Phone being leased and have a broken screen... but Im switching... - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I have a broken screen (hair line), and Im switching back to TMobile, what are my options so i dont have to pay for this? Tmobile have a switching option of up to $650 per line so they're gonna pay my balance from sprint. But my problem is that I have a cracked screen. So i have to bring it to the repair shop first? Or i get billed for damaged screen?

Im in the exact same boat. I'm 99% sure T-Mobile will make you replace the screen before they take it as I heard another customer get his phone rejected in the store for the same reason. I'm moving back to AT&T and they said the same.
I was quoted $269 to get it fixed by Samsung and that price included taxes and shipping. All other local places in Austin quoted me 380....greedy bastards!
Luckily there is a local samsung repair center that has about 3 hour turn around. They'll repair for 249. I'd look into that!
Good luck man!

Since my phone is being leased, I might just return it to sprint and pay the damage cost, since the final bill will be paid by T-Mobile when I switched with them.

When you had it repaired, did they(at&t) reimbursed the cost? Or you have to pay it yourself?(they don't give your money back)

Nope, all out of pocket.

any suggestions on inexpensive replacement parts?
Parts? You mean you didn't get the insurance???
insurance
how do you get the insurance?
i read the book and supposedly it doesn't cover negligence (like dropping the phone on concrete)
So far I only seen them on eBay.
seeing as how the titan's relatively new, i'd say it'd be very hard to get replacement parts. I remember when i had a tytn and i needed a replacement digitizer, it was such a hassle that it was easier for me to just buy a new phone. which is why i now have the titan. I would recommend trying to go through htc america for parts if you live in the states. unfortunately here in canada, a canadian htc repair building does not exist.
broke my mogul's screen earlier this year, brought it in to sprint on the insurance plan, and got it back for free. TEP plan for sprint shoudl be 5-6$ a month. You can get it for one, bring your phone in, then cancel it.
dunno if you have the verizon version though
My Htc Tytn or Titan or sprint mogul or 6800, hmmm I think it has enough names also had the lcd crack. I was curious if anyone knows how much sprint charges to fix a broken LCD and touchscreen? I don't want to have to send my phone away to pocketpctechs in the mail if I don't have to. I also don't have the insurance and it's too late for me to add-on now because I checked.
Also, has anyone paid pocketpctechs.com to fix theirs yet? Says it costs $169 plus you pay the shipping to them. Do they provide good service/work and do they honor their warranties? Thanks in advance if anyone has any more info.
I think I remember reading somewhere that they charge maximum of 50 dollars for a repair, but I may be off. I am pretty sure that if you bring it in for them to fix, afterwards you can tell them to add insurance to your account.
Yeah, there's a $50 deductible if you have the insurance to replace a phone, but has anyone had to bite the bullet and pay the full fix-it fees without insurance. Also I have two moguls do you know if you bring it in for them to inspect if they'll add insurance. Also, secondary when you bring a phone in for fixing do they verify ESN's and such to verify actual phone?
~$60 repaired at Sprint store
Got my Mogul's screen replaced at a local Sprint store. They charged $55 + tax for the repair. It's all done in a hour.

Now did they just replace the touchscreen or the digitizer underneath too? I was thinking it would be way more. Thanks for sharing the info though. This makes me feel much better.

Insurance on the N1 not available ??

I called a Tmo rep, she said that there is no insurance available thru Tmo for the N1 since I bought it directly from google.
Does anyone know of any third party insurance
Pissed I dropped so much money and I'm not even covered if its lost/stolen, might have to sell it tommorrow when it arrives.

I bought some coverage from Squaretrade. It is like $70 for 2 years of coverage. Damage is covered up to $399. $130 short of the Nexus total price, but hey, I'd rather be out $200 (price of the Warranty included) than $530 should I somehow break it.
After 2 years time, I'll be due a new phone anyways
I get mine through my bank account. Might be worthwhile if you need travel insurance/breakdown cover etc.
http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/added_value_accounts.asp
Both Google and TMO confirmed that there is no insurance offered for the N1.
At this time, insurance is not offered for the Nexus One. We appreciate your feedback.

I wouldn't even consider making a claim against my homeowner's for this. That would be ridiculous. I'm looking into other solutions.
I just visited the t-mobile store to activate my N1 and I asked them about the insurance. The rep said that they will *probably* be able to insure the phone soon. The rep also suggested to add the insurance to my plan so once the insurance policy starts I'll be covered.
Not sure how knowledgeable the rep was or if it was complete bull****, but I got the insurance anyways, just $5 a month.
whats the warrenty on the n1?

I agree with this line of thought. It's a similar situation to the iPhone which has never been insurable through AT&T and Asurion (that's the insurance carrier's name).

I believe it is the same as all other wireless handsets; one year from date of purchase.
a phone doesn't look like a really good thing to insure on paper... to an insurance company.
$5 / month = 106 months = 8.833333 YEARS for them to recoup their costs if you spaz out and kill your phone. (Assuming the full $530 price)
i wouldn't insure that thing either. buy it, use it, don't break it.

Kudos to Sprint for Once

Just got my Epic last Monday and I ALREADY (super clumsy move) dropped it and the screen cracked on Sunday. Went to the Sprint store today and they replaced my screen for free (I do have insurance though and pay the monthly $7). This is the 2nd time I've broken a screen with them in the past 6 months or so (broke my Moment screen too, which they also fixed for free). Just wanted to let everyone know that if you break your screen, and they have available replacements & you have insurance, they'll do it for free.
I believe if you don't have insurance they will replace it for 35$. Maybe someone here can confirm first hand but that's what a local sprint store charged a co worker when he shattered his evo then broke the lcd trying to replace the glass himself.

Does anyone know if you can just buy the insurance whenever? I've had my phone for a little bit and I want to buy it, but my parents keep saying that they'll [Sprint] never let me do it =/.

Yes; if you don't have insurance, they wil replace it for $35, and if it breaks again within 30 days of the first replacement, it is free.
After bricking my Epic twice...I can definitely confirm this lol.

If you have a best buy near you..just go with their insurance. It's 10 a month instead of 7; but you don't pay a premium when you have to make a claim. And they cover EVERYTHING except lost/stolen.
Just dial *2 for customer service and ask if you can add the insurance. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't want to collect an extra $7/month, though I'm sure they have a waiting period for a claim to be considered legit if you add it after the initial 30 days from phone purchase.
They will add insurance at anytime, the only rule is that it wont activate until you make a call from the insured phone to make sure you don't break/lose it then add insurance
I second the best buy recommendation. Although it can take a little time for the replacement, if your phone is deemed beyond repairable they give you in store credit for a new phone. My "hero" mysteriously developed a 45 degree bend in the middle, and they gave me credit that I put to an Epic. Best move ever.

You have to add it within 30 days of activating the phone. If it's been past 30 days, you can activate another phone, then reactivate your Epic, and add the insurance to your Epic.

being a sprint tech support rep i can tell you that your method is correct, however if the device you activated was activated before it will show the original activation date, alot of tech reps got fired for fraud trying to help customers out, they would activate an old device, add insurance, then switch to the new device. sprint caught us trying to help people and started marking it fraud.... so we had to stop, which sucks when the cust is cool and we cant do anything to help him/her.
and if you do not have TEP(insurance) ERP(just replacment inusrrance, or ESRP(just servicing the device in store no replacement insurance) there is a $35 charge, use to be $120 but changed about 2 months ago near christmas... also if you dont want to pay the $7 a month switch to one of the other plans and pay3-4 depending which you choose, forgot which is which... and at any time you can switch to TEP with no problem and even help a sprint rep(that helped you) out with a "sale"

They might have changed this but in the past they would let you put insurance on it but then you couldn't immediately make a claim. I think you have to wait either 14 or 30 days. This was so you didn't break it and then expect to add it and immediately get your broke phone fixed.

I see the term "insurance" tossed around a lot when really what the poster means is the service and repair plan.
TEP is made up of both Insurance through Assurion, and the service and repair plan. Assurion replaces phones if you damage it beyond the level a repair center will handle, such as liquid damage, or board level damage. They also cover lost devices as well.
The Equipment Service and Repair plan is a service plan that gets you free service on the device in the store, including and up to replacing the phone with another if they can't fix it, and it's not liquid or board level damaged (go with the above if so)
Both plans cost four dollars each, or, if you have both you pay 7. If you just had the Insurance.. I.E. Assurion, a store is not going to work on your phone for free, and if you just have the service plan, you're not going to get a replacement for a lost phone or one you dumped into the toilet from Assurion.
Currently just the four dollar a month service and equipment replacement plan will get you new screens or whatever else you need as long as it's not liquid, board level damage, broken in half, whatever. If a store orders you another phone, that's not insurance, they did so because they couldn't fix it.
Hmmm... well. Thank you for all of your replies! You all are a big help.
At the Best Buy suggestion... no. I cannot stand Geek Squad. The corporate system there is terrible.
I'll probably just end up calling Sprint this weekend and asking if I can add it. It's been more than 30 days, but it's worth a shot.
Sent from the Epic that bites.

[Q] does this sound legit?

Hey epic community,
So today, I dropped my phone abt a foot and it landed flat on concrete. To keep it short, it resulted in a spider crack that spans from top left corner diagonally down to bottom right.
I do not have any insurance on this phone.
I asked around to see how much it would cost to fix this and a store worker told me $65 dollars to just replace it for another phone(the worker didn't guarantee it would be a new one.. said may be a refurbished unit).
The worker also said he would give me 30 days to replace it if it is defective in any way.
Does this sound legit to you guys?
Just sounds too good to be true. $65 dollars for a $500+ phone.
Where does this "worker" work? lol
And it's no longer a $500 phone, you can get them cheaper now.
You should check with Sprint, I saw an offer online that they were allowing customers to add TEP to their account and device for a short time. I don't recall the timeline on that offer though.

I recall an insert in my Sprint bill saying open enrollment was for the month of August. I think this link has more information. http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=1995
Apparent;y you can enroll here. http://www.tepenroll.com/
They say your phone must be functioning & in your possession. No broken or lost phones, I guess.

That may be true, but this offer allows him to add TEP to his account if he so desired.
Yea I understand the TEP coverage.
But then I'd have to pay $107 vs $65.
I don't have TEP, best buy, or any other insurance.
Just wanted to get other people's opinions(esp. those that work for Sprint or are more familar with their policies than the average person) on whether it feels fishy.

We don't have insurance and was told on a defect it would be $35 for any repair lol. But that's a defective phone and not a crack. Just buy a digitizer & screen combo and do it yourself
I dunno if they still do it, but when I broke my epic screen, Sprint had a $35 flat repair rate for everything other than water damage or mainboard damage. The key is to search for a sprint store on sprint's site, and make sure you find one that is a *repair center*. The other stores will just get a phone shipped to you. When I went in, they had a shell of an epic with everything except the mainboard, battery, and battery door. They just swapped my mainboard, sd card, battery, and battery door over to it and $35 later I was on my way with a new screen, keyboard, and housing.
If I were you, I'd call around to the various repair centers in your area(doesn't have to be a corporate store), and verify the $35 policy and see if they have a screen in stock so you can get in and out.
ETA: This was all without insurance.
Okay, thanks all.
I think I'll go through with it.
What could possibly go wrong? .............
Other than you losing money... good luck.
When my phone broke, I took it to the Sprint Store and got a new one for $35 within 3 days.

BB Warranty

I bought my service plan and cell phone at the Verizon kiosk in Best Buy. I opted in for the $9.99 protection plan. Ive had my phone for more than 30 days. I have a cracked camera lens. Just wondering how their replacement plan works? Their site doesnt have the DInc listed any more so Im not sure if all they do is send it in for repair, replace it, or what.
I remember reading right after dincs eol that people were getting the incredible 2 through Verizon's insurance
Give BestBuy a call and find out what they can do for you, i don't think this is verizions deal

You can only add the Ausurion insurance from Verizon, within the first 30 days of owning the device. I'd call BB and see what they say.

Should have had the Verizon insurance.
Just got off the phone with BB. They charge $9.99 a month. If your phone breaks you go in, they take your phone and ship it to a Geek Squad repair center. In the mean time they give you an old school loaner phone at which point my unlimited data package is worthless since I cant do anything. On top of that you pay the $9.99 a month and to get a loaner phone of any sort its $50 while your phone is being repaired.
Hopefully HTC's customer service is worth something.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that. I will definitely stay away from their protection plans. Ausurion is awesome. I've had to use them once before. They just ship you another phone. The deductible went up recently when they lowered the monthly charge, but it's still well worth it.
Good luck on getting it fixed without too much of a pain.
