Hi all
I have a Wildfire that had Cm7, was rooted and s-offed. As Im selling the phone i thought it would be a good idea if I reset to factory, ready to be sold. However it has now given me a problem.
I reset to factory by clearing the storage on the hboot screen, and now when i turn on the phone it stays on the boot animation. I can get top the hboot menu, but im now stuck.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Have you tried reinstalling CM7/Sense ROM?
No,
Are the steps the same as a normal install?
Yes.

Did you factory reset to remove your personal data or to try get back to sense? You should always factory reset in recovery to avoid these problems. Also it wont return sense, need a stock rom or a ruu for that

I thought when i was doing it, it would just delete all the apps and stuff, so it would be a brand new phone but with cm7 installed.
Ill try and reinstall cm7 and see what happens..........
Right, update
I've followed this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Wildfire:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_Recovery and on step 5, i've selected - Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
and now teh screen hasnt moved for about 10 minutes, its on the screen where there is a top hat and yellow arrow...........
help.....
press the power button again then use the trackball. to select everything in cwm.
Also I'm not 100% as I've never cleared storage from hboot but doesn't that wipe your SD card?
if so you may have wiped some files needed by the phone so you may need to reinstall Cm7 or whichever rom, not just factory reset.

any ideas?
ok did you install gapps as well? go back to recovery and factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache. then reboot and try again.
No, didn't include gapps, i'll do that and see what happens when I get home

pretty sure you need gapps for setup to work
Recommended Solution (by me):
(suppose u want "clear setup" of CM7 stable)
Prepare your SD
Wipe off everything
Copy setup files
download.cyanogenmod.com/get/stable/gingerbread/update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
download.clockworkmod.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Get out the SIM card
Boot to recovery
Wipe phone storage
In recovery go to mounts and storage
Unmount /cache
Format /cache, /data, /system
Go back, then to the advanced and Reboot Recovery
"Install" OS
Back in recovery go to install zip from sdcard/choose zip from sdcard
First install update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
Then gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
And finally Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Go back, and power off
Now u re in state "like from the store", that mean that OS is not really installed, there re just files copied and real installation will run on frist boot
Unfortunately, theres a catch
Theres problem with CM7 installation and it can face the problem with GPS
First boot will pop-up "market like" window with all Google apps, my recommendation is to wait, dont install anyting, dont click on anything, just wait, it will disapear... u can safely install them later from the market..
You don't really need the su.zip, since CM7 comes pre-rooted.

That's a good plan, but with 2 drawbacks ... 1 you don't need to flash su. Might break stuff since cm7 is pre rooted. 2 what if something else went wrong and he hasn't booted the phone to check? Then sells, unaware of it being damaged. Buyer comes back angry, ect ect aside from that good tut

sorry but u re wrong.. it cant break anything.. its just update.. in CM7.1.0.1 is SU 3.0.6 u can safely update it to 3.0.7 (i do it every time like that..)
Edit: sure guys... u dont have to do that... u can do it later from market... u will be prompt to do that... lol ....its defenetly better way install app like that from market rather than from recovery...
(both ways works in this case, anyway my logic says me that is better install crucial apps like that from recovery..)

..thats exactly why i mentioned point 7.
he have to decide what will be his next step..
if he decide to boot and try it out he will have to login to wifi, login to google account (to download Maps or GPS status) etc.. etc.. it will NOT be clear any more..
...it really depends on who is the buyer... does he know him ? can they do that together wiht buyers account, etc..
...because i dont know this dependencies i leave it open.......

Hi all.
Followed the guide on here:
http://androidandme.com/2010/01/hacks/video-how-to-unlock-and-root-a-nexus-one/
Rooting wasnt a problem, installing the RA wasnt a problem.
It took awhile to get the phone detected in windows through the USB Debugging mode.
Flashed it using the update-cm-5.0-N1-beta3-signed update.
Now its stuck on the screen thats flash ....
Just keeps doing it over and over. WTF is happening?
Any ideas please.
Thanks

Ok detailed instructions.
You rooted and loaded Amon's recovery.(clearly being you flashed beta 3).
Did you Nandroid back up before you flashed as the directions said?
If so, you can simply restore that. and Phoen should be good.
If not,
boot back into Amon's recovery. Hold down volume thing as you click power, to get bootload, then scroll to recovery..
In Amon's recovery, you need to Wipe, Then flash Cyan's beta 3 which should be located on the top level of you SD card.
IN future. ALWAYS do Nandroid backup. I'm new, but when i screwed up i could just restore really easily. Avoided alot of pain/stress that way.

Using Amon's RA, there are a list of options, one of them is "wip", open that up and it will give you a list of things to wipe. You will want to "wipe data", "wipe dalvik-cache" and "wipe ext"... then, go to SD card and repair your ext.
Now would be a good time to add in an ext file to your SD card if you want to use apps to SD card... you cand do that in Amon's recovery as well under the SD option, just select "partition SD card FAT32, ext2" and follow the insturctions... then I would recommend selecting the "upgrade ext2 to ext3" option afterwards.
Once you have done all the wiping, partitioned your SD card, do 1 more "wipe data" for good measure, then flash CM's 5.0 beta, then flash the google apps pack, then reboot and you should be good to go.

I just lol'd.
I didnt see the Wipe option under flash from SD thats all
if you dont wipe first before installing new rom then this will happen to you.
i had the same problem and i wiped it and re-installed and it worked perfectly
theres a "wipe" option when you in the recovery boot image
Its all ok now. I got worried and flashed standard rom back using 'fastboot flash system system.something'
Then it booted fine, so turned off. Went into the bootloader, then down to recovery and saw 'Wipe'
Haha
haha, i am curious to know if anyone has managed to brick their N1 yet?
So I just successfully rooted my Aria, but that's all I've done...I'm kind of overwhelmed here and have no idea what to do. So what's next?
Also, for some reason my phone is saying: "Low on space; Phone storage space is getting low." and it wants me to delete apps i've downloaded. Is there a way to fix this since i rooted?
Just flash a rom and you should get all the blotware out
sent from my HTC Intruder
Yeah flash a custom rom..and also make sure you have apps to SD enabled and have a partion made on SD to save them there..this will delete everything on SD so back it up first. Try flashing cyanogen 6.1.1 ...its awesome!

Alright, you have two choices, the CM 6.1.1 ROM or the FR008 HTC Sense liberated ROM.
CM 6.1.1 is better battery, but doesn't have htc sense. Looks more like stock android.
You can overclock on both.
CM6.1.1 seems to be faster to me.

CM 6.1.1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715
Read up on them, and download one of them. Plug your phone into your computer and mount usb storage. Move the .zip to your sd card.
Turn of your phone, and then turn it on by holding the power button and the volume down button. Go to wipe data / factory reset, and do that. Also go to advanced > wipe dalvik cache. Also wipe the cache partition if you want to.
Go to install zip from sd card and find the .zip file.
If you have apps you want to back up, download an app called ASTRO before you start. Once installed, press menu, then select tools, and go to app manager / backup and backup the apps

The flashing instructions are that you do a nandroid backup, wipe data, wipe dalvik cahce, and then flash the rom. Sooooo... Just boot into clockwork and follow the flashing instructions again. Be sure that you wipe data... this really is important.
okay i booted to clockwork, wiped data, and clicked the wipe dalvik cache. didn't nandroid because already did that right after i rooted. when i clicked wipe dalvik cache, it didn't seem do do anything...no graphical response like with the factory reset. then i installed the zip files for cyanogen mod and google apps. booted up and restored all my apps. browser still doesnt work and i haven't tested the text message thread view because i have no messages...
i got the roms from the big thread of roms on this site...
please help...
UPDATE: The messaging app works fine for now. The defualt browser still doesn't work right. It says "The application Browser (process com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I just downloaded Skyfire, so it's not too big of a deal. As far as I can tell everything is working fine, but I'd still like to figure out what the problem is.
EDIT: It's now doing the same thing with with Google Framework, and doesn't remember my contacts or call log that i put in JUST this morning. And messaging is just like it was before. This was after I turned the phone off and rebooted later.
Sounds like you did everything right...try deleteding that file from SD and redownloading it..flash straight from SD ...make sure you follow all above steps again and make sure your not plugged in to USB ...other than that I see no reason browser wouldn't work...
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I guess you already know steps but just you to be sure;
- Re download zip
- place it in your SD card with usb
- unplug usb cable and boot into recovery
- wipe data
- wipe dalvik cache
- flash rom (be sure that you still unplugged usb cable)
- boot
P.S: Or just try another rom to see if its working fine?

No, once you are rooted you can install and use apps that require 'root' access like ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, etc.
On stock 2.1 from a brand new phone. Wanting to get a Bionix-V 1.2 rom installed to start with. (unless someone points out a more popular/stable/better rom to start with)
So I thought I was following the guide right but I cant figure out what.
NOOB GUIDE is what I was following. Here is where I think i messed up or got lost.
3 – Rom Manager / Clockwork Recovery
Now that you have your apps, system data & home settings saved, go to the Market to download Rom Manager (there is a paid and a free version, either will work, but I always suggest supporting developers if you can). We are going to use Rom Manager to install an alternate recovery, called Clockwork Recovery. This is what allows you to make a backup of your entire system (called a nandroid backup).
Once you download and install Rom Manager, open it, give it Root Access (Check to always remember if it's not already selected). At the top, click "Flash Clockwork Recovery" and after it has finished click to Reboot Into Recovery.
If this is your first time, you are very likely at the stock vibrant recovery (purple text)... click on Re-install packages. Your phone will reboot and should come back to the Clockwork Recovery (green text).
If at stock, click reinstall packages again (likely worked the first time).
Great, now you have a custom recovery. Scroll down (by using the volume buttons) and select (by using the power button) to backup your system. This will take about 5 minutes to complete. Once done, you have a complete snapshot of your phone that you should always be able to come back to.
I strongly encourage reading Koush's thread, you can find it here.
His installation instructions have more detail:
Installation instructions:
1.Download ROM Manager from the Market.
2.Flash Recovery.
3.Choose Vibrant as your phone.
4.Accept the Superuser prompt.
5.On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
6.Watch the backup go!
Click to collapse
The thing is when I try to reboot into Clockwork it still looks the same, nothing happens when i tell Rom Manager to backup, it just restarts to what looks like the original recovery screen. It looks something like this..
Android system recovery <2e>
Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -
Vol Up - up
Vol Down - down
Power - Selec item
Reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data

Since this is my first flash I might just be overly paranoid but if this is not right I dont want to mess up my brand new phone by just plowing ahead without being sure.
Thanks for any help... yet again.
Try selecting reinstall packages. And then again a second time.
Tap volume down then push lock/power to select.
Try reinstalling packages.

OK, so something has gone wrong. At first I thought it was all ok but now the more apps i try to open the more nothing seems to work. Going to try to go back to stock and see if i can start over but I cant seem to get this phone to go to the clockwork recovery menu. Every time i restart the phone and hold the keys it still boots like normal. guess its time for more research.

Apps don't work probably because you did not do a correct wipe when you flashed. Try: Wipe Data/Factory Reset - then Flash the ROM - then Wipe cache - then go to advanced and wipe Devil Cache - then Fix permissions from the same menu, go back and reboot.

@ferhanmm: I did get bionix on but it was acting very flaky, system ended up getting stuck in what i thought was a brick but someone in my other thread helped me get it working again and now i have a fully working trigger rom.
Everything is up and going again now I would like to get a theme for it, but really the only thing i dont like is all the green icons. About to do some research and see if I can just replace icons somehow.
Hey
I just got a update OTA however if I check i still have 2.1 JI6 Eclair
I dont kno what that update was but i kno alot of people have Froyo
I want to flash a rom .. but do i need froyo to use bionix v by team whiskey?
since i have eclair i have to use the bionix for 2.1 or update to Froyo right??
How would I update to Froyo.
No, it's actually better that you don't have stock Froyo on you, you can flash any 2.2 ROM straight from Eclair.
which kernel should i get with it?
ka7 with voodoo..
i want the voodoo and rom to optimize productivity
Go with [ROM] Trigger, I've been on it for a few weeks now and by far the most stable and reliable ROM I have tried, the latest is blazing fast + I added Over Stock to it and now my phone wants to fly off my hands.
Download RomManager from market and flash your recovery, you'll see the option.
Then flash the rom thru recovery and you are a happy camper.
Oh, yes, it comes with Voodoo as you wished.
Sorry, forgot the link:

well i have titanium backup set with everything backedup
but if i use trigger applying those setting would be dumb?
sry newb , ive been tryin to research for awhile
nm dumb question i think
i will have it and have my settings
You don't want to load any setting that you backed up from a different ROM, it will conflict the new one. When you flash, use these procedures to grant you a clean flash:
Download ...........zip and place on your sdcard
Boot into recovery and Wipe Data/Factory Reset Before You Move On
Flash .................zip
While still in recovery: Wipe Cache Partition, and inside the advanced menu: Wipe Dalvik Cache and Fix Permissions - Do Not Factory Reset Again
Reboot
After about 10 minutes, you should reboot again.
Done!

You just make a batch in TB. So in TB just go menu>settings>batch> then RUN the batch the says "Backup all user apps". Devs only recommend you don't restore system data. User apps or third party apps are ok, atleast I do everytime.

I have MIUI on my phone, but I don't really want it anymore. Is there any way that I can get my phone back to how it was?
Wipe and flash a new ROM. If you need to ask how, don't. It sounds like you need to do some serious reading first.
If you've managed to root, wipe, and flash MIUI, you should be capable for re-wiping and flashing something else.

Maybe he/she bought the phone with it that way. In which case, do nothing until you read read read.
They are right. You need to read for your own good.
That said, do you have a custom recovery? I would assume so. Before you do anything, make a backup in recovery.
Next, go to the development section for this device and find a ROM you really like. Learn about the differences between AOSP, Sense, and MIUI ROMs.
When you have chosen and downloaded a ROM, reboot into recovery again. Wipe cache, system, boot, and data partitions. Finally do a wipe data/factory reset. At this point all you have on your device are the bootloader and recovery.
Go to install zip from SD card and search for the ROM you downloaded. Install it. Reboot and wait. First boot always takes longer.
If boot is unsuccessful, boot back into recovery, wipe, and flash the backup you made.
Understand that I am merely trying to be helpful. I make no guarantees, but wrote these instructions to be nice. If your phone bricks, bursts into flames or implodes and creates a singularity that engulfs the planet, I am in no way responsible.
Got it?

Install new ROM via CWM. it's easy, just try. I think VU 2.39 is the best choice for you.

Yes. I just went from MIUI to Febs ICS beta 5.0.
I downloaded the ICS beta (you can pick whatever ROM you want from the Android mytouch dev section). Mounted my phone for USB storage, transferred the ICS Beta.zip to the phone then unmounted it.
Then in MIUI when you hold the power button down, it should give you the option to reboot into recovery or you can use ClockworkMod to do it.
I did option A) rebooted into recovery through power off feature in the MIUI. Then you go down to backup, make a backup. Then you wipe cache and wipe data. Go to advanced and I believe you can wipe dalvik(sp?) cache under the advanced setting.
Then you go to install from sdcard and then scroll down to your zip.file.
Then boom let it install. then when it says install complete you press the back button, click reboot and BAM you will be off MIUI and on whatever ROM you chose.
I would take everyone's advice on here to go read everything you can. I made this post hoping you have some knowledge of flashing and all that jazz. Let me know if you need any help.
What were you running before MIUI?
