Service centre after relocking - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Has anyone visited any service centre after voiding warranty and relocking bootloader to avail free service.
Did they checked for any serial number or bootloader status???

Several people did it and the SC don't care about bootloader status. But it depends to which SC you go or if they care about it. There's no proof way. You need to try it.

If the issue looks software related, they will sometimes check.
If it's a common issue such as ghost touches or the hardware/LCD itself has failed, then they will take it.

Today I visited service centre in order to query about bad battery back-up. They checked there systems and told that my warranty is void cause of unlocked bootloader and it will cost 6k+ to change motherboard or 3k+ to replace battery only.

My first question.. Since it's almost five months now ..
Is there a single case of phone being sent to warranty.. AFAIK I haven't heard on any such cases..
Barring the few first day faults like dead pixel ,speaker distortion
I mean had anybody run across I problem after using for some period

My vibrate motor went out, got an RMA for warranty repair. They said they were sending me a "loaner" within 10 days. Got a bit nervous of what they might send me but received package 2 days later which turned out to be a brand new phone. Sent broke phone back with their prepaid package and got an email three days later they received it and let them know if I had any problems with the "replacement". If your dead set on getting your exact phone back I suggest you ask when submitting your repair request. More than happy with my experience.

Has any one got their battery replaced under warranty?
On a different note I find a bit scary to leave our phones with so much Private data under the hands of service centers. On the other hand there's not much option other than to delete your data.

My Vibrator went bad. I have flashed lot of custom roms to check, but still the issue persisted..
So, i flashed the stock rom, recovery and locked the bootloader and gave it to a service center. The rom was like stock, but if they verify against motorola website, then they can figure out that i have requested bootloader unlock key. Anyway, They have accepted it and given a challan
Will update in case of any issue with warranty due to unlocked bootloader..
Location: Mumbai, India
Country: Italy
Reason: there were some dead pixels
Bootloader Status: Unlocked
I used Amazon's warrenty, but this can help...

Unlocked Bootloader Voided Warrenty

I was pretty sure that unlocking the bootloader would NOT void the warrenty. I was however wrong. A few weeks ago I sent in my Nexus 6P for repair since it could not make or recivie phones calls since the day I bought it.
Today I got it back with a note saying the Warranty is now void because of the unlocked bootloader. Not only that they put my IMEI for blacklisting from all Huawei repair centers.
I thought it was well known that you would be safe if you unlocked your bootloader?
They also stated that unlocking the bootloader corrupts and tampers with the mainboard and as a result the device is beyond repair.
Who in the world do I contact about this? This is a huge issue people need to know about.
I was under the impression that nearly everyone LOCKS their bootloader before sending it in for repair.
I guess it's not possible in every situation, and I guess Huawei says no dice if it is unlocked. (I cant tell if this was sent to Google or Huawei, but assume Huawei)
Pretty crappy

Yes normally I would have relocked it but I had forgot. Sent to Huawei as Google doesn't do repairs. Still the option to unlock the bootloader is built INTO the phone! It's there as option on every stock Nexus 6P.
It's as dumb as saying launching the stock SMS app voids your warranty.
EDIT: So I've called 4 Huawei reps and 2 of them didn't know if unlocking the bootloader voided the warranty and 2 thought unlocking the bootloader was rooting the device.
On the website is a very very vague warrenty.

This could be anything. Changing the brightness settings modifies the device to display a lower or higher brightness. Where does it start and stop since unlocking the bootloader is available as a stock option with no external tools needed.
Nexus always void warranty. We all know it. Then why did you send the phone without relocking the bootloader. You made it now you suffer. I feel sorry for you.

It's nothing at all like saying launching the stock sms app voids your warranty. That's a terrible analogy. Launching the stock sms app doesn't allow you to alter the normal operation of device and flash different partitions with custom software (which may damage the device). And no, the information on their site could not mean anything. It says improper, changing the brightness would very obviously not be improper modification. It's very clear what they mean.
Anyway, it looks as though the issue here is with Huawei, as Google have no issues with the bootloader being unlocked. You really should have locked it before sending it back anyway though, that's standard procedure.

I accept that. Well I guess I'm stuck then. Lesson to everyone that sending in a device with the bootloader switch in the developer options switched to ON will void your warranty. Stupid mistake but still a stupid reason for rejecting to repair a device that has a manufacturing defect. Always turn that puppy to off.
EDIT: Just wanted to point out that the switch in Dev options is reboot and reset surviving.
That sucks. I remember when my Nexus 7 just straight up died one day and I had to send it in for repair. Since it died and was unusable, I was unable to re-lock the bootloader. When I called support, I told them that "no, I had not rooted or tampered with the device". It all worked out and I got a new one. In your case, you definitely should have locked that bootloader...but really, that's pretty effed up for them to deny warranty on what sounds like a hardware issue. That said, why did you unlock and mod your device that didn't EVER work?
Unless you bought your phone from Huawei directly your warranty is not with them. If you bought from Google Play Store just sort out a return with them - my experience is that they don't ask too many questions. Lock your bootloader this time! If elsewhere (Amazon, Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy) then speak to them.
That sucks OP. Did you try a factory reset to fix your call issue? maybe if you can fix it you wont need to send it in for repairs.
That's messed. Just had my phone battery replaced under warranty from an authorized huawei repair center. My carrier sent it out for me, bootloader was unlocked and had custom recovery flashed. Didn't phase them, they just reflashed stock image replaced battery and sent it back to me, no issues. In fact, the bootloader setting came back set to unlockable by default! Can't believe you were treated this way, I'm truly sorry for you. Also, heads up, I work at best buy (the phone department) and I can guarantee you Best Buy does not handle the warranty claims for these devices, or smartphones we sell. Go to carrier or call manufacturer. (Canadian Best Buy policy)

If you are in the US that violates the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
In the US, "THEY" must prove that what you did caused the issue before they can void the warranty.
OP - Are you in the US?
Well a "good news everyone" update.
While the NA Huawei team treated me like garbage over the issue I contacted my Cell Provider and they just sent me a brand spanking new phone on the condition I send mine to them. Very surprised this happened. Thought I was up **** creek.
Turns out they are going to send it back to Huawei themselves and get a refund. :good:

I tried everything. Even attempted every single factory image too. Sending it in is a last resort.

Warranty Exchange

I inadvertently zeroed out my LAF and BOOT partitions at the same time, as some of you know, which left my G6 only able to boot to fastboot (crippled) and stock recovery (useless). I felt I had nothing to lose so I sent it in for warranty repair.
LG repaired the phone free of charge, and deemed the problem "software failure", which is pretty cool considering the warranty was technically void, as I had unlocked the bootloader.
I find it interesting that they simply performed a software download onto the device, as download mode (resides in LAF) was toasted.
It shipped back to me today; I should receive it Monday or Tuesday. I'm anxious to see if the bootloader still shows that it has been unlocked (pretty sure it will, as I assume some type of qfuse is used for the counter).
I have read many negative reviews of LG's warranty service... I'm happy with them, but it could be that I was lucky enough to get a good technician.
More to come...
Wow, pretty cool of them!

They did that same process to me a few times when i bricked my G4. They are definitely trying to provide great customer service and gain a better reputation.
Glad they didn't tell you your warranty was void.
Now all we need is the software and the process they used! Hahaha

My friend got his G4 and V20 fixed under warranty without a problem. The G4 bootlooped. He told LG he bought the phone used from Swappa. They fixed it anyway. They also fixed his V20 after he dropped the phone and the volume down button stopped working. I hope to have a similarly positive experience if I ever need to make a warranty claim.
I received the phone today. I'm pretty sure they had to disassemble it to repair it, but it may be standard for them to take a look inside of every phone they repair.

When my G4 was labeled as a software failure they replaced the board completely. Which I found odd.
But new ports! I was happy with it though. Still am.
I'm pretty sure it is standard. They probably check foe damage and heating issues. Maybe do some cleaning.
You'd know if your board was different of we had a working version of TWRP...

LG won't fix my bootlooped G4 under warranty

It finally happened to me. G4 H 811Stock LG MM, never rooted only SIM unlocked. I sent it in for repair and a week later i got a voicemail from LG. They say my phone is not fixable, because it's a aftermarket alteration and this voids my warranty. What does that even mean? I bought it used in excellent condition last May from Ebay. I did run the LG info app and came up as original. Now they want me to pay $22 for the diagnosis if i want it back. I told them to keep it and I won't pay nothing for a bricked phone. I think they are trying to eliminate as many G4s as they can, and won't even honor their warranty. I'm very disappointed with LG.

Call them again. Ask for a supervisor. Submit it to the BBB if you're in the US and tell them you will be doing that.

I thought about taking a picture of the motherboard before i sent it in for repair but i didn't want to tamper with it. The phone can't even go to fastboot so the only way to tell is by the numbers on the MB. Maybe i should pay and get it back to check for myself. I thought G4 bootloops were repaired by LG even out of warranty, but they can't be trusted anyway.

right but if it was open by some shop and sold as a h811 when inside MB isnt they wont cover warranty cause someone not LG open it. i guess. am just speculating that could be the cause.
I talked to a supervisor and he said the warranty is void because the motherboard is original but the white sticker on the back of the case is not. So i paid $22 in order to get it back unfixed. Meanwhile in my repair status email it shows as "Repair in progress". That's strange...
I received my G4 back today not fixed, warranty void, labeled as after market alteration, non original sticker:
It looks like there is no serial number, but LG says MB is original. So what's the point of a fake sticker?

You bought a refurbished device. Who ever did it changed the label on your phone.

FYI they will not honor the warranty if your loader says "relocked"

so i sent my 7x off for warranty with a defective screen, just got it back today with a paper saying warranty void phone was rooted.
kinda sad to see it happen as i sent my asus zenphone 2 for warranty unlocked and they didnt care even though they claim warranty void if unlocked. i guess thats the difference of buying from huawei and asus
just a heads up dont even try doing a warranty claim if you unlocked it before, even if its obviously a hardware issue and nothing to do with rooting.
It depends on the service center.
I hard-bricked my 7X.
Relocked bootloader.
Sent to service center.
Got back the device 3 days later with brand new SoC.
they had me send mine to fort worth texas, so idk.
Shouldn't they have to provide evidence that rooting it caused the issue?
Sent from my BND-L34 using Tapatalk
the law says this yes. but who is going to get a lawyer to fight for a 200$ device repair?
Sounds like a scenario for a class action lawsuit. Even though people usually don't get much, the company gets hit pretty hard.
