Hi all,
I have strange bug on my V20 (H990ds), which drives me nuts.
The phone otherwise is snappy and fast, but if I am in a "Phone" app "Call logs" if I press to open a contact, I sometimes have to wait up to 10 sec for it to actually open.
I need to open a contact to send them a text message.
Of course it is a separate story (and major design blunder) that I can only call a contact from the "Call logs" and there is no shortcut to send a message to that contact.
Any ideas what may be causing this?
Anyone? I am desperate to resolve this problem.
You could have wayyyyy to many contacts and that could be lagging the app. You could either try deleting ones you dont talk to/know anymore or try clearing cache in settings < storage < internel < double click cache and wipe it. Thats really the only thing that I could think of that would make it lag. Why dont you just use the messaging app to message them? If you really want to see if this helps, backup your phone and format it. If you are rooted, just wipe data in TWRP, dont format via settings.

I have found that the more messages I have in my in/out boxes for text messages, the more frequently I have to do a soft reset because WM froze. So, I periodically clear my boxes. However, I reciently got a replacement phone because of a bluetooth issue. Now, with the new phone, I cant get the messages to really delete. I have tried "Clear Text Messages," manually deleting the txts then deleting again from the deleted box, and using the "Empty Deleted Items." Each time the texts disapear, but when I do a soft reset, they return. WTF??
The phone is a stock Verizon VX6800 with no custom ROMs/Radios/etc. The only aftermarket software I have installed yet is ThemeMaster to switch my themes.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Anyone know what's going on with this?
Only thing I have to suggest is before you reset the device, make sure your text message app is shut off. Typically you'll lose new texts and such when you don't, works the same for everything deleted. Or just use the power button to shut it off. I heard it turns off everything for you when you do that.

I think this is a lot of poo myself. What does it matter if a message is setting in a file with no activity.
But yes, as mentioned, try shutting down your messaging in the running programs after you delete them. Then reset it.
Hello i have a strange problem, suddenly my messages field on today is gone and i cant access it from anywhere it wont start when i press the message button either. Does someone know what can be done to fix it?

Try doing a reset.
I have tried that and i get it back but when i restore my backup i lose it again
I would say that your mailbox is corrupt and as soon as the today plugin for the messages tries to open it to see if there are any unread messages, it wil crash.
The same happens to your messaging software.
I would make a new backup without the mailbox (no idea how to do that) and then do a reset - or - I would try to delete the INBOXxyz folders on your storage card. You have one for each account. Just try to delete like one at a time. With luck you find out the one with teh corrupt messages.
Good luck!
Cheers,
vma
I wanted to try it out because I was curious but I dont like it and want the Sprint voice mail back. And because I now downloaded it I am not receiving my texts or mms messages. I tried to remove it through the market and through managing application but it wont let me delete the damn thing how do I get rid of this. I just flashed EVio 3 last night so I am wiping Cache and Dalvik Cache as well as a Factory reset then I am going to re flash it. I hope this works.
When you uninstall it, it will revert to stock settings for your texts and voicemail. If you cant delete it through the market, try going to settings-applications-manage and remove it from there. If that doesnt work, try clearing data and cache from the Market from the Manage Applications menu, then restart and try again.

I did that and I still can un install it and I am having people text me and I am not getting them.
EDIT: I went to google voice online and disabled the account and I can now get texts and mms but now I dont have any sort of voice mail option now the phone will just keep ringing and ringing and never go to voice mail. I called my voice mail and all i get is a busy dial tone so I cant set up my sprint voice mail anymore. I dont know what going on anymore. I even posted my problem on sprints forum, looks like this isnt only happening to me. I went in again to recovery and wiped both cache to see if will do something.

Goto menu, settings, call, and see if you have a voicemail service option. Select my carrier if it's there.

I tried that and selected my carrier but I still have the same issue when I call my voice mail its a busy dial tone not sure what else will fix this
EDIT: I CALLED SPRINT CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND THEY RESOLVED THE ISSUE FOR ME
You can probably just call sprint. A simple reprovisioning of your voicemail can fix this.
If your voicemail is not picking up after unisntallung just call reckless support. Basically they have to remove voicemail and add it back on and it will start working again. I see this happen all the time.

it said "do u want to send? YES NO" and bellow there was an option like "always remember".
i wanted to press YES and always remeber, but i accidentaly pressed NO and "always remember".

its not an ISP issue as when i try the same SIM to another phone, it sends it without problems...

I had the same issue and I had to factory reset because I couldn't find it anywhere. Very fristra5

I am having the same issue. This is absolute garbage that this cannot be reset. I do not want to hard reset my phone to fix this. It takes me hours to get all my apps back in place and everything logged in. If Samsung's back up saved where my apps go and how I like things customized I'd be a little more reluctant. There has to be somewhere in the phone to fix this Short code texting.
People with high Wi-Fi drain try this:
Backup and Reset -> Reset Network Settings
This will only reset WiFi password and Bluetooth and it did had a positive impact for me.
Not sure what Wifi drain has to do with this topic...
Default app manager pro can clear default apps and bring back the open with menu. Pretty sure the lite version can do this too.
Nope no defaults set anywhere
Has anyone found a solution except for factory reset?
Just curious what's premium SMS? Compared to a regular SMS?

It's an sms sent to a phone number to approve a charge. Kinda like a 900 call.
I was replying to something like a redbox message - STOP, HELP, YES. Since I accidently hit "no", whenever I respond, the message FAILS

Still not working
None of these solutions work. I've ready that it's a marshmellow thing.
Can't you just long press the messaging app from the app drawer and go to app info and clear data and cache to reset it?

You could try settings > application manager > more > reset app preferences
Try this:
Settings > Application Manager > Find the app (most likely it would be Messages > Storage > Let it compute (which can take some time) > then CLEAR DATA. This might delete all your texts though (not 100% sure since I haven't tried)
Go to Settings / Applications / App Manager, scroll to the SMS app (Messages is the default SMS app), tap the app, tap Set as default, tap Clear Defaults.
That should do it. This is how you clear defaults for every app.
I just did the same thing. I bought my S7 today. But there is no premium sms setting in the phone. And I do not want to reset my phone. I gave my 3 hours for it
Any chance that this is under App Permissions? Ir simply install Google Messenger.
If I receive a text message, I get a notification in the top bar. If i receive a second text the notification disappears from the top bar and I have no way of knowing that I have messages until I open the app. This is extremely frustrating especially since I am away from my phone often at work.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Sounds like an app causing a conflict... does it do it in Safe Mode?
To enter Safe Mode, press power until the Shutdown confirmation pops up, then long press the notification and acknowledge Safe Mode... the next boot will not load any user applications in memory, just basic Android services, test it there and see if it is still a problem, if not you have an app that is conflicting, if it is still there I would try a factory reset and test again.
It does not occur in safe mode. How would I go about figuring out which app is causing the conflict

This is a carrier SMS (text message) issue? Remove any app you can that deals with SMS or texting except the stock app, that is where I would start. Or any app that monitors notifications. Unfortunately, this is a trial and error process. Do you have a lot of apps installed?
Either that or factory reset, then add apps one at a time until it breaks.
Yes, unfortunately, I do have a lot of apps installed. How would I go about seeing what apps deal with notifications or SMS. Thanks

Honestly, I don't know... Do you have lots of texting apps?
Just whatsapp
Any other ideas anyone ? It is extremely frustrating.
Test to see if WhatsApp is your conflict. Uninstall it long enough to see if it is the culprit. If it is and you want to keep using it, I don't know how to fix it, but at least you know more precisely where to start.
It is not WhatsApp causing the issue. Any other ideas ? I'm surprised no one else has had this issue. It is extremely frustrating.
I am still having this problem. I also get "unfortunately messaging has stopped." When receiving messages from one particular contact.
There are other apps that can do texting and act as a messaging app...I.e Facebook messenger, Hangouts, Skype, etc. The are also apps with access to messaging which you can find on permissions. As stated by acejavelin, you will have to start doing trial and error as this appears to be an app conflict if safe mode works. The easiest first step is to deny permissions to messaging and see if you can find the culprit.
Are you rooted by chance? I'm not asking you to root if you are not and I'm not claiming root is the issue. Try denying messaging app permissions first one by one. You can find this in Settings, Apps, tap the gear icon in top right, App permissions, SMS. If toggling one doesn't fix the issue, toggle the next one off. Just make sure to leave the stock messaging app on. If the text notifications problem persists, report back.
I'm not rooted. I am going to try this today. Thank you.
So I tried this and went through each app and denied permission of SMS to each one, one by one. The same thing happened everytime no matter what.

Denying permissions was an idea to try and make as painless as possible. The only options left for you to try are the most painful. However, as was asked once already, could this be something to do with your carrier (or your friends). While you could start uninstalling apps one by one, I would recommend doing a factory reset and start fresh when prompted (don't let Google automatically restore your apps). If upon a fresh install and update of system apps your message notifications don't work correctly, then it is a carrier issue most likely which you would need to take up with them. If message notifications work properly, then start installing apps one by one and testing as you go. Whether you uninstall or install one by one, it is not a quick process, but with a factory reset, you get a refreshed phone.
