2nd day. Cracked. gonna cry - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Case comes in Saturday....slipped off my lap getting out of car and this happened.

OMG. T.T I'm sooooo sorry. Yeah, this is the exact reason I bought cases before getting my phone. I can relate to having to wait to get a case, as that's what happened with both my S3 and S6. Was paranoid AF that I'd drop the phone and damage it.
Got lucky that nothing happened before I got the cases, though in the case of my S6, the guy I bought it from included one, which he didn't mention that he'd include one, so that was a nice surprise when I got the phone. But, since then, I definitely made sure I was prepared so I'd have something Day 1 of getting my S8+.
Is there anything you can do about it or... do you just have to live with a broken back?

Thanks. I'm going to switch out the back glass this weekend hopefully. Can't do anything about the scuffs on the plastic, but better than nothing

True, true. Until then, just be careful that you don't cut yourself on the glass. Just curious, how high was the drop? Crazy that it cracked so easily. Then again... it IS glass...

Literally 2.5 feet. Im kinda dissapointed:/

I already have two cases and a screen protector, i pick up my phone tomorrow.
Sorry this happened to you

it was my own carelessness not paying attention and lack of getting a case in time... altho i honestly didnt think id recieve the phone on the 19th either.

That's why I was using my s5 outdoor till I get my spigen case :crying: I'm sorry for your loss :crying:

Know how it feels my s7 Edge has a cracked back even with the uag case on it

how can one be this careless , ouch

Omg I want to cry for you, I know how this happened when I dropped my note 5 a few weeks after getting it! The phone doesn't feel the same after

The drops that hit the corners are often killers.

... That's not even waist height. :/ Expected a corner dent or whatnot on the metal frame, buttttt... didn't think the glass would break at such a low height.

Who you buy it through?

That corner damage looks worse than any of the drop test videos.

No need to pour salt in the wound with insults.

You put the phone on your lap in your car? You kind of deserve it. It's an expensive phone, you should have been way more careful with it, especially without a case.

I've done this multiple times. It's not hard.

I had a few slips yesterday so have ordered a case that was delivered this morning!
I was going to leave it a few weeks but came to close to amazing it. I even left it I'm the house where I went out to do some . Even errands.
Running

Rule nunber 1. NEVER EVER EVER put a phone on your lap when in a car.
Im sorry that happen to your phone that sucks.
My wife drop her note 7 (second recall device) 10mins after walking out the store. Only crack the bad. I did a claim for it paid the $175 got a new one the next day and then 3 days later oh note 7 recalled again.
But me myself i like to have cases and screen protectors day one

Had an accident

I had an accident on my bike today... got bumped from behind by a car while going at 50 or so and lost control of the bike. Got saved by my helmet, rolling away and this fancy biking jacket my brother got me (think it has kevlar in it) but my bag flipped open and my Note went flying.
So I'm okay and thankful for that. But my Note hit the ground hard and split open... It's got two deep scratches on the glass (about 2mm long each) and a few lighter ones, plus a big scrape on the plastic casing at the bottom. This sucks so much .
Do you guys know if I could give it to Samsung to replace the glass? Will that be expensive? My phone's working fine but every time I look at it, those scratches almost physically hurt.
Its the first time I've ought such an expensive phone. Can't bear to see it like this...
Don't know about fixing the note but glad you are okay!

That was terrible man. Glad you are okay, but sad with your note. I have a question, dont you guys buy insurance with such an expensive phone?
I pay 36 norwegian kroner/month (about 7 USD) in insurance, so I am covered if my GNote get stolen or smashed in an accident like this.

Me too. Managed to slow the bike a bit so I was fine, didn't even get anything more than a few minor scratches on me. Was just a bit shaken up, and really pissed. The stupid car sped off when he saw I was okay.
Actually feel a little guilty for feeling so crappy about my phone when I'm okay.

[ignore this]Don't have insurance for phones easily available here. I think. (I live in India).
Sorry. Was just looking. I was just ignorant about that. There are insurance policies are there or phones here, just not advertised.

You should be happy your not injured as it could have been worse, especially when your on a bike, as for the phone...if you don't like it how it looks try and contact Samsung or take it to where you bought it from and ask how much it would cost to fix ...i'd pay £100 for it if it came to that for a phone worth so much.

I don't know where you are physically located, but in the UK, I'd expect the car driver's insurance to pay for repairs to your note (assuming you were not at fault of course!). Failing that, your household contents insurance might cover it.

What the hell dude? The retailers always ask you to insure the device when you buy it for a small one time only amount. I had my galaxy s2 insured. Didn't bother with the note though. Did you manage to get the plate number of the car? And yeah, hope you recover fast, physically and psychologically...

That said, motorcycle riders should look into Boblbee products. Specifically their class 2 back protector aka backpack and their cellphone holder designed to survive such accidents.

It's called "an accident" for a reason.
Sorry about your accident bro! All that matters is that you are ok. Last month i've changed my screen under warranty (screen issues, lines etc) and a saw that the glass is glued to the amoled, it's one big sandwich, it comes with the front facing camera, home button, speaker and the screen plastic bezel. The screen with all the parts is around 300$.
Good luck!

How long did it take before you scuffed/scratched/dented your HTC One?

It took me 4 days before I botched my pristine One. I dropped it head-first from my lap when I was sitting on ceramic floor. Hence the dent on chamfered edge of the top corner
The dent is small enough to be unnoticable unless under scrutiny. But it's still there, especially visible on certain angle.
I just realised aluminium is such a soft metal, it's quite ductile, well.. given the drop distance.
I think I'll just leave the dent as it is, dont want to risk getting more imperfection, what about you?
I had a case on (Capdase Karapace touch), but it's a minimalist case that doesn't cover the upper and lower part of the phone. I want to expose the shiny aluminium. Guess I kinda get what I want, duh
What about you folks? I'm sure there are a few of you that still has his/her One in perfect condition since day one.
0 scratches on sensation, and sensation had hard life i drop my sensation so many times, when I drop first and last time htc one i scratched everything what i can scratch, never again in my life aluminium NEVER.

Just by answering this question saying that both of mine are still perfect is asking for trouble, lol... I HATE cases, they built this phone to look good, and dammit if I ain't going to show it off. With that said, oh noooooooooo....

You're VERY lucky that's typically the most vulnerable way to damage a glass. All my phones have been in perfect shape except for one. My girlfriend bought me the DNA for $740 cash for Valentines Day and when it was only three days old I cracked it. I'm talking nearly at launch, before it's repairable, and I was afraid of getting one back with a locked bootloader so I didn't insurance claim it.
Man was I scared to tell her. It was actually done when we were getting frisky in the bed and it and my Nexus 7 were under my pillow and I kind of fell down from a kneeling/standing position on top of it. When I finally told her she said "Whew, baby. Really? That's it, just the phone? I was so scared you got some kid pregnant or killed one of your exgirlfriends or something. You've really been freaking out I thought something terrible happened."
Of course I was like "HELLO! Something Terrible DID happen. I broke my DNA!!!"
Ended up trading an old device for another one because I was scared when they started RMA'ing devices with updated hboots that couldn't be unlocked and I'd rather not have a phone than have a stock one. Then I decided that was a defeatist attitude and got a riff box No lockin me out baby.

Lol That's a long story bro, you've got a nice gf btw hehe
Regarding the drop, really it's less than 20 cm (~8 in) distance, the phone slipped from my laps when I was sitting on the ground level. All of my plastic phone survive without a scratch.
I kinda pissed off with myself for not Choosing a full body case, tsk
Well whats done is done.
Double post
It took me a couple months. My headphones hung on my car when I was getting out and took a fall face first into asphalt. All that happened was I got minor scuffs on two of the corners.
Day after I got it (about two weeks ago)
Was on my way to the mall specifically to get a case for it (Incipio something) and it slipped outta my pocket getting out of the cab.
Nothing too major, but pretty annoying that I did it so soon!
My wife shattered her One less than 10 days after we bought ours. Not sure how it happened, but it clearly took a trip to pound town by way of ceramic floor (indoor water park). Praise Jeebus for insurance. :good:
Get a case.
Get a case get a case get a case.
Gone, are the brick Nokia phones, the small Sony Ericssons, the 240x320 Samsungs

It took quite a while. I'm in the marching band for my university, and I needed to call my mom while I was out so I had it in our pocket we have in the uniform.
While we were stretching I bent down, came back up and my phone fell straight onto the concrete ( probably 4.5 feet)
It managed the hit the crease between 2 slabs right over the ir blaster. So I have a nice dent...
Screen is still flawless. Lol.

Did mine yesterday. Had it wrapped in a towel on a radiator so I could listen to music in the bathroom. Somehow the phone got out of the towel, fell down the back of the radiator and jammed itself behind the pipes.
It's in an official hardshell case but still managed to chip the black plastic by the screen. Not that visible but I know it's there.
Bare in mind this is my 4th HTC one, 3 faulty ones in a row

mines in mint condition no marks or scuffs i have the red version since september before that i had black one that didnt get scuffed or marked either
I have a pre-order HTC One. No scratches, dents, scuffs. It's caseless.
I never had problems with the Evo3d like others did though. Two years and mine was still 100% perfect.
I already had 2 cases before i even got the One. I used the Commuter for the first 3.5 months and kept the phone in prestine condition. Recently i got tired of hiding the design, but i didn't want to risk scuffing the aluminum, so i went with a transparent case. So mine is still in perfect condition, i only took it out to apreciate the design once in a while in controlled conditions (usually at home).
I think going with a transparent case is the perfect compromise between looks and protection, only disadvantage is slightly ticker and can't feel the metal construction in your hands.
This is standard with me and phones I have... I've got the One for six months now, and I'm really happy to have the screen unscratched but the phone has fell out of my paints already several times...
I don't know why and or whatm, but this happens with every phone I've got way too often...
if i would use a case ... i may have gone into ordinary galaxy series with a big stupid case !
i got the ONE for the Built quailty premuim aluminum ... too pretty to hide it in a case.
although i use a bumper (backless case)
I got one spot on the back where it went from black to silver and i did it on the first day. It arrived in the mail before work and i was like no case no protector, But was dying to use my new toy so i took it to work. Was careful the whole day. Then i put my phone down on the table didn't slide it or nothing picked it up and there it was a dot. I have no idea how it happened it wasn't there when i opened it from the box. There was no rough are on the table neither. That day on break i went out and bought a cheap case and a cheap protector until i could order better ones..
Ive dropped my phone couple times n still no sign of marks.I have thin transparent case which has been awesome which also provides grip to it

But the thing is you cannot buy another One once it breaks. I would rather carry my Nexus 5 out than the unattainable Oneplus
My friend dropped mine on hard rocky concrete pattern just a day after I got the phone, it fell face down but surprisingly it didn't shatter, the top left edge of the screen has a chip and the bottom part got shipped exactly like in the video same f%^ing spot.
I'd say that OPO is pretty well built, the only other phone that fell on concrete and didn't break was Xperia Z2 and that thing is a tank.

No but it is easy to repair. You can also order the screen for cheap. Head over to the One plus forum to find the thread.
I actually dropped this thing lol. Charging cord is so short, and so "stuck" to the phone, that I went to check it when it was charging, and it got yanked back out of my hands, and hit the edge of the bed frame, and made a tiny dent in the chrome bezel.

Broke my screen - GoogleFI protection?

Hi All,
Haven't broken a screen in 4 years -first week with a bigger device slipped out of my hand when going into my pocket and the screen cracked. Weak as **** in my opinion but what are you going to do.
I contacted googlefi about nexus protect. They said they are going to be rolling out their own protection plan but could not tell me a launch date. Does anyone know anything about this?
I really can't believe this phone is that weak..

It must have hit just right. The other night I was reading in bed and nodded off for a second while holding the 6p. It hit the side table, then the hardwood floor. I'm not using a case, just a Skinomi full body and screen Tech Skin, but there wasn't a scratch. (phew!) As far as Fi offering protection, I gave up on that route and bought a Square Trade warranty instead.
Yes! Horrible phone because the OP doesn't handle it properly. Shame on Gorilla Glass and Huawei! /s

It did hit on the corner, the aluminum bezel bent right in which caused the glass to break - I have read many threads about the phone bending, I am a bit disappointed, I went with the 6p for the aluminum over plastic however this has only seemed to hurt me rather than help. Google told me their pricing options $5 / month and a $99 deductible however no idea when the plan was rolling out. They did advise I was eligible for when it comes out so now I guess I just have to wait. Phone works fine, just bothers me, I like my devices clean.

Wow, someone is a bit full of themselves aren't they? Correct, I do believe that a phone SHOULD NOT break with one drop from pocket height, I've owned countless smart phones in the past 4 years, none of which I broke the screen in that time; while I do not drop my device often and I take care of them mistakes happen. (My galaxy S4 still looks brand new). Therefore I am critiquing the build quality of this phone.

I'm not really sure what your point is, or why you are trolling. You are of no help to my thread. As I said mistakes happen, I made one, and dropped my phone. I'm not saying it is anyone's fault other than mine. I did however state I was DISAPPOINTED in the build quality as I do not believe one drop should crack a screen, especially from pocket height.
Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinions does not make them a troll. That word is thrown around WAY too many times around the here. I am not arguing with you, bud. But your bad luck doesn't mean that the phone is faulty. Glass shatters at different rates depending on speed, force, and angle. All of these phones you dropped did not drop at the same rate for these variables each time you dropped them. When the anger subsides, (and yes I get mad at myself also when i break something...human nature), just be an adult about it and chalk it up to a bad accident. Unless of course you are younger than an adult. In that case, I apologize and carry on

One drop on the corner will break a screen.
I have seen iPhones, Android of various brands break from pocket height.
All you need it the right location, angle, etc.
There is nothing wrong with the phone, you dropped it and it broke.
You can get it replaced right now. Project Fi offering one time replacements for $100 bucks

Galaxy s8 plus Broken

I bought on 24.04 a Galaxy s8 plus midnight black and a led cover for it after exactly 18 hrs i dropped the phone and it litterally "jumped" from the case when touching the ground and the screen got broken so i don't recommend led cover as a protection i will attach a few pictures of it
(I dropped from half a meter)
Btw i sold the phone for half price and today i will buy another one
Sorry to hear that! Glad you were able to at least salvage half the cost.
Just so we can all learn from your mistake, how did you drop the phone? I find it helpful to make a mental catalog of specific ways a phone can fall, so I can take care to avoid them.

My galaxy s8+ fell two times, first time from pocket height, 2nd time from my night stand. The back is all broken. Damn you Samsung. I love the design but this is just ridiculous. You're overgeneralizing. It really depends on the individual. I drop my phone much less than once a year, and have never used a protector or broken a phone.
If I had the habit of dropping it more than once a year, I'd probably get a case. If I dropped it as often as you do, I'd probably swathe it in bubble wrap.

I've dropped the S8+ twice, both times the screen shattered. It is the most fragile item I have ever owned.

are u serious? how far distance did u dropped it? 1 meter?
One would expect that the backside is just as strong (or weak) as the front side. Unfortunately that is not the case. The backside cracks easily. But apparently it's not an expensive part to replace.

Except that there are thousands of ways to be careless, and if you want to avoid them it helps to know what they are.

One way to remember. You're carrying an almost $1k piece of glass enclosed with your life and access to the world.
Viva la plastique phones.

My galaxy s8+ fell two times, first time from pocket height, 2nd time from my night stand. The back is all broken. Damn you Samsung. I love the design but this is just ridiculous. I've never used a protector for my Nexus 6p, it must have fallen over 25 times in the 2 years I've owned it and only some minor scratches.
Be warned, this is not a phone to use without protection.

Thats pretty funny my nexus 6p still works also fell out of my jacket pocket(stupid mistake forgot to take it out) while riding my motorcycle. Doing 50mph and getting run over at least a few times in surprised it wasn't completely destroyed.
I am here in china.. And yesterday i broke my screen.. I coming back from playing soccer and phone was in side pocket and boom it fell down and cracked on right bottom corner..any suggestions what should i do...
I'm sorry to hear that. I think now I'm going to start using my Spigen case.
