Hi,
I'm looking for a way to create a shortcut on the homescreen. A shortcut which opens the multi window tray (not the floating multi window tray you open with the S-pen, but the one on the side).
I know long pressing the back-key does that, but that doesn't work in certain apps (like text editor apps where it actually goes to the previous screen, or the standard video player where it just doesn't open).
Once I have that shortcut I can map it to a button so I can get the multi window tray open everytime I want to.
Does anyone has any idea how to do that?
Thanks!
Try QuickShortcutMaker app.

There's no option in that app to make such a shortcut I'm afraid.
I don't think it's possible, but I could be wrong. Have you tried using a custom ROM? There's support for double pressing the power button (or any other button) to open another app in multi window and it works flawless. I use it on Phronesis Note 7 port, works really well.

No I haven't tried a custom ROM, I prefer to stick with the stock ROM. But I know what you mean. That is also something you can do with the stock ROM with MW Manager. But it's not that what I'm looking for.
Anyone?

Hi all,
I have changed from the touchflo interface to the standard interface, seems a lot smoother to me (and i like the look) but is there a way to remove all the htc sense apps that are no longer in use?
Or is there a standard Android rom for the Hero?
Cheers
If I just wanted to see what the standard interface looked like, how would I do this?

Normal Android Home On Hero
Here's what to do...
Go to Settings - Applications - Manage Applications.
Scroll down to 'TouchFLO' and hit 'clear defaults'
Obviously this will clear the default action of taking you to the TouchFLO or Rosie UI home.
When you have done this every time you press the home button you will have a choice. Home or TouchFLO.
Now how can you put it (TouchFlow) back to default ?
If I don't want to have the popup when i click the home button ?
Ticking the "make default action" doesn't work for long

To switch back to TouchFLO do the same like in the first procedure but instead of TouchFLO, select the 'Home' app.
Getting the selection screen often is a bug caused by some apps (like task managers etc). Try uninstalling some and re-check.
Good morning all,
I feel so stupid for asking this, but the menu button does not seem to work the way my other androids did in the past. Is there a function that I need to turn on or something? Thanks

Not sure if this is launcher specific but I'm using Nova Prime and if you long press the menu button, then the original menu items pop up instead of recent apps. I never test with TW launcher. Discovered this later. But this way you don't have to remap with gravity box.

I'm not even sure what gravitybox even is. I tried to see if it was in the app storre. someone else in the thread recommended to do so....
FYI - the layout used in the S5 is the standard Android button layout and you will see fewer and fewer devices using a dedicated menu button, as there's no need for it in Android 4.x+

Gravity BOX is a module that is installed after you first use Xposed Installer. Google this or look it up in a search here on XDA.
I flashed Lollipop 5.0.2 and GAPPS 5.0.1 onto my SM-N9005 the other day, however I can't access the app switcher. It used to be hold the home button, but now everything I've read said there should be a square symbol for accessing it where the back arrow is. My settings and back arrow are the same as they were on KitKat.
I tried installing an app switcher from the play store, but it always said that there were no apps running, even when I was in an app (and yes, I tried rebooting after installing it). I've spent hours searching for this and can't find anyone else having a similar problem. Can someone please help me get to the app switcher?
App switcher or recent apps panel comes up by holding home button

Not for me it doesn't. I've held it down for as long as 10 seconds and nothing happens. As soon as I release the home button it takes me to my home page. Makes me think that it's not installed or running properly. Is there a apk I can install?

Try all in one gestures in playstore
So i guess it's a CM12, aosp, whatever based rom.
It definitely has a "Button configuration setting" in the rom settings. Did you even look ?
The square simbol you are mentioning is there when you enable the soft keys (navigation bar) and acts like the recent apps switcher.
But the hardware buttons should work too, if you configure them right.

I'm using the Dirty Unicorn rom, I didn't realise you could change the button configurations. I looked through all the standard settings, didn't think to look in the dirty tweaks section. Thanks for your help
Is there a way to see recently launched apps and switch between them?
This function should be definitely included in default system. So useful!
Can't test it now but try it with long pressing the home button

Ok, didn't know. Thank you
I had the same idea but did not work lol.
I am not sure what you are looking for exactly, but the list of apps on the original launcher is always reorganized to show the most recently used apps first. Or are you using a different launcher?
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
The best way of doing this is with LMT Launcher using it's Pie feature. Install it, and set up an item as Activity -> System UI -> com.android.systemui.recent.RecentsActivity. This gives you the recent apps, which is normally non-accessible on the shield. You can then add a few others as you see fit. I've added the power menu for example, which gives you the full power off, reboot and sleep options. Not found that anywhere else. All works best with a mouse, so you're best using an alternative launcher like HALauncher. But I suspect most people are doing that anyway given how restricted and awful Leanback is.
It can be downloaded here.
this is like the third or fourth thread about this
We all know Xiaomi doesn't let us use multiwindow on its MIUI though its an android nougat feature. However there's a nifty trick to activate this feature on any nougat MIUI device including our Mi 5.
Note that this works on nougat based MIUI only.
First download the app called Button Mapper. You need the pro version.
Playstore link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Open the app and give permission for services.
Go back to the app and click the 'Menu' button. On top activate customisation. Click on long press. Scroll down and select Split screen.
Your device is now ready to use splitscreen or multiwindow feature. Open an app. Press and hold the menu or recents button. Slide your finger from the extreme bottom of the screen to slide the window up. Now you can open and run another app simultaneously. When using two apps at a time, press the outline separating the windows for a few options.
Make sure to allow the app to autostart in Security>Permissions>Autostart.
Not all apps are supported by default but you can do it by enabling force activities to be resizable from developer settings. And this won't always work like you intend. You may face a few bugs.

Just got news that miui is bringing multiwindow in miui 8. The alpha builds will get it first. Quick reoly is probably a long way to go, sadly.
Thank you
The quick reply is really much important and useful then the multitasking window , I hope someone here can find a workaround or an app that can do this without rooting , I have tried some floating apps like notifly but all doesn't provide any thing near the native quick reply feature

Havent looked into it. This is probably because the app alters input of the device. Does three finger screenshot stop working when using two windows at a time or just after configuring anything within the app?

Just after configuring anything within the app ? I think once you grant accessibility access it tottaly stop working in all cases
