factory reset doesn't work - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After flashing my s4+ i9506 by odin3 , the phone continue starting without wipe data (fact. reset)
how to resolve this ( i need odin mode only )

Power off the phone, hold down the home, volume up, and power button. Let go of the power button when the phone starts to boot. This should take you to recovery mode to perform a factory reset.

S4 not booting :/

my mobile phone refuses to boot and gives me a wierd battery sign that keeps coming on and off every 10 secs
Go to recovery by holding volume up + home key + power button
Scroll by volume keys
Then wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache
Then reboot
If nothing did happen you may need to flash new firmware

Factory Reset with Odin

The touchscreen of my rooted S4 is not working anymore and I want to sell the device now. Is it possible to factory reset via Odin? If so, how would I do it?
I recommend booting into download mode using the button combo, flashing with Odin, and then perform a factory wipe. It can be done using buttons, not the touch screen.

Can you elaborate in a little more detail how the factory reset works with buttons in odin or download mode?
If you just want to factory reset and the phone is running a stock recovery, power off the phone, press and hold the home button, volume up, and power button. Once the phone starts to boot, release the power button and keep holding down the volume up and home. When you get into recovery, perform a factory wipe.
Is the phone an s4 sgh-i337 from AT&T phone?

Yes, I have a SGH-I337. I cannot boot into the safestrap recovery anymore, it waits a few seconds and boots right into android.
Sorry, the method I suggested will work with stock recovery.
Maybe this thread will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642

S7 Edge Bricked

I recently (successfully?) rooted my phone, but couldn't make phone calls or texts so I tried factory resetting it. The factory reset worked but I still had the root and I couldnt make calls or texts, so I tried multiple times to unroot it through Odin and it said it worked on my last attempt, but now my phone is stuck on a black screen and a blue LED pops up. I get no vibrations or feedback from my phone. I've tried all the combos to reset, down home power, down power, power home up, home power, all of them. My only hope is to let the phone die of power and recharge it and see if it will work. Does anyone have any ideas? When I plug it in to my computer it wont detect it either.
check your IMEI with *#06#!
when you have no IMEI you need the EFS BackUp...hope you have it.

power button + volume down. When it reboots, quickly get into download mode the same way you would normally. And same as above post, EFS back.. if it's not resolved from factory reset.
I have had this problem.
If you just hold power vol- down it will reboot and when reeboting, just keep holding the same buttons until you get the Download Mode.
If not try holding power vol- up until geeting into recovery, then go trough download mode from there.
You just have to hold the buttons down, it wil maybe restart but just keep holding these buttons trough the restarts.
In download mode you have to do a fresh install with a rom of your choice from Sammobile, orginal firmware.
And remember to never Factory Reset your phone after innstaling ROOT and Recovery.
The best way to do factory reset after these are firmware flash trough Odin.

SM-J730G/DS (32gb)

Can anyone tell me if my phone is beyond irreparable? It is not booting up no matter how much I try and even resort to hard resets, etc(Volume Down/Up + Power Button). Tried going to the safe mode or the factory settings to hard reset and failed. Tried connecting it to an outlet/pc and screen just goes like this imgur(.)com/a/l6UWB6J
Just remove the ( ) in the pic, sorry I don't know insert image
Go to download mode (Vol-, power button and home button)
If it works you should try rebooting fro there (just press volume down)
If not i recommend you to reinstall the stock rom

phone wont stay on long enough to do anything

My note 4 wont stay on not even long enought to login to the play store, it just freezes for a second and reboots.
would it be possible to fix it with a custom rom and theres a way to install without installing any app on the phone
Hey there, you can try to do a factory data reset if the phone boots into recovery mode.
NOTE: A factory data reset will wipe the whole device including the internal storage.
To enter into recovery mode, power off the phone. Then, hold the vol up + home + power buttons together till you see the Samsung splash screen. When the splash screen comes, release the power button and continue holding the volume up and home buttons till it boots into recovery.
Once it's in recovery mode, you can use the volume down button to scroll to the 'Wipe Data/ Factory Data Reset' and then hit the power button to select the option.

Okay. Does it boot into Download Mode?
To enter into download mode, power down the phone. Similar to the recovery boot process. Just that instead of the volume up button, you need to hold the volume down button.
If it does boot into download mode. Does it stay on or give you the same problem?

Maybe you can try installing the firmware through Odin. It may fix things. Else it could be an eMMC failure.
It could be a battery problem. I had kinda the same issues (random reboots that became more and more frequent and at some point the phone barely booted). So i ordered a new battery and problem is solved, phone is up and running again. If you can, try another battery just to be sure that this is your case. Also, the worst scenario is that some people reported random reboots when emmc memory failed. I hope this is not your case
