I've upgraded from a nexus 6 to the galaxy s8+. I did not realize how much I took the google phone app forsaken its functionality phone calls Id's voicemail built into the app. Samsung's phone app is bare bones in comparison while I've tried installing the google phone apk it does not work, unfortunately. Does anyone know of a similar app that they would recommend?
I use Google phone app on my S8. I sideloaded it by installing apk file.

This version is working for me.
Google Phone 7.0.140861421-nonnexus
Google Contacts 1.6.20
Here's the newest version, and you can get the newest contacts app from apkmirror. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-google-dialer-t3557412
I managed to install this version on my G8 Plus Google Phone 7.0.140861421-nonnexus and it is working. When I tried to installed anything from version 8 and up I get an alert that the app is not compatible. How can I install the latest version?

So I posted this in the Apps section, but perhaps there's more patched BB10 versions that will work on Kindle.
"So, I was browsing the Blackberry Playbook forums. They can install converted apk's, but not Google Framework (similar to Kindle). Cobalt232 posted a few instructions on getting the latest version of Google Maps working for BB10.
Overall, the app works with directions, but the text is a little messed up. Give it a try, perhaps BB10 and Kindle users could cooperate on apps.
I have Google Account Manager, Services Framework, and Play Services installed. Not sure if the app will work otherwise

Hi.. I am looking to install google now launcher on my AT&T Galaxy S5.. I was just wondering will there any issues with using the launcher and Google Now.. I am big fan of them both. Also when Google updates either of these, will i be able to update in Play Store?? I am asking this because I am side loading the launcher. Response is appreciated.
I tried to but can't, maybe change to Nexus 5 in build.prop.
For now you will have to side load any update to that app until Google makes it available for non nexus devices. As you probably already know sideloading works perfectly fine
I prefer an older version of the Google Maps app. In order to prevent an update, I've gone into the Play store and set for no automatic updates. And yet Maps keeps presenting me with the latest version when I open the app. It happens daily. I'm running android 4.4.2 on a Galaxy s5 G900a. It's rooted and running the Dynamic Kat ROM. Baseband is g900aucu1ance. This has got me scratching my head--my other apps don't seem to be self-updating. I've posted this in the Dynamic Kat thread, but I just can't see that flashing DK could have caused this, since no other apps are doing it.
I used to prefer the old maps too..but now use google maps and another one called My maps..also a google app..basically its the spin off of the maps feature of all your maps you have made online.. Its actually nice once you get the hang of it..but that was the main reason for me to stick with older versions..but now..b
No need..
I'm trying Nokia Here. This Google maps auto update thing is really making me angry.

I'd there an updated version of Google play services? Seems to be draining battery?
I was interested too. I wanted to update to Android Pay, but it requires the next version of Play Services. I looked on APKMirror, but no play services with our suffix (440).
But, as it turns out, there is a new naming scheme, which means we're looking for 240 instead of 440. See http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...lipop-devices-and-more-apk-teardown-download/
Just loaded it up and it appears to work fine. It initially threw an error for Android wear, but after few seconds, it cleared and I was able to install Android Pay.
Thanks, I'll load it up and see if this helps the battery life cause it has been pretty brutal so far.
My phone came with 8.1.

Give it a few days and see if it settles down. Mine was killing battery for first few days, and has calmed down somewhat
I updated my Google Play Services and I recently started getting a message in Google Fit that Activity Detection is off. I click on it and it acts like it will take me somewhere and it never does. Same when I try and view the Google Maps Time line. When I go into location settings Location Services is missing.
Any ideas?
Can I reinstall Location Services somehow?
Can I downgrade back to whatever version of Google Play Services that came on the phone?
When I try and install the 240 version it says App Not Installed
I got it fixed renaming the com.google.android.gms-8.1.15_(2250156-240)-8115240-minAPI21.apk to GmsCore.apk and replacing the one in /system/priv-app/GmsCore/GmsCore.apk
And of course changing the permissions to match the one that was in there. I then rebooted and then it let me install the com.google.android.gms-8.1.15_(2250156-240)-8115240-minAPI21.apk
That restored my Google Location Services!
Make sure to install Google Play Service apk's that are meant for your device!
It tells me to install on phone but it's on my phone. How can I fix this someone else told me to download an older version of the app on app mirror I did but still no luck is there a certain one I need to download or is there another way around it?

Same here on LG urban 2nd edition
I think the watch app for Messenger isn't optimized for Android Wear 2.0 yet, as you know many apps were broken after the update where Google does not care at all.
try install facebook messenger version 122 on your phone and try again
The Facebook Messenger app on Wear is literally just a notification receiver, with conversation UI, and a nice little "Install on your phone now" screen. Found after doing some searching on Google that this behavior is common to the app.
