about the new features in moto g5 plus. - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

IDK of you guys saw, bit in Moto g5 plus there's and option to use the finger print scanner as home, back, and recent application key altogether by swiping the sensor and thus disable the in screen buttons, do you guys think this is possible to port to g4 plus?

Something like this method, for example? https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/guide-root-how-to-fingerprint-button-t3425403

Software annoyances with Marshmallow/6P

I recently switched from a Droid Turbo to a 6P for the sole reason of I needed the unlocked radio abilities that the Nexus line offers and I was unable to obtain with other phones. (Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx I have plenty of threads on this around). Aside from the Verizon bloat and added software, I loved that phone.
The Nexus 6P is a very good phone on it's own, aside from the size, but I am having a few adjustment issues that some of you might be able to help me out with. I've read that most switchers from the Droid line of phones are unhappy with the Nexus Active Display compared to the Moto version. Just curious if anybody has found a worthy software that has been able to replicate or was able to port the Moto Display over to the 6P? I would be very interested and even willing to shell out $ to help that progress. The Nexus version just seems so unfinished. It very rarely wakes up upon movement and I really enjoyed how I could just wave my hand near my Turbo and I would get the time and notifications.
But my biggest issue with the software of the 6P is the fact that the bottom navigation buttons are software based and do not stay put or visible at all times. I hold the device mostly with my left hand in landscape mode and it doesn't matter which way I am holding it (the top is to the right or left) the navigation buttons are on the right side. If they would just stay put where they are supposed to be, on the bottom of the phone, I could easily use this phone one handed in landscape mode. But I cannot currently. The second part of this issue is the immersive full screen mode where they keep making my navigation buttons disappear! Ok, the screen is big enough, I do not need that extra 4 mm of screen real estate. Leave the buttons visible so I can use them please. I hate the extra screen tap and then delay to be able to back out. The video player is even worse, only allowing a small x to be pressed to back out. I've tried Immersive Full Screen Mode and a few others including Power Toggle but none lock the immersive full screen off. So does anybody know of or have a remedy to lock the navigation buttons and keep them visible? I'm also of the apparent minority that prefers the notification bar to always be visible as well.
Thanks for any help offered.
You may have to wait till some custom roms hit the scene. Sounds like a rom with pie controls would be what you seek.
Yea I was afraid of that. I was hoping there was another secret menu out there that allows control of these features.
I am annoyed with the stock messaging app...does a decent job, however it always crashes when attempting to access through the app switcher. I hate having to go back to the home screen to access my text messages.

acDisplay worked pretty well on my HTC One.
Looks pretty good, but it disables my fingerprint security. With it on I can press the power button and gain access or just swipe up. If I use the built in lock screen, after unlocking with the fingerprint, it still gives the acdisplay lock screen. Perhaps it just needs a marshmallow update to work specifically with this phone. I will continue to monitor it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd load Xposed with gravity box. Keeps you on AOSP and you'll have PIE, and many options for the nav bar alone.
How does one get this immersive display where the navigation buttons hide? I'm curious about this feature
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
It's built into the apps. The Google Photos app, any video playback, a lot of apps and games that I have automatically go into it. There's also plenty of apps, I mentioned one above, that you can install and get immersive all the time. Be aware though, I got myself into a bit of a jam as it removed the back and home buttons and I couldn't exit a certain app.

Moto actions on N6p?

In this thread, @akashkyh managed to port the widget from the new Moto z: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3410644.
Is there a way to port some of the other Moto features? (Specifically chop twice for flashlight.) I've been looking for a while, and the closest thing I've been able to find is twisty launcher, but that only launches the camera or some other app. That's not bad, but it doesn't add any additional functionality since I can just double tap the power button.

lockscreen problem Moto G4 Nougat

Hi anyone else experiencing a bug where it takes like 5/6 trys to slide the lockscreen up. Its like im not sliding up enough but im going off the top of the screen i have to flick like 20 times sometimes.
Indeed Nougat seems to require a slightly different swipe-up-to-unlock action than Marshmallow. If you're going off the top of your screen, though, you are doing it wrong. You're not catching Pokémon, just slowly swipe up about an inch, that should already trigger the unlock. Do a practice run, see how slow and short you can do it, you'll be surprised.
I also have this problem since the update to Nougat, sometimes the screen will unlock with a short swipe and others you have to go the full length of the screen!
I have taken the screen lock off for now as i am fed up with swiping 5+ times to unlock the phone
If you disable swipe to shrink screen in moto actions then it works fine.

Yeah it works fine with swipe to shrink disabled now thanks
Shame that the swipe to shrink is causing the problem.
I can confirm the issue, and for the moment, also the solution! Thanks guys

Had same problem but this didn't fix it for me. Ended up disabling/enabling Moto app. Noticed System UI tuner had disappeared so re-enabled that also. So far so good...
This is an old thread, but my findings may be relevant. A short time ago, I also started to have problems with all sort of swiping, on the home screen, but also when swiping away notifications or within apps. (Ironic, since I initially discarded those problems in the first answer here. Mea culpa.)
Eventually, I found the reason for it. I used a small app, "Media Volume Only", which hooked into the special "read phone status" permissions (in this case to monitor and modify volume keys behaviour). I assume in the process of monitoring gestures/keys it interferes with swiping actions. After disallowing, disabling and deinstalling this app, my swiping actions are as responsive as they should be.
So if you still have problems with swiping, it may well worth looking into these apps that carry that special permission.
Disaable all smart lock option.
Mainly on body detection option.
Thanks....
Its working 100%

You nailed it! Not only does their "Swipe to shrink screen" feature work TERRIBLY, as if that wasn't poor enough execution, it works terribly at the expense of making the swipe to unlock so completely frustratingly UNRELIABLE.
These folks need to take a leaf out of Huawei's book and make the swipe to shrink, work by swiping horizontally across the navigation bar ... (Huawei, incidentally, are FAR from perfect and need to fix their TERRIBLY laggy, sluggish phones) - you can SEE why people side with iPhone, can't ya!

On body detection is the reason in my case.
Problem solved now

Can't use Fingerprint Sensor with 3rd Party Lock Screen

I'm SO frustrated. The stock Marshmellow Lock Screen is terrible. One of the poor design points of Android for quite some time now. There are much better lock screens such as Microsoft Next, Hi Locker, etc. Some of which (like the ones mentioned) support fingerprint unlock.
The problem with the G6 is that it won't allow you to setup a fingerprint, WITHOUT enabling the system lock screen!
There's other apps that use fingerprint option, such as LastPass app. Can't use it unless you have System Lock screen enabled.
Pathetic

#1. Why are you on Marshmallow? Most G6's launched with 7.0
#2. I barley see my lockscreen. I just put my finger on the scanner and it unlocks. I don't see a point in having one anymore.

Especially with AOD the lock screen is very rarely seen. With knock on and the finger print scanner being very accurate on this device, I don't use the lock screen ever. I suppose if you use the swipe to unlock it's still relevant.

First the absence of a notification LED.... now this catastrophe!
Life's really tough.
Sorry I got my sweets all mixed up. I meant Nougat, not Marshmellow.
Everyone has different objectives of how they use their smartphone. For me, I'm not one to be using my phone frequently throughout the day. This is a key difference between me and a lot of typical users, especially the younger generation that is doing SMS/Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram/YouTube/Etc much of the day. I for one must have repeating sound alarms for missed SMS and phone calls as the LED indicator doesn't do any good when you aren't always glancing at your phone. I can leave it in another room for much of the day. So I guess I don't miss an LED indicator on my G6. (I use Prof Reminder app). When I do turn on my phone I want to see vital info right up front. That is:
- Text of missed SMS messages
- Missed phone calls
- Upcoming appointments for the next few days
- Weather for the next 3-5 days
I used to use C Locker which lets you put any widgets you want on the lock screen but I'm preferring the simplicity and look of MS Next Lock Screen now.
Anyhoo, my preference is to double tap screen to see my lock screen with all the info, then if I want to unlock, use the fingerprint sensor. The stock lock screen SUCKS.
The bottom line is that use of the fingerprint sensor should be independent of the lock screen setting. This would be like saying you can only use the home button with the stock home screen and couldn't use Nova Launcher.

Camera shortcut on the lockscreen

Hi,
I used to have a Galaxy S5 and when it's screen was locked I could simply press the camera icon and slide my finger for the camera to start (this wouldn't unlock the phone, it would simply let me take pictures). Is there a way to do this on the G5 Plus?

Install a third party lock screen
Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Mine does this without third party lockscreen I just tested.
When I lock the phone my self I can do that, but when the phone locks it self after 30 seconds the camera shortcurt is not there.
I think something might be wrong? I just tested waiting and it worked that way also so maybe it should be working even if its not for you. I have G5 Plus 64 GB US version stock firmware.
Tested too, working fine here.
32/3 GB French xt1685.
When it's locked and moved, there is no shortcuts (glance) but after pressing the power button the shortcuts are available.
