I recently rooted my HTC Hero and had no issues with it. I was trying to nandroid backup it, but now I can't download any of the programs from the Market. I have a restore image, but I dont have any clue how to get it onto my phone. Help would be amazing, I hope I didn't brick my phone.

You haven't bricked your phone. If you are positive you have a restore image or that you've done a nandroid back up. You should be able to boot into recovery and restore you back up by:
**You should either have your Nandroid back up still on your SD card or you saved it somewhere on your computer when you did your first Nandroid back up, if the latter -- copy the ENTIRE Nandroid folder onto your SD card and proceed with the following steps.
1. Turn your phone off
2. Press and hold home+power to boot into recovery
3. Choose Backup/Restore
4. Choose Restore backup
5. Choose the back up file (labeled Nandroid)
6. Confirm that you want to restore the backup by pressing the home button.
7. Wait a while
8. Reboot your phone
And report back if you have problems.
Looks like when I go into the recovery page, the only option I have is Clear Storage, nothing about restoring

You are positive that you flashed a recovery ROM correct? Do you remember doing steps 13-19 from the guide below? Also, what resource did you use to "root" your phone and did it ever mention anything about installing a custom recovery image, if so -- what version of the recovery image do you currently have?

Make sure that you are not holding down both the Power and Home keys. You only need to hold down Home and TAP power to make it come on. Once you feel the vibrate you can let go of the Home key.
Yes, Kcarpenter's right...I wouldn't want to be held liable for deleting your data, but then again...it'll teach you a lesson and you'll never forget to make a Nandroid back up.
try and fix your market problem first, I say. Does gTalk run on your phone? if not, try creating a brand new google account, rerunning the setup app, and log in with that one. Let us know how it goes.
edit:I've seen this happen to more than one person, and it's on google's end, not yours if this is the case.
I rooted today, and I want to install damages rom. I've downloaded it, and I need some guidance. I have no idea where to go from here and don't see directions in the thread.
Anyone? eek! nervous
power off the phone
hold home and press the power button
let go of home when it vibrates
go to wipe..
wipe everything
go back to flash. flash the zip file.
reboot.
reboot takes forever.
what about a backup, should I run the nandroid backup and do a backup or a backup + ext I think it said or similar?
I want to make sure I can revert back to my 1.5 rom.
Do I also need to take all the damangecontrols zip file contents and put em on my sd card?

Good quick guide. They should all be so simple. Although I don't go the home/power way (unless adb isn't connecting). I use adb shell reboot recovery. Just my 2cents.

Yes, you need to nandroid. You only use nandroid+ext if you're using a2sd/apps2sd.
No, just put the zipfile on the SD card.
When you get into recovery (either the home+power on, or the adb shell reboot recovery method) AFTER doing your nandroid backup, then select 'flash zip from sd card' and select the ROM zipfile you put on the SD card.
KCarpenter's not kidding about the reboot. I've seen the first boot after installing DC's 2.0.8.1 take 15-30 minutes. So after flashing it, reboot and go take a shower or something.

And for people like me who hate to have to start over from scratch every time he blows up a ROM install.
Ignore post -- looks like this has already been answered.

Oh one more question, are text messages migratable? Can I save those somehow before I upgrade?

Going from 2.x to 2.x yes. I never had any luck migrating those from 1.5 to 2.1. All I ever accomplished was a lot of Force Closes and problems, so I just said screw it and stopped trying.

Just blow em away...there are a couple options but none "good".
ok DM rom is installed!
I can't set it up tho and sign into google! says I dont have a network connection! Crap!
This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services
Thats what it says...

I'm looking to upgrade my phone to a custom ROM, but I'm not sure which one is the best for my needs. This is what I am looking for:
Fyro Update
Increased Phone Speed
Increased Battery Support
Adblock for browser and apps
Also, how do I flash my ROM? I have the drivers to connect my phone to my computer, and that's about as far as I got. Secondly, will I lose my apps and their data? I already have my contacts and SMS backed up.
Thanks guys
jt
As a shameless plug - I whole-heartedly recommend SyndicateROM. It'll fulfill three of your four features already (including ad blocking in apps and the browser), and when the OFFICIAL, FINAL (ACS prides itself on stability and feature-completeness) Froyo release is out, it will be updated right away!
That's actually the one I was looking at. Is there instructions on how to flash your ROM? Will I lose my apps and their data?
After rooting you'll need Clockwork Recovery mod(CWM). Look for a Dev who has created a root with a CWM install (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388).
1. Follow steps to root and install CWM.
2. Download a ROM and put it on your SDcard (Start with ones that have been around for a while and have been tested quite a bit. Avoid Froyo ones till you feel comfortable with CWM and Odin {if you ever use it}).
3. Reboot into CWM, BACKUP everything (this is key for your data to come back), wipe x3 (including cache)
4. Install ROM from SDcard(reboot, may take a few minutes to load for the first time)
5. Reboot into CWM, and advance restore (DATA only). reboot
6. Enjoy with all your data.
Hope this helps
Epic Experience + Phoenix is the best battery life I've had on any ROM.
Performance feels like stock, which is to say, this phone is really fast just as is and I don't think its screaming for better performance out of the box. Its not like it feels sluggish like the Evo does.
All these devs do great work! You can't go wrong with any of these roms. This belongs in the General Discussions section!

camera button, down volume and power on.
I suggest you try them all and figure out what you like or don't like. Also try out the ODIN program so when you accidentally bork your phone you will know how to fix it right away.
Got it. I assume this is backing up to my SD card. Do I not wipe my SD card?
Thanks, this should be the last question!

The only way you will wipe your SD card is if you partition it for A2SD support. The factory reset wipes all your data and might be a good idea if you are going from one rom/kernel to another. CWM backs up to your SD card. I have about 6 backups and can restore several different roms if I want. If you try all the roms out and make backups of all them it will be easy to go back to what you want.
A program called ROM Manager will make it easy to rename your backups.
Hi all
I have a Wildfire that had Cm7, was rooted and s-offed. As Im selling the phone i thought it would be a good idea if I reset to factory, ready to be sold. However it has now given me a problem.
I reset to factory by clearing the storage on the hboot screen, and now when i turn on the phone it stays on the boot animation. I can get top the hboot menu, but im now stuck.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Have you tried reinstalling CM7/Sense ROM?
No,
Are the steps the same as a normal install?
Yes.
Sent from my Ainol Novo7 Elf using xda premium
Did you factory reset to remove your personal data or to try get back to sense? You should always factory reset in recovery to avoid these problems. Also it wont return sense, need a stock rom or a ruu for that

I thought when i was doing it, it would just delete all the apps and stuff, so it would be a brand new phone but with cm7 installed.
Ill try and reinstall cm7 and see what happens..........
Right, update
I've followed this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Wildfire:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_Recovery and on step 5, i've selected - Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
and now teh screen hasnt moved for about 10 minutes, its on the screen where there is a top hat and yellow arrow...........
help.....
press the power button again then use the trackball. to select everything in cwm.
Also I'm not 100% as I've never cleared storage from hboot but doesn't that wipe your SD card?
if so you may have wiped some files needed by the phone so you may need to reinstall Cm7 or whichever rom, not just factory reset.

any ideas?
ok did you install gapps as well? go back to recovery and factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache. then reboot and try again.
No, didn't include gapps, i'll do that and see what happens when I get home

pretty sure you need gapps for setup to work
Recommended Solution (by me):
(suppose u want "clear setup" of CM7 stable)
Prepare your SD
Wipe off everything
Copy setup files
download.cyanogenmod.com/get/stable/gingerbread/update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
download.clockworkmod.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Get out the SIM card
Boot to recovery
Wipe phone storage
In recovery go to mounts and storage
Unmount /cache
Format /cache, /data, /system
Go back, then to the advanced and Reboot Recovery
"Install" OS
Back in recovery go to install zip from sdcard/choose zip from sdcard
First install update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
Then gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
And finally Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Go back, and power off
Now u re in state "like from the store", that mean that OS is not really installed, there re just files copied and real installation will run on frist boot
Unfortunately, theres a catch
Theres problem with CM7 installation and it can face the problem with GPS
First boot will pop-up "market like" window with all Google apps, my recommendation is to wait, dont install anyting, dont click on anything, just wait, it will disapear... u can safely install them later from the market..
You don't really need the su.zip, since CM7 comes pre-rooted.

That's a good plan, but with 2 drawbacks ... 1 you don't need to flash su. Might break stuff since cm7 is pre rooted. 2 what if something else went wrong and he hasn't booted the phone to check? Then sells, unaware of it being damaged. Buyer comes back angry, ect ect aside from that good tut

sorry but u re wrong.. it cant break anything.. its just update.. in CM7.1.0.1 is SU 3.0.6 u can safely update it to 3.0.7 (i do it every time like that..)
Edit: sure guys... u dont have to do that... u can do it later from market... u will be prompt to do that... lol ....its defenetly better way install app like that from market rather than from recovery...
(both ways works in this case, anyway my logic says me that is better install crucial apps like that from recovery..)

..thats exactly why i mentioned point 7.
he have to decide what will be his next step..
if he decide to boot and try it out he will have to login to wifi, login to google account (to download Maps or GPS status) etc.. etc.. it will NOT be clear any more..
...it really depends on who is the buyer... does he know him ? can they do that together wiht buyers account, etc..
...because i dont know this dependencies i leave it open.......

Hi fellow XDA-ers,
I am sorry to say I was too overconfident this time and while attempting to reset my phone, and i bricked it (i think).
So I was updating my N910F to the latest build of the official CM12.1, but I kept receiving weird problems such as no audio when taking videos, or random force closes. Since i hadn't done a wipe in a while (approx 3 months) i thought I'd do it before installing the latest build.
I booted into TWRP recovery, and then did an advanced wipe, and wiped system, data, cache and dalvik (i.e. everything but the ext sd card and the internal storage). I wanted to be thorough you see...
I then attempted to reboot the recovery before doing the installation, but I accidentally pressed system instead of recovery in the reboot menu.
Now my phone only gets to the samsung splash screen, waits for about 3 seconds and then closes again. I have to remove the battery and reinsert it again to get it to repeat this. Plugging it into the PC doesn't allow it to start. I can't reach recovery (otherwise this would be simple!). What can i do?
I would appreciate any and all help you can offer! please help!!

go to www.sammobile.com and download the latest firmware for your device model,
download Odin, there on sammobile website they have the instructions and everything you need,
read and follow all steps and instructions
after downloading the firmware you gonna unzipped and extract the odin file, then
open Odin, Click PDA and navigate to the file you extracted,
then click start, PHONE MUST BE ON DOWNLOAD MODE
This will restore your phone from factory, everything will be wiped, just to let you know, you gonna end having like a brand new phone, now after that, you can root your phone again, and be more carefull fashing roms,

Speaking of which, if you are willing, can you please explain what went wrong? I would like to know what I did so I can better understand my mistake. I am sure it has to do with what i deleted from the advanced wipe menu? What happens if i wipe and then restart?
Thanks again friend, very quick, friendly and helpful.

after wiping everything you phone doesn't have anything to boot, ive done it before as well, nothing wrong with that, that's the only cost, booting to factory again, but it was good you had everything backed up with titanium, just like me lol, you already know next time just go easy thru recovery, cheers:fingers-crossed:
