Digitizer failure - Elephone S7 Questions & Answers

Hey all. Purchased this phone for my mother early this year and after only 6 weeks usage the digitizer has failed. Have contacted Elephone and response has been less than encouraging.
Repair options are to return phone back to China but postage services refuse to accept while battery remains within phone.
Even better, it would take several weeks to reach China for it to be assessed and repaired and then several weeks for it to arrive.
I'm suggesting purchasing a new screen/digitizer however concerned that it may go the same way if there's an inherent problem with the screen...
Suggestions?

What is the digitiser?
The retailer should refund, and you might have to forget the battery is in the phone when they ask at the post office!?
Returning a faulty, is the risk you take when buying from China. It sucks.

Well this is just it. At $60 US for a new screen and digitizer is it worth the hassle of sending it back to China. Time taken etc or just simply place an order for a new phone. It's actually for my mother's phone who is based is Bali Indonesia so fitting the screen for cheap is also a possibility.

Some retailer might give some money back if you send video of fault offer to repair and send receipt for the new screen.
Worth a try?

Well considering I've had one email response after sending 3 emails over the past 3 weeks I'm not holding my breath. This has been born out of frustration to look for solutions to what should be a straight forward warranty repair.
Thanks for the suggestion though

Purchased direct from elephone. Presale in October then waited til Feb to receive the phone then arranged phone to be delivered to folks in Bali. She turned it on late Feb and died 4 weeks later.
Have posted up in elephone forums. Elephone doesn't appear to be very active within this space... Ive.got a P9000 and I have purchased my father a P8000 and P9000. So not new to the brand and shortcomings regarding after sales support.

LG G2 Replacement

Long story short, dropped the phone and shattered the screen. Digitizer dead so touch screen doesn't work!
Yesterday was the last day I could have put the insurance on it so I cant take it back to Best Buy or anything.
Called LG and they said I have to send it in but i don't wanna imagine how much hey will charge me.
Anybody know if they sell the digitizers separate to buy to replace the screen?
Any help will be appreciated

Yeah I asked but they didn't wanna mention a price at all because they want me to send it in and they wanna see it. But you can clearly see that the LCD isn't broken, just the panel on top.
I might send it in and I know if I choose not to they will send it back.

Same here. I thought they were going to charge an arm and a leg, but $105 isn't bad in my opinion!

Lesson learned. Always put a case. You never know if a case could have reduced or prevented the damage.

oh wow that's really cheap! the cheapest i can find the part on eBay was $140, I rather send it in! thanks guys!
i had a case on mine, but had it off when i dropped it a couple nights ago. same story--phone still works, but the cracks the dropped caused left the screen unresponsive to touch.
i also heard the same thing from LG, but my biggest issue was that i wanted to retrieve data that i had on the phone. they said that they always wipe the data when they do any repairs on it, so i purchased that screen from china and am giving it a go on wednesday.
wish me luck! :fingers-crossed:
So, lol, the same thing happened to me. I wanted to post a pdf of the tear down guide that might help you guys, as I couldn't find it anywhere online.
I was going to order the part online, but after hearing about it being cheaper to send to LG, I might just do that instead!

Yeah, my phone was wiped, but I had nothing important on there. I haven't activated it to see if it is still rooted or not. I can't get past the activation screen without a SIM card.

To be honest it is cheaper then insurance..... I bought the ProtectCell after I broke the first one. and it is $200 or something up front plus $150 every time you break it.... Aka I could fix my phone 3 times before the insurance is a better deal.
Ughhh...same thing happened to me about an hour ago. Would one of you be able to share where you tracked down where to send it in. I'll start digging around for info on this, but thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Can't post a link since I'm new but lg(dot)com/us/support/repair-service/schedule-repair should work for you.
I dropped mine last week and called their 1-800 number to create a Return Authorization, rather than using the web page. Ended up being $146 to repair mine, which is still cheaper than local shops and far less risky than me trying to figure out how to do it solo. They received it Thursday, gave me the quote late Friday, and I called in to make the payment then. Hopefully it's repaired Monday and on it's way back to me by mid-week.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the reply. I think I will give them a ring tomorrow. I had found the LG repair link prior to your reply and, oddly enough, the G2 isn't even listed in the list of selectable products, so figured I'd have to call anyhow.
I'm generally extremely careful with my devices, maybe even anal, so I generally don't buy insurance. However, this is the second phone, after my G-Nexus, which has ended up with a smashed screen due to a freak accident. Starting to rethink my take on insurance......
Thanks again!

the lg g2 isn't listed because of the different model numbers (d800, vs980 etc), so just select the model you have. I'm waiting for my call from them now.

Thanks. I noticed that after the fact. Had been looking for the G2 so overlooked the other options. Ended up using the live chat option which worked very well. Also checked back in with live chat a few times to see where the process was at once I sent it in.
Long story longer, I will have mine back in my greedy little hands tomorrow if Fed-Ex holds up their end of the bargain. Like another poster stated, the repair cost was $146, which includes return shipping, plus my cost to send it to Texas. Took about 2-1/2 weeks total from the day I shipped to getting it back tomorrow. I saw another poster-or-two mentioned that their repair was quoted at $105. Not sure why mine and others were up at $146 since mine seemed like a pretty basic crack and I figured thus, it would be at the lower end of the reported repair chargees.
Looking forward to getting it back. Had already sold my G-Nex so I've been scraping by with my resurrected Palm Pre for the past couple weeks

AT&T Note 3 LCD Repair

I recently (Jan 31) sent my Samsung Note 3 to Samsung (Plano, TX) for an LCD repair and saw some of the bad rap samsung has been given over their repair process and decided to post my own experience with their repairs. I shipped the phone without the back, charger, box, manuals with a prepaid UPS 2 day air label (got it for free from samsung), phone got there around February 4 and samsung started repairs on the 5. I thoguht I would have my phone back in no time, just to be disappointed two days later that my phone did not pass Quality Assurance test, after three failures in total Samsung decided to swap out my motherboard and then it passed the test and was shipped! Overall for a free service it took around 2 weeks total (not business days), this service sadly is not like Apple's exchange your broken device for a refurb. I will try to update my post once I receieve my phone back (I heard some people receiving their phones with more problems than they had to begin with, so fingers crossed ).

O ok. Here is how At&t works, they will cover the device for 1 year from purchase date regardless of who purchased it or where you bought it from. I found this out with a phone I bought on craigslist. I was the 4th owner but it did not matter. At&t shipped me a replacement phone 2nd day shipping and I returned my defected one to them. I don't praise At&t very often but their warranty dept is good in that aspect. Now getting a perfect refurbished replacement is another story, I went through 4 in a week and finally got a perfect one.

That is how Verizon was with me.
AT&T (The service center, not a local store, but it happens to be about 10 minutes from here) tried to reflash my Note 3 (bought from a Big Box store). Failed. "Must be a hardware problem, we'll have to replace your phone." I was out of there in 10 minutes with a replacement (after sitting for about half an hour waiting to be taken, waiting for the flashing - I wasn't the first one in the door that day.) They kept my Zagg screen shield (my error - I should have asked for it back), but otherwise no complaints. New phone, old battery, old S-Pen, old SIM, old SD card. I've been treated a lot worse by other companies. +1 for my local AT&T DSC.
still haven not received my phone back sadly. UPS must be under heavy load or the driver is afraid of snow. Anyone know any apps that would do some testing on phones (test bluetooth, wifi, screen and such)?
Ok got my phone back a couple days ago, everything seems to function well and im very happy with my repaired note 3. If anyone has any questions about the repair or quality of it, ask away and to anyone looking to send their phone in, I would recommend only doing it ONLY IF its your LAST option, as mentioned by the other forum members to use AT&T instead (which hopefully i wont have too).
When I broke the screen on my S4, I smashed the screen on a laptop out of anger.
Rough day and that didn't help.
I hate to see what I'd do if I broke this beautiful display....

AT&T does not do screen replacements. You either go through Samsung, do it yourself or have a repair shop do it in your local area or from online.

Note5 SPEN broke and not in the way you're probably thinking

So I was using my SPEN and I went to turn it and put just alittle flex (very minimal) and then I heard a crack sound I looked down and my SPEN was coming apart and then the top came off and a spring fell out to God knows where... Anyone else have this issue?
And now Samsung is saying I have voided my warranty because it broke. This is crap
Sucks. It is a thin little fragile thing. I'm surprised more don't break. Sorry, man.

You should be able to buy a spare one. I heard people are getting extras off eBay so they can do the whittling down thing to prevent it from getting stuck when you put it in the wrong way.

The point is that it broke under regular use not by misuse it should be covered as warranty. And not be something I have to purchase.

Luckily there isn't really a way for them to know which device is mine since I did not give any personal information. So they can't hold up their argument of my warranty is now void.

you should have a 1-yr manufacturer warranty that usually the eBay seller handles for you, meaning you'd have to send it to them, then they would send it to the manufacturer. i'm selling a N5 duos right now, but confirmed with the original seller (from Taiwan) that should the buyer i'm selling to need any warranty work, they would just need to contact the original seller and provide them the IMEI # of the handset (to confirm it was originally theirs) before sending it to them.

does buying a new pen un-void the warranty? lol
Ugh. Finally my issue. Of course searching for the spring brings up related results. Any search for it breaking in general brings up the endless results of the useless putting it in backwards crap.
Mine litterally fell apart inside the phone. The pen part was stuck inside for a few days. The spring vanished and its $20 for a new pen on ebay.
I was definitely butthurt for a while.

I was definitely butthurt for a while.

Have you glued it together yet? Could you measure the spring of not?

Sorry I went to the store and they replaced it for me no questions (t-mobile) and the Samsung store in Best Buy was willing to as well but they were out at the moment. I would try going to best buy and talking to them. You could try to use a proportion algorithm to figure out how large the spring is. Glueing it did not work by the way, but I just tried super glue as I didn't have any epoxy.

Sprint policy on the recall of the Note 7

Sprint just told me i can either take it into the store right now and get a loaner phone till the new one comes in OR i can keep it till the new one comes in late next week they claim. So screw the loaner phone ill take the screen protector off and have fun with it for 10 days or so till the new one comes in.
Seems like a good thing from sprint to give either a loaner phone or let you exchange it in store no matter where you bought it.
Are they recalling ALL of the note 7s?
Dave
Fairly sure it has to be working. If you break it and it stops working they will not honor it, almost certainly. Enjoy it but be safe with it.

All I know is I just ripped the film screen protector off this one and no longer care about scratches. I bought the phone outright from Best buy so I might wait a little while and buy one of the newer models off eBay for a few hundred cheaper and get a full refund for this "defective" device.

I would love to just give this thing back. Between no longer having data/voice at the same time, problems w/ streaming audio on my 2013 kia I'm ready to go back to my note 3 w/ a note 5 ROM.
Dave
I wonder if they're gonna give me sh*t for purchasing two via Best Buy instead of them....
This phone has been great and I even hate to turn it in.
I guess I can start running caseless now too
I too will wait until next week.
It's not a mandatory recall, it's voluntary. However, I don't see why you wouldn't exchange it.

Did you contact Sprint or Best Buy? Everywhere I read it said the return policy is irrelevant in this case since it's a recall.

Bestbuy, they told me that i would have to go through samsung if it was past 14 days. Mine is still less than a week . Hopefully they get the replacements in before my 14 days are up.

Heck today was the 14th day for me. That doesn't make sense, what difference does it make? How would you go about getting the replacement from Samsung? I wonder if you have to return the phone to the place of purchase or can you take it to Sprint?

No 14 day thing i was told. The guy at sprint store told me it does not matter when i bought it or how long till it takes them to get them in. The 14 day restocking fee etc are all waived. And as said ill have fun with the phone but not abuse it just not worry about a tiny scratch.
And i bought mine on the website and the sotre will still take it back. If you dial *2 it will tell you all the ways to return it.

Noise is already being made by some that have bought from Best Buy. You have to deal with Best Buy from what I hear.

I agree, if you bring in a busted phone you may be stuck.
Better safe than sorry especially if you are a power user. I am trading mines in for s7 edge tomorrow.
I went into BestBuy after dinner and got my exchange done with no issue. Knowing Sprints policy, the day you get a phone counts as day 1. So I had to return it today(Friday) even though Saturday is technically 14 days.
They were cool about it and said how they stopped selling them etc. They asked why I wanted to return it and I explained the lag and battery drain, plus the whole recall thing. They put the upgrade back on my line (I have a legacy pan with 2yr upgrades) and did the return. Got a full refund with no restocking fee and I got to keep the Gear Fit 2. Pretty cool of them.
Now I'm just gonna see what's on the horizon next.

I just got back from Sprint with my new S7 edge. I see why they look similar. They claimed the new supply of note 7 will be in on Monday but doubt it.

Yeah that's way too fast. The recall was announced on Friday and they will get replacements on Monday which is a holiday?
I call BS. It might be old stock.
A good question is how can we tell that when we get a replacement, it's one with battery issues fixed?

Battery Woes And Google Support.

So like many others I began experiencing the issue of Phone Shutdown when the battery dropped below 40% So called Google support, and even though my warranty expired December 2016, they are shipping me a free replacement.
Go Google!
Third replacement for this issue is on the way. There is a note on my account for a full refund if this one doesn't work.

Replacement what? Phone? Batteries? Every time I have called them, they have just processed a replacement and it has shipped the same or next day. To be honest, I'm kinda hoping this replacement (which I received yesterday) doesn't work at this point. Would rather get my money back and get a new phone.

Got an email yesterday, replacement is on it's way.
Mine was out of warranty too, and I appreciate that they sent me a refurbished phone - but they sent me one in even worse shape than the one I have! Did they not test it before they sent it out? It shuts down at 35%, whereas my bad phone shut off at a mere 15%.
Refurbished means replaced battery - right?
I am awaiting the second replacement, but my confidence is falling.
I'm scared at this point to get a Pixel XL, as I hear they are prone to this issue as well. What gives?

The replacement they sent me, albeit generously because my phone was out of warranty, was in worse shape than the one I am trying to replace. My old phone shuts down at 15%. The "replacement" shuts down at 35%. And bootlooped on me.
Doesn't sound like refurbished to me, but rather recycled, from one unhappy customer to another.
Hopefully replacement #2 will work out, but my confidence is shaken in this phone, which I loved while it worked.
I bought the Nexus 6P from an independent store, not from Google. Anyone knows if Google send replacement if the phone is not bought at Google Store?

I went through 3 phones to get a good replacement.
1. First replacement had a screen issue.
2. Second had a battery issue
3. The third one and the one I have now was okay.

I bought it from Amazon (since I bought it on july 2016, they're done with me. LOL).
thank you
I bought mine on Craigslist, did an online chat with Google, told them it was purchased through play store (which the seller did do). It was about 2-3 months out of warranty, and they sent me a replacement within 3 days.
Fun side-note: my original was a 32GB model. Replacement was 64gb model.

Oh I did get it. Lucky for me they were out of the Silver and I got a black one instead.
Is there a particular link for the live chat or just do it through the store live chat where the phone was bought from?
