We all know Xiaomi doesn't let us use multiwindow on its MIUI though its an android nougat feature. However there's a nifty trick to activate this feature on any nougat MIUI device including our Mi 5.
Note that this works on nougat based MIUI only.
First download the app called Button Mapper. You need the pro version.
Playstore link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Open the app and give permission for services.
Go back to the app and click the 'Menu' button. On top activate customisation. Click on long press. Scroll down and select Split screen.
Your device is now ready to use splitscreen or multiwindow feature. Open an app. Press and hold the menu or recents button. Slide your finger from the extreme bottom of the screen to slide the window up. Now you can open and run another app simultaneously. When using two apps at a time, press the outline separating the windows for a few options.
Make sure to allow the app to autostart in Security>Permissions>Autostart.
Not all apps are supported by default but you can do it by enabling force activities to be resizable from developer settings. And this won't always work like you intend. You may face a few bugs.

Just got news that miui is bringing multiwindow in miui 8. The alpha builds will get it first. Quick reoly is probably a long way to go, sadly.
Thank you
The quick reply is really much important and useful then the multitasking window , I hope someone here can find a workaround or an app that can do this without rooting , I have tried some floating apps like notifly but all doesn't provide any thing near the native quick reply feature

Havent looked into it. This is probably because the app alters input of the device. Does three finger screenshot stop working when using two windows at a time or just after configuring anything within the app?

Hey, i just saw that the Huawei Ascend D2 has on-screen buttons that you can hide easy and pop it up again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH4Zt9lP23c(it's from 0:55) and just wondering if anybody could make something like that for the nexus 4?
There are a few ways to do it i believe. If you have a root a few apps will let you do it. Also AOKP has options to change it, as far as without root I'm not sure as I didn't try before i rooted my device. One of the things I have set is using Gesture Control I made swiping gestures from the area where the buttons would have been instead of having the buttons. I think it looks a lot better and for me works just as well.
download a custom rom such as cm10.1 to get this feature.
AOKP CM10.1 and PA all support this in the power menu.
Yes i know about the extended desktop, and i use it all the time. But i were thinking about a button on the soft-keys and a gesture to enable and disable it.

pa has per app expand. meaning you define app you like to jump into this and that mode and they will. if they have a quit button your bars will come back automatically.
there are apps out there can can do that with gestures. three finger gesture or whatever - not sure if they can hide the navigationbar because that would need framework changes afaik. we're working on something like that actually, its not yet 100% ready though.

as the title says - how to enable double tap to sleep (screen off) using gestures in Nova Launcher prime?
i know it has something to do with assigning an activity via Nova Launcher gestures, but i can't find any activity that relates to screen off or sleep...
any help is appreciated...
note:
i know how to do this using an extra app "Screen Off and Lock", but i just wanted to know is there a posibility to avoid any extra apps to achieve the same thing...
Download Turn Off Screen from play store and assign it to Double Tap on Nova launcher in Gesture Settings.

i think you posted this in the same time i was writing the "note" part in my post
I think not. If i remember, it worked well without 3rd party app, but now it is "disabled". Anyway, here is another guide:
"The Nova Launcher option
Another app that functions very similarly to the way you’d use Apex Launcher is*Nova Launcher. The same as you did for the first method, you will only be able to use this one if you also installed Greenify on the device. Therefore, you should go to the Google Play store and look for these two tools and install them.
Whenever you’re ready, check the steps below:
Open Nova Launcher and go to its Settings.Click on Gestures and Buttons and scroll down to Gestures.Select Double Tap and wait for the Choose Action menu to load.Go to Shortcuts, and then click on Hibernate and Lock Screen.
You may have noticed before that selecting the right settings in the first application is going to automatically send you to the second app you need to use. In this case,*Greenify will open*a new discussion and ask you to authorize Nova to use your screen.
You should go under the Automator and click on Allow Greenfy, and then confirm this option by pressing Activate. You’re now good to go and can test if the display is working properly by double tapping to send it to sleep."

thanks, but i don't use greenify and this guide is more complicated than "nova + screen off&lock" option which i already use...
Easy, you don't need to use a 3rd party app. Just doubletap the status bar to sleep
You can do this in every app, whenever you want to sleep just double tap status bar

i know that but it's not confortable enough...
i even had double tap navbar to sleep (g3twb) which worked well until i started using 5 buttons navbar making it harder to hit the blank area...
It looks like you may need first of all nova launcher prime, after that , you may need greenify as well. Here is what i did and it works.
1 . Go to Nova settings>gestures and input>double tap
2 . swipe right to the shortcuts tab and then go down you may find "hibernate + lockscreen"
3 . Assign it and it works!
double tap to sleep is working for me.
hope this helps.

But what is the problem with having another app installed? Its size is ridiculous and it solves your problem, and always you can hide if u dont want to see it.

From the apps that I have Tasker and GravityBox can do screen off/sleep. And if you are using them already that doesn't count as an extra app, right?
Just realized this myself, one less app in my phone. I think I will go with tasker since I already run a lot of stuff with it.

Oh man, you should try tasker. It's what puts SMART in smartphone. Was messing around today with it. I found an old buss ticket that can work as nfc tag and put it on my phone holder on bicycle. I have set it to trigger launching Strava app, turning on GPS, setting brightness to max and forcing landscape mode for that app. And when I exit app, BAM, it reverts everything back the way it was. It's like slide and click instead of multiple actions. Might be overly excited about it right now, and definitely off topic here, but had to mention it hehe. I hope you will find a way to use that gesture the way you want, everything is possible on android

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly, but the list of apps on the original launcher is always reorganized to show the most recently used apps first. Or are you using a different launcher?
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
The best way of doing this is with LMT Launcher using it's Pie feature. Install it, and set up an item as Activity -> System UI -> com.android.systemui.recent.RecentsActivity. This gives you the recent apps, which is normally non-accessible on the shield. You can then add a few others as you see fit. I've added the power menu for example, which gives you the full power off, reboot and sleep options. Not found that anywhere else. All works best with a mouse, so you're best using an alternative launcher like HALauncher. But I suspect most people are doing that anyway given how restricted and awful Leanback is.
It can be downloaded here.

Some parts are, I am unable to do things like remap buttons etc and it crashes if you try to do any quick management editing (which is to be expected). On the plus side, the developer has just ordered the 3t and is planning on making a full;y comparable version for us

That's right. But I still have to wait to have device in my hands as it's currently hard for me to assess what it will take and whether it is worth to work on Marshmallow version considering 3T is receiving Nougat in couple of weeks, which seems to be quite different (hopefully more AOSPish) compared to OOS 3.5.
The only one I seem to find a use for is "Ringer and notification unlink" so that I can separately set notification levels. It adds the slider with the others in settings/sound.

a must have is "app settings 1.13" for the simple reason you can change orientation, dpi, keep on, and much more on any app

If the Bixby button is bothering you, I present an alternative method for remapping it to whatever you want using Button Mapper. On the Note 9 specifically, there are some differences in the way Button Mapper works compared to other Bixby remappers. I am the developer of this app and intentionally made it work differently so you have a choice. Button Mapper version 0.75 or later is required for the Note 9, check links at bottom of post.
Please note that if you have rooted your Note 9, Button Mapper allows single, double and long press native Bixby remapping that works perfectly with no limitations whatsoever.
Advantages:
-Bixby never appears, it can be completely disabled and remapping still works
-Single press and long press actions available
-native remapping, meaning it's faster. No polling involved, it reacts to the button press input event
-far more actions and features available than other remapping apps
Disadvantage:
-must run adb shell command after every boot
The disadvantage is not that bad, because you don't need to restart your device very often. I often let my phones run for weeks without reboot.
Please don't complain about having to do the adb command after every boot. I'm simply presenting this as an alternative method for interested users who would like to put in a little extra effort to get a better experience. If this is not for you, just move on and use something else.
Button Mapper is free on Google Play or XDA Labs (version 0.75 or later is required for Note 9 support)
XDA Labs (latest version always available)
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/flar2.homebutton
Google Play (version with Note 9 support may not be available yet)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
I almost never reboot my device unless I have something to flash. I am very familiar with debloating my devices via ADB. I will give it a try. Thank you for offering a way for non-root users to remap the Bixby button.
This is the best app for remapping the Bixby button to something useful. Works perfectly on my Note 9 even with Bixby 2.0. People shouldn't even bother with any other app.
It takes a 30-second ADB session and you're all set. No lag, no Bixby popups. The only niggle is it needs to be restarted every reboot but that's not a big deal.
I've used BXActions but I prefer this a whole lot more. Just a cleaner experience.
Whoa.. thanks man.
This is just like I remapped the button on my rooted S8. Cant wait to try it.
I have a question though. Is it possible to run the adb from within the phone itself? I know theres a terminal app, but I believe it needs root? I can't remember.
Thanks.
Not sure what I did wrong. I was able to remap both the single press and long press, but it does the customized action as well as launch Bixby voice at the same time.
I'm happy with just disabling Bixby voice really. My device is not rooted.
Edit: Just figured out what I missed. I forgot to add "-d" to the adb command to disable Bixby assistant. Now it works perfectly. Sorry for being a dumbass. lol

Thanks flar2!! I really appreciate all of the work that you do. This is my 3rd app that I've purchased from you, and it won't be the last! I was using bxActions, but that app pales in comparison to this button mapper. I'm just glad I stumbled across this thread. Button Mapper Pro has made my Note 9 complete, thanks again for everything you do. I look forward to what ever is next.
Hi @flar2,
In note 9, there's a system default option to control media volume using the vol buttons. See attached pic.
But when I enable vol buttons on the mapper, it results to controlling the ringtone. And even if the toggle is on for the media control, the app still overrides the action.
I see there's a pro setting to gain back the media volume.

Bixby works with the screen off by default
After using bxactions for a few days, I decided to try this app instead, and it works ALOT better! Thank you OP.
I almost never reboot my phones, so the adb thing is no big deal for me.
As much as I like bxActions, I even ended up buying the pro version, I can't help but say this just works better. I made the adb command into a batch file that I can just double click so that's not much of an issue, but I do have a couple questions/requests:
Is it normal for double tap to be greyed out? Can you add an immersive toggle to the list of available commands?
One thing I liked about bxActions is the ability to change what the button does while locked/lockscreen vs unlocked, is it possible to implement that here too?
Thanks!

Hey there, using this app on my Note 9 instead of bxActions. I can say its working much better but Im missing a few features. Is it possible to have a Sound/Vibrate Toggle like bxActions without going though DND mode, like on IOS? A fullscreen mode toggle action would also be really useful.
Also having different actions for buttonpresses while locked vs. unlocked would be great. Thank you!
