Hi all,
Hope I might be able to get some advice. Excuse me up front if I butcher the jargon and/or description of the issue, I am but a simple (very, some might say) mobile phone user. I know nothing of the mystical world of 'rooting', and other Andriody black art.
So, here goes.
My wife owns a Samsung Galaxy S5 which hasn't been modified (except for the installation of a few extra apps) since the day it left the Vodafone shop. Today, for no apparent/obvious reason, the following is happening:
Switch phone on, boots into home screen when "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped” message is displayed. Click 'OK', messages disappears for approx 2 seconds and then comes back. Too short a time to do anything else with the phone.
After around a minute, the phone then reboots itself.
Once rebooted -> home screen -> "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped” -> repeat.
The only thing I could see happening, in between pressing the 'OK' button dozens of times, was some automatic App updates (Facebook Messenger and Facebook Pages Manager, were the two I saw).
The back of the phone is also getting pretty damned hot - related?
I've read a few 'Help me' pages online and managed to get the phone into Safe Mode thinking I could at least have a little look around while it was stabile. Wrong. The message and endless reboot cycles still occurred.
I'm loathed to do a full reset as I can't extract the photos from the phone - the phone won't stay 'up' long enough for me to copy them onto my laptop. The phone connects and is recognised but when it reboots itself Windows Explorer cracks it.
I know a lot people say "I didn't do anything", the only thing I've done to the phone prior to this issue was to remove the rear cover and re-seat the SD card (Sandisk Ultra 32Gb, if that's any use).
I really appreciate the time you hopefully take to read this and (hopefully) help out an old boy like me. Thanks heaps in advance.

sorry to hear about your luck mate, but im sure we can figure a way around this issue. The first thing id try is wiping the cache and dalvik cache. that can be done by turning the phone completely off (in your case, probably just pull the battery and put it back after a few seconds), then hold volume +, the home button and power. the phone should vibrate and when it does, continue holding the first two, but release the power button. then itll boot into factory recovery. You use the volume buttons to navigate the menu, and power to select. Go to wipe cache, confirm wipe and reboot
Hi, thanks for the reply. I've just followed your suggested action but unfortunately the phone is still doing exactly the same thing.

np. ok, so you should be able to connect the phone to your computer in recovery and mount it so you can get the pictures off. After youve grabbed everything you need from the phone, then nuke it with Odin and the correct tar.md5 file and see what s what at that point
I agree. You might as well root it at that point.

Assume you mean the 'mount/system' option from the system menu (hold volume +, the home button and power)? If so, I select this option and it doesn't appear to do anything. It seems to accept the entry by confirming the action at the bottom of the screen. So, I select 'boot' (top option), the phone starts as usual and then begins the cycle of - error message -> reboot, etc, etc after approx 15-20 seconds.
Is there no way to access the internal physical memory of the phone (even by force) to access the data stored there? Thanks again.

I am a bit of a newbie...
My device was working perfectly. THen I started up AIM this morning and it froze. I reset it, but now when it powers up, it is frozen, nothing works or happens. If I call the device the phone doesn't even ring. NO clue how to fix it and any info would be much appreciated.
Thats very strange. Try pulling out the battery and let it sit for about a minute or 2. If that doesnt work, then try to return it for a new one. If you somehow get into the start menu, go to settings and then the system tab. Click on "Clear Storage" witch will reset the device back to the way it was when you first took it out of the box. Yes, you will loose all info stored in the PDA but its better than not being able to use it at all. But this does tend to fix 80% of problems.
I had a similar problem today... I installed netframework and after that it stop responding.... the only working thing is the power button and when I press it the only thing I can do with the stylus is select yes or not... other then that wherever I type it does nothing!!! have you solve it?

Hello to all,
I have the HTC Ozone from verizon... Recently I flashed the custom Windows Mobile 6.5 Rom onto the device and attempted to install my screen reader without much success. (yes... I have no vision.)
Now, the device boots up, but is frozen at the windows mobile splash screen. I can't seem to find a way to reset the device without it loading Windows mobile completely. When I plug it into my laptop, USB is not recognized.
Does anyone know a key combination I could use to reset the Ozone (at boot)? I used to have a Q but Enter with the end key does not work anymore - and the user manuals only talk of using the "clear storage" option in system tools.
Any help is appreciated.
With all due respect-
Tomi
did u hardSPL ur device?
u gotta start there..sounds like you didnt tho. Theres another member whos in ur shoes at the moment, who himself didnt read the instructions.
yeah... I knew of hard spl, and it ran to 100%. But I guess it didn't install. in the end I had to go to verizon and they replaced the phone - however I will not be flashing another cooked rom until we get a signed stock ozone vzw rom.. Or generic.
I was told on another thread here that holding down the volume down key + send +end will put the device in reset mode, and that's true. However even that didn't help, my rom was prob gone.
-Tomi
You can do a Clear Storage from bootloader by turning off the device. While holding volume DOWN key and SEND key, power on the device. Follow the prompts.
If that doesn't do it, it's bricked.
hmm. there used to be a forum topic filled with stock roms (they still required hard spl) but I can't find it... Is it still up? the files were on mediafire.
Bricked by password utility
Maybe this deserves it's own thread but I may have found a way to brick an HTC Ozone by setting and removing the password.
I got the phone 4 days ago and after messing around with the installed applications and finding some of them lacking I looked at alternatives. First I installed a version of Keypass for WinMo6.1 smartphones (the beta version since the older version doesn't support smart phones) and the basic functionality seems to work fine. Then I then I tried to install Opera Mini but there appears to be no JVM on this phone so the install file was not recognized by Windows. Then I tried UCWEB and ended up uninstalling it after a few frustrating moments trying to get it to open any page other than the UCWEB home page. So I removed UCWEB and installed Skyfire. Unfortunately I didn't install the latest version and foolishly clicked on the update button when Skyfire started up. The update feature appears to be broken and it leaves you with a Skyfire that won't run and won't uninstall. After a few hours searching for solutions and trying various options I gave up and did a hard reset from the OS. This appeared to work fine and since it was late I went to bed. I should mention that all of the 3rd party apps were installed to a 2GB micro SD card and that I took the card and SIM out when I did the hard reset.
The next day when I powered up the phone I got a screen with colored bars, which I remember reading was a boot loader screen. The phone had appeared to reset properly the night before but I didn't do more than scroll through the home screen before powering it off with the end button. From the boot loader screen I had to pull the battery to shut down but when I powered it up again things seemed fine. I installed the Google maps application (highly recommended), downloaded and installed latest version of Skyfire and installed the Google search application and everything seemed to be fine. I decided that I should try out the password lock feature and set an eight character alphanumeric password with two special characters and two capital letters. I used it for the rest of the day to surf the web, send some texts and plot driving paths with Google maps. I found the password lock a bit annoying but never had a problem unlocking after the device went into standby or after I shut it down. That night I downloaded a couple of largish (150 MB or so) MP3 audiobooks from netlibrary.com but couldn't play them with the included Windows Media Player. Despite having MP3 extensions WMP wouldn't open them and clicking WMP from the start menu appeared to do nothing. Then I tried to re install Keypass and got an insufficient memory message. I deleted some photos and a short video I'd taken with the phone software and did a soft reset (power cycle) but no joy. Unable to play my MP3 files or install keypass and getting the occasional memory warning I decided a hard reset was in order but waited until the next day.
The next morning, after the phone had charged all night, I decided to remove the annoying password lock and then shut down and restarted the phone in order to verify that the problems I'd had the previous day still existed. I navigated to the Security settings and unchecked the box about password protection then powered off the phone. When it came on again it asked for a password. Annoyed, I hit the soft key under the "UNLOCK" notification and keyed in the password I thought I had just disabled and got a screen that said "Alert The password you typed is incorrect." I'd seen this a few times before since my thumbs are not optimally sized for the keyboard so I entered the password a few more times taking care to get it exactly right. It seems that my password has been removed but the requirement to enter a password has not. I tried a blank password but it won't take one it just reiterates the UNLOCK prompt. I have the password written down, it's also a variation of one I've used a lot in the past, and I'd used it successfully dozens of times the previous day so the likelihood of my having "forgotten" it is pretty low. I called Verizon and after they suggested entering a blank password I tried again and reported the failure. Their only suggestion was a visit to a Verizon store to "re flash" the phone which I assume means reload the ROM image.
I found the hard reset suggestion below and tried it. I assume the DOWN key is the bottom D-Pad key and the SEND key is the green bracket key with the microphone icon to the left of the D-Pad. I tried holding the DOWN and SEND keys and hitting the power key until the HTC logo came up and the phone buzzed briefly and I tried holding the keys down until the phone booted to the UNLOCK screen but nothing changed the boot sequence. So I guess my phone is bricked and I'm on my way to the Verizon store shortly to see what they can do. I also noticed that the phone occasionally emits beeps for no apparent reason at random times while entering the unlock password. Also, there is an Alert message behind the UNLOCK icon that says "Alert There is not enough free space to download message. Please free up some space". I wonder if in my efforts to download a few hundred megabytes of MP3 files (audio books) I managed to clog the memory and that I can't unlock the phone because there is a memory logjam of some sort. While downloading the MP3 files I did have to kill Internet Explorer from the task manager a couple of times as it seemed like the download had hung and I couldn't find the downloaded file anywhere on the storage card or in system memory. I haven't installed anything to system memory and with a 2GB card I don't think I've come anywhere close to filling it up. I had about 500 MB in files on the SD card at one point but I deleted the extra install files and some other stuff I'd downloaded. When I put the SD card in a USB reader hooked to the PC I see 378 MB of files with 1.46 GB of free space.
I'm pretty convinced that the OS is buggy (it is Windows after all) and that I need to avoid the password utility and downloading large files until I figure out what the safe combinations of activities are.
Assuming they can resurrect the phone or give me a new one I'll try to set and clear my password at the store and see if that reproduces the problem.
Meanwhile I'd be interested in any sort of hardware based hard reset procedure that works with the Ozone since holding the green SEND button and Down D-Pad key while powering up does not work in this situation. Perhaps the fact that I can't power down and I have to remove the battery to shut the thing off is a problem but I would expect a hardware reset to work no matter what the state of the software is, even if the memory system were full of garbage. I guess designers have gotten away from dedicated reset buttons but software based hard reset mechanisms seem doomed to failure of the sort I am experiencing.
I'll report back my experience at the Verizon store when I get back. I suspect they won't be able to do much other than give me a new phone since I can't get the Active Sync software to even talk to the phone in this state. Maybe they have a lower level software tool to unbrick me; we'll see.

Wow.
Sorry, I got bored halfway through your discertation. However, I did note a mistake that you made.
Hard Reset: A guide for long-winded users.
Step 1: Power down the phone. If your phone is already powered down, you may skip this step. Note: Removing the battery, while technically powering down the phone, is not the correct method to make the following steps work.
Step 2: With your left hand, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button that is located on the side of the phone. Continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN button and press the SEND button. With both the VOLUME DOWN and SEND button pressed, use your right hand to press the POWER button.
Step 3: A gray screen will appear asking you three options. Pressing the VOLUME UP button on the side of the phone will be the correct option to hard-reset your phone to ROM default.
Step 4: Press SEND to verify choice.
Step 5: Cuss loudly because you forgot to back up contacts, calendar, and email. (Optional: Crying like a little girl always makes things better.)
There you have it, a true hard-reset.
NOTE: The D-PAD is not Volume Control. Utilization of the D-Pad in this operation will result is user failure.
HTC Hard Reset from password lockout solved
I had managed to lock myself out of my phone by setting a password and then unchecking the password required box under the security settings and power cycling the phone when I got low memory alerts (see previous post).
I was able to hard reset my phone by removing then replacing the battery to power the phone down then holding the VOLUME DOWN button and SEND keys at the same time while pressing the power button to bring up a menu that allowed a hard reset. You can follow the menu prompts from there. If you power the phone down normally this still works but if you are locked out with a password you can't power down normally.
My lessons learned are:
1. To hard reset a password locked HTC Ozone hold VOLUME DOWN and SEND while powering up.
2. If you get a clueless Verizon rep call back later as they do have some helpful people in tech support
3. I've yet to find anyone helpful at any of the nearby stores so that avenue was a waste of time and gas.
I've written up a more detailed account of my saga that has some other useful phone numbers and resources should anyone have special problems with their HTC Ozone phones.
When I first had the password lockout I called Verizon and after after some basic efforts to trouble shoot they said go to the Verizon store for a re flash. At the Verizon store (Waldorf, MD) they said, after 15 minutes or so of waiting, that they couldn't do anything for me. Back home I called Verizon again (866-406-5154) and got someone who was much more helpful but still unable to fix things. It seems these phones are new enough that the Verizon techs don't know the tricks yet. They did provide a number (800-229-1235) for Personal Communications (http://www.pcdphones.com/formerly UT Star Com) but that number is only staffed from 8AM to 5:30PM M-F (not sure which time zone). However the voice message mentioned a hotline number (866-806-9990) which I called. This referred me back to the 800-229-1235 number for "unlock code" issues but I stayed on the line anyway and got someone who tried to help me out. At some point they mentioned holding the DOWN VOLUME button and SEND button while powering up the phone. They thought this would clear the memory but not the password setting. I tried it anyway and it worked.
While pressing both the Volume Down button and SEND button you need to hold the Power/END button in for a second or so until you see the following menu screen (the misspelled "resotre" is exactly how the menu appears):
Wiping user data/settings &
any user installed applications...
1. Press VolUp to restore
manufacturer default.
2. Press VolDown to resotre
custom configuration.
3. Press other keys to
cancel.
At this point pressing the VolUp button gets you a screen that says:
Are you sure
you want to wipe your phone?
Press Send Key to confirm,
and any other key to cancel.
Pressing the Send Key results in:
Restoring . . .
Wait for completedwhere the second line is in red
After less than a minute you should see:
Restore completed
Press Volume Down to restart
Pressing Volume Down restarts the phone.
First you see the HTC boot screen for about 40 seconds followed by the Verizon splash animation. Then the green Windows Mobile Version 6.1 boot screen comes up about for 90 seconds while the back light flashes on and off a few times. Finally, if you have a SIM card installed, a Change Mode window appears with the following message and OK above the left soft key:
SIM card detected. Your device will now
switch to Global mode.
Pressing the left soft key brings up a Press SEND to activate your phone where SEND is actually an icon of the SEND button. Pressing SEND dials *228 and displays a GEAR icon and the text Programming in progress... . . ." while voice propmpts tell you "To program your phone press 1 . . . "
Pressing "1" plays some badly encoded music along with the text "Connected:" followed by a timer and "SPL unlocked" in red below it.
After a minute or so the screen displays "Programming was successful. Please Wait. Your phone is being reset."
Then, the phone restarts and comes up at the normal home screen displaying the time and date. From here you can restore or set up your applications and data.
So if you back up your data you can even recover from a lost password or a "friend" that locks your phone. I suspect there may be a way to unlock the password without wiping the phone by getting an unlock code keyed to the phone's serial number of DEC number (found under the battery). I didn't need this service as I just got the phone and hadn't put any data on it. If you back up the data and applications with Active Sync you should be safe but I haven't played with active sync much so I can't vouch for its stability and performance.
Hope this helps others with this phone. It's really nice when it works but it seems to have a few software pitfalls as well. Feel free to move this to an HTC Ozone forum should one be set up in the near future.

Hard Reset
hi,
i am tried to do the same but still my phone shows HTC logo screen
how i can fix the briced phone
i am in Qatar Middle east (out side of US)
help me to fix the my lovely phone
Great Guide!
Thanks for posting this! My HTC Snap has a broken screen and I wanted to hard reset before I sold it. This was the only place I could find instructions with enough detail to do it without seeing what I was doing!
Hi all,
I had a terrible catastrophic failure today with my 1-month old HTC Wildfire. I bought my device new, unlocked, in Singapore.
Here's what happened:
Today I received an ordinary SMS (like I have hundreds of times before in the past few weeks) and when I picked up the phone off of the desk, flipped on the screen, and slid my finger to unlock it, I saw a brief error message in a dialog on top of the Messages app. It was something like "com.something .... ", I didn't get a good look at the error but it didn't really mean anything to me at the time. The SMS that I received was then lost (I knew who it was from, but the message was not showing up). A few minutes later, I heard another SMS notification. No error message this time, but again the message did not show up in my Messages app.
So, I pressed the power button to power cycle the phone. After I shut it down, I turned it back on, saw the white screen with HTC logo, then black. It was dead. No amount of pressing buttons did anything.
After a few minutes, I removed the battery and it turned on again. Again, white splash screen and then darkness. Repeated this several times and same result.
Finally, I googled how to do a hard reset. I followed the instructions, held the volume down button while pressing power, cleared the memory, after it restarted it went right back to the white bootloader screen, flashed some error messages, and now I'm stuck in the bootloader. When I select the RECOVERY option, I get a quick screen with something like:
SD Checking ...
Loading [SOMEFILE.zip] ...
No Image!
Loading [SOMEFILE.zip] ...
No Image!
....
....
No Image or Wrong Image!
Can anybody help??! I don't know what to do now. I've searched for this "No Image or Wrong Image" message on these forums, but all the results are about rooting and loading different ROMs. I've never rooted or anything out of the ordinary, I just want the stock OS back and operational.
Btw ... I'm an Android noob, but an experienced Linux/Mac user and 10-year software developer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate
Recovery mode is something else.
To do a hardreset try the following:
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
Note: If you are not sure whether your phone's power is turned off, remove and then reinsert the battery.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.

Call HTC support. I had a problem with my previous HTC phone, and they took me through diagnositcs over the phone, and when they diagnosed a hardware fault, sent a courier to pick it up from me the next day. This was when the phone was 18 months old. No receipt was necessary, they used the serial number/manufacture date.
Downside: the phone was gone a week, and came back still broken. It was sent away again, and came back fixed. So painfully without it for two weeks, but not a bad experience.
(edit: it was a similar problem: I upgraded to windows 6.1, and my phone wouldn't get past the initial hardware/boot screen)
I tried the hard reset procedure several times. Every time it's the same thing. After it clears the memory, it says "Reboot in 5 seconds..." and then when it reboots, it goes back to the bootloader screens.
I've contacted HTC support via email, and I'm bringing it in to their support center in Singapore tomorrow. I really hope it doesn't take a week ... I'll keep you updated.
Fixed.
I just got my Wildfire back today after a full week in the repair center. Apparently they replaced the main system board. No other explanation for the problem was given.
The repair process itself was hassle free, although I was frustrated by not having my phone for a week. Ended up having to buy a cheap basic phone for $55 to get by on SMS and voice.
Hi all,
I have had loads of problems with this phone, so I decided to do a factory reset.
It rebooted as normal until it got to the Motoblur setup page
It asks for the Motoblur details to be entered, but once you have entered them and pressed the 'next' button, it goes back to the previous screen instead of the next step and then gets stuck in a never ending loop.
I've tried skipping the sign in process but instead of skipping it, it just goes back to the first Motoblur account setup screen instead.
Out of desperation, I have tried to make several new Motoblur accounts but every single time, it gets to 80% completion, then stops.
I have even left running all night (plugged in) and it still freezes at 80%
I can't do another factory reset because it won't get past the Motoblur setup screen.
I've tried to do a hard reset by holding x and powering the phone on but this doesn't work. It just brings up the triangle and android robot but it does not go to the next step despite me leaving it for several minutes.
Only had it for 7 weeks and am awaiting a response from Expansys on what to do.
Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated.
Apply a debrand image of your system and do a full wipe

Have you pressed the @ key when you get to this step with the robot and the triangle? That should bring up the reset menu, and then you use the volume and camera buttons to choose and select the option you require.
Cheers,
Steve.

I didn't know you had to press @
Thanks
I've done a hard reset, but I still have the exact same problem.
If I try to input my proper Motoblur details it instantly says connection failed (it doesn't seem to even try to connect as fails the instant you press 'next)
Creating a new account hangs at 80%
Any more ideas before I throw it against a wall?
I notice there was an option to boot from SD in the recovey mode.
Would this allow me to boot an official motorola rom?
If so, where would I get the rom from?
A walkthorugh on exactly how to do this would be appreciated if this method could fix my issues.
I'm really annoyed because I sold my HD2 for this phone and I'm regretting it.
Thanks

I think you need internet connection in order to validate your account or create a new one. Check your APN settings first, or do it on wifi.
Hi,
I've tried it whilst connected to my wifi router. I've even tried it via the data connection but nothing happens.
It seems that despite the data/wifi connections being there, it just ignores them.
I think this is the issue. It's not connecting and I don't know why
The phone displays the wifi/3G data symbols in the task bar but it doesn't seem to be using them during the Motoblur setup
Mine is dead too!!!
Hello everybody,
Greetings from sunny, flooded, blown away, Queensland Australia!
Long time lurker, first time poster...
I have a...
Vodafone-Australian-2.2-Milestone2
2 weeks old and its an expensive paper weight. It was rooted and thats about it, had a bunch of root required apps on there, installed the bootstrap, but hadnt installed Xrecovery yet.
I was playing around the other day. changing settings, installing and uninstalling a heap of apps, testing them. Some app suggested I restart or it restarted itself, cant recall, and that was the end. Boots until it gets past the M, and then its just bootloop city.
Won't register on comp in RSD or anything. Will boot to stock recovery and cleared cache and data several times, but that didnt fix anything. Won't even charge the battery. It will run an update but has to be signed. Problem is, we havent had any updates yet on these phones in Australia and there are no custom roms. What update.zip could I get to try to fix it, because I think thats about my only hope.
While recovery was wiping the data and cache it would stop frequently and each time I would touch the ok in the bottom corner of the screen and it would continue, and seemingly despite the 10 or more stops, completes fine. Surely thats not normal.
Out of ideas, I would just send it back with a story but the vodafone boot animation is replaced with disco flashing lights. and thats all it does, non-stop. Do you think they will notice someone has been tinkering?
Ideas? Thoughts?
Oh, and forgot to mention, when I first got it I had the same problem with the Motorola sign in wizard on startup, for quite a while, cant remember how I got around it though. Stop trying to sign in and just get out of that wizard, install ADW Launcher or similar and dont go near any Moto apps. You are only required to do a Gmail sign in, not Moto.
That's the problem though.
I'm stuck at the Motoblur sign in and it will not skip.
Whenever I select skip, it just goes back to the motoblur sign in page instead of going to the home screen.
Basically, in a nutshell, this is what's wrong:
I can't sign in to motoblur (gets stuck in a loop)
I can't create a new motoblur account (crashes at 80% every time)
I can't skip the sign in process (takes me back to the motoblur sign in page instead of loading home screen)
This is my first and last Motorola phone. Not good at all.
So what happens if you press press home or back repeatedly instead of skip? And if all fails reflash new SBF

It just goes back to the motoblur setup/signin screen no matter how many time I press home, back or skip. It's as if a dll is missing and it's unable to boot to the home screen.
How do I flash a new SBF?
Motorola have agreed to let me return it but if I can do it myself I'd rather do it.
I have found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11155476#post11155476
but the link to the UK SBF is dead
Yeah, that's the one, and the link to UK SBF works fine for me. If you can't get it to flash that way, then you are going to have to do it the way I am about to do mine, which is...

Failing that, send it back and be done with it.
since its so new id send it back. you shouldnt be having this problem at all. the milestone 2 is a very solid phone. i had mine running for 90 days straight not even a reboot or crash or anything lol. sounds like you just got a duff one. with any piece of technology theres bound to be a few that slip through the net. even if you find a fix for your problem you dont know what is causing it. and if youve had problems before then somethings obviously wrong. since theyve agreed to let you return it then thats your best option.
Probably i should send mine one back as well.
Bought a new Milestone 2 yesterday (from ebay, Chinese guys but as per retail package phones are for UK market). Put the SIM in just to check before wiping out everything from my old Defy. Made a call, checked the version and the menu and put the SIM back to Defy to backup all I needed. Plugged Milestone to the mains. 3 hours later found promising "Fully charged" on the screen and put the SIM in. That was it... Since I can't power the phone whatever I do. I thought the Power button went off as I tried to perform hard reset (x+Pwr), BRM (Arrow up+Pwr) and nothing happent at all. But then I put the phone on the charger again and the Power button worked fine switching the screen off and back on.
Any other methods to get the phone running?
UPDATE: It's strange and weird, but I've just had an idea to remove SD card and it worked - the phone powered on immediately!! Formatted the card using card reader, put it back - the phone works flawlessly. Fantastic! =))
While i am a noob for Android/Smartphones, I am kinda a geek for pc's... With that in mind, I ask: Why doesn't someone create a program that can be downloaded and placed on a SD card that will run during a smartphones boot up that will start the phone in a "Safe mode" and allow users to fix them.
I currently have a Samsung that keeps freezing when the logo appears. I have attempted to perform a "Soft reset" but it still freezes. I don't know were to turn, so here I am....
I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong forum... Any help with were i should go from here will be greatly appreciated.
try charging it and turning it on....or try to repeatedly take out the battery and then turning it back on.....it happens sometimes one mine
You also could run a logcat to see where the phone is hanging.
Are you running stock?

will the phone go to download-mode? hold the volume-/camera/power for about 10secs it should get to a download screen so it can be reflashed, otherwise... well you know...
Sometimes this startup hanging happens for me & it will only boot w/o the SD card. Give that a shot.
This happens to me several times a month. The only solution that works consistently for me is:
1. Remove the battery
2. Wait for several minutes (Seems that some component needs to cool down, or capacitors need to drain, or something)
3. Then plug the battery back in
4. Reboot
i have found that when you hold down the Phone button for about a minute or so after you remove the battery , the phone will vibrate , do not remove your finger until the phone vibrates ...and it should boot from there.
Solution
I was talking to a tech rep at Virgin Mobile one day, and asked him if this was a common problem (knowing already that it was). Sparing you the details, what he told me is that when the intercept boots up, something gets jammed up with the 3G. And then the phone locks in the flashing logo phase. Now, EVERY single time I shut my phone down, I put it in airplane mode. It then reboots in airplane mode, and I almost never have a problem (meaning two or three times in the last 6 months). When is does happen, I reboot it again, and it boots right up. I presume that if need be, take it into a place with no signal and reboot it then.
