duag band 2.4/5G wifi - Huawei Ascend XT Questions & Answers

I just got my hands on a dual band N600 2.4/5g router. Never used one before. XT connects to both bands. 2.4g 72mb connection, 5g 150mb. Does it mean this phone has dual band wifi?

daulband mean 2.4 and 5,8 so im gonna say yes but isnt this a useless thread

honestly i dont know how u can ask a mod but yea i use the 2.4 cause it has longer range 5 has shorter range although it can be faster depends on if u stay inside or if u go outside 2.4 works for both outdoor and indoor for me 5 cuts out as soon as i go outside xd

I switched to 5g and it's definitely faster but shorter range. When out of range it auto switches to best available signal. I had no idea didn't see it in specs this phone is dual band wifi capable.

Switching From Xperia X10 to Xperia ARC

Hi All,
I m a big fan of SE (in spite of so many problems with updates etc)
But after SE's announcement of no future android upgrade, I am bit confused.
I am looking forward to Xperia ARC, its awesome device.
Can anyone suggest if there is any other phone available in the market to beat Xperia ARC's design and awesome features...
Love my X10i, but am looking at the motorolla Atrix, and the Droid Bionic for secondary phone, once I am due for an upgrade from our carrier.
Worth a quick google search!!
Best regards,
Chris

Yes, it is HSPA+ capable just like the X10. There is NOTHING CALLED 4G! This is false advertisement by U.S. carriers. Read this article for more info.

X10 Arc is awesome in Design , but guyz don't get swept by its looks , its camera is still poor compared to even N95 , (i compared the samples ) and being it not even a dual core processor and no wifi n and not even a 1 GB RAM , doesnt have a 1080p video recording , and not a great battery as well .. i dont think its worth moving from X10i

From Xperia Arc white paper:

I think I'm going to wait for SE's Q2 flagship... that way I'll be able to see their new strategy with the Arc and see if they ditch those users as well

I have both.
5Ghz allows smoother transmission for media like movies IME. The connection is usually 300mbs while the 2.4 "N" is usually 75-150mbs but can bump to 250 if you bond. You can bond channels on both spectrum.
2.4 Ghz has to share with "B" devices and G devices as well as "N" devices. (Unless you configure it not to so) and will drop down to slower speeds to accommodate when those people are on. To do this you can't bond channels which increase the throughput. Bonding in the 2.4Ghz range can be a problem when there are many routers in the neighborhood as the router will constantly be trying to bring a second channel in and will certainly annoy the neighbor's reception if they are in range. Also not all N 2.4 devices can support bonding while I haven't come across a 5Ghz one that doesn't support bonded channels.
Actually at my home I don't serve "B" any longer, only "G" and "N" services. I am a tester for SamKnows and they gave me a Netgear "N" 3500L router, and I have a Linksys WRT610v2 that does dual band. So the Linksys offers two bands, a single channel "N" 2.4Ghz and a bonded "N" 5 Ghz and the Netgear does a "G" 2.4Ghz.
I have 30/5mbs service.

A little Thunderbolt vs Evo Comparison

So I went ahead and got the TB this morning.. and will probably hold on to the Sprint line long enough to see whats announced last week. A few comparisons..
Battery
Believe it or not the Thunderbolt battery is actually WORSE than the Evo. Its been off charger from full for a little under 5 hours and ive had to throw it on the charger already.
Screen
The screen resolution is better on the TB by a hair, not a huge difference.
Speed
Really no contest. But I guess thats pretty much a given with the newer processor. Opening apps is almost instant now with little to no load time.
4G
Really no contest here. I've been able to get 20 megs down inside the house with between 20-30 megs upload. No need for the "wait until more people get on the network" cries. I think we all know that even when the Evo first came out we never ever saw speeds like this on Wimax. Also the ping seems to be a good bit lower with LTE.
It seems to be a little heavier than the evo but the camera and the video are definitely much improved. I guess HTC finally decided to stop being cheap and use a different camera or something. Some will say it wasnt worth it but for me most definitely it was. All in all its a pretty solid phone. The battery thing is ugly though.
I would expect the battery to get better after it is conditioned.
Oh and for some retarded reason HTC chose not to put a toggle on here to turn off 4G. So since i'm actually IN an LTE area with my battery life this low I can only imagine what its going to be like for those not in a 4G area.
Please, God, tell me this means you won't be crying about sprint anymore...Santa? Is it Christmas?
Btw, pretty sure the lack of a toggle was verizon's thing, not HTC's.
hope they announce something that looks like the pyramid and has slightly better specs. i think a phone with the pyramid design and true 720p or more better, 1080p would be nice. 8 mp is good enough. tap to focus would be nice in the camera aswell.

The upload speed is a fluke. The speedtest app is flawed with the processor in the Thunderbolt. Do a speedtest in the stock browser and post those results.

WRONG. There is NO conditioning period for lith ion batteries....
The EVO's battery life was pretty horrible at first. HTC then improved the kernel and others improved upon it even more. You should expect something similar with the thunderbolt.

Nope.. you cant. Only thing you can do is turn off data altogether and thats what has me baffled as to WHY HTC/Verizon would do this. Its either 3G/4G or nothing.

Not the battery itself, but the phone needs to learn the limits of the battery before it can accurately display the meter.

So it would seem like their setting up LTE to work like 3g/1g then?
When LTE is available, it uses it, when it isn't it uses 3g? Just like when 3g isn't available it drops to 1g?

My hypothesis would be to shunt as much traffic to the 4G network as possible, in effect freeing up 3G resources.
Also to automatically do Voice over LTE which will support high-definition voice.
And to make the user experience seamless.

Wifi performance any better from 2 months ago?

So now that this phone has been released in multiple countries and there are over 6 million of them sold, can anyone confirm that the Wifi performance on the newer models has improved? Or has Samsung released any firmware updates for it?
I was following this phone about 2 months ago and almost everyone was reporting that Wifi performance was really bad compared to their other phones. I am very much reliant on Wifi so I chose to stop following the progress on this phone.
Has this changed though?
Please don't reply with "my Wifi is fine" because that will not help anyone and most likely the people who say that have no idea what they are talking about. If your Wifi seems to be comparable to your other smart phones, please let us know.
If not can you do some tests and tell us how fast the signal quality degrades and at how many feet from the router? Also don't go off the stock android Wifi meter please, use a real Wifi app if you're going to take the time to do some testing.
**I've just realized that my wording is very misleading. When I say Wifi performance I do not mean speed, I mean signal strength and quality of signal at marginal distances.**
Thanks for reading.

Full strength in my router room, 3 lines in the most distant room with 3 walls between, something like 25 metres aways from the router (we do not use feet in Europe, we use metric units ). Way to make a general assumption there buddy...
I, for one, will tell you that my Wi-Fi has been just fine, and even better on my SGS2 than on my SGS.
And yes, I have done some testing comparing signal strength on both phones.
However, I do realize that quite a few people have reported wi-fi issues on their SGS2. I don't know if it was a software issue or hardware though.
Personally I would considere those as defective units, because there are people with Wi-Fi working just fine, and contrary to what you believe, they do know what they are talking about.
Do you think I came in here and made this up off the top of my head?

Now this is more in line with what I've been hearing. Again, without testing and comparison, there is no way to know that his s2 really does have less range or maybe that his netbook doesn't have excellent range, or that both of his readings are false because of OS discrepancies.
See the point of my first post yet?

Bearing in mind my previous phones were using the 2.4ghz signal, I would say that that the S2 has better range....but that is a little subjective seeing as I never tested thorughly on the previous phones. I do think that the S2's reception has improved with the advent of newer firmware/modems. I currently run villainrom 2.1, with the kg3 modem.
I can get signal in my garden, about 15 meters away,1-2 bars with the s2.My streak would barely make a connection, it would be intermittent. My Galaxy 7" tab will hold a 1 bar signal. I never tested the hero(I was just so happy someone swapped it for my n97).

It's best to use a wifi channel that other routers in your area aren't using, to avoid interference. My sgs2 actually has a few meters more strength than my sgs and g2x.

Which is why we take a phone that is known to have strong Wifi performance, such as an iPhone 4 or an Inspire, and compare in the same house under the same circumstances with the same router using Wifi analyzer.

5Ghz Wireless Performance?

What is everyone getting as far as their 5Ghz wireless performance? I understand everyone's connections are different, but in general, is it on par with what you expected?
I have 1Gbps home internet with a Linksys EA 8500 Router (MU-MIMO), 4x4 AC). When I do my speedtests by isolating the Note 7 as the only connected device, I get much lower speeds than my Note 5 to the tune of about 100Mbps. I test on the same server, same time of day, same speedtest app etc. So, I am curious if everyone is happy with their wifi performance.
Thanks in advance.
2.4 is better unless u getting interference then use 5.
I pay for 125 mbps down and 10 up, getting 122 down and 12 up on 5ghz. This is while in the same room as router tho.
The differences between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wireless
The primary difference between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies is range as the 2.4GHz frequency is able to reach farther than the 5GHz frequency. This is a result of the basic characteristics that waves attenuate much faster at higher frequencies. So if you are more concerned with the coverage, you should select 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz.
The second difference is the number of devices on the frequencies. 2.4GHz suffers more interference than 5GHz.
The older 11g standard only uses the 2.4GHz frequency, majority of the world is on it. 2.4 GHz has fewer channel options with only three of them non-overlapping, while 5GHz has 23 non-overlapping channels.
A lot of other devices are also on the 2.4 GHz frequencies, the biggest offenders are microwaves and cordless phones. These devices add noise to the medium that can further decrease the speed of wireless networks.
In both aspects, choosing to deploy on the 5GHz frequency is the much better option as you have more channels to use to isolate yourself from other networks and there are far fewer interference sources.
But the radar and military frequency is also 5GHz, so 5GHz wireless may also have some interference, and many countries require that wireless devices working on 5GHz should support DFS(Dynamic Frequency Selection) and TPC(Transmitting Power Control).
Summary:
5GHz has a shorter range compared with 2.4GHz;
The 2.4GHz frequency is way more crowded than 5GHz, devices on 2.4GHz suffer much more interference than the ones on 5GHz;
Fewer devices are capable of using the 5GHz channel than the 2.4GHz channel.
If there is too much interference around and your clients support 5GHz, it’s recommended to use 5GHz wireless network, otherwise you’d better select 2.4GHz.

Well, considering 2.4ghz can not (better said-does not) support ac, I'd say 5ghz is better for high speeds, as ac is capable of much higher downstream speeds than N.

Well, I only get about 20Mbps down and about 5Mbps up where we live over LTE. My Note 5 had the same struggle, though. My signal shows pretty weak most of the time while at home, even outside. I'll pull some speeds when I get back to Houston next week and see what it does. Of the major cities I travel through in Texas, Houston seems to be have the strongest speeds in my experience.

Purchased note 7 , and I have this problem. Linksys ac1900 router. O have a note 5 and it sits side by side and there is a huge difference. Note 5 on 5ghz gets almost the full 100mb I get on my isp. The note 7 gets on the low end 6 mbps to a high of 30 mbps . Will try moving sims around later , but there is for sure a problem with this.

Mine won't even connect to 5Ghz. Always connects using 2.4. I have an Asus AC 3100 router.

With respect, you refer to 20Mbps as "only?" What is that level of bandwidth not sufficient for on a mobile phone?

That's a fair question for sure.
I described it as "only" as a comparative term. In larger cities I used to see double those speeds. 20Mbps is sufficient for sure, but where's the fun in being sufficient lol!

Just an update brought a POS ZTE and in the exact same location the LTE on it tops out around 70 mbps and on 2.4 gHz it does about the same.

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the Huawei Mate 10's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I have had issues with my BLA L29 with wifi. Not very consistent in downloads, as some times i need to reconnect to the wifi to have my full download speed. Otherwise, on noremla carrier 4g very good reception overall.
The only gripe is no AC MIMO. Otherwise, it's perfectly fine.
WiFi is the one issue for me. I have other android phones side by side trying to get the same content on the same WiFi network and the Huawei struggles and does not load or does so slowly. I think there is a fundamental issue with the connectivity of this phone.

you have been able to solve it?
It's a great phone but this is a big bug that I hope will resolve.
I work a lot with a nas and the huawei leaves a lot to be desired.

No. I sent it back and back to HTC U11+. which has better camera and stable Wi-Fi.
the Wifi throttle the DL speed badly when 5g is enabled
my ISP allows almost 1gb connection over 5ghz wifi signal however all my mate 10 pro can do is 380mbps DL and 450mbps UP , on the other hand my wife's Galaxy s8 can do 600mbps over 5ghz wifi signal !!!

I find WiFi poor with this phone. Shame, I love it so much.

How is the battery of HTC U11 Plus compared to Mate 10? Is it better?

How many hrs of SoT could you get? And how about the screen brightness, I heard that it's dimmer than other phones but is it still usable under sunlight? Thanks!

I can get between 5 and 7 SOT. Its the best battery life I've had aside from the mate. But that was far too buggy for me.
The HTC is a solid enjoyable reliable phone.
Screen brightness is good enough for me. Never noticed any problems in sunlight. Although living in the UK I don't get much sunlight to test unfortunately!!

Yes thanks so much, Im going to change my Mate 9 to U11+ but I have no idea it's worth upgrading or not. My Mate 9 currently is a beast for me. Hope I make a right choice.
I have the 10 lite and I have 5g router but I can't find the signal. Do we have 5g wifi?

Mate 10 Lite does not support dual band WiFi, so 802.11n 5 GHz is not supported.
thanks !!
