes 7 photos and compresses them to a single Super Night Shot.

Dude, that has been out since day one and is NOT NIGHT MODE. That's the automatic mode which uses scene optimizer.
Night mode for camera IS NOT AVAILABLE ON US SNAPDRAGON 4G MODELS YET, period.
