I have been a flashaholic since many years and having been the owner of several flagship devices, I finally came to moto G4 plus, which totally impressed me with the call quality and sound. Its bang on clarity and loudness totally got me.
As a flashaholic, I rooted my device and tested a custom ROM of Lineage OS. The device became snappier than before and all, but when it came to the audio and sound, it totally screwed up. The in-call volume was not as loud as the stock, nor was the loudspeaker loud enough. I also tried editing the mixer path XML, testing with a custom kernel, got no help at all. Then, I thought probably, it was a bug in the ROM and I then proceeded to flash another ROMs, but found the same thing in all the custom ROMs. Finally, fed up, came back to stock and am totally glad to hear back the clarity and the loudness.
Does anybody know of a custom ROM which can compete with the same clarity and loudness as the stock?

Try Invictaos call Quality & Loudness same as stock.
@Shonilchi As mentioned by @shivam kapoor do try out InvictaOS, it's the best. Also you can test my ROM on your device if you wish (In this way I'll be sure that it works on all the models now). It is based on stock but is more performance and battery friendly.

though not the same issue as yours- but my problem is whenever I flash "any" custom ROM (LOS, INVICTA, pure Nexus, RR) my device's (XT1643) mac ID changes---hence came back to stock
Invicta comes with ex kernel. Download ex kernel manager and adjust volume
In my experience, everything based on Lineage/CM will disappoint at some point or another.

That's true. Faced issues like camera pic quality, wifi not connecting, reboots. There is always a chance that it may malfunction at some/any point of use.
Nevertheless, the efforts of maintainers are commendable.
Yes, I don't deny that. It's just that they are forced to deal with unknown quantities. And sooner than later something will be wrong.

Thanks buddy. I have installed this ROM now and looks like my operating system is a lot more faster. I actually tried out the invicta ROM, but the WiFi tethering was not working in there, which was a deal breaker for me. I have one question on your debloated operating system though. When the next Android update is released for the Moto G4 Plus, can I do it on the air or will you be releasing the deoxed version for that as well which I might need to flash again? In which case should I be rooted on this current debloated ROM?

I have been using Invicta since 3/31 and have no issues at all with WIFI tethering nor volume and sound quality. But my device is an XT1625 non-plus version. That said, I have learned over my 4 years of rooting/custom ROM flashing that each person has a unique set of apps and setup. and usually problems are blamed on ROMs that have absolutely nothing to do with said ROM.
Not saying that is the case with your situation but more often than not it is so.

When new version comes out, i will create the similar version for it too. Don't install the direct OTA, that's why I had mentioned in the OP to remove the '3c_ota' systemlessly. :good:
I always return to stock rom.

Well stock GB run almost perfect till one day, than there came FCs on apps etc
When your purchased your SGS2 you were entitled to the stock Samsung ROM that came with it, plus any updates Samsung put out for your carrier and region, that's it, nothing more. It was nice that Samsung decided to push out ICS for this phone model, but they were under no obligation to do so, they could have easily said sorry if you want ICS buy a new phone, but they didn't. To take this one step further, none of the custom ROM devs owe you anything, the fact that they work hard in their spare time to make ROMs, buggy or not is totally up to them, if the ROM has bugs, switch to another, if you can't find one you like, develop your own, don't come here and complain about it.
Well to be honest it's not GSII's fault but Androids.
Some simple facts people/Droid fans try to ignore hardly,
Q- Which OS freezes the most in a month/year/mostly?
A- Android.
Q- Which OS'es applications FC'es the most?
A- Android.
Q- Which OS taught you to ignore battery life?
A- Android.
Q- Which OS will run on it's own mood?
A- Android.
Q- On which OS you won't be able to depend on?
A- Android.
Period.
So enough of Android experience for me. I use phone for serious purposes, not for show off or anything.
Can't say I've had the same experience as you running any ROMs. Try CheckROM v6.

-Battery issue, is not issue, using stock rom+root only =Iphone use
The point here is that android can customize it, and make it more juicy than the other OC's out there is.
FC is only due to the customization you do. Confirming again, stock rom is smooth as butter, but without tweak that might cause the FC.
That is all about android, and sgs2 specifically (due to 2cores), you have to make it your own, with tweak, undervolting, launchers, apps, lockscreens replacement, I/O sheduler, and so on, but this ofcource cause the FC, since the OC is not perfect, and after you installed rom, waranty is gone.
Dude, it is simple, it depends how you see it, you can leave it 'plain' and be happy, but you can try to make it amazing
Right now using checkrom v6+NEAK kernel+Magic config+Supercharge v6 RC 8.
To say the true it is amazing, i have tried 7 different ICS rom, for me speciffically they are awful, i can't stand to hurt my beauty.
Just try to do absolutely wipe of your system, external and internal sd_cards + instal plain stock rom and sthan installing rom you wish, that's all about it.
May be your phone (or better, your system partition)?
Just a few points:
1. On GB (also Android) with Hyperdroid - no bug, smooth and fast, battery 2 days easly (not very high usage: a few calls, some bluetooth, sync evry hour on 2 email accounts, screen On time 2 hours).
2. On CM9 with Siyah 3.0.1
- no one FC
- no SODs
- everything I installed works
- camera ok - pictures and movies
- same usage as per 1 - I charge the phone every 2nd day.
3. May I ask how is the battery on Xperia?
4. If you thuoght you will get a small laptop and also make calls, I can see why you are so upset.
As you said, just my impressions.
Only people that flash somthing they dont understand and complain afterwards here.
If you want a stable experience, stay on stock. If you go into Flashland, you cant expect mommy to hold your hand...
This thread is simply people raging about something that is, in the end, their own fault.
If you want good custom ROMS go for those that are not in a beta state like ICS ones... E.g. HyperDroid.
@ thracemerin
I dont want to jugde anyone, i know ure right! No one is paying to people who develop roms here and they share them for free! That is good obviously! and i believe they will make perfect roms one day!
1. im dissapointed on Android who ever make it
2. id like to knwo if there is a rom that is better than stock

Do a full wipe. Format system data cache, dalvik. Go to odin and flash the frankenstein xwla4 and then tell me there are no good roms for S2.
And stop using custom kernels, not only are they buggy they drain more battery and do not function properly!!
If you ant GB go for kk5 , la2 or la4.
If you prefer ICS go for frankenstein xwlp8.
All of them are really great roms, working without any problems.
@ rdubyah
i live in countryside and that phone was expensive! thats all!
I used stock 2.3.5 for about 4 months and had a grand total of 2 FCs. Remember, there are tons of buggy apps that can wreak havoc to your phone. Also, If you get frequent freezes/reboots, it could point to a hardware issue.
@trveller72
my x8 lasts for 24h on normal use.. gaming, few calls, more than few emails, 1h gaming, listening to music 2h
so u say u have used checkrom v6, stock theme with jkay settings, its almost complete man.....!
for that matter, nothing is perfect in this world, android is the last thing we should think of being perfect in that list.
i agree with u, the days of nokia 3310, 1100, samsung R220, was so much comfortable for most of us, no software issue, nothing to update regularly, just use the way it comes out of the box till it dies, i really, really miss those days...
more than using the phone nowadays, we think about updating it, making it bugfree and testing it all through the day, costed us the peace of life!!
believe me, i would buy a new out of the box nokia1100 if i get it and will throw away the so called smartphone which has no respect to my personal life/time.
so now relax and play Temple Run game on ur android, its fairly new to droid and update if your phone freezes/gets hot/reboots
Hey everyone,
I didn't want to be disrespectful and post in a developers thread specific to a custom firmware, nor CM, so I wanted to start this thread to get some input. There are a lot of great roms out, ARHD among others, which are modifications of the default stock Samsung firmware.
There is also the possibility to run the latest version of Android in stock AOSP by using Cyanogenmod 10.1.
Historically I have always used CM10.1 or AOKP on my devices as I switch frequently, and they have become the "brands" I know, and I like how it is not bloated. However, on buying my Note I thought it might be worth checking out stock based firmwares, especially for the IR blaster which doesn't work in CM10.1.
Has anyone here alternated between them? What made you switch to one or the other? I'm curious to get some input from others on why they made the decision they did specifically for this device.
Thanks!
EDIT: It seems most of the note features work fine in CM10.1 as well - are there any other things I am missing out on if I go CM10.1, other than the IR Blaster? I'm sure it is just a novelty that will get old quick, but still. Given I haven't used stock extensively I am not sure if I am missing out on anything else.
There are plenty of threads like this around.. I prefer stock because of the IR blast and mulit window feature.. also stock is louder with the noozxoide mod.. The reasons for CM10 is More customization, its faster than stock, Themes, and its 4.2...
Thanks - if you have links to the others I would like to give them a read, but I couldn't find any direct comparisons on XDA, especially for this tablet. The most I found was a "what firmware do you use" for the SGS2.
Im not about to look for them but here is 1...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226379
Im not sure if cyanogenmod support the small apps ( dual or cascade ) . Im using custom stock fimware on my sgn10.1 such as Android Revolution HD, to fully use the advantage of multitasking.
But for my old handphone, I prefer cyanogenmod. You know why.
I would stick with stock. I think the cm team does agreat job but when it comes to my note 10.1 they lack ,there is something very buggy about them when it comes to 2d and 3d rendering this is the one thing I have noticed that are not based off stock roms. Things like sketch book video playback and gaming seem to fluctuate in fps but try it out and see for your self, other then that cm is a great

Stock ROM (CMC5), only rooted, not even DeOdexed (I'd rather have speed vs. themeing).
same, rooted stock for me. CM10 is nice, but the lack of multi window is the killer for me. For me, modified roms dont have anything special to make me want to switch to them.

This is what makes the Note 10.1 so special... Even the ICS rom it came with out of the box was close to what I wanted and needed. People only started complaining when others were getting JB and they weren't.
Add root access Samsung and it would be (almost) perfect - there's always something you want or need that won't be in the stock rom.
So saying, I'm still gonna play around with custom roms too... Never being satisfied and chasing perfection is part of being human, that's why XDA was created....
Stock is the best... !

I am quite pleased with it once I ran the compatibility pack and battery mod (%). It runs quite well and I have no complaints, other than a rather bulky notification pull-up bar. Performance is pretty good. As another poster indicated, though, there is a slight delay when switching between apps using the pop-up menu. Battery life seems a bit better after a few days usage too.

I own many different tabblets, on this one its perfect out of the box, no wifi, no sod, no market or any other weird problems. when you do get one that runs fine then your battery drains fast. Always a trade off, so I go with stock and no root. Seems root is causing problems and now no root and no problems.

You could do a poll to see the usage of both (stock or CM) in numbers

I used CM on all of my other devices but have had no reason to use it on the Note 10.1. I just rooted the stock ROM and have not really missed CM much on the Note.
well, i'd rather use the stock rom than the CM, i have tried the CM10.1 but you know, the Multi Windows and hand writing and the IR blaster had been missed, so, after all, i have to go back to stock rom, ít' simply, a bit slower but, well, it come with full features

I don't own the phone myself, but IMO: definitely
You may lose some features, but you can re-add them using custom apps (like ButtonLED for example). Also, you have a de-bloated system, more features, better performance and way better customization abilities.
Also, please use the Q&A section next time you ask a question

IT boils down to 2 things for me. The Quick Remote and the camera. 2 features AOSP/CM cannot weild. I am back to stock (Malladus) for those two very things. Once KitKat comes out, the IR piece will be solved but the camera software will not. I love Roms like Beanstalk and OSE where slim pie is built in, super handy. In terms of utility those roms dominate. OSE also has multi window support, its pretty nice. Hope this helps.
I decided to stick with Stock-ROM which i modified myself.
Of course I tried several ROMs, like BeanStalk, Rayglobe, Heatshiver and a few more.
Somehow I had problems with all Stock-based ROMs. Camera didnt function really well on Heatshiver, Stock-Browser on Rayglobe didnt work for me.
On another Stock-based ROM (dont remember which atm) the LG keyboard didnt work - with a fix in the comments, which led me to a bootloop.
Why i went back to stock:
I do the mistakes, which means I can hit myself if I dont do something properly.
Camera actually works.
Battery life. With same CPU-settings (TricksterMOD) I roughly had 30% less power consumption with Stock compared to Beanstalk (CM 10.2 10/28)
Approximate Sensor. With BeanStalk, my G2 woke up in my pocket - didnt happen with Stock. Tho, I dont know if it's fixed now.

have patience, the quickest way to messing up phone is flashing to early in the game, the stock ui is not that bad, occasional lag in ui with fully functioning camera, bluetooth, & wifi etc. beats any custom rom at the moment, wait a month or so and see what kitkat is all about, just root your phone and use flashify to put on a recovery, and you will be able still have plenty of custom toys without blowing out your rom or sacrficing the things that led you to choose the LG-G2 in the first place.

They do not answer an endless amount of questions asked by lazy forum members. Read about them and try them out. Good luck again.
It's been eating at me since ROMs started coming out for KitKat whether I should upgrade to it or not. I'm quite happy with my 4.3 Custom Roms and CM11 Roms. The only thing I dont like about the CM11 is the bad sound and the obvious lack of note 3 specific features such as one handed mode and S-Pen and S-Note.
I can't get it out of my head and I would like to hear some feedback for people who already upgraded to Samsung's KitKat.
What are the main issues with most roms right now? Any regrets being in the new bootloader? Worth it?
Should I be a bit more patient and give DEVS more time to master 4.4?
For those that don't know when you upgrade to the new bootloader to try and install KitKat roms you cannot revert to the previous one so hence cannot flash 4.3 roms or AOSP roms.
(AFAIK only the Mexican Note 3 or Canadian I think have a way to go back or install 4.3 roms after going to the new bootleader)

Worth it?

I don't know what others are experiencing at the moment - but I recently flashed Kit Kat and the only problem I seem to be having is that the WIFI will periodically disconnect for 5 second intervals about 10 times an hour. Other than that nothing else is a problem
I do really enjoy the new galaxy s voice. But mind you - I havent installed a custom rom yet
satisfied with kitkat.. no regret

i heard it brakes compatibility with call recording software.
4.3 is stable enough for my liking.
BUMP
Call recording doesn't work and the camera is worse, I have flickering lines on my camera which I never had. But the phone is super fast and the battery is a great improvement. I wouldn't say you need to be on kit Kat if you are happy on 4.3....but the Poland firmware is obviously a test firmware.... So when all regions get it... Should be much better.

Have you tried listening to the recording? It will be just noise

love the kitkat update but just upset i cant try the latest cm till they fix the bootloader issue
On aosp kitkat I'm running acid audio engine with great results!
I actually love the battery life on Kitkat... I have removed both Note 3's, sporting JB and Kitkat from power at the same time. I've been using the Kitkat phone all day making calls, sms'ing and other various things not to mention the auto updates...
Both phones have the same setup and syncing but the Kitkat phone which is being used has more power than JB phone which has sat on my bed all day long doing what it wants and not being used. It's down to 78% over about 11 hours. The Kiktkat one is at 86% ad has been used all day.
That's brilliant as far as I'm concerned...

Thats interesting, you never had flickering before you updated?
Mines been off for repair and is due back today. I dont know what they've done yet but I'd be surprised if software was the problem.

Apparently the Balitic now has 4.4.2 firmware, according to Sammobile... Its the same build though...
Well I would say the only regret is missing the ability to flash 4.3 ROMs and CM. Otherwise seems smoother and faster. So if you do like the TW features I would suggest upgrading.
Been upgraded for a couple of days know, busting my head around how to revert back to CM but I realized putting CM is not very productive when you think about it. The 4.4 stock ROM is damn fast so the only difference I'm seeing is in RAM Usage (stock ROM using much more ram naturally), but does it really matter on a device with 3GBs of Ram? I've never once been close to hitting that mark.. You do get all the S Pen features and stuff that probably made you buy the device in the first place.
So basically:
TW pluses
no bugs
S Pen and other features
CM pluses
no bloat
more customization options and annoyances fixed that should've been there in the first place.

Who's service do you use and which modem or radio do you have loaded. I have wind in Vancouver which does not use LTE but wonder if a different radio will allow me to use LTE from another carrier ie. say Rogers if I am out of coverage area of Wind. I notice with the stock Samsung software and Wind in Vancouver if I loose signal it sometimes does not automatically log back in even though I am within coverage area. My only complaint so far.

I have a G900W8. I was fed up of the Samsung bloatware, so I installed the CM11 klte nightlies. It was great but the camera is consistently terrible, and my notification sounds didn't work. CM11 nightlies are obviously not in a release state.
Is there another ROM with a great camera (like stock) that has a pure Android interface or something similar? I don't use any of the Samsung apps and I never will. But I need a good camera!
Please advise!

It's not a good solution at all. I use Google Camera and Smart Camera/Better Camera too. If stock camera results are 9/10, Google Camera and Better Camera/Smart Camera results are 4/10. My photos are blurry and have no optical stabilisation. I want a rom with the same camera output as stock or almost as good.
Which Smart Camera are you talking about? Link?
Don't know compatibility but camerafx is always a good one. Alliance ROM is awesome. I have TW version 5.5 with AOSP theme and a nova launcher. KT kernel. Stock camera. Very fast ROM with AOSP look and feel and KT gives amazing battery. 900T

The problem is that CM11 obviously cannot access the camera hardware on the level that stock can. There is some kind of software optical stabilization in stock that is simply not present in CM11. I think it is a ROM problem, not a problem that can be resolved with a different camera app.
Does Alliance fit the criteria I'm looking for? Namely, a camera as good as stock, no Samsung bloatware, and a Aosp/CM feel of pure Android? I hate the TW notification and quickset panel. And I want the Google dialer.

Alliance does have the stock camera and you can opt to have no bloatware during the install. Having said that, it is a TW based rom so it has the TW style notification, quick set panel and dialer etc.
I'm in the same situation as yourself. I want an aosp rom but need a fully functioning camera and Bluetooth. So I've had to stick to TW based rooms for the time being.
Alliance does have themes, one called aosp but it doesn't make it look like stock aosp. It does give a more aosp feel though.

Well everything (including Bluetooth) works extremely well on the latest albinoman CM11 nightly, except for the camera. The camera takes reasonably good photos, but not as spectacular as stock. The only thing missing is the optical stabilization, which is mainly a problem if your hands shake.
So last week I tried going back to TW with Xtresolite and Alliance but I got completely fed up with the TW interface. It is really crap compared to pure Android! Every task takes more time to accomplish. Just the TW dialer drives me crazy. I love the Google dialer with built-in search.
So I went back to CM11, because I can live with "reasonably good" photos.
A friend of mine on the galaxy note 3 just tried a CM12 beta and he said the camera was dramatically better. I don't even understand how they did it, especially as devs don't yet have an official lollipop ROM to grab a cancers framework from...
So maybe albinoman's CM12 will have a better camera.
My hopes are pinned on Samsung coming out with a Google Play Edition, so we can just copy the rom. Maybe I'm hoping in vain...

Still at a loss as to why people buy Samsung when they hate tw so much but anyway I think Alliance does a pretty good impression of stock android....

I use Phoenix ROM ... minus all the bloatware, chooseable by the Aroma installer ...
After that installed 'System app remover' ... removed some more bloatware and apps I never use ...
After that updated everything else via Google Play.
Then installed 'System cleaner ROOT' from Flaki (use the first version, NOT System cleaner 2 !!! It's got a bug in integrating updates, if you do, you have to reflash because it will not boot anymore !!!)
After all this it's stabel, mean, lean and clean ...

Not bad, but I'd like my notifications to look exactly like on pure Android or CM. And I want the Google Dialer.
