I want to enable on-screen navigation keys.
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 does not work, it doesn't work on any moto that I know of. I have a moto x and a maxx, I've compared build.prop files and don't see anything promising. Does someone know if we have to deodex and modify framework to accomplish this?
UPDATE:
I went as far as creating an xposed module that sets "config_showNavigationBar" to 'true' in \framework-res.apk\res\values\bools.xml. It is 'false' by default.
I know the module works because I set "config_camera_sound_forced" to 'true' and it does indeed force the camera shutter sound. No errors in xposed log.
Still, no on-screen navigation bar.
What the fraq?
By the way, I know this belongs in q&a and it will be moved, but it will probably get seen here more times in the amount of time it takes to get moved than it would be seen if it set in q&a for a week. Sorry, just focus on the op please.

sorry. i was going to post this along time ago but interest seemed a little low so i never got around to it

I've been using UDN Pro for this. Down side is that when the keys are enabled, your screen won't resize to account for the buttons.
I've always been dependent on the on screen navbar to multitask effectively. UDN allows you to add custom apps, but doesn't allow shortcuts (which is a bummer).
With such a large phone, the "back" button is awkwardly placed, which can be treacherous when operating one-handed...Just hoping that some ROMS come out soon that allow on screen navbar customization, so I don't drop my expensive dev edition.

I recently switched from a Droid Turbo to a 6P for the sole reason of I needed the unlocked radio abilities that the Nexus line offers and I was unable to obtain with other phones. (Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx I have plenty of threads on this around). Aside from the Verizon bloat and added software, I loved that phone.
The Nexus 6P is a very good phone on it's own, aside from the size, but I am having a few adjustment issues that some of you might be able to help me out with. I've read that most switchers from the Droid line of phones are unhappy with the Nexus Active Display compared to the Moto version. Just curious if anybody has found a worthy software that has been able to replicate or was able to port the Moto Display over to the 6P? I would be very interested and even willing to shell out $ to help that progress. The Nexus version just seems so unfinished. It very rarely wakes up upon movement and I really enjoyed how I could just wave my hand near my Turbo and I would get the time and notifications.
But my biggest issue with the software of the 6P is the fact that the bottom navigation buttons are software based and do not stay put or visible at all times. I hold the device mostly with my left hand in landscape mode and it doesn't matter which way I am holding it (the top is to the right or left) the navigation buttons are on the right side. If they would just stay put where they are supposed to be, on the bottom of the phone, I could easily use this phone one handed in landscape mode. But I cannot currently. The second part of this issue is the immersive full screen mode where they keep making my navigation buttons disappear! Ok, the screen is big enough, I do not need that extra 4 mm of screen real estate. Leave the buttons visible so I can use them please. I hate the extra screen tap and then delay to be able to back out. The video player is even worse, only allowing a small x to be pressed to back out. I've tried Immersive Full Screen Mode and a few others including Power Toggle but none lock the immersive full screen off. So does anybody know of or have a remedy to lock the navigation buttons and keep them visible? I'm also of the apparent minority that prefers the notification bar to always be visible as well.
Thanks for any help offered.
You may have to wait till some custom roms hit the scene. Sounds like a rom with pie controls would be what you seek.
Yea I was afraid of that. I was hoping there was another secret menu out there that allows control of these features.
I am annoyed with the stock messaging app...does a decent job, however it always crashes when attempting to access through the app switcher. I hate having to go back to the home screen to access my text messages.

acDisplay worked pretty well on my HTC One.
Looks pretty good, but it disables my fingerprint security. With it on I can press the power button and gain access or just swipe up. If I use the built in lock screen, after unlocking with the fingerprint, it still gives the acdisplay lock screen. Perhaps it just needs a marshmallow update to work specifically with this phone. I will continue to monitor it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd load Xposed with gravity box. Keeps you on AOSP and you'll have PIE, and many options for the nav bar alone.
How does one get this immersive display where the navigation buttons hide? I'm curious about this feature
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
It's built into the apps. The Google Photos app, any video playback, a lot of apps and games that I have automatically go into it. There's also plenty of apps, I mentioned one above, that you can install and get immersive all the time. Be aware though, I got myself into a bit of a jam as it removed the back and home buttons and I couldn't exit a certain app.

So I got my grey Axon 7 yesterday and after a whole day of playing around with things, I have come up with a short list of things I would love to see implemented into a custom ROM. I do not care if it is a modded-stock ROM, enhanced version of CM- but these things would make my experience so much better.
1. Camera fixes - Specifically, the front-facing camera. If this can be done on the software side, that is my main concern.
2. Lockscreen - Please please please implement an always-on feature that works properly. Coming from the Moto X pure, it has been less than awesome having to press the power button to see a notification, or use the slow DTTW.
3. Get rid of that stupid bell! We all hate the bell. Get rid of the bell. It is not charming. It is not fun.
4. Enable on-screen nav buttons - The capacitive buttons are surprising decent, but I would rather use on-screen buttons myself.
5. Screen-on-time stats- Yes I know I can use GSAM or BBS for this, but there is no place in the huge menu of power options to see the actual screen-on-time for the device. Extremely silly.
6. This one is a long shot, but the double tap to wake is very very slow. This might be a kernel thing and farther down the line, but I would love to see the double tap activate faster.
Anyone have things on their wishlist? Post them!
Native notification badges.
When I swipe the drawer down, I wish the functions (wifi, bluetooth etc) would scroll left and right to access the rest.
Customizable quick settings would be nice. Including adding DND and other options to the options.
- Black/dark theme with this Amoled display
- optional on-screen buttons
- advanced usage of fingerprintscanner, like: flashlight if long pressed while in standby, multi-way scrolling (remember those HTC home buttons that had a scroll function integrated), gestures (quick cam access...)
- two colored dual led for better white tones
- improved cam software specially for low light environment
- aosp edition
- released sources for all proprietary devices like OP3 did

CyanogenMod / sultan rom with xposed module. The hardware is good on the phone but the software is mediocre. Sometimes I double tap and nothing happens or its super delayed. My OPO running sultan responds immediately on any double to wake. The fingerprint reader can be finicky.
I would move to the axon 7 fully Tomorrow if CyanogenMod rom was available. Right now I am just testing it out and contemplating whether to send it back.
Oh and I hate that dang notification bell. I don't understand the thought process at axon 7 that thought some things would be a good idea. The capacitive buttons also annoy me highly. They are too close together and not backlit. If in the future you want to use a custom ROM and use on screen buttons you'll still have those permanently viewable capacitive buttons there. That was terrible idea from axon. I wish I could find the person but who sitting at meeting and said "that's a great idea" and have a strong conversation with them.
The axon 7 is so close to being a fantastic phone but the software, poorly optimized implementations and capacitive buttons are really limiting to it.
Hoping custom ROMs come to the rescue. The screen and general hardware are all great. Even the camera could be improved through software. ZTE is really in an important time now to foster the phone. If they don't embrace that I think the axon 7 will be a "it was almost great phone" and forgotten. Remember the new Nexus is coming out soon so they will be soon overshadowed. Not to mention the op3 is still a great phone with wonderful software implementation.

You can have quick cam access with the fingerprintscanner if you dont use all your fingers for unlocking your phone...i am using my middle finger for example to quick open the camera...you have to go to settings - fingerprint- Quick open app.
you think zte read this and remake it? nice dream
only camera can be better. i don't understand why they can' t copy samsung s6 camera? this will be best phone ever

The software can be better, and that's something that ZTE can actually change.
so they are blind or what? if this is from software.
@lcatel idol 3 6039h
My only wish is improve system and increase the battery, that's it.
I just got the phone and I'm not sure I would keep it as the software is really the weak spot. The OnePlus 3 software is perfect, it does everything I need and the OP's needs as well. The hardware isn't as feature rich as the Axon 7. If Cyanogenmod 14 comes out for this phone, it'll be a winner. Then we just need a CM14 based custom rom that would be great. Right now I would love to have the OnePlus 3 rom on the Axon 7. I could use the on-screen buttons or not and switch buttons as well as customize the function. That's what Axon 7 should have. ZTE is much bigger company than OnePlus they need to get their act together.
simple. just take this phone and make the screen 6 inches. add an FM chip, IR blaster, and wireless charging. Perfection!!!!
Edit:and a digital tv tuner like The Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV
Edit:UFS sdcard support
I believe the phone is perfect, but here are my thoughts:
1- The impossible one: Light up those capacitive buttons!!
2-Maybe give us the option for onscreen navigation buttons?
That's it.

That's called the Moto Nexus 6. AND it was too big.
But I agree with the other specs you mention especially the Qi wireless charging and IR blaster), just not the screen size.
Give a legit music player, the stock one is a terrible.

You could use ACDisplay in the meantime. It's similar to the Moto phones' notification screen, and it works great.
Camera updates
Kernel updates
Android n
Android n themed notification panel
Stock android lock screen
Ram optimisations & zram implementations.
Hifi dac and Dolby for all apps.
On screen buttons. My only gripe. Can't believe they won't even give the choice right now. Sucks that they will always be visible as well... Such potential but so disappointed.

hi,just wondering what kind of bell you mean?
IDK of you guys saw, bit in Moto g5 plus there's and option to use the finger print scanner as home, back, and recent application key altogether by swiping the sensor and thus disable the in screen buttons, do you guys think this is possible to port to g4 plus?
Something like this method, for example? https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/guide-root-how-to-fingerprint-button-t3425403
Hi,
I used to have a Galaxy S5 and when it's screen was locked I could simply press the camera icon and slide my finger for the camera to start (this wouldn't unlock the phone, it would simply let me take pictures). Is there a way to do this on the G5 Plus?

Install a third party lock screen
Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Mine does this without third party lockscreen I just tested.
When I lock the phone my self I can do that, but when the phone locks it self after 30 seconds the camera shortcurt is not there.
I think something might be wrong? I just tested waiting and it worked that way also so maybe it should be working even if its not for you. I have G5 Plus 64 GB US version stock firmware.
Tested too, working fine here.
32/3 GB French xt1685.
When it's locked and moved, there is no shortcuts (glance) but after pressing the power button the shortcuts are available.
